  • Is there a mouse trail option?

    I have intermittent blindness in my right eye. Windows had a great mouse option that made a trail of cursors behind the one that's functional. It made my mouse easier to see. The control button helps me find my mouse, but I need something to help me track it as it moves. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance! PS: I prefer bash shell installs, copy paste easier then having to read small download link on websites.

    I've been programming for a while now. It is a great hobby for me! Actually, It's my only hobby! But I haven't really programmed in a specific area i.e. desktop, web, etc.. After a long while of research, I've decided to jump into making Desktop Applications. But how should I go about doing this? Are there languages that are used to do this, or is it possible to use Python, Perl, C, etc. to make vivid, "amazing-quality", "highly functional" Desktop Apps?   • How is this paradigm/style called?

    I have the following situation: I'm developing an add-in for a UML modeling tool. The models that can be created by the user are stored inside the main application and a limited access to the models is given through its API. However, the add-in has a lot of callbacks for events that are triggered by the main application, when changes to the model occur by the user. Since the models are already stored once in the main application, I considered it not practicable to duplicate the models in the add-in, which leads to the fact that I have only behavior in the add-in, rather than having a state. This behavior is mainly expressed by static functions, that are organized in functional cohesive classes. The callbacks for the events have always references to the model elements relevant for the specifc event that ocurred. First, it seemed to me that this is a procedural style in general, but procedural style doesn't consider events/callbacks, so this boils down to the question. How is this programming style called?

After years of operation I figured out that all the while what I was doing was a software engineer's job. There are several questions in my mind that I want to ask from you guys. I know that answers will be subjective. As a software engineer, do you really need to be a seasoned programmer? Is it true that software engineers don't code but just make diagrams, functional specs. and othe related documents? I also noticed that there are no SE standards or board exams to pass and its really a dynamic and situational job.     Hi I am running webapplication in tomcat 5.5.It will throw Invalid state Exception Eg: Illegal access: this web application instance has been stopped already. C ould not load com.mysql.jdbc.SQLError. The eventual following stack trace is ca used by an error thrown for debugging purposes as well as to attempt to terminat e the thread which caused the illegal access, and has no functional impact. java.lang.IllegalStateException at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1273) How to resolve this issue.

  • Using Objective-C Blocks

    Today I was experimenting with Objective-C's blocks so I thought I'd be clever and add to NSArray a few functional-style collection methods that I've seen in other languages: @interface NSArray (FunWithBlocks) - (NSArray *)collect:(id (^)(id obj))block; - (NSArray *)select:(BOOL (^)(id obj))block; - (NSArray *)flattenedArray; @end The collect: method takes a block which is called for each item in the array and expected to return the results of some operation using that item. The result is the collection of all of those results. (If the block returns nil, nothing is added to the result set.) The select: method will return a new array with only the items from the original that, when passed as an argument to the block, the block returned YES. And finally, the flattenedArray method iterates over the array's items. If an item is an array, it recursively calls flattenedArray on it and adds the results to the result set. If the item isn't an array, it adds the item to the result set. The result set is returned when everything is finished. So now that I had some infrastructure, I needed a test case. I decided to find all package files in the system's application directories. This is what I came up with: NSArray *packagePaths = [[[NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSAllApplicationsDirectory, NSAllDomainsMask, YES) collect:^(id path) { return (id)[[[NSFileManager defaultManager] contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:path error:nil] collect:^(id file) { return (id)[path stringByAppendingPathComponent:file]; }]; }] flattenedArray] select:^(id fullPath) { return [[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] isFilePackageAtPath:fullPath]; }]; Yep - that's all one line and it's horrid. I tried a few approaches at adding newlines and indentation to try to clean it up, but it still feels like the actual algorithm is lost in all the noise. I don't know if it's just a syntax thing or my relative in-experience with using a functional style that's the problem, though. For comparison, I decided to do it "the old fashioned way" and just use loops: NSMutableArray *packagePaths = [NSMutableArray new]; for (NSString *searchPath in NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSAllApplicationsDirectory, NSAllDomainsMask, YES)) { for (NSString *file in [[NSFileManager defaultManager] contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:searchPath error:nil]) { NSString *packagePath = [searchPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:file]; if ([[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] isFilePackageAtPath:packagePath]) { [packagePaths addObject:packagePath]; } } } IMO this version was easier to write and is more readable to boot. I suppose it's possible this was somehow a bad example, but it seems like a legitimate way to use blocks to me. (Am I wrong?) Am I missing something about how to write or structure Objective-C code with blocks that would clean this up and make it clearer than (or even just as clear as) the looped version?

    I have a project with some Android test code in it (with the appropriate elements, <uses-library> and <instrumentation>, added to AndroidManifest.xml). This works fine in Eclipse.   • Is there a workaround to the disappearing Perl/Tk text widget scrollbar for right justified content?

    I've come across a bug I believe in Perl/Tk 804.027 Text Widget (using Scrollable('ROText')). When I add a tag that selects all and apply the configuration change to justify to the right, the scrollbars do not show up. If I comment out the tagConfigure where I justify to the right, the scrollbars come back. Does anyone have a workaround or fix for being able to right justify a text widget's contents (includes text and embedded entry widgets) and still have functional horizontal scrollbars?

  • Rotate webpage via code?

    I'm hoping that there's a relatively simple way to rotate a webpage a little bit, 30 degrees or so, while still leaving it fully functional and usable. I completely control the page, and can modify it to make this easier if needed. I'd rather not re-write the whole thing in SVG, though, but perhaps javascript and canvas will work? Is there a way using CSS, Javascript, or some other cross browser method that would allow me to accomplish this?

  • Build an Xcode project on a Linux machine

I'm coming from Java - so unit testing makes sense because - well , there you actually have a unit - A Class. But a Python class is not necessarily the same as a Java class , and the way I use Python - as a scripting language - is more functional then OOP - So what do you "unit test" in Python ? A flow?   • Debugging a Visual Studio 2020 extension or addin, always gives me LoaderLock...

    Title says it all. I'm trying to write an extension for VS2010, but I get this every time: Hit F5 to start debugging A new instance of visual studio starts up I can see a bunch of DLLs loading in the debug host while the new instance is starting It then fails with a "LoaderLock". When I continue after that, the new instance is fully functional, but there's no debugging happening at all. The same happens when creating an addin. Any clues?
