  • How to get short month names in Joda Time?

    Hello Does anyone know if there's a method in Joda Time or Java itself which takes either an int or a String as an argument, e.g. 4 or "4" and gives the name of the month back in short format, i.e. JAN for January? How do you determine what is an acceptable response time for a DB read request? I have been using App Engine without noticing any issues with DB responsiveness. But, on the other hand, I'm not sure I would even know what to look for in that regard :)

  • Preventing Netbeans JAXB generation trashing classes

    I'm developing a SOAP service using JAX-WS and JAXB under Netbeans 6.8, and getting a little frustrated with Netbeans trashing my work every time the XSD schema my JAXB bindings are based upon changes. To elaborate, the IDE automatically generates classes bound to the schema, which can then be (un)marshalled from/to XML using JAXB. To these classes I've added extra methods to (for example) convert to and from separate classes designed to be persisted to database with JPA. The problem is that whenever the schema changes and I rebuild, these classes are regenerated, and all my custom methods are deleted. I can manually replace them by copy-pasting from a backup file, but that is rather time-consuming and tedious. As I'm using an iterative design approach, the schema is changing rather frequently and I'm wasting an awful lot of time whenever it does, simply to reinstate my previous code. While the IDE automatically regenerating the JAXB-bound classes is entirely reasonable and I don't mean to imply otherwise, I was wondering if anyone had any bright ideas as to how to prevent my extra work having to be manually reinstated every time my schema changes?

  • Subroutine to apply Daylight Bias to display time in local DST?

    UK is currently 1 hour ahead of UTC due to Daylight Savings Time. When I check the Daylight Bias value from GetTimeZoneInformation it is currently -60. Does that mean that translating UTC to DST means DST = UTC + -1 * DaylightBias, ie negate and add? I thought in this case for instance adding Daylight Bias to UTC is the correct operation, hence requiring DaylightBias to be 60 rather than -60.

    In a MySQL query I am using the timediff/time_to_sec functions to calculate the total minutes between two date-times. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 = 120 minutes What I would like to do is exclude any breaks that occur during the selected time range. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 - (break 08:55:00 to 09:10:00) = 105 minutes Is there a good method to do this without resorting to a long list of nested IF statements?

  • Automating video generation by adding an intro and a trailing video to the main video

    I have a video project I am trying to compile. Here is the overview: I have many videos which are 5 minute training sessions - Main video. The Intro Video will be a standard 5 second video that will have the Video title and Author. This will be concatenated to the main video. The Trailing Video will pretty much be a stock video that will be concatenated to the main video and have all the legaleze etc. The Intro Vid will smoothly fade into the main vid as well as when you get to end of the main video it will fade into the Trailing video nicely. The product is a new video with a Intro, Main & Trailer video all in one! The concept is really that simple. In fact I found an example of a person who has solved this and is doing exactly what I want. This solution is a Bash script that takes a config file that has the title, author, etc. and generates the Intro, the Ending and creates the resulting video with them concatenated. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Server. I have been trying to take this as a sample and just running it with no luck because of incompatibility errors. I even attempted to convert it using .MP4 containers or .MKV. I am running into error after error or incompatibility issues. I went as far as changing out the ffmpeg binary using the 25 Oct 2013 version from http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/static/64bit/ which I like as I don't have to worry about rebuilding the binary. Almost successful but again I have some error which I cannot solve. I know part of the problem is the fact that video production, codecs, formats is a completely new field for me so I am attempting to work through this new territory. Perhaps an expert here has something similar that I can use as a guideline that uses MP4 or h.264 format. Or take the solution above from the URL and make it work with a more up-to-date version of ffmpeg. I will include the script and its parameter file and the output (abbreviated because of limitation) below. Basically as the script stands right now, when run I get the error [matroska,webm @ 0x27bbee0] Read error. This error is return from the 'reasembleVideo' routine from the first ffmpeg command. The following is the Parameter File: #!/bin/bash INPUTFILE="ssh_main.mp4" LOGO="logo.png" LOGOLENGTH="1" SPEAKER="Jason" TITLE="Basic SSH Video" DATE="October 28, 2013" SCENESTART="00:00:01" SCENEDURATION="00:00:09" OUTPUTFILE="ssh_basic_1" } The following is the script I am running.   • SPSiteDataQuery Returns Only One List Type At A Time

    The SPSiteDataQuery class in SharePoint 2007 is very powerful, but it has a few limitations.  One of these limitations that I ran into this morning (and caused hours of frustration) is that you can only return results from one list type at a time.  For example, if you are trying to query items from an out of the box custom list (list type = 100) and document library (list type = 101) you will only get items from the custom list (SPSiteDataQuery defaults to list type = 100.)  In my situation I was attempting to query multiple lists (created from custom list templates 10001 and 10002) each with their own content types. Solution     Since I am only able to return results from one list type at a time, I was forced to run my query twice with each time setting the ServerTemplate (translates to ListTemplateId if you are defining custom list templates) before executing the query.  Below is a snippet of the code to accomplish this. SPSiteDataQuery spDataQuery = new SPSiteDataQuery(); spDataQuery.Lists = "<Lists ServerTemplate='10001' />"; // ... set rest of properties for spDataQuery   var results = SPContext.Current.Web.GetSiteData(spDataQuery).AsEnumerable();   // only change to SPSiteDataQuery is Lists property for ServerTemplate attribute spDataQuery.Lists = "<Lists ServerTemplate='10002' />";   // re-execute query and concatenate results to existing entity results = results.Concat(SPContext.Current.Web.GetSiteData(spDataQuery).AsEnumerable());   Conclusion     Overall this isn’t an elegant solution, but it’s a workaround for a limitation with the SPSiteDataQuery.  I am now able to return data from multiple lists spread across various list templates.  I’d like to thank those who commented on this MSDN page that finally pointed out the limitation to me.  Also a thanks out to Mark Rackley for “name dropping” me in his latest article (which I humbly insist I don’t belong in such company)  as well as encouraging me to write up a quick post on this issue above despite my busy schedule.  Hopefully this post saves some of you from the frustrations I experienced this morning using the SPSiteDataQuery.  Until next time, Happy SharePoint’ing all.         -Frog Out   Links MSDN Article for SPSiteDataQuery http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sharepoint.spsitedataquery.lists.aspx

    Hello, I have a big problem at my work. We had to make a page who displays a exercise for the users. But that page need also to be available as pdf. To do this we used DOMPDF. This worked perfectly on your development server but when we moved it to the production server dompdf generates pdf with errors. When i open the pdf i get the error from Adobe Reader: 110. The first server (development) was Debian. The production server runs CentOS 5. DOMPDF used PDFLib or CPDF, but both generate the same error. Does anybody know what kind of differents on the server i need to be aware of ?
