• Hardware issue, bsod with windows xp irq and strange messages with ubuntu

  I have an old Acer T160 and it used to run Windows XP. But I keep getting random BSOD's. I keep seeing IRQ conflicts. I tried to run ubuntu, which runs and keeps running. But sometimes is not responding. Also there are these popups at ubuntu 12.04 that my network cable (which is onboard) is unplugged. But I have no cable in it! and have an usb dongle for wifi. which also seems unstable. have to (auto)reconnect sometimes. So my question is: is it my mobo, power supply or something else? FYI: I had an dvd-rw station which did not open properly, so unplugged the ata and power, als removed the second harddrive. now only have sata harddrive. also removed the extra video card (ati sapphire x1600 pro) so use only onboard video now and still have these issues. EDIT Update: will try with a new PSU (power supply unit of 400watt) the old (factory) one was 300watt. and will use a usb drive which has 12.04 ubuntu on it (made with unetbootin) to format everything and re-install ubuntu. (so also delete mbr partition) will update the day after tomorrow.

• Mongo daemon restarts after replica set issue

  We had a recent election in our replica set (2 read nodes; 1 write node) that changed the primary node. Curious as to why this occurred, I started looking through the logs to find out what happened. It appears that mongoNode2 could not communicate with mongoNode3. When both nodes could not communicate, it appears that this caused the services on mongoNode2 and mongoNode3 to restart, eventually resulting in a new primary after the services had been started again. • Windows7 issue in mutli- tasking and memory

  I seeming some problem in my windows OS recently, let me first say my system configuration. processor - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz Installed memory (RAM) - 4.00 GB (3.00 GB usable) System type - 32 bit operating system I am using two OS in this system, first one is Windows7 and the other is centOS. Well, I am using this from a long time there was no problem , and all of a sudden since from couple weeks I am facing problems in my Windows7 OS. In windows7 i was nearing using multiple jobs almost every time i log in, there was no problem but now i don't no what happen I am not able to do multiple jobs at same time. For example- 1 I am now not able to listen to music in windows media player and view photo's. All of a sudden the system stops working and does not respond and then respond after 5mins and the music get played where it got stopped after 5 mins. 2 When i start browersing internet it hangs all of sudden and doesn't respond for 2 or 3 mins and gets loading. I mean it just happens for every operation i do in the system. Even now typing was also difficult, it gets hanged very frequently even though i am doing single task. I have never come across this kind of problem before. So the first thing i did was to see the useage of the processor and the memory. Well, i thick the useage of the processor was fine, for single task the useage was some where around 3 to 5%. Well, it was something weird i found in the memory, in spite of no task that i was running it was using somewhere around 34 to 41% of memory. So i opened the task manager and click on resource monitor in performance tab. And in the memory section of the monitoring tool i found the usage of my RAM, it was something like this. Hardware reserved - 1029 MB In Use - 1430 MB Modified - 49 MB Standby - 1566 MB free - 22 MB And i could also see Available 1588 MB Cached 1615 MB Total 3067 MB Installed 4096 MB well, this if all i could find out and i have no idea why my computer is acting so weird all of a sudden and the performance problem is growing day by day and i also don't know if there is problem in Bios, i have let it for default settings from long time. please help me and Thank you in advance for reading this and helping me.

• Ubuntu xrandr rotate issue

  I've just bought a second monitor for my PC which happens to be a pivot monitor. I've already read lots of forums related to my problem but haven't come across a solution - I have the same symptoms as dozens of posts but no matter whatever I try it just doesn't work. I've already changed the xorg.conf file and added in the device section just under Driver "nvidia" the following for my second monitor: Option "RandRRotation" "on" When I save and reboot I try to rotate my screen with the nvidia X server settings by choosing the second monitor and clicking either "left" or "right" for the rotation. It immediately exits the nvidia settings window and does nothing. I tried within the terminal by typing: xrandr -o right I get the following error: X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig) Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 I actually manage to rotate it with Option "Rotate" "CCW" instead of "RandRRotation". The problem with this solution is that you get the second monitor in the right position, but any window you open on that screen is practically unchangeable. You can't change the size nor move it, making it useless for reading PDFs, which is the main reason why I bought this second screen to help me write my thesis. I couldn't get into the database because it kept saying I put in the wrong password so I looked on the internet and found that I could log onto mysql using the command sudo mysql --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf From there I went typed use mysql;then mysql> UPDATE user SET password=PASSWORD('password') WHERE user='root'; Which I know switched the password because I typed the command select Host, User, Password from user; And it showed the encrypted characters had changed for all three of the root user categories. But I am still not able to login to mysql using mysql -u root -p

  ok what Im doing normally works but since my rule "includes" itself is giving me issues and can't find a solution after hours working on different options. I have a .htaccess with: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/3.15.0/(.*) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /3.15.0/$1 [L] this is for my software versions, I have a program that can request sometimes versions that are updated and in the server may be behind a couple version so I want to be able to say that whatever is comming in forward to the latest version that in this example is 3.15.0 /var/www/nameblabla/3.15.0 my .htaccess is on /var/www/nameblabla/.htaccess so the first Condition is to ignore request that already has the right path and version.. the second should be to grab all request and forward to 3.15.0... and of course not loose the path to the files I want from inside that should be the same. so far I can only get it to redirect to such directory but will loose the path and others I get the "Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects" I guess this is because Im including the 3.15.0 path Any help or another way to do this with out mod_rewrite?

• Strange issue with 64 bit OS

  So I own two versions of Windows 7, one is 32 bit, the other is 64. The 64 bit version came with my new desktop, and the 32 bit version came with my Laptop. I was doing a clean install of my laptop, and the install went smooth, Windows is up and running! However, after installing it I realized that I accidentally used the 64 bit installation disk instead of the 32 bit version. I confirmed this in the System Information screen, it says: System type: 64-bit Operating System As far as I knew this laptop was only a 32 bit machine. My understanding is that a 64 bit OS would NOT run on 32 bit architecture. Am I correct with this assumption? If this was a 32 bit laptop is there any way a 64 bit OS would even run at all on it?

  Hi guys, I've got troubles configuring an Hardware load-Balancer with NAT functions. I have the following architecture: Internet === VIP (public) LB (private ip) ==== private addressed servers When a connection is initialised from the outside (internet) , the LB correctly forwards the SYN packet to one of the private servers. But when these servers want to reply with a SYN/ACK there is a problem. the initial SYN packet had as ip header : VIP = Private_server_Address But the private servers cannot reach VIP from their side (this is normal since it's nated), and then provide a correct reply. Have you guys any solution to correctly forward the packets to their correct destination ? Note: The load balancer, which is the default gw for the servers, also has a NAT rule for "masquerading" (actually more SNAT than real masquerading) Regards, Clément.

• Fortigate VPN Routing issue

  I have 200B Fortigate unit with 2 internet WAN connections. I also have a remote site which I'm connected to via IPSEC VPN through WAN1. This site has only one GW IP address. I'd also like to setup a VPN ontop of WAN2 with that specific site as it's destination. The default route for my end is WAN1. My problem is I cant figure out how to have both tunnels up at the same time. What's the best practice for achieving this? Thanks

• Synergy Windows 7 Screen Saver issue

  I have synergy server running on a Windows 7 laptop, I have another laptop running windows XP as the Client. When synergy is first started the Screen Saver will start after the 5 mins of inactivity no problem but after mouse/keyboard input then waiting another 5 minutes + the screen saver will not come back on. The mouse is on the server NOT the client. I have tried unchecking "sync screen savers" I have tried right clicking and running the synergy server as administrator. I have tried versions 1.3.4, 1.3.6, 1.4.2 both 32 bit and 64 bit. I have tried running in XP compatibility mode. I have tried disconnecting the client. It feels like I've tried everything. The setup is as follows: The server is below the Client, the client is above the server. The server has a secondary monitor attached to it and yes I've tried running without the secondary monitor. the sever is an acer 5552G-5828. Any help would be awesome! I love synergy but without the screensavers it is annoying. Thanks!

• SSH dns issue giving break-in error

  Address ..*.* maps to ec2---*-*.compute-1.amazonaws.com, but this does not map back to the address - POSSIBLE BREAK-IN ATTEMPT! I keep getting this when I try to log-in to my remote server. I have it set for key authentication and when this error comes through, I still have to push through the password. I want to use this for automated Git pulls, and I can't have this kind of error message. anybody know what is going on here and how to fix it?

• access netatalk share on osx permission issue

  I have two users in ubuntu. My first was me and I am the owner of the folder in question. The second is my wife. Netatalk is running and we can both see the folder on the network. However I can access it but she cannot. She gets an error in osx "... you don't have permission to see its contents". I have use chmod 777 on the folder but it made no difference. Any ideas? UPDATE The directory in question is a mounted harddrive at /media/ourPhotos

  I am trying to get Openfire to install on an Ubuntu virtual machine, however upon completing the web based installer, I am unable to login to the admin panel. So far I: downloaded Debian installer Installed using stock options Added database and built the structure using supplied SQL file Completed web based installer I am now trying to login using username: admin and my password, however I constantly get a wrong username/password error. There is a record generated in the MySQL database showing the admin user with an encrypted password, and changing to an unencoded password doesn't work. What is the problem here?

• Network Printer Issue.

  Hello, I have a Windows-7 Desktop at office. There is a network printer Dell MFP2335dn which is installed on this dekstop. The printer worked fine for me(I could print from my desktop), sometime back but recently i am not been able to print. When i give a print job, it stays in the queue for a long time, nothing gets printed. When i see the status of the printer in "Devices and Printers", it says - Offline. I removed the printer installed on my Desktop, and tried to install the drivers downloaded from Dell website: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R241894&formatcnt=0&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=349205 But still the same problem. • Dual SMTP Server issue with Unicast Network Load Balancing

  Using two servers with NLB, each box contains IIS and a mail server. Server1 is the primary Server2 runs the backup mail server The problem is the web app sends email to ourselves. When mail is sent from Server2 (via its own SMTP server) to ourselves, it tries to contact Server1, as its the mail server IP. But under Unicast mode of NLB, it cant reach the host via the public dedicated IP address. How can we get round this?

• Boot drive not found issue after cloning using Apricorn EZgig

  A couple days ago I cloned a drive for someone using the EZgig software. Usually this goes without a hitch, but this particular drive I was cloning is quite old. When I restarted with the new drive I received the typical bootable disk not found message, so I turned it off, messed with the BIOS, restarted and it came up fine. That night I was working remotely on the computer and had to restart it. It didn't come back up; not a good sign. When the user came to the computer in the morning it was giving the same message. I have found that to make the computer boot, all I have to do is go into the BIOS and "Load Defaults", then restart. It will boot and runs great. Any thoughts on what is causing this situation? Is it MBR corruption? Are some settings being saved in the CMOS? A couple points of mention: I have already attempted looking for a BIOS update for the computer, but the newest is already installed (from 2003). When the computer reboots it either shows "None" for Primary Master, or sometimes it will just not show anything. Thanks, Tom

• SQL server availability issue: large query stops other connections from connecting

  I've got a high-spec (multicore, RAID) server running MS SQL 2008, with several databases on it. I have a low throughput process that periodically needs a small amount of information from one of the DBs, and the code seems to work fine. However, sometimes when one of my colleagues does a huge query against one of the other DBs, I see full CPU usage on the machine, and connections from my app time out. Why does this happen? I would have thought the many cores and harddisks would somehow (together with cleverly written DB server) be able to keep at least some of the resources free for other apps? I'm pretty sure he doesn't use multiple connections for his query. What can I do to prevent this?

• XCache permission issue

  I successfully installed XCache on a Linux server where WHM/cPanel is installed too. However when I go to the admin interface it shows me only the cache for the owner of the folder (= a cPanel account). So I copied the admin interface on another cPanel account of the same server and I'm surprised about the memory allocation because it seems to use the memory I set in php.ini for EACH user. So if set the memory size to 64M and I have 10 users, doesn't it mean that XCache can take up to 640M? It's not the behaviour I want because I can't control the memory in that case! I would like to set 64M only for the entire server.

• Vista to Vista network visability issue

  Hi All, I've got a Vista Business PC and a Vista Business Laptop connected via a virgin media router (Netgear CG2100D) and I cannot get the two machines to see each other correctly over the network. The laptop is connected via wireless, whilst the pc is wired. Both are set to recieve their network settings automatically (DHCP) and both have the windows firewall (the only firewall on either) turned off completely. I can ping each machine fine from one another using the ip addresses, and I can also connect via \. However, connections via \ fail, and I cannot see the machines in the network map. I have tried turning netBIOS to be "always on" on both adapters, but this makes no difference. I've been messing around pretty much for 6 hours now and am getting quite fustrated by this! (my original aim was to get media sharing working, but I've pretty much abandoned that for now). Any ideas?

• Strange ssh key issue

  Scenario 1. I am doing this from /home/deploy directory I am trying to set up ssh with github for capistrano deployment. this has been an absolute nightmare. when I do ssh [email protected] as the deploy account I get Permission denied (publickey). so may be the key is not being found, so If I do a ssh-add /home/deploy/.ssh/id_rsa Could not open a connection to your authentication agent. (i did verify that the ssh-agent was running) If I do exec ssh-agent bash and then repeat the ssh-add then the key does get added and I can ssh into github. Now I exit from the ssh connection to my server and ssh back in and I can't ssh into github anymore! Scenario 2 if I login to my remote server and then cd into my .ssh directory and ssh into github then it all works fine I guess there is a problem with locating the key and for some reason the agent isn't funcitoning correctly.
