• How to backup a folder and it's subfolders to CD/DVD

  If I've got a folder structure that I'd like to split so that it could be burned to multiple CDs or DVDs, what's the best tool out there to accomplish this? The folders/files have to be natively accessible once the split is done (no compression or physical splitting that would require a later join), and the folder structure should still remain intact as it spaces discs. Any ideas?

  Hi, Too often, I'm being called to help a friend who screwed a Windows machine by some creative methods. Th usual remedy is backing up the hard drive contents and reinstalling. Right now, this is done by removing the defected hard drive to my machine. I figured out that using a rescue disk running some version of Linux might ease the process. I'm looking for: NTFS access Partition tools Large variety of drivers (Network, Hard drives, etc.) GUI and some rescue wizards a great plus. Any ideas? Adam

  Our web application is getting more and more traffic, which is making our poor pg8.3 database server have a little trouble keeping up. I've had a look into using pgpool II for clustering the db to relieve a little strain, and I was wondering how this should be done to minimise downtime considering I would be clustering a live database. Question: Is there a software solution which is able to build a "Live" image? • All terminal commands (like ls, cd, edit, open) are returning errors on my Mac

  From what I can tell from reading other questions/answers is that my .bash_profile file may be corrupt. If I type echo $PATH in terminal the result is: /usr/local/git/bin From what I've read, that's not what the result is supposed to be. But I also can't get any of the commands (like edit or subl, for Sublime Text 2) to open the .bash_profile file to edit it. I was able to open the file in TextEdit using "cmd-shift-.", and here's what's in the file: [[ -s "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" ]] && source "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" PATH=$PATH:~/bin export PATH export PATH=/usr/local/git/bin But the file is LOCKED, so I can't edit it there either. I'm very new to programming and in the middle of trying to install everything on my Mac to go through a Ruby on Rails tutorial. I can't even check my version of ruby, since even ruby -v returns -bash: ruby: command not found Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Concerning persistence size in the Linux Live Creator

  Message : Hello everyone! I have ,for the last several months, used the Linux Live USB Creator which it is a very useful app to make portable OS on to flash drives. I mostly use this application to test and try out new OS's as they are released, before I decide to make a hard disk installatio on to the computer. In many cases, the application developers will allow the “persistence” feature in the flash-drive-installed OS, which is just another way of saying that after multiple boot-ups and shutdowns, all the changes made to the OS will be saved in the flash-drive. But I have a question about the limit of the Persistence size in Linux Live USB Creator (currently version 2.6). I install Super OS 10 on to a partition on my external drive which has 30 GB. I wanted to reserve 10 GB for the persistence so that I can install more applications and space will not run out as I update the installed applications or when I do system updates. But why is it that only 3950 MB can be put for persistence? It would be great if, when desired, as much more persistence space could be set aside so that the space will not run out soon. Also, as I have installed the OS on a 30 GB drive, I tried to see how much space is left. But it seems only the remaining of the Persistence space is displayed when I click on the File System folder. For example, after I have just installed it now, there is 3.5 GB of free space. Where can I access the remaining 26 GB or so drive space which is in the same drive? How do I access it Sir?? It would be helpful if any one could explain and help me with this. Most importantly, it would be a big relief if the persistence can be somehow expanded by a work-around so that I can continue using my SuperOS 10.04 (now heavily customized) OS, which unfortunately has just over 576 MB of space left now, after I removed OpenOffice.org and installed the Libre Office earlier today. This is what remains from the maximum allowable 3950 MB of space for persistence at set-up. Thanks in advance!

• Full Control Over CD/DVD burning

  Suppose I want to burn just the 6000th byte(if thats not possible say the 10th sector) on a CDR without touching anyother region. Sounds possible but is there any tool to accomplish this. Yeah sure, there may be no clear point doing this but is this possible technically?. (Doesnt matter maintaining the CDFS, integrity or whatever standard here. Just the task.) It would be great to know if there are any software regarding this.

  With Django's new multi-db functionality in the development version, I've been trying to work on creating a management command that let's me synchronize the data from the live site down to a developer machine for extended testing. (Having actual data, particularly user-entered data, allows me to test a broader range of inputs.) Right now I've got a "mostly" working command. It can sync "simple" model data but the problem I'm having is that it ignores ManyToMany fields which I don't see any reason for it do so. Anyone have any ideas of either how to fix that or a better want to handle this? • Script to copy files on CD and not on hard disk to a new directory

  I need to copy files from a set of CDs that have a lot of duplicate content, with each other, and with what's already on my hard disk. The file names of identical files are not the same, and are in sub-directories of different names. I want to copy non-duplicate files from the CD into a new directory on the hard disk. I don't care about the sub-directories - I will sort it out later - I just want the unique files. I can't find software to do that - see my post at SuperUser http://superuser.com/questions/129944/software-to-copy-non-duplicate-files-from-cd-dvd Someone at SuperUser suggested I write a script using GNU's "find" and the Win32 version of some checksum tools. I glanced at that, and have not done anything like that before. I'm hoping something exists that I can modify. I found a good program to delete duplicates, Duplicate Cleaner (it compares checksums), but it won't help me here, as I'd have to copy all the CDs to disk, and each is probably about 80% duplicates, and I don't have room to do that - I'd have to cycle through a few at a time copying everything, then turning around and deleting 80% of it, working the hard drive a lot.   I have a customized live fedora 12 USB which is working fine. What i want to do is to make a partition of my hard disk bootable so that my customized fedora can be run from hard disk. To accomplish this i did the following steps: Created a primary partition(/dev/sda2) and format it as ext3 and set it as active. Copy all the files in the live usb to /dev/sda2. Following are the live usb contents(all directories): a. boot b. EFI c. • Web page layout becomes broken when moved to live.

  I want to preface my question with the fact that I'm only a front-end web developer, so please excuse my gross lack of knowledge in this area. My company has three webservers: one for development (IIS v5), one for staging (IIS v5), and one for live deployment (IIS v6). Staging is an exact mirror of live. When I compare the staging and live web pages side by side in Firefox (3.6), the pages are identical. However, when I compare the staging and live pages with Internet Explorer (8), there are major differences... In staging, the squares for bulleted lists are small. In live, the squares are big. In staging, the borders for tables are thick. In live, the borders are thin. In staging, an ASP generated image is the proper height. In live, the image is cropped at the bottom by about 10px. In the end, the layout on live became broken because of these tiny differences, but why? Does the fact that live is on IIS 6 and staging is on IIS 5 account for the small variance in display? And is there any way I can change this server side? Also, is there any reason why Firefox displays both correctly and IE displays both incorrectly?

• High level command line program for burning CDs and DVDs?

  I'm sick of screwing around trying to script a clean solution to burn multiple files and folders to CDs and DVDs with wodim, growisofs and genisoimage. I'm looking for a high level command line program that uses sensible defaults and takes arguments something like this: [program-name] [cd|dvd] /path/to/dir1/ /path/to/dir2/ /path/to/file ... It should then do all the low level copying and ISO generation transparently and just burn the damn disk! Does anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at several programs but it seems there are too many choices to trawl through and not enough information about them online. Thanks :)

• Operating System Not Found - BIOS recognizes, Live OS doesn't (Laptop)

  Here's the deal: I have a multi-partitioned hard drive on my laptop set up with GRUB. I got a blue-screen while working on Windows 7 and when rebooting I got the Operating System Not Found error message. I rebooted the computer once again and entered the BIOS setup just to see if recognized my HDD - it did. Next step for me was booting a Live CD and seeing if I could repair GRUB or at least check if something changed on the partitions, but it doesn't seem to recognize anything there. Tried blkid, fdisk -l, not even GParted can see it. What should I do?

  I need a way to use the jquery .live() function to act on elements that are loaded via ajax. For instance a div is loaded via ajax .load() <div id="mydiv"></div> Normally I do .live() with a click event, but I need to know how to tell the dom that this new div has loaded without any explicit actions/events from the user. This code doesn't work, but I want to do something like this: mydiv = $("#mydiv"); mydiv.live("mydiv.length > 0", function() { // do something }); The "mydiv.length" being a substitue for the typical "click" or other event.

• jQuery live() and stopPropagation() issue

  I know that the live() event handles event bubbling different than all other jQuery events. jQuery recommends using 'return false', but in my case that doesn't work. The issue is: I have a DIV which contains an anchor tag. The DIV is bound using live(). Whenever I click the anchor tag inside this DIV it bubbles and calls the DIV's event. If I bind an event to that A tag which returns false it prevents the link from opening. Neither stopPropagation() or return false work in this case. Are there any other options? Ideally I'd like to keep the live() event around.

As of now, I use an independent desktop based encoder(Flash Media Live Encoder) to publish my live stream. I wanted to know if it is possible to do the encoding part in the browser? My application would be a used by many to publish their streams so I cannot ask everyone to use FMLE to publish.
