Adding an additional click event to every element (JavaScript / jQuery)

I'm developing a touchscreen application that, aside from everything else, records the amount of times the screen is used so that the user can be reminded to clean the screen after a predefined number of clicks. I've got the click functions written nicely, all I need now is make sure the function is called on a click. I imagine $('*').click(function() { //do something }); would accomplish my goal, but is that the best way? Also, would that overwrite other click functions assigned to the elements?Read the article

XFCE: active panel buttons when mouse is on screen edge

I'm using XFCE 4.6.1 (Xubuntu distribution) on my laptop and main computer; the settings are approximately the same. so far for the intro. What I'm experiencing is that when going to the screen edge over the task bar on the laptop, the button under the mouse is active. On the main machine however, having the mouse on the screen edge, the button below it doesn't react at all! Only if I move the pointer towards the center a bit, the hover highlight starts and the button becomes clickable. I've tried to change the panel size, desktop theme and a few other settings, but none seems to cure that problem. Is there something that causes this problem? Mouse-usable alt-tab for windows 7

I'm using Windows 7 with ye good olde Windows 2000 style (I favor usability and space over fancy-pants aero and effects) and am looking for a way I can make the ALT-TAB-Control interactable with my mouse. I generally have many many windows open, and pressing tab or shift-tab over and over again begings to really frustrate me, if i want to reach a certain program. Of course, I could just select the program on my taskbar, but that takes even longer. I really like the way mac os x has its alt-tab menu - more or less exactly the same, but I can select the program with my mouse. Is there something like that for my environment?Read the article

Mac OS X vs. Windows mouse wheel scrolling

Mac OS X determines what area to scroll by the mouse position. Windows does this by what application is active. So I thought anyway. If Notepad++ is the active application in Windows, I can scroll underlying applications by placing the mouse pointer on them. But this seems like the only application with this behaviour. Windows Explorer (Win7) doesn't even allow scrolling in the side pane if the pane is not active. My question is, can this be controlled by developers, and why is Windows behaving like this? I am not about to make a Windows application, but as a developer this makes me curious (and annoyed).Read the article

In Firefox on Ubuntu, if I middle-click anywhere on a page that's not a link, it seems to treat whatever text is in the clipboard as a URL and tries to load it. This is annoying, since if I either accidentally click the middle button or (more often) miss a link when trying to middle-click it, I'll either go to whatever URL is in my clipboard or get an alert saying: The URL is invalid and cannot be loaded Is there any way of either: a) Disabling this functionality so that middle-click on a non-link does nothing (maybe an about:config setting?, or b) Making the functionality more intelligent, so that it will only try and open text if it looks like a URL (this seems like a job for a plugin).Read the article

Recommendations for screen-capture tool that retains menus and mouse pointer

There are several screen capture tool questions already on this site, but I think I have a slight tweak to the usual. I'd like a handy screen capture utility that can: Run in Windows 7 Capture a sub-region of the screen Show the current state of the mouse cursor and any active menus I'd like to use it for writing docs that refer to specific application menu items. I like the built-in snipping tool in Windows 7, but the act of using it dismisses my menus, and it doesn't get the mouse cursor either. Do any such tools exist? EDIT: Ahh, I wasn't familiar with the "delayed capture" options of these tools, but they all seem to fit the bill. Thanks!Read the article

Mouse cursor in Terminal?

I use Mac OS X Terminal.app. But the answer to this would probably apply to any typical UNIX-ish terminal emulator in a graphical environment. Question -- what do I do to: Use my mouse cursor to click on a character-position in the current line of the terminal, and have the terminal's cursor jump to that spot? Typically, you have to hold down an arrow key to move to the correct cursor position. If you're pasting in a long string of text at the shell prompt, or working in an editor like VI, this can take a long time. I know editors have other navigation keys like jump-words, but I like my mouse cursor.Read the article

Synaptics/usb mouse drivers data is invalid on win server 2003

Have just installed windows server 2003 image onto an HP laptop. Cannot get the mouse drivers to work. Have the correct drivers because I've extracted them out of a working PC (exact same model). I am always getting "Data is invalid". This is the synaptics touchpad drivers. Does anyone know how to fix this/ workaround to get mouse working? I have heard it may have something to do with permissions in the registry?Read the article

A black screen with only the mouse cursor while booting

Once i tried to re-install Windows 7. I formatted C drive, during installation system was hanged during the step "installing updates". then i cancelled the process. When i tried again, after booting from CD a black screen with a mouse pointer appears. No further progress. The mouse pointer can be moved. I tried with some other disks also. Ubuntu 9.10: switch in KVM, mouse is detected but not usable immediately

I use a KVM switch to jump between my tower and laptop, both placed on my desk. With Ubuntu 9.04 this worked perfectly. In 9.10, when I switch to the tower, then back to the laptop, the mouse is detected (as shown by /var/log/messages) but moving it has no effect. If I use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to the TTY, then Alt-F7 back to Xorg, the mouse starts working. The tower is running Windows 7, but that shouldn't matter. Sometimes, but not other times, the USB keyboard on the KVM switch is also not usable and I have to use the laptop's built-in keyboard to switch to the TTY. The laptop has two monitors, the built-in and an external. It's (obviously) the external panel that is attached via the KVM switch. Any suggestions? Report to Canonical as a bug?Read the article

Mouse works fine but keyboard (not wireless) not responding to anything

I read previous questions like mine and looked to see if keys were depressed and checked to make sure the mouse key was off in the system preferences. The mouse works just fine but the keyboard seems to be dead. I plugged in another keyboard and it responded identically. Is it something in the Desktop itself? Could I need a technician? Hi, I have noticed that whenever I create a Capture Movie, the movie is fine but the mouse pointer is not visible at all. The clicks are on buttons file menus are executed but is hard for a viewer of the capturre movie session to follow the recording smoothly. This was not a problem in previous versions of WorkStation. Is this a bug or is there a setting I can set to see the mouse pointer? Note: VM Tools are installed, Host is Vista Ultimate Edtion SP1, x64 and the guest is a Win XP SP2. Mouse wheel does not work in Excel 2007

I am running Office 2007 on Windows XP-SP3. My mouse wheel works fine in other applications, meaning that it scrolls information up and down when the mouse is positioned over a given panel. It's even working fine in the other Office 2007 apps, so this is not a hardware or driver problem. It doesn't help to click on a cell to give the worksheet focus. System restore with no mouse or keyboard.

I accidentally installed some USB drivers to my Windows 7 system, they were the wrong ones and now my keyboard and mouse won't work. A system restore would get rid of them, but obviously I can't control my computer to make that happen. Keyboard and mouse still work before windows has loaded, in the BIOS and boot system, so can I do anything from there? I've already tried booting into another OS, accessing my windows filesystem and deleting the Program Files entry, but it didnt work so they must go deeper than that. Or could i launch it from a remote machine? I've got some VNC server insalled so if i could get that running that could work.Read the article

Keyboard and mouse stop working

I have computer. I used it for 6 month without having problem. But now i have problem on keyboard and mouse. Every time turn on the computer it work correctly for 2 or 3 minutes. After that it stop responding. First I thought it have problem with OS. Then I installed windows. But now also it happen as before. When it happen I change the port that mouse and keyboard are connected. Then it again work for 2 or 3 minutes and stop working. I check whether the port I used before can used for other devices so I insert USB flash drive. It detected. So I am confuse what the real problem is. I hope will get your help soon. Scroll modifier for mouse/trackball in windows

I have a trackball (Logitech Trackman Marble in this case, though this could apply to any mouse or pointing device) where I would like to use one of the buttons as a middle-click when I click it, but to trigger scrolling action when I hold it down and move the ball around. I could do this quite easily in Linux by setting scroll-modifier in the X config, but the driver that comes with the trackball (Logitech) only allows one or the other.
