• Is Code Completion speed improved in Delphi 2010?

  I am working with Delphi 2009 Pro and just tried to find out why code completion is so slow in my setup. Whenever code completion is invoked, the IDE locks up for up to 30s, which really interrupts any workflow. When working with BDS 2006, code completion was incredibly fast compared to Delphi 2009. After reading this post it seems to be normal for Delphi 2009, but just turning off the automatic code completion is not anything I want to do. My question is: If I switch to Delphi 2010, will I have the same slow speed for code completion or was it improved to a point to be usable?

• Can't debug code using VS 2010 beta 2

  This is really strange and I can't seem to figure out why it won't work. I have a C# dll that is a add on for another program, the main program is not mine or a .Net app so I am starting it with Start external program in the debugging tab and and passing my program as a command line and the program starts and loads my add on however my Visual Studio debugger doesn't step into the debugger and won't hit my break points. I checked the module window and it's not even loaded in there, I used process explorer and had a look at main program and my dll was loaded into the main app. The project is set to debug, symbols to full and still nothing. I created the project in VS 2008 and it worked fine and am now trying to get this to work in VS 2010 and no go. Anyone know what could be causing this?

• Running NUnit tests in Visual Studio 2010 with code coverage

  We have recently upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. As part of our code base, we have a very large set of NUnit tests. We would like to be able to run these unit tests within Visual Studio, but with code coverage enabled. We have ReSharper, so can run the tests within Visual Studio, but it does not allow the code coverage tool to do its thing and generate the coverage statistics. Is there any way to make this work, or will we have to convert the tests over to MSTest?

  Running Visual Studio 2008 Professional it is possible to enable static code analysis using the /analyze flag (even though this is not supported for the Professional version according to the documentation). In Visual Studio 2010 Professional this no longer works. Instead there is a default /analyze- flag added (one I can't find a GUI setting for). This does not work as well as the VS2008 version (or at all). Can anyone shed some light into this? What does the new /analyze- flag do and is there any way to enable the old analysis?

• Javascript Intellisense not working on Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate (Windows 7 x64)

  Hi guys, I've just got the new Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and Javascript Intellisense is not working on .aspx/.ascx files inside blocks. It does work on external .js files. After VS2010 setup, it asked me if I wanted to import the settings from previous VS version (I have VS2008 SP1 installed), I say yes. I've tried resetting the settings like explained here. Didn't work. I've also installed Resharper 5. I thought it might be conflicting, so I tried suspending it like it says here. Didn't work. Anyone experiencing the same issue? I really want javascript/jQuery intellisense =(

  What should I worry about if I move to Delphi 2007 to 2010? I've checked this article and there was a lot of interesting stuff but not precisely for this jump that I need. To clarify my question and situation: I have all 3td party components' code. I will need the unicode, but not this year. I need win 7 support - themes, form resize problems and etc. I will be happy to have a dissent help system. Is ADO (dbGO) improved? What headache to expect? Thanks!

• Visual Studio 2010 does not discover new unit tests

  I am writing some unit tests in Visual Studio 2010. I can run all tests by using "Run all Tests in Current Context". However, if I write a new unit test, it does not get picked up by the environment - in other words, I am not able to find it in Test List Editor, by running all tests, or anywhere else. If I unload the project and then reload it; the new test is available to run. When I am adding a unit test, I simply add a new method to an already existing TestClass and decorating it with [TestMethod] attribute - nothing fancy. What might be causing this behaviour, and how do I make it work ?

• Minifying Javascript on Visual Studio 2010 on release mode

  I have a ASP.NET MVC 2 project on Visual Studio 2010. I want to be able to use my plain javascript files in debug mode so I can understand what's going on when debugging, but I want to used a minified/compressed version when using release mode. I was planning to create some extenders to include the js files in each page, something like: <%: Html.IncludeJS("/Content/foo.js") % In that extender method I would determine whether I am on debug or release mode and pick the appropiate JS file. The disadvantage here is that I would end up manually compressing/minifying the JS every time I change something. Is there an automated way to compress/minify and include the JS file when compiling in release mode?

  I often get in a position when I need to know why my LINQ doesnt work as intended... I use object collections and extensions. I dont want spend more than couple of minutes on it. LINQ supposed to make developer's life easier not harder. I hoped VS 2010 will have it fixed but I now use RC and it still doesnt let me type LINQ and check what is going on... Says as before "Expression cannot contain lambda expressions"... Is there some add-on for Visual Studio so I can quickly and effectively run ad-hoc queries and find out what is going on and where I am wrong?

  Using the new Visual Studio 2010 SDK developing against the MEF based editor structure there's a question: How can I use the MEF editor interfaces to handle snippet behavior in IntelliSense? The ICompletionSession itself is not a problem (e.g. get the available snippets) rather filling the snippet, handling the subsequently expected actions like tab, enter behavior, text replacement, etc. Is there any way to do that without a language service? Checking the built-in behavior in Visual Studio base editor implementation they built the MEF interfaces on top of a set of language service based objects.

• Suggestion for chkstk.asm stackoverflow exception in C++ with Visual Studio 2010

  I am working with an implementation of merge sort. I am doing C++ Visual Studio 2010. But when I took a array of 300000 integers for timing, it is showing an unhandled stackoverflow exception and taking me to a readonly file named "chkstk.asm". I reduced the size to 200000 and it worked. Again the same code worked with C-free 4 editor (mingw 2.95) without any problem while the size was 400000. Do you have any suggestion to get the code working in Visual Studio? May be the recursion in the mergesort is causing the problem.

• Debug .Net Framework's source code only shows disassembly in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi! I'm trying to debug .Net Framework's source code using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I followed the steps described in Raj Kaimal's post but I must be doing something wrong since the only code I'm getting to see is the disassembly code: As you can see in the image, the Go to Source Code and the Load Symbols options are disabled. Nevertheless, symbols are downloaded from Microsoft's server since I can see them inside the local cache directory. The code I'm debugging goes as follow: var wr = WebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com"); Console.WriteLine("Web request created"); var req = wr.GetRequestStream(); Console.Read(); When I hit F11 to step into the first line of code, a window pops us looking for the "WebRequst.cs" file inside "f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\Net\System\Net\WebRequest.cs" which does not exists on my machine.   I have recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2010. I have kept database projects separate to application projects. The database project was converted from and old DPR project and added a whole lot of additional folder. I deleted those, but now I suspect I need to recreate the project as these new projects work very differently. Now that I have need to update scripts, it seems I can even paste new SQL files into the project so am a bit stuck. Are there any tutorials / walkthrough that show the basics on starting and creating a database project? Or even better a video? Also if there are any tips and tricks or comments on this, I will be happy to hear them?

• VS 2010 breaks my keydown events

  I have a custom control, a groupbox, which reacts on key events on a assigned key. It is possible to remove this groupbox, as well as adding more dynamically. Havnt been any trouble in VS 2008 so far. Two days ago i installed VS 2010. And i started to get multiple event fireing, and removing a groupbox did not remove the specific key events attached to it. Where did it go wrong? I use -= on the events present in the gruopbox code to remove them before removing the groupbox.

• Documenting (XML) Application Settings in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi all, I recently created a (C#) project with Visual Studio (2010) and used some Settings (which I created under Properties). The only place I found where I can add some XML comments for my documentation, would be in Settings.Designer.cs. However this file is auto-generated so whenever I change the Settings, the comments are gone. Even Visual Studio gives started giving mewarnings, "Missing XML comment for publicity visibly type or member .... " My question here is: What is the neatest way to add XML comments to my Settings? Is there a better place than Settings.Designer.cs? Should I stop the file from being auto-generated? How? Any other way?

  I have a third-party project type in Visual Studio which for some reason only supports the .NET Platform configuration for the build, for all other (standard C#) projects in the solution I only have AnyCPU. Unfortunately, ever since upgrading to VS 2010 it produces following error when built : Error 39 The OutputPath property is not set for project 'ReferencedBusinessProject.csproj'. Please check to make sure that you have specified a valid combination of Configuration and Platform for this project. Configuration='Debug' Platform='.NET'. This error may also appear if some other project is trying to follow a project-to-project reference to this project, this project has been unloaded or is not included in the solution, and the referencing project does not build using the same or an equivalent Configuration or Platform. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets 483 10 CustomTypeProject It's pretty much descriptive in what is missing but I haven't found any way to fix it so far. This is accessed through project properties configuration manager menu. I would like to know if this feature is the same in the professional version and the express edition of MVS 2010 in terms of speed optimization. I have the express edition. • Visual Studio 2010 SQL Server Database Project - Ignore Stored Procedures and Functions

  I really like the new SQL Server Database projects in Visual Studio 2010. I also like using the "Generate DROP statements for objects that are in the target database but that are not in the database project" option in the deployment properties. However, I do not want to manage Stored Procedures and Functions using this interface; I have another tool for that. Every time I do a build and deploy, VS will drop my stored procedures that I have created with my external program. I would like to essentially "ignore" stored procedures and functions. Is there a way to ignore stored procedures and functions when building SQL Server Database projects? I won't be able to use the "Generate DROP statements..." option if I want to use my external tool for stored procedures and functions.

• Add XSLT 2 schema to Visual Studio 2010 for intellisense

  I'd like to add the XSLT 2 schema to Visual Studio 2010 to provide intellisense. I've added the schema to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Xml\Schemas (removing the XSLT 1 schema), but to no avail. The schema seems to have been parsed by Visual Studio, as I can hover my cursor over the namespace declaration in the stylesheet (xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform") and see the comments from the new schema, however, intellisense still refers to the XSLT 1 implementation. For example the element has a warning that 'xsl:function is not yet available'. Do I need to register the schema in some way? Any suggestions welcome.
