  • Sun Directory Server 5.2 performance

    Hi all, I'm using logconv.pl (provided by Sun), to measure performance on my server. These two metrics results, are worrying me a bit: Binds: 192164 Unbinds: 111569 In fact the difference between the two it's quite big, how can I determine which are the unbound requests? As stated by Lodovic: Many applications just close the connections without sending an Unbind request. This simply can explain the difference. But the logconv.pl doesn't show details about the unbound requests, do you know any other tools or can you suggest some queries or whatever that can help me find out the root cause? Do you think anyway that the performances may improve fixing the issue?

  • SVN Active Directory authentication with ProxyPass redirect in the mix

    We have a BitNami SVN stack running on a Windows machine which holds our SVN repository. It's set up to authenticate against our AD server and uses authz to control rights. Everything works perfectly if Tortoise points at http://[machine name]/svn However - we need to be able to access it from http://[domain]/svn. The domain name points to a linux environment that we're decommissioning, but until we do, other systems on that box prevent us from just re-pointing the domain record. Currently, we've got a ProxyPass record on the linux machine to forward requests through to http://[machine name]/svn - it seems to work fine, and the endpoint machine asks for credentials, then authenticates: but when that happens, the access attempt is logged as coming from the linux box, rather than from the user who has authenticated. It's almost like some element of the credentials aren't being passed through to the endpoint machine. Has anyone done this before, or is there other info I can give to try to make sense of this problem, and figure out a way to solve it? Thankyou!

  • What filesystem comes closest to matching NTFS for support of ACLs, and highly-granular permissioning?

    It seems that most other filesystems handle the basic *nix permissions (ugo±rwx), with maybe an addition here or there. Or can be "made" to handle ACLs through the use of other tools on top of the system. On the wikipedia pages about filesystems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List%5Fof%5Ffile%5Fsystems & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison%5Fof%5Ffile%5Fsystems), it appears that while some do support extended meta-data, none support natively the level of permissioning that NTFS does. Am I wrong in this understanding?

Map system can only work if create mask includes octal 010 (S_IXGRP)." My Configuration file is as follows [homes] comment = Home Directories path = /home_srv1/%u valid users = %S read only = No create mask = 0660 directory mask = 0770 browseable = No I tried to google but with no luck, Serverfault is always my best hope.     Considering possible solutions for some improvements I run into this theoretical question and I couldn't find a satisfying answer. Some of you may have first-hand experience with this in practice, so here the question goes: How can I disable password changing for an OpenLDAP user? The account must stay enabled, allowed to log on to workstations and work as usual, but should not be able to change its own password. Can this be done? If so, how difficult is it to implement it? All suggestions are appreciated! For reference: Servers and workstations are to run a mixture of FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Accounts to get password disabled are student or generic workstation accounts. Environment is a school.

    Trying to debug this error with getting a Django project running ImproperlyConfigured: AUTH_USER_MODEL refers to model 'accounts.User' that has not been installed Running python manage.py migrate Must iterate i am in no way a python or django expert - I have simply inherited someone elses project that I am trying to get running for the team here. I have followed steps to install postgres required modules including south creating database for postgres Any help appreciated on how to debug this. settings/base.py contains INSTALLED_APPS = DJANGO_APPS + THIRD_PARTY_APPS + LOCAL_APPS LOCAL_APPS = ( 'apps.core', 'apps.accounts', 'apps.project_tool', 'apps.internal', 'apps.external', ) so apps.accounts exits - but it asks for AUTH_USER_MODEL = 'accounts.User' - should it be AUTH_USER_MODEL = 'apps.accounts.User'?

  • java RMI newbie-- some basic questions about SSL and auth/.rate limiting an RMI service

    I am trying to work to secure a java based RMI service using SSL. I have some basic questions about the capabilities of using SSL. Specifically, from what I understand, the client and server connecting via SSL will need to have appropriate credential certificates in both client and server, for a client to be granted access to the server. Am I correct in my understanding? Also, what I want to know is, can a person who is already using my RMI service and has access to a client machine , make a copy of the certificate in the client machine to other client machines-- and then invoke my RMI service from those other machines as well? How do I prevent such a situation from occurring? I mean, in a REST API you can use OAuth authentication, can we have some kind of authentication in an RMI Service? Also, can I possibly limit usage of the RMI service? For eg, a specific client may be allowed to make only 5000 calls per day to my RMI service, and if he makes more calls the calls occurring after the 5000 calls limit are all denied? How do I do such rate limiting and/or authentication for my RMI Service?

  • Authenticating to Google Search Appliance using Basic HTTP auth and ASP.NET (VB)

    I've run into a snag though which has to do with authentication between the Google Search Appliance and ASP. Normally, when asking for secure pages from the search appliance, the search appliance asks for credentials, then uses these credentials to try and access the secure results. If this attempt is successful, the page shows up in the results list. Since ASP is contacting the search appliance on the client's behalf, it will need to collect credentials and pass them along to the search appliance. I have tried a couple of different documented ways of accomplishing this, but they don't seem to work.   • How to use sessions with django piston auth?

    The problem is that I want to store authentication in a cookie that I can present to django piston rather than requiring user/password to be typed in each time (without hardcoding or storing the user/pass combo somewhere on disk). I was hoping to accomplish this with cookies like someone would without the piston API. Am I missing something? Django Piston doesn't seem to care about session cookies at all? Or can someone suggest a good alternative? Maybe I shouldn't use Piston?

    Hi On my WSS server I have run the following stsadm command to filter the people picker results: stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url http://myserver -pn "peoplepicker-searchadcu stomfilter" -pv "(memberOf=CN=SharePoint,OU=AccessGroups,DC=contosio,DC=local)" My WSS sites are all used by different groups of users. Whenever I create a new site collection in WSS I want to ensure that I can filter the people picker to only show he relevant users for that group - can I automate this or would I have to manually do something like the above stsadm command? I believe there is a part of CFNetwork that can fix this, but this might be just for streams and I am unsure of how to implement it with NSURLConnection. How can I tell my application to use the proxy settings set under WiFi?

    Hi I know stackoverflow uses open authentication. I want to try and use this as well. I am using asp.net mvc 2.0 with C#. I found this http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/ and I am wondering if this is what was used for stackoverflow. Also any tutorials would be nice as well.     I'm using the Ruby GData Library to access Google Docs and I recently got the GData::Client::CaptchaError because I was re-logging in with every request. Reading this post, it recommends not logging in with every request, but caching the authentication token. How do I go about doing that correctly? Google says it expires every 24 hours, and it doesn't seem like I should store it in the session, so what should I do? I'm using Ruby on Rails with all this. Thanks so much

  • Twitter O-Auth Callback url

    I am having a problem with Twitter's oauth authentication and using a callback url. I am coding in php and using the sample code referenced by the twitter wiki, http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth I got that code, and tried a simple test and it worked nicely. However I want to programatically specify the callback url, and the example did not support that. So I quickly modified the getRequestToken() method to take in a parameter and now it looks like this: function getRequestToken($params = array()) { $r = $this->oAuthRequest($this->requestTokenURL(), $params); $token = $this->oAuthParseResponse($r); $this->token = new OAuthConsumer($token['oauth_token'], $token['oauth_token_secret']); return $token; } and my call looks like this $tok = $to->getRequestToken(array('oauth_callback' => 'http://127.0.0.1/twitter_prompt/index.php')); This is the only change I made, and the redirect works like a charm, however I am getting an error when I then try and use my newly granted access to try and make a call. I get a "Could not authenticate you" error. Also the application never actually gets added to the users authorized connections. Now I read the specs and I thought all I had to do was specify the parameter when getting the request token. Could someone a little more seasoned in oauth and twitter possibly give me a hand?   • Spring-Security http-basic auth in addition to other authentication types

    I have a pretty standard existing webapp using spring security that requires a database-backed form login for user-specific paths (such as /user/**), and some completely open and public paths (such as /index.html). However, as this webapp is still under development, I'd like to add a http-basic popup across all paths (/**) to add some privacy. Therefore, I'm trying to add a http-basic popup that asks for a universal user/pass combo (ex admin/foo) that would be required to view any path, but then still keep intact all of the other underlying authentication mechanisms. I can't really do anything with the <http> tag, since that will confuse the "keep out the nosy crawlers" authentication with the "user login" authentication, and I'm not seeing any way to associate different paths with different authentication mechanisms. Is there some way to do this with spring security? Alternatively, is there some kind of a dead simple filter that I can apply independently of spring-security's authentication mechanisms?

  • Advice on simple efficient way to store web form data when no db/auth required

    Hi, I have a situation where I need to provide an efficient way to process and store comments submitted via a web form. I would normally use PHP and either MySQL or XML to store the data, but this is slightly different in that this web form will only be temporarily available in a closed LAN environment, and all i need to do is process the form data and store it a format which can be accessed by another application on the LAN (Adobe Director). Each request made by the Director app should pop the stack of data. I'm wondering how best to store the data for this type of situation as it's not something I would normally do. I'm thinking possibly storing the data in an XML file, but any advice would be great!

  • Apache basic auth, mod_authn_dbd and password salt

    Using Apache mod_auth_basic and mod_authn_dbd you can authenticate a user by looking up that user's password in the database. I see that working if the password is held in clear, but what if we use a random string as a salt (also stored in the database) then store the hash of the concatenation? mod_authn_dbd requires you to specify a query to select that password not to decide if the user is authenticated of not. So you cannot use that query to concatenate the user provided password with the salt then compare with the stored hash. AuthDBDUserRealmQuery "SELECT password FROM authn WHERE user = %s AND realm = %s" Is there a way to make this work?
