• Concerns with compressing sensitive data in OSX

  Hi, I have some really sensitive data that I am trying to compress and back up so I can reformat. It's absolutely imperative that nothing happens to these files. I'm a developer so I have very little room for error... plus I'd really hate it if any of my .mp3's got corrupted! File Formats Include... .mp3 .php .js .ai - .psd - .flv (and many more) Is the mac OSX file compression safe enough? Or should I look elsewhere? Is there a more efficient/secure file-format other than .zip (i'm assuming so...)

• Configuring multiple domain in nginx in one file

  I am still newbie configuring nginx. Is it posibble to configure multiple domain in one file and they share mostly the same config? For example I want to configure two domains that based from one app and one domain need basic auth, the other doesn't. • Which e-reader for O'Reilly books?

  Most of my programming books are from O'Reilly. Several of them need to be updated, and I'm thinking of going for an e-reader this time. O'Reilly sell their e-books as a multi-format bundle (PDF, EPUB and Mobipocket (Kindle)). Has anyone done a comparison of the formats as for suitability on a small e-reader screen? In Europe, the Kindle DX is not (yet?) available, so I'm not sure whether a Kindle or a Sony (or some other reader) is best suited for these books. Disregarding other advantages/disadvantages of the different readers for now, which one in your opinion gives the best experience with O'Reilly books in particular (or programming books in general)?

• Why isn't sox able to convert to mp3?

  I installed Sox, i installed lame-398, but sox is not able to convert any file to mp3. It fails with the messages: ./../sox FAIL util: Unable to load LAME encoder library (libmp3lame). ./../sox FAIL formats: can't open output file `funktech.mp3': How can i check if lame has been installed correct? How can i get sox to find the mp3Library? edit: I did not install sox at all, it works without installing directly from the commandline. Lame was installed by following the instructions on their site: ./configure make make install which results in the following files being found in /usr/local/lib/ : libmp3lame.dylib, libmp3lame.la, libmp3lame.a Maybe symlinking libmp3lame.la, which is marked as executable, to /usr/bin would help?

• Conditionally format row based on cell value in Excel 2011 Mac

  I'm using Excel Mac 2011. I have read some of the other answers, but this question is different because I want to apply conditional formatting to an entire row when its cell in column B contains the value 'Y'. Simple conditional formatting just formats that one cell. Whenever the field at column B for any given row contains the value 'Y', I'd like to format that row. Using Mac Excel's so-called "classic" conditional formatting, I have this: I would really like to apply that to every row, but it just paints the entire sheet red (because $B$3 contains "Y"). I can't seem to figure out how to get the reference to whatever is in field B for this row in the rule.

• Can not run ifconfig like commands via browser

  Hi, Problem is I cannot run "ifconfig" or similar commands via browser. Environment: Programming language : python Server : lighttpd(CGI) , running on busybox. Well machine is really small and so I am really restricted. Tried techniques: chown every script to root. But there is no differences. Why? Because lighttpd runs under another user, I mean not under root. As it is not root, when I try to run script from browser it always calls the python file with its uid. So it makes it impossible to run "ifconfig eth0 192.168.2.123" like commands via web browser. I get "ifconfig: SIOCSIFADDR: Permission denied" error. What can I do? I do not have any sudoers file, so cannot modify sudo command. Well, I don't even have "sudo" command :) Thanks for your help

• Is there a way to browse a media server (MediaTomb) with a media player (VLC)?

  I currently have an EEE PC set up with LinuxMint as my media server using MediaTomb. I use VLC as my media player on another Windows computer to watch videos off the media server. It works fine, but the current process is: Open up browser and navigate to folder Find the file I want to play and copy URL Paste URL into VLC and watch. This is fine for me on the PC, but it is a little troublesome for my parents to grasp (or for me to use on the phone). Ideally I'd like to: Open up VLC Browse to the file (using VLC) Click/select to play If there is any solution which is similar to this, please let me know. I'm willing to change the software on both server and client to accommodate (although it somewhat depends on which formats are supported on the server) Side note: I've tried searching online for this but I find a lot of jargon such as "media server/centre", media streaming, DLNA, UPNP and feel that some people are either using them interchangeably or incorrectly.

• How to fix choppy video with VLC player?

  When playing most movies in VLC player, the video feed is choppy. Furthermore, the sound is near perfect. Another catch is, this video issue wasn't always an issue. I use to play movies with no problem with video or sound. I can not pin point what has changed between the it use to work fine and the time it started being choppy though. I have an ASUS G73JW-A1. This system should be more than enough to handle the demand of playing HD videos. Movies that are normally effected are HD videos. These video range from 4 to 9 gigs. In addition, the videos are in MKV, MP4 (or M4V), and AVCHD (or M2TS) formats. I get the same results when playing move directly off my hard drive or off an external. Finally, all the drivers have been recently checked and updated if needed.

• Fonts doesn't render in Chrome or IE in Windows Server 2008

  When I visit, for example, http://www.bolagsverket.se from a user account on this Windows 2008 Server, Chrome displays the site but all the text is gone. When I try in IE it's even worse, it doesn't even load the page, I jsut end up with this: http://dl.pixelstore.se/image/0y1f0y0w1J39 The fonts used for this site is (from CSS): font-family:Frutiger,Frutiger Linotype,Univers,DejaVu Sans Condensed,Liberation Sans,Nimbus Sans L,Geneva,Helvetica Neue,Helvetica,Arial,Tahoma,sans-serif If I edit the CSS through Chrome Developer Tools, and erase all fonts until Arial it suddenly works. The strange thing is that everything works fine from the administrator account, it's just (all) the user accounts that doesn't work. My guess is that Chrome/IE is asking for the fonts but somehow they are restricted in the user account. Instead of just ignoring the fonts they can't find they try to render them anyway. Any clue?

  I'm trying to force a particular directory to require only allowed IPs and a valid username/password through basic authorization. To ensure that the username/password are sent in encrypted form, I want the directory to also force SSL use.   I've read a few similar questions but wasn't clear. I have a small office (13) users and recently purchased a new single server (this is all I have to work with for now). Server specs Memory - 16GB Drives - 6 SCSI (2TB) PROCESSOR - DUAL QUAD I plan on making the Hyper-V host the DC and then 2 VMs, one for a file server and the other an application server. Question - since I am restricted to this single server, would it be a big issue making the Hyper-V host the domain controller? Your input greatly appreciated.

  I am trying to move messages from a rather large mailbox to an archive mailbox. However I run into errors all the time. the command I am executing is Export-Mailbox -Identity MAILBOX_FROM -TargetMailbox ARCHIVE -TargetFolder ARCHIVE_FOLDER -StartDate 2009-02-01 -EndDate 2009-02-28 -DeleteContent -Confirm:$false I can copy/move some messages, but run into frequent "an unknown error has occurred" (statuscode -1056749164) I run the console as administrative user, and all permissions are set right, as far as I can tell. I've restricted the start and end dates in case the number of messages moved/deleted should create problems. Anything I am missing in my setup? Corrupted messages? Over-limit message sizes?

I have used FWDoc in the past to extract the rules and convert them to other formats but there was some errors with exclusions. I then analyze them manually to produce an improved version of the rules (usually in OOo Calc) with comments. I know there are several visualization techniques but they all go down to analyzing the traffic and I want static analysis. So I was wondering, what process do you follow to analyze firewall rules? What tools do you use (not only for Checkpoint)?

  I want to make sure there aren't any odd behaviors that I don't know about when redirecting a SSL VirtualHost with mod_alias Redirect as outlined by Apache here. My code seems to work, but since SSL virtual hosts are restricted to just one IP address, I want to make sure there aren't any problems eluding me. Explicitly not using TLS. I am using free VPC images from IE6 compat kit from Microsoft but they have only limited options of Windows Versions (Win XP SP3 and some restricted version of Vista). I need a service where I could rent a Virtual OS in the cloud and connect via Remote Dektop. Use for couple of hours and then discard all the stuff I have been doing there. I tried using Amazon S3 but they only have Windows Server 2003 Anyone knows of such a service that would offer different XP/Vista/7 versions ?

Is there a way to disable the taskbar for client users on W7 computers? I looked in the Group Policies but it's not there.   I would need to build a Linux server that will have as its main task to perform the video conversion. For video conversion, the most likely I will use FFMpeg tool. Question: Can anyone tell me if for improving this automated video conversion a video card will improve the process or not?   I need to evaluate in a lab environment the use of Windows Server 2008 R2's NPS for 802.1x authentication with Cisco Catalyst 3750 switches; the general idea is to only let clients connect to the company network if they can provide valid domain logon credentials, placing them in a restricted VLAN instead if they can't. NAP would also be a bonus, but it can be evaluated later; the main point now is only 802.1x authentication. Although I have very good knowledge of Windows and Active Directory (on the Microsoft side) and quite good knowledge of Catalyst switches (on the Cisco side), I'm totally new to 802.1x; I'd really like some general guidelines and help here, and some sort of implementation guide would also be very useful.

• OS X crops the screenshot when capturing a single, maximised window.

  Whenever I make a screen shot of just a single window that is maximised using the shortcut command + shift + 4 + space, it never accurately captures the full window. Instead, it just saves this: What is going on? Why has OS X started doing this? I have been using Snow Leopard for a while, so it is not like that is causing the problems directly. It is also not restricted to Safari. The same thing happens for iTunes, as well as others.

  I'm working on a remote server installation entirely through ILO. Due to the software application and environment, my access is restricted to a Windows server that I must access through RDP. Going from that system to the target server is accomplished via HP ILO3. I'm trying to run a CentOS installation in an environment where I can't use a kickstart. I'm doing this via text mode, but the keystrokes are repeating randomly and it's difficult to select the proper installation options. I'm doing this using Microsoft's native RDP client (on Mac and Windows). I've also noticed this before when running installations or doing remote work in nested sessions. Is there a nice fix for this, or it it simply a function of the protocol?

  Hi, everyone. I have a shell account but the admin has restricted ssh access to the server. The server is listening on 0.0.0.0:22 but the firewall blocks any incoming attempts to this port. He says he is doing maintenance but I don't believe him and I need to backup my stuff with ssh. My question is that: Is it possible to do this: Me (Wan IP) <- Hosting Server (tcp/8080) redirects to Hosting Server (tcp/22) I don't want to involve my own linux machine in this and I can only make use of ssh.. • Standardize Outlook Contacts Format

  I have Outlook syncing with my cell phone (WinMo 6.1) and vice versa. Everything works fine, but my numbers are all in different formats. I have some contacts with numbers of 5555551234, some are 555.555.1234, some are (555) 555-1234, some are 555-555-1234, etc. I don't really care how it's displayed, because they all dial fine on my phone. But I want to clean them up so they all look the same. Any easy ways to do this?

  We are currently using the following Group Policy to control the Internet Explorer security zones: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page Then setting the Site to Zone Assignment List with the various values using the following chart: Value Setting ------------------------------ 0 My Computer 1 Local Intranet Zone 2 Trusted sites Zone 3 Internet Zone 4 Restricted Sites Zone This works well; however, users are then unable to edit (or especially add) to their zone settings. Is there a way to lock in our custom zone settings while still giving users the ability to add their own sites to the security zones? Yes, I do realize the slight security risk in opening this up.
