  • How to fix "Byte-Order Mark found in UTF-8 File" validation warning

    - by rsturim
    I've got an xhtml page validating under xhtml strict doctype -- but, I getting this warning which I trying to understand -- and correct. Just, how do I locate this errant "Byte-Order Mark". I'm editing my file using Visual Studio--not sure if that helps. Warning Byte-Order Mark found in UTF-8 File. The Unicode Byte-Order Mark (BOM) in UTF-8 encoded files is known to cause problems for some text editors and older browsers. You may want to consider avoiding its use until it is better supported.

  • In C#, How to obtain the target of a symbolic link (or Reparse Point)?

    - by Cheeso
    In .NET, I think I can determine if a file is a symbolic link by calling System.IO.File.GetAttributes(), and checking for the ReparsePoint bit. like so: var a = System.IO.File.GetAttributes(fileName); if ((a & FileAttributes.ReparsePoint) != 0) { // it's a symlink } How can I obtain the target of the symbolic link, in this case? ps: I know how to create a symbolic link. It requires P/Invoke: [Interop.DllImport("kernel32.dll", EntryPoint="CreateSymbolicLinkW", CharSet=Interop.CharSet.Unicode)] public static extern int CreateSymbolicLink(string lpSymlinkFileName, string lpTargetFileName, int dwFlags);

  • Django Forms, Foreign Key and Initial retuen all associated values

    - by gramware
    I a working with Django forms. The issue I have is that Foreign Key fields and those using initial take all associated entries (all records associated with that record other then the one entry i wanted e.g instead of getting a primary key, i get the primary key, post subject, post body and all other values attributed with that record). The form and the other associated queries still work well, but this behaviour is clogging my database. How do i get the specific field i want instead of all records. An example of my models is here: A form field for childParentId returns postID, postSubject and postBody instead of postID alone. Also form = ForumCommentForm(initial = {'postSubject':forum.objects.get(postID = postID), }) returns all records related to postID. class forum(models.Model): postID = models.AutoField(primary_key=True) postSubject = models.CharField(max_length=25) postBody = models.TextField() postPoster = models.ForeignKey(UserProfile) postDate = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) child = models.BooleanField() childParentId = models.ForeignKey('self',blank=True, null=True) deleted = models.BooleanField() def __unicode__(self): return u'%s %s %s %s %s' % (self.postSubject, self.postBody, self.postPoster, self.postDate, self.postID

  • How can I tell if a CSV is in UTF-7 or UTF-8

    - by dru-zod
    Excel seems to save CSV files in (what I think is) UTF-7, despite the fact that most information I have read suggest that in general, you should not UTF-7. Indeed, other applications (Text pad, which lets me choose) save things in UTF-8 (or Unicode etc, but UTF-7 is not even an option). Using .NET, I read the stream, and have to provide the encoding. If I get it wrong, accented characters are replaced with question marks. If I try and let StreamReader work it out (using detectEncodingFromByteOrderMarks), it gets it wrong (at least, it does if the file has been saved in Excel). It is unlikely that anything other then Excel will be used, so I could just assume UTF-7. Are there any other options? I need to support French (accented), German, Dutch, and Norwegian characters.

  • Migrating from CPython to Jython

    - by itsadok
    I'm considering moving my code (around 30K LOC) from CPython to Jython, so that I could have better integration with my java code. Is there a checklist or a guide I should look at, to help my with the migration? Does anyone have experience with doing something similar? From reading the Jython site, most of the problems seem too obscure to bother me. I did notice that: thread safety is an issue Unicode support seems to be quite different, which may be a problem for me mysqldb doesn't work and needs to be replaced with zxJDBC Anything else? Related question: What are some strategies to write python code that works in CPython, Jython and IronPython

  • Rendering formatted text in a direct3d application

    - by Fire Lancer
    I need to render some formatted text (colours, different font sizes, underlines, bold, etc) however I'm not sure how to go about doing it. D3DXFont only allows text of a single font/size/weight/colour/etc to be rendered at once, and I cant see a practical way to "combine" multiple calls to ID3DXFont::DrawText to do such things... I looked around and there doesn't seem to be any existing libraries that do these things, but I have no idea how to implement such a text renderer, and I couldn't even find any documentation on how such a text render would work, only rendering simple fixed width, ASCII bitmap fonts which looking at it is probably an entirely different approach that is only suitable for rendering simple blocks of text where Unicode is not important. If there's no direct3d font renders capable of doing this, is there any other renderers (eg for use in rendering rich text in a normal window), and would rendering those to a texture in RAM, then uploading that to the video card to render onto the back buffer yield reasonable performance?

  • Error URL redirection

So the urls of each book are like this: example.com/book/the-bible/gesu-crist/938/12/ I want that if there is an error in the url, then I get redirected to the real url by using book.id in the end of the url. For example if I go to: example.com/book/A-bible/gesu-crist/938/12/ the I will get redirected to: example.com/book/the-bible/gesu-crist/938/12/ but I go to wrong url I will get this error: TypeError at /book/A-bible/gesu-crist/938/12/ %d format: a number is required, not unicode . Why ? What I have to do ?

  • Deserialization of JSON object by using DataContractJsonSerializer in C#

    - by user2539667
    enter code hereI'm sure this question has been asked over and over again, but for some reason, I still can't manage to get this to work. I want to deserialize a JSON object that contains a single member; a string array: [{"idTercero":"cod_Tercero"}] This is the class that I'm trying to deserialize into: [DataContract] public class rptaOk { [DataMember] public string idTercero { get; set; } public rptaOk() { } public rptaOk(string idTercero) { this.idTercero = idTercero; } } This is the method that I try to deserialize: public T Deserialise<T>(string json) { DataContractJsonSerializer deserializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(typeof(T)); using (MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream(Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(json))) { T result = (T)deserializer.ReadObject(stream); return result; } } And so try to fill the object: rptaOk deserializedRpta = deserializarOk(rpta); But for some reason, this returns "" MessageBox.Show(deserializedRpta.idTercero);

  • Python decoding issue with hashlib.digest() method

    - by Sorw
    Hello StackOverflow community, Using Google App Engine, I wrote a keyToSha256() method within a model class (extending db.Model) : class Car(db.Model): def keyToSha256(self): keyhash = hashlib.sha256(str(self.key())).digest() return keyhash When displaying the output (ultimately within a Django template), I get garbled text, for example : ?????_??!`?I?!?;?QeqN??Al?'2 I was expecting something more in line with this : 9f86d081884c7d659a2feaa0c55ad015a3bf4f1b2b0b822cd15d6c15b0f00a08 Am I missing something important ? Despite reading several guides on ASCII, Unicode, utf-8 and the like, I think I'm still far from mastering the secrets of string encoding/decoding. After browsing StackOverflow and searching for insights via Google, I figured out I should ask the question here. Any idea ? Thanks !

  • Python: Which encoding is used for processing sys.argv?

    - by EOL
    What encoding are the elements of sys.argv in, in Python? are they encoded with the sys.getdefaultencoding() encoding? sys.getdefaultencoding(): Return the name of the current default string encoding used by the Unicode implementation. PS: As pointed out in some of the answers, sys.stdin.encoding would indeed be a better guess. I would love to see a definitive answer to this question, though, with pointers to solid sources! PPS: As Wim pointed out, Python 3 solves this issue by putting str objects in sys.argv (if I understand correctly). The question remains open for Python 2.x, though. Under Unix, the LC_CTYPE environment variable seems to be the correct thing to check, no? What should be done with Windows (so that sys.argv elements are correctly interpreted whatever the console)?

  • Scrape HTML tables from a given URL into CSV

    - by dreeves
    I seek a tool that can be run on the command line like so: tablescrape 'http://someURL.foo.com' [n] If n is not specified and there's more than one HTML table on the page, it should summarize them (header row, total number of rows) in a numbered list. If n is specified or if there's only one table, it should parse the table and spit it to stdout as CSV or TSV. Potential additional features: To be really fancy you could parse a table within a table, but for my purposes -- fetching data from wikipedia pages and the like -- that's overkill. The Perl module HTML::TableExtract can do this and may be good place to start for writing the tool I have in mind. An option to asciify any unicode. An option to apply an arbitrary regex substitution for fixing weirdnesses in the parsed table. McLean'], u'status': [u'Checked Out'], u'date_matched_on': [u'5/20/2010 10:57 AM']} And form.save() throws this error: Exception in photo_match: The Entity could not be changed because the data didn't validate. I have been trying to figure out why this is happening, but cannot pinpoint the exact problem. I can change my Entities in the admin interface just fine. If anybody has a clue about this I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Igor

  • Ideas for web development practical jokes?

    - by Ellie P.
    I am a web developer for a Django-based site for a student organization, and I have the opportunity to make the website temporarily absurd for a day of general campus-wide debauchery and chaos (long story, doesn't matter.) What are your best ideas for web development practical jokes (that you could never use in the real world)? For example, one idea we had was to use a client-side script to convert each character to its upside down equivalent in Unicode, si?? ??i? ?ui????os. I'm not necessarily looking for Django-specific solutions. I imagine most of these things would happen on the front-end. I am also quite aware that usability will suffer considerably--the point is to be fun for a day, and there will always be a link to the normal version of the site. Also, everything must be relatively cosmetic and easily reversible--I'm happy to swap out static CSS/JS/HTML/templates/images, and even temporarily add a django view, but no messing with the data level!

  • Why isn't pyinstaller making me an .exe file?

  • Using AesCryptoServiceProvider in VB.NET

    - by Collegeman
    My problem is actually a bit more complicated than just how to use AES in VB.NET, since what I'm really trying to do is use AES in VB.NET from within a Java application across JACOB. But for now, what I need to focus on is the AES implementation itself. Here's my encryption code Public Function EncryptAES(ByVal toEncrypt As String, ByVal key As String) As Byte() Dim keyArray = Convert.FromBase64String(key) Dim toEncryptArray = Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(toEncrypt) Dim aes = New AesCryptoServiceProvider aes.Key = keyArray aes.Mode = CipherMode.ECB aes.Padding = PaddingMode.ISO10126 Dim encryptor = aes.CreateEncryptor() Dim encrypted = encryptor.TransformFinalBlock(toEncryptArray, 0, toEncryptArray.Length) aes.Clear() Return encrypted End Function Once back in the Java code, I turn the byte array into a hexadecimal String. Now, to reverse the process, here's my decryption code Public Function DecryptAES(ByVal toDecrypt As String, ByVal key As String) As Byte() Dim keyArray = Convert.FromBase64String(key) Dim toDecryptArray = Convert.FromBase64String(toDecrypt) Dim aes = New AesCryptoServiceProvider aes.Key = keyArray aes.Mode = CipherMode.ECB aes.Padding = PaddingMode.ISO10126 Dim decryptor = aes.CreateDecryptor() Dim decrypted = decryptor.TransformFinalBlock(toDecryptArray, 0, toDecryptArray.Length) aes.Clear() Return decrypted End Function When I run the decryption code, I get the following error message Padding is invalid and cannot be removed.
