  • Setup automated calling during an ETL failure

    Just started working on a large data warehouse project that runs some large ETLs every night. In the event of an error I receive an email, but I was hoping to somehow create something that will automatically call me, so I don't have to wake up and check my email at 4 every morning to make sure the ETLs finished properly. I know I can setup an SMS pretty easily, but I don't think that will be enough to wake me up :) Anyone have any experience trying to do this before?

    I'm upgrading/bootstrapping a desktop with new everything Win7 64bit from Vista 32bit. I see that IE9 is newly released and start the install. IE9 Setup requires and offers to close these programs due to overlapping files used. Firefox Chrome Java(TM) Platform SE binary Java(TM) update scheduler Skype, Trillian, Winamp, etc. How safe is this? I fear getting yet another MS Firefox add-on or toolbar.

In running a Windows 8 - 64 bits machine, with Apache 2.0.64 32 bits Python 2.7.8 32 bits mod_wsgi 3.5 32 bits I looked around the web, but all the problem but everywhere says that it's a problem with the architecture of the software, but I already installed them all with the 32 bits version.

  • Proper upgrade path for Windows 7 to Windows 8 when the directory setup is non-standard

    I have both a HDD and a SSD in my computer and after installing Windows I moved things around a little to ensure that the OS is on the SSD but my user profile resides on the SSD (with a few exceptions). I used junction points heavily for that. Windows and most applications are fine with that and it works well. Now I wonder whether I can in-place upgrade this to Windows 8 while retaining that exact setup or whether there is anything I can do to ease the upgrade process.

  • DirectX SDK Setup is freezing

    On my windows XP machine when I try to install the DirectX SDK the setup freezes on the first screen. When I click on the "next" button the system does some processing and stays on the same window. Clicking again on the next button does nothing. The directX SDK log only contains a single entry for each try: 12/01/09 09:49:03: DXSDKSetup: CLR version number = 2.0.50727 any ideas? Thank you!

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, and I would like to take advantage of the docking feature, whereby you can drag a window to the side of the monitor and have it expand and fill to half the screen. It may also be done by a malware installed to Windows on dual-boot system without any physical access. Am I missing some protection scheme or at least I may verify that /boot contents didn't change since last system shutdown?

    Hi When Compiling my Web Deployment Project which references a Asp.Net project with a App_Browsers folder I get the following compilation error: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe -v /[PROJECTNAME].csproj -p "[FILEPATH]" -u -f -d .\TempBuildDir\ ASPNETCOMPILER : error ASPRUNTIME: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If I remove the App_Browsers folder everything works perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is what we do when we push updates to the production. In VS, publish the smart-client application into a localhost directory Copy/Paste the directory to the webservers The deployment address from VS is localhost while it is being used in some other production website.     I created a quick game in VS Express (2008) and used the built-in deployment tool (click once?) to create an installer. I took it to another computer, ran it (Windows XP) to install from a burned CD. It created the program but only for the logged in user. Is there a setting I'm missing for installing it to all users on an XP system? Or is this a limitation of the Express edition's installer?

    I'm looking into using group policy to deploy a couple of applications. I want to have the log of each installation written to a shared folder on a file server for tracking purposes. I can create the log if I pass the appropriate parameters. For example: msiexec /i Package.msi /l*vx c:\Package.log However using group policy for the deployment, you can't pass any parameters to the installation file. Is there anyway to specify the log file location in the process of creating the msi package?
