  • What's Microsoft's strategy on Windows CE development?

    Lots of specialized mobile devices use Windows CE or Windows Mobile. I'm not talking about smart phones here -- I know that Windows Phone 7 is Microsoft's current technology of choice here. I'm talking about barcode readers, embedded devices, industry PDAs with specialized hardware, etc... the kind of devices (Example 1, Example 2) where Windows Phone Silverlight development is not an option (no P/Invoke to access the hardware, etc.). Since direct Compact Framework support has been dropped in Visual Studio 2010, the only option to develop for these device currently is to use outdated development tools (VS 2008), which already start to cause trouble on modern machines (e.g. there's no supported way to make the Windows Mobile Device Emulator's network stack work on Windows 7). Thus, my question is: What are Microsoft's plans regarding these mobile devices? Will they allow native applications on Windows Phone, such that, for example, barcode reader drivers can be developed that can be accessed in Silverlight applications? Will they re-add "native" Compact Framework support to Visual Studio and just haven't found the time yet? Or will they leave this niche market?

  • Huawei e303c data-card not working for Ubuntu 11.04?

    Cheers to you. I got a problem in making a Mobile-BroadBand connection in Ubuntu 11.04, using 'Huawei e303c' usb data-card. I'm using Tata Docomo 3G sim-card (India, circle: Maharastra). My observations: 1.) I installed the device's driver 'Mobile-Partner For Linux'(which came up with the device). But it is not detecting my device. 2.) In Network Manager, Adding a Mobile-BroadBand connection is not able to detect the device (with or without the device's driver installed). 3.)I tried softwares like usb_modeswitch, gnomeppp, wvdial, sakis3G and followed their guidelines. These too didn't work. 4.) Without the driver, the system is able to identify the device (Mobile-Partner icon comes-up, that leads to driver setup files). But after installing the driver, nothing comes-up there. 5.) In all the above cases, when 'lsusb' cmd is fired, the prompt shows the connected data card (as 'DEVICE_ID:VENDOR_ID Huawei Technologies Ltd.,'). This is my problem.   • Jquery mobile and Google maps [on hold]

    I have been trying to get my google maps to display within a page of a mobile app. The map will display for a second, and then disappear.   • Java ME right to left TextField label

    Hello, I'm writing a Java ME app and i need the label for the text field to be right aligned.. I've tried setting the layout of the TextField to Item.RIGHT but it doesn't seem to affect anything when running on my test phone (Nokia E71). The text inside the TextField is right aligned and Lists and such items are desplayed correctly (RTL aligned) but the TextField label isn't. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How to disable WM6.5.3 gestures?

    I am working on a .NET 2.0 application targetting the WM5 SDK, what is the correct way to disable the gesture functionality when running on a WM6.5.3 device that only affects the forms I am using? This is causing an issue when I have a signature capture control inside a tab control - when the signature is entered it's quite common for the tab control to switch tabs as WM6.5.3 picks it up as a gesture. I don't want to disable the gesture functionality device wide, nor can I upgrade the application to target the WM6.5.3 SDK as it still needs to work on older devices. Cheers

  • CaptureCameraDialog returns OK but does not save (Motorola ES400)

    Ok it seems like everyone in the world has issues with CaptureCameraDialog. In my case the result is OK, but when taking the photo there is a MessageBox that says "Error" that appears and disappears in the blink of an eye, then returns to my app (so I don't have time to actually read the error). It has not saved the file. It does not throw an error to my application. There is also another issue which is exactly the same as the issue talked about here (yet none of the fixes work for me). http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-4025602.php Does anyone know how to get the "error message" that the dialogue box displays for an instant?

    Hiya, A client of ours is attending a business fair and would like to push some sort of "welcome message" to people visiting their space. I'm not too familiar with Bluetooth, so I have a few questions: What kind of content can you transfer via Bluetooth? (Is it files only or is it possible to send a simple text message?) Is it possible to push content only to recipients within a certain distance? (ie. based on signal strength or similar) Can anybody recommend a piece of software that can do some or all of the above? If necessary we could program a custom solution ourselves (.NET), but I'm sure there must be a program out there that can do the job. I've googled a bit and came across the 32feet.NET framework - does anybody have any experience with this framework? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    I know this question is not programming related, so for this I made community wiki. Developers are the best guys to answer the question. I am addressed to those that do development on devices that runs on batteries, like phones, gadgets etc. Probably you are constantly develop for them, and therefor they are always plugged in and charged at 100%. We develop mainly for smartphones and we have devices that were always above 90% charged in the last month or so. If a battery is always charged, it degrades it life cycle, so what steps you do to ensure decent battery drain to maximize the life of the batteries.
