• Suddenly today, no HDMI on both Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7. What is HDA driver?

  In the past, I just plug in hdmi, then boot laptop, and I have display on tv. Today my tv reads as "No Signal". When I go into "sound" on dashboard, there is No HDMI option. I don't understand what could have changed in the past few days. I also have Windows 7 on this machine, and I have same issue on there as well. In Ubuntu I scanned for drivers, and it asked if I wanted to activate HDA driver for DKMS. I'm not sure what that is. I googled and it looks like an audio driver. In Windows, Its says driver is up to date.

• Need help with AMD catalyst control center

  I just built my first HTPC and I hooked it up to my Sony KDS-R60XBR1 and I am having display issues. I believe this is only a 1080i display and when I select 1920x1080 on the resolution I get strange lines on the display when anything moves on screen. I am guessing this is because it is putting it in 1080p and the TV cannot process that. As of now I have lowered the resolution and that worked but I would like to get this set at 1080. Also I cannot change the underscan. I am stuck with black borders around the display image. When I pull up the catalyst control center on my computer I am able to adjust all of this stuff but on the one on my HTPC with the TV display I have no options. See images below.

• Black frame around screen after HDMI connection failure

  I was trying to watch a movie in my computer through the TV, so I connected both with an HDMI cable. I was unable to have a successful setup (the colors were all weird on the TV and the screen size, incorrect), I tried many resolutions using the nvidia-settings application and somehow my screen got framed by a black border and after that I have been unable to remove it, even after restarting the computer and not being connected to the HDMI cable anymore. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 amd64, my GPU is an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT and I am using the propietary driver version 280. The problem is due to some setting with my account only. I logged in to the guest session and the resolution is right there. Also, my desktop "thinks" the resolution is right (i.e. 1280x800), but it must be right in another scale because there is pixel area occupied by the black frame.

  Over the weekend I worked a little more on my ACS2 sample. Instead of writing it all down, I decided to quickly record four short videos that cover the relevant features and code. Have fun ;) Part 1 – Overview This video does a quick walkthrough of the solution and shows the web application part. Unfortunately there is currently no standard WIF plumbing for REST. For the service integration I had to combine a lot of code from different sources (kzu, zulfiq) as well as the WIF SDK and OAuth CTPs together. I have a problem with my video card, I have a video card GeForce GTS 450 and a TV Samsung Series 4 43 "and I have it connected to my video card via a cable Mini HDMI to the TV and everything works perfectly, I can instarlar Ubuntu 12.04 (64bits) perfectly, but the problem when I want to change the screen resolution but try to change the driver I install that comes directly from the Nvidia page gave me an error at the end. maximum resolution I presents is 1024x 768 and is supposed to introduce more resolutions and that is connected to the HDMI. A someone else has happened???? Will have some sort of solution???? I hope someone can help me and I thank you very much. Regards

• What is the "don't force full gpu scalling" configuration in the newest Nvida driver settings?

  I have a Zotac Ion board on a computer running Linux ad I had the driver version 295.xx. I was trying to run a 1080 video on XBMC and, because playback was a bit sluggish, part of my (unsuccessful) attempt at making it run smoothly was to upgrade the Nvidia driver. The problem is that the computer is connected by HDMI to a Pioneer A/V system - which in turn is connected to the TV (also through HDMI). When I created this set up I didn't get any image on my tv until I Unchecked "force full gpu scaling" in "Flat Panel Scaling". After upgrading the Nvidia driver I no longer have image. Upon investigating, I saw on the release changelog: Removed Flat Panel Scaling configurability in nvidia-settings. Any desired scaling can be configured through the new "ViewPortIn" and "ViewPortOut" MetaMode attributes. I know very little about this, however, so I'm lost. What would the correct configuration be with these new ViewPortIn/Out options to achieve the same result as "unchecking force full gpu scalling"?

• Socket php server not showing messages sent from android client

  Hi I am a newbie in these kind of stuff but here's what i want to do. I am trying to implement a chat application in which users will send their queries from the website and as soon as the messages are sent by the website users.It will appear in the android mobile application of the site owner who will answer their queries .In short I wanna implement a live chat. Now right now I am just simply trying to send messages from android app to php server. But when I run my php script from dreamweaver in chrome the browser keeps on loading and doesn't shows any output when I send message from the client. Sometimes it happened that the php script showed some outputs which I have sent from the android(client).But i don't know when it works and when it does not. So I want to show those messages in the php script as soon as I send those messages from client and vice versa(did not implemented the vice versa for client but help will be appreciated). • How do multiple displays work on a AMD 785G / ATI HD 4200 motherboard?

  I just ordered a ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO which has the AMD 785G chipset and HD4200 integrated graphic. The board has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. I'm wondering how many outputs I can run at once, and from what connectors? My guess is that I can only use the VGA, and either the DVI or the HDMI in a dual setup. But not the HDMI and the DVI at the same time. Is this correct? If I have devices plugged into both the HDMI and the DVI ports is there a way to choose between which port I want to use? I have a dual 19" monitor setup, as well as a LCD TV. I'd like to run the VGA and the DVI into my two monitors, and then the HDMI to my TV. Then when I want to watch something on the TV I'd like to be able to switch over from the DVI to the HDMI. Is this possible with out crawling under my desk and unplugging/plugging things in? Update I found the following in the manual off ASUS's website, which confirms my original suspicion that HDMI and DVI can't be used at the same time. But I'd still like to know if it's possible through software to switch between using the HDMI and DVI.

• Apple video adapters: Mini-DVI to DVI + DVI to video?

  I have: a Macbook (which has Mini-DVI output) an Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter (so I can hook up my Macbook to my DVI LCD) a Mac mini (which has DVI output) I see that I can get a DVI-to-Video (s-video and composite) adapter from Apple that will let me hook up my Mac mini to my TV set (which has only component, s-video, and composite -- nothing digital). So far so good. Question: Will that same adapter also let me hook my Macbook to my TV? That is, can I hook Macbook - Mini-DVI to DVI - DVI to video - TV set, and see picture? I know there are digital/analog/integrated variants of DVI, and it's not at all clear to me what pins these things have and what signals they're sending. One website I found suggested that it would work, and another suggested that it wouldn't even physically connect. So I'm looking for, ideally, someone who's actually tried it, or has these adapters sitting around to try. I know I can buy 2 adapters (Mini-DVI to Video, and DVI to Video) to do this, but at $20 a pop I'll avoid that if at all possible.

• Flash alternative for iBook Mac?

  I have a old Apple iBook G4 that I decided to hook up to my main TV. I like the setup because I can surf the internet on my TV now. The only thing that I can't seem to do is watch Flash videos. Apparently Flash Player 10 doesn't play nice with the iBook's graphics card's GPU, leaving all the graphics processing to the CPU which is a disaster. Others suggested downgrading to Flash Player 9, I did that, and youtube worked fine, but Hulu (The main reason I wanted to hook it up to the TV in the first place) did not. Anyone know of a Flash alternative or a Flash 10 fix for the iBook? Or even a Hulu client that doesn't require Flash. • Weird PCI bug: lots of missed packets, or data comes in "bursts"

  I have an ABIT KN9 motherboard. It has one PCI-e x16 slot, three PCI-e x4 slots and two legacy PCI. My problem is with the legacy PCI (which I shall just call "PCI".) I currently have an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT (a low end card) installed in the x16 slot and a TV card in PCI #1; the x4 slots are unused, as is PCI #2. I plan to upgrade the graphics card soon, the current card was spare. I sometimes install a USB expander in PCI #2 but it causes a lot of problems - see below. The problem is under Linux (Ubuntu 10.10, Linux 2.6.35-22-generic), but probably under all operating systems (I have not yet been able to test Windows, but I suspect it will do the same as the problems occur on the BIOS/POST side too, e.g. when using a USB keyboard on the expander the keyboard will not work at all) PCI has an enourmous delay, and packets arrive in large chunks. For example, when using the USB expander, my USB mouse lags and jumps in large steps every second or so, while using the motherboard USB does not present this problem. My TV card will only do one or two frames per second, and the program (xawtv) usually times out and crashes. In dmesg, I'm getting messages like: bttv0: timeout: drop=74, irq=154/100476, risc=31f6256c, bits: VSYNC HSYNC OFLOW RISCI for my TV card, and similar timeout issues for my USB expander with a mouse. I received the motherboard, processor and RAM second hand and have only just got around to building it, so I don't know if this problem has always existed, or if it's a result of my set up. If anyone has any hints or solutions it would be appreciated - this is kind of a show-stopper for me.

I've found jtvlc and tried using that, but whenever I use it the stream comes out either blank or lagged with extremely high latency. • Games, Windows 8.1 and 144Hz display

  So I have been having problems with few games after switching from 7 to 8.1, which seems to be related to my 144Hz monitor. Few examples: Shank, Shank 2, Blood of the Werewolf, Astebreed, the Sims 2 and Rayman Legends patch 1.2Had few other as well but it's been long and I have 600+ steam library. From those games at least the Sims 2 and Shank worked without any problems with same setup and Windows 7. So basically these games simply refuse to launch with basic setup. However if I plug 60Hz TV with HDMI instead everything magically starts to work. As for Astebreed and the Sims 2 using windowed mode seems to also work. As for Rayman Demo and version 1.0 works for some reason and 1.2 breaks settings menu. I have already tried contacting supports. EA support stated game simply shouldn't work with 8.1 at all (which is lie as it works with that TV and friend with 8 plays just fine), ubisoft support took few weeks and support said he will forward info for further processing, blood of the werewolf support had no idea what's going on and told me to just use my TV instead.Changing monitors refresh rate to 120Hz or forcing it to 60Hz doesn't do anything. I have DVI right now but I will try with DisplayPort when I get the cable. At PCGW Garrett said it may have something to do how listing resolutions work with 8 compared to earlier Windows versions but my googling skills don't bring anything up and compatibility mode for earlier windows version doesn't work either (not that I expected that to work). My system specs are on my steam profile. How do I get those work with my 144Hz monitor as well as possible future games having same problem? Downgrading to 7 would work but is far from practical and I don't own legit lisence for that one.

• Gigabyte H55N-USB3: No video on HDMI

  I built a new PC with a Gigabyte H55N-USB3 / Intel Core i5 650. With a monitor plugged in the DVI port, everything works fine. I installed Windows 7 32-bit and enabled remote desktop connection. After that, I unplugged the monitor, plugged it into network and installed everything else (drivers, programs, etc) via RDP. However, when I try to use the HDMI port on my TV nothing appears. Neither during the boot, neither after Windows starts. The TV says there's "no signal" (if I remove the cable the message changes to "check cable"). The cable is new, and it is working fine with my home theater on same TV (by the way, it is the cable which came bundled with the home theater). Video driver is the latest from Intel site. Anyway, this shouldn't be the problem since there is no image during the boot. Any ideas or tips would be welcome. I'm googling around but found nothing useful, yet.

• Rendering a frame is producing noise from speakers in Windows and Linux

  When any hardware accelerated application is rendering a frame (or many of them) a very short noise is coming from my speakers. This can be a game, a WebGL application or XBMC. When the application/game is rendering many frames per second (like most of them do) the noise is a continuous buzzing that gets higher pitched with higher framerates. This applies to Linux and Windows, so I'd assume it's a hardware problem. The current hardware in the PC is: CPU: Core2Quad Q9550 GPU: Radeon HD 5770 RAM: 2x2GB DDR2 Motherboard: Asus P5QLD PRO PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 530W Screen and speakers: Old 720p LCD TV connected via VGA and aux cable Muting the TV stops the noise, muting Windows doesn't. I tried replacing the PSU first (used a Tagan 700W PSU before) because I thought it was a power problem. It wasn't. I tried replacing the motherboard (used a ASUS P5B SE before) next because I thought it was a sound card problem. It wasn't. I tried the GPU in a different PC because I thought it was a broken graphics card. It worked perfectly fine in the other PC. I thought it might be interference, but moving the audio cable around changes absolutely nothing. I tried using an HDMI cable instead and that did work, but is not an option since my TV has only one HDMI input and I need that for my PS3.

• MP3 files cut off in the Ubuntu One Android app

  I noticed today on my phone (Droid X running Android 2.2.1) that when streaming the Ubuntu One app would skip to the next song before the previous one had finished. Looking into it, one of the mp3s downloaded from the server was only 2.5MB instead of 4.2MB as it shows on the server itself via one.ubuntu.com. It's happened with multiple tracks today (I remember it happening once the first time I used the app too but shrugged it off as a glitch). The app itself shows a star on the playlist item indicating the file was downloaded even though it was apparently cut off for some reason, perhaps lack of good cell coverage, or some sort of dropped connection. It seems like the latter may be happening and instead of showing an error or retrying it just stops and shows the download is complete.

  We have some suspicious requests to our server, 74.125.186.46 - - [24/Aug/2014:23:24:11 -0500] "GET <url> HTTP/1.1" 200 16912 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; bingbot/2.0; +http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm)" 74.125.187.193 - - [24/Aug/2014:23:24:12 -0500] "GET <url> HTTP/1.1" 200 20119 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; bingbot/2.0; +http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm)" As it shows, user-agent shows it is bingbot. But whois data of IP address(74.125.186.46 and 74.125.187.193) shows it is from google servers. So is it Google,Bing or any other content scrappers?

• Bash script not working as required with xbindkeys

  I made a simple bash script to display a notification whenever my capslock key is pressed. It works fine when I call it like bash capsnotify.sh. The problem now is when I bind my above script to capslock key using xbindkeys tool it doesn't work as required. • My Ubuntu drive is running out of space, how to fix, something is wrong

  I'm moving from windows and am having trouble figuring this out: I'm getting a message that pops up saying disk space is low. It says I have 800MB free. I click on the disk usage analyzer and it shows 24.6 total capacity and 22.5 used. When I look in GParted it shows a partition at 72.6GB where I have Ubuntu installed. It also shows that 70.65GB used and 1.94 free in that partition. How do I figure out what else is in that partition? It's the only ext4 format. What am I missing?

• Connected to wifi, but quits loading pages after a random amount of time

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.10, on a TOSHIBA Satellite L755 laptop, and using a Cradlepoint MBR-1000 wireless router. The wifi supposedly works fine on my sisters' and mom's laptops, and my dad uses a wired connection through the router. Nobody else has the problem. It shows that I'm connected and everything. The network manager GUI shows that everything is going just dandy... but it's not. I'll be able to load a page or two, then I have to disconnect, and reconnect to the router to get it to work again for a couple minutes. I noticed when I was downstairs, close to the router, this problem seemed to go away (at least, I was connected for a couple of hours without running into this problem). • Passing Parameters Between Web-Services and JSF Pages

The scenario – we have two web services, one returns a list of objects, the other allows us to update an object. We want to build a page flow where the first page shows us the list of objects, allows us to select one, and then we can edit that instance in the next page and call the second web service to update our data source. The demo shows: How to select a row and save the object value in a pageFlowScope. (using setPropertyListener).
