• Show a modal right after signup?

  When a user signup at my page I want them to be redirected to the root_path(this I have figured out how to do in the user controller). But then I want a modal to show in front of this page(and this should only happen the first time the user see this root/home page(like a flash message). Here is my create method in the user controller: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save sign_in @user redirect_to root_path else render 'new' end end The modal is placed in app/views/layouts/_modal.html.erb. Does anybody know how to make this happen? (Jepp, I am a newbie :)

  I am developing an asp.net mvc4 application with Bootstrap 3 and i've _Layout.cshtml in "Shared" folder , in Views, i've two pages, "Index and "Register" and i've included Layout in both of these Views but It seems that Layout is included in only "Index and not in "Register" View.   I am looking for examples of code/data/infrastructure design for a dashboard-style webapp. I am designing an interface for staff and faculty at a university to access departmental resources and be alerted of cyclical processes, events, deadlines, etc. Technologies I am working with: apache tomcat 6 and a mySQL database, JSP (including JSTL), bootstrap 3, and javascript/jquery. I have basic experience most of these technologies building smaller web apps but was hoping someone could direct me towards a book or other resource that discusses how to design the db architecture (and maybe how to template) for a dashboard, esp. for something like a notification systems. Any suggestions?

• Change cursor style in firefox input file tag

  I have been trying to change the cursor style to look like a pointer rather than an I beam thing, but it looks like FF does not respect the cursor spec in an input file field. For example, I have made this small fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/jDZtn/4/ where Id like the cursor to look like a pointer rather than an Ibeam when the user hovers over it. My end plan is to introduce opacity==0 and use a clickable button over it. I am not sure if this behaviour is a bug or not.

• Bootstrap jquery methods Magento's prototype lib

  Wonder if anyone has had this issue. I've integrated Bootstrap nicely into a Magento theme I'm building, all good. That is, until I try using the accordian functions. There seems to be an issue with the code finding the Prototype Libs Methods instead of jQuery's. I've tried the usual fixes, $ - jQuery and no conflict but it only works when I disable the prototype lib - which obviously is not good. Anyone out there come across this and can advise me on a work round? At the moment I'm resigned to using Scriptaculous for the accordian.

• Bootstrap site mobile view not using full viewport

  I'm currently making a responsive blog using the bootstrap 3.0 framework. I'm using the 1197 Max-width container for my content and it renders fine on desktops. However, when I try opening the site on my phone (I'm using an Android Galaxy Note 2), there is a lot of extra padding on the right and left sides of the viewport. I've tried following the API docs and guides as close as possible, but still can't get this to work. Here is the site I am working on http://www.justinbar.net Does anyone know what is going on with this? Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to override default behavior (which sounds a bit hacky to me).

• How to format the Facebook news feed description of grouped app posts?

  I have an app which posts a message like this to a user's Facebook timeline: This is working fine, but if I post a few times, my posts get grouped on my news feed, and I get this: What settings should I use to control the way this news report appears? Instead of 'All about periods' and the page link in the box at the top, I'd like 'Body iQ Quiz' and the app description. Where would I set these values? And is it possible to make the grouped report say 'Jay cee Effex shared a link via Body iQ Quiz', the way the original post does? I'm posting from the Facebook AS3 API, and my post code looks like this: var auth:FacebookAuthResponse = Facebook.getAuthResponse(); var token:String = auth.accessToken; var user:String = auth.uid; var values:Object = { access_token: token, name: "Body iQ Quiz", picture: "http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/282950_427728213914009_630526316_n.jpg", link:"http://www.lil-lets.co.uk/en-GB/Wellbeing", description: "Women, how well do we know our bodies? Click here to find out what your Body iQ is.", message: result.FacebookBody + " " + result.FacebookTitle }; Facebook.api("/" + user + "/feed", handleSubmitFeed, values, URLRequestMethod.POST); ... but I'm not sure if this is something I can fix in code, or if the app configuration needs tweaking? NOTE: Some users report getting the latter format in their news feed even with a single post (I can't reproduce this), so perhaps grouping is a red herring, and the real question is how to format the news feed report of a timeline post?
