• What should I do if I have a genius team lead which does not share? [on hold]

  Good evening, I got some uncertainties and need some advise or any experiences 'story' from you guys. The question is quite straight forward but I gonna clarify somethings in details. My Background I just graduated from my university 6 months ago. Being offer from 4 companies after I go through some interviews. Now I'm working on a banking services company, everything is consider 'ok' except I had a genius team lead which does not share enough information to let me do a task/work. Situation faced In my team, there is a "ask to know" culture. When you are going to guess or try some methods to solve the problems, I need to ask to make sure I do not do something stupid and when I asked my team lead...There're only 2 situations, 1st: I being given a strange look like: "do you know what are you do/said just now? Just follow the standards, I do not care!" (Felt humiliated) 2nd: Get the answer but my team lead suddenly in bad moods, I think thats I have waste her time for some simple questions which I do not know. Add-Ons My team lead is really a clever and a smart senior developers/programmers, sometimes she will brief through the tasks while sometimes not. Depend on her moods. There certain times I am look-down on myself and felt want to quit/resign. I'm still under-probation and had joined this company for around 4 months. I felt like I do not have the innovation skills which I used to had in university and lose my self-confidence when communicate to others.

• Can I share data between two users in an ASP.NET Application?

  I have an issue with Roles.IsUserInRole function. It take hell amount of time to just check if the logged-in user is in particular role(typ 3-9 sec). I searched to find a solution and arrived on this but I am not sure If I have fully grasped it. What I got from the above, A new derived class is created. Inside that class, there is a list which retrieves all user at once. The next time you check IsUserInRole, you do not use the actual IsUserInRole method but rather use the one you overrode in your class. Is this the correct description? Am I on track? My question is, can data be share between two different users in ASP.NET application? If yes, will the shared data exist only if there is at least one user logged in. If all users logs out, that shared data is destroyed? My point is this data will be created only one time whenever a user logs in. For all subsequent users they can use this data and check their roles against the list? I need a detailed answer. My application has users and different roles. We are using ASP.NET roles.

  Javascript and jQuery (Fancybox) question I'm using the Javascript function below for Twitter sharing (as well as other services; the function code is simplified to just Twitter for this question) that grabs the to-be-shared page URL and title and it is invoked in the link with onclick. That results in the Twitter share page loading in a pop up browser window, i.e.<img src="/images/twitter_16.png" onclick="share.tw()" /> In order to be consistent with other design aspects of the site, what I'd like to be able to do is have the Twitter share page open not in a standard browser window but in a Fancybox (jQuery) window. Fancybox can load an external page in an iFrame when the img or href link contains a class (in this case class="iframe" ) in the link and in the document ready function in the header. Right now, of course, when I give the iframe class to the link that also has the onclick share.tw(), I get two popups: one browser window popup with the correct Twitter share page loaded, and a Fancybox jQuery popup that shows a site 404. How can I change the function to use Fancybox to present the Twitter share page? Is that a correct way to approach it? Or is there a better way, such as implementing the share function in jQuery, too? Thanks... • Can you share offline files cache with two user accounts?

  I have a new laptop that I use for both home and work. It runs windows 7 ultimate, and is joined to the domain at work. It is okay to use this laptop for both work and personal activities, and I even have an account set up on the local machine in addition to the work domain account specifically for this to help keep the two separate. At home, I have a file server that I use to share files and printers with my wife's laptop, this new laptop, and my old desktop which will now become the family machine. My mp3 library is on there, among other things. What I want to do is use the windows Offline Files feature to keep a synced copy of my music library on the laptop. That part is easy. What's tricky is that I want to share this offline cache between both the local account on the laptop and my work domain account. I could do them both separately, but then I have two copies of a very large music library stored locally. This also means twice the sync burden, when the domain account is rarely connected to the file share. I really want to be able to sync from the local machine account only, and have the domain account be able to use the synced files. I know where the offline file cache is kept (\Windows\CSC) and I can find the cached files (not encrypted), but permissions on the cache are setup weird, and so using that cache directly is not trivial. Any ideas appreciated.

• How do I set up a Windows NFS share so that I can view it's contents on Linux?

  My NFS server is a Windows XP SP3 box with the Microsoft Windows Services for Unix installed. I have a share configured under C:\NFS with the share name NFS and ANSI encoding. Anonymous access is enabled, with the anon UID/GID set to 0/0. Additionally, I've set ALL MACHINES to Read-Write, and checked the checkbox to Allow root access. My first NFS client is a Ubuntu 10.04 box, with nfs-common installed. Running sudo mount -t nfs 1.1.1.1:/NFS /home/user/NFS succeeds, but when I attempt to view the folder (even as root), it tells me that I do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of the folder. My second NFS client is an IBM iSeries box running OS/400 V5R3. I used the mount command below: MOUNT TYPE(*NFS) MFS('1.1.1.1:/NFS') MNTOVRDIR('/PARENT/NFS') OPTIONS('rw,nosuid,retry=5,rsize=8096,wsize=8096,timeo=20,retrans=2,acregmin=30,acregmax=60,acdirmin=30,acdirmax=60,soft') CODEPAGE(*BINARY *ASCII) which also mounts successfully. Attempting to WRKLNK '/PARENT/NFS' and use Option 5 to enter the directory yields a Not authorized to object error - even though I am a security officer with the *ALLOBJ special authority. My gut says that it's a problem with the Windows share, but I don't know what it could be. Do you have any suggestions?

• What is going on when I can't access an SMB server share (not accessible error) until I run cmdkey to delete the credential?

  I have a network connection share issue. The first connection works, and seems to stay connected for at least a few hours. However, after each time my windows 7 PC reboots, it can no longer form a network connection to the shared folder, nor browse to it, until I not only unmap and remap the mapped drive, but also, I have to use cmdkey to delete the stored credentials like this: cmdkey /delete:Domain:target=HOSTNAME My work PC is on a domain, and I am not the IT administrator, but I'm curious if there is anything I can do to investigate this issue. Any settings in registry or group policy that I could examine to see why the first connection works, but each subsequent attempt (once a stored credential exists) to browse or use the connection, fails with a connection error saying it is "not accessible", like this: I do not even get any error until at least several minutes go by. THe first thing I see is a window frozen and empty, and then I get this error: This has happened when connecting to a share on a DROBO device, and on a share which is not on the domain, but which was a Microsoft Home Server. I wonder if there's something broken in WIndows 7 professional with regards to connecting to non-domain shares when an active directory domain controller exists, and a particular workstation is joined to a domain? The problem only occurs if I click "remember credentials". It is not fixed by any amount of working with net use. Usingcmdkey to delete all stored credentials for the host is the only way to get back in, and it affects all non-domain shared folders. Update I'm hoping there are some registry locations I could check that could be misconfigured in some way that might explain why SMB/CIFS stored credentials for non-domain systems seem to be auto-invalidated in this weird way. Knowing how whacko Microsoft Windows domain and security handling is sometimes, this could be some kind of stupid "feature".

• How to share two keyboard on the same laptop, french iso layout and usa ansi layout keyboard with usb?

  I recently buy a "noppoo choc mini" with this specific ANSI US-INTERNATIONAL pc84 layout. This specific keyboard have only 84 key , a 60% (compact tenkeyless) reduced layout My problem is simple, there is no keyboard layout into Ubuntu 12.04 which correspond to this usa normal ansi layout ... so it's the same problem with reduced version and only 84 key .. I search a template of normal ANSI US-INTERNATIONAL for xmodmap/xkb, and after i can try to manually map the other key. I search on google, and i don't find any other user which have same problem, so it's seem i have not the good keywoard to search this information.. Edit 1 : Here you can see there is probably a bug in ubuntu, because the layout for USA with dead key is not correct ! EDIT 3 Ok, after reboot i understand the probleme, i explain. I have one laptop with integrated french keyboard, and i want to use my usb keyboard which use a usa ANSI layout. It seem it's impossible in ubuntu and "dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" to share two different physical layout (ANSI and EU ISO) on the same computer ... EDIT4 Ok, it seems i can switch the physical layout (ISO <- ANSI) with this command in terminal : setxkbmap -layout us setxkbmap -layout us -variant alt-intl an setxkbmap -layout fr It's very complicated qnd it seem ubuntu 12.04 have big problem with keyboard manager ... because all works great with these two commands, without ANY change into the system parameters keyboard !!! Second bug ? The image of the layout for fr is buggy, the layout is not ISO, but i can press on the letter "< " at the left of right shift without any problem ! • 404 Error Hosting WCF Service via IIS 7.5 Shared Content

  We're attempting to host a WCF Service (.NET 3.5 SP1) using Shared Content on IIS 7.5. At the moment it's returning a 404 error. My assumption at this point is that WCF can not be hosted via a UNC path (See workaroundHosting WCF service in IIS6 using UNC). Steps I've taken: - Established a FullTrust to/with the UNC path. - The service works hosting it on a local disk. - A basic HTML page renders without issue from the UNC path. - A ASPX page renders without issue from the UNC path. - Explicitly set "Full Control" permissions to the user running the service. The reason for using Shared Content in IIS 7.5 to host this WCF Service, and several other websites, in a web farm. Using Shared Content avoids the need for file replication between the nodes in the farm. (Note we are also using Shared Configuration to support this environment.)

• Pop-up and font colour based problems in a form which is designed in Share Point.

  I am designing a system in Share Point via Share Point Designer. We have a form in my Share Point site. Users have to fill some fields in the form and send it to the approval committee. We cannot upload anything to the servers. The design is site based. Our problems are: 1- I want to add small (?) icons for the descriptions of that field. When the user click on the (?) icon for "brief description" field a pop-up or another window will be opened and perhaps it will say: Enter a description of the requested thing. Be as specific as possible. 2- I want to change the font colors of the fields in the form. The share point brings them black as default. Such as I want to see the "Brief description:" and "Status:" as purple instead of black. Brief description: ..... Status: ..... 3- I want to add an agreement pop-up to the new form which will be open just after clicking "send" button in the form. The pop up will say: "Are you sure that you read the procedure" . The user has to click "Yes" to continue sending the form. Otherwise It will return to previous screen again. I would be glad if you kindly help me.

• [C# Thread] I'd like access to a share on the network!

  Some Details I am working with VisualWebGUI, so this app is like ASP.NET, and it is deployed on IIS 7 (for testing) For my 'Web Site', Anonymous Authentication is set to a specific user (DomainName\DomainUser). In my web.config, I have impersonation on. This is how I got my app to access the share in the first place. The Problem There is a point in the the app where we use the Thread class, something similar to: Thread myThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(objInstance.PublicMethod)); myThread.Start(); What I have noticed is that I can write to my logs (text file on the share), everywhere throughout my code, except in the thread that I kicked off. I added some debugging output and what I see for users is: The thread that's kicked off: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Everywhere else in my code: DomainName\DomainUser (described in my IIS setup) OK, for some reason the thread gets a different user (NETWORK SERVICE). Fine. But, my share (and the actual log file) was given 'Full Control' to the NETWORK SERVICE user (this share resides on a different server than the one that my app is running). If NETWORK SERVICE has rights to this folder, why do I get access denied? Or is there a way to have the thread I kick off have the same user as the process?

  I'm trying to connect a NFS share to XenCenter. The NFS server is a ZFSGuru distro (uses FreeBSD). The zfs volume was exported like this: /sbin/zfs set sharenfs="on" temppool/share According to "showmount", it's available: showmount -e /temppool/share Everyone However, when I try to connect to it with XenServer (so it can be used as storage for VHD), I get the following error: Internal error:Failure("Storage_access failed with: SR_BACKEND_FAILURE_73: [; NFS mount error[opterr=mount failed with return code 32]; ]") Anyone got an idea? • DFS share Access denied for some time after workstation is booted.

  I have 2 Win server 2008 servers acting as domain controllers and Dns servers doing DFS. All my workstations are windows xp sp3. I have a DFS share drive mapped at login via login script. After the pc is booted I get an access denied message when trying to access the mapped drive. If i go to the file share on one of the servers i can get to it fine. After about 10 minutes i can try to access the mapped drive again and it works fine. I am not sure if it is some delay happening in dfs name resolution or a gpo issue.

  As a precursor, the network setup is one that includes a combination of Novell Netware servers as well as Windows Servers and Linux servers. I've successfully been able to bind my mac to the Windows Domain and can login without any problems. I've been able to mount shares without needing to resupply login credentials to any windows based share. The problem I've found is that when I'm attempting to mount a share from a linux server, it is asking to resupply the login credentials. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem. The linux servers are a combination of SLES 10 and 11 and RHEL 4 and 5. Thanks, Matt

• How to share internet over VPN and inside a virtual machine (Windows)?

  ` My final goal is to have a virtual machine at work in which anything that happen inside (tcp, udp, ping, ...) will use the Internet connection of a computer at home. So, if inside this VM should I open an Internet browser to a site such as "show my IP", my home IP should be printed. I am also looking for a way to debug/develop a software inside this VM, but I would like to tunnel only the connections of this software, not the full graphical interface, this is why a Remote Desktop solution won't fit me. The connection between the both computer should be secured somehow, like in a SSH tunnel. This ultimately should allow me to have a portable VM in which I can connect to whatever networks I have access at home, in a secure way. This is my configuration: At work, I have a LAN-connected desktop computer, with Windows 7 Professional Edition as a host [computer W] On this same computer, I have a Virtual Box machine running Windows XP [computer V] At home, I have a laptop computer, running Windows 7 Home Edition [computer H] This laptop is connected to a Livebox 2 broadband modem by Wifi. What I am trying to do is to sit at work in front of the virtual machine [V], and connect to a webpage as if the request was issued from the laptop [H] at home, and the data should be securely tunneled between the both. But if I am using internet directly inside [W], it should use the normal LAN interface at work. To achieve my goal, I first try using VPN, than SSH tunneling, without success. I first tried to install Teamviewer between [W] and [H]. This is working fine, I can send files, share desktop, etc. Teamviewer has a VPN mode that creates a new VPN network interface with its own IP, both on computer [W] and [H]. This allowed me to connect [H] as a network computer inside [W] and I was able to share files, but not to share Internet. At this point, I tried to use from [W] the Internet as if I was at home. I setup a route (using route add from command line in [W]) in order to instruct each packet going to a given website to pass by the new VPN interface on [W], with the hope it will be forwarded to [H], but the webpage was simply inaccessible. I then tried to setup a Windows VPN connection between [W] and [H], using the Windows 7 VPN feature. [H] was the server and [W] the client. But it failed: I got the "Unable to join a remote PC while trying to VPN" 720 Error when I was setting up the client on [W]. I think the problem is the Livebox 2 that could blocks the packets. But I am not sure of this: 1) with Teamviewer it works fine, 2) Livebox 2 has a configuration page for port mapping that gives the proper configuration to map VPN ports as an example so I guess that it should allow it, 3) I opened the ports 1723 (TCP) and 500 (UDP) according to some forums. Virtual box has a network configuration parameter in which I can use the VPN network interface created by Teamviewer as a bridged connection. This is suppose to work in the sense that all packets issued by the virtual machine [V] is supposed to go directly to [H]. But I had no internet connection inside [V]. Using the NAT mode, [V] has internet. For me this is the feature that I look for: filtering all connections from the virtual box application to the VPN network interface, and the remaining should use the normal LAN interface. Apart from the build-in feature of VBox, I even do not know if it is possible to route the packet from a given application to a given interface. Finally I tried also SSH tunneling, but this is not the solution I looked for. Using an external SSH server (Linux), I was able to create a localhost connection on [W] (or [V]), using something like 'ssh -N -D server[H]' in order to allow a web browser located in [W] to connect to any website using the SOCKS 5 proxy created locally (SOCKS is a build-in feature of SSH). But repeating the same operation on windows, using a windows SSH server inside [W] (I tried freeSSHd), it failed: SFTP worked, but not the SOCKS tunneling, it was like the browser in [H] did not find internet. Finally only Teamviewer looked able to create a VPN between [W] and [H], but I am not able to use it, as I want, I mean using the Internet connection of [H] sitting in front of [W]. I also tried to bridge the VPN interface and the wifi interface inside [H], but it blocked my laptop, and I tried also the Internet Connection Sharing, trying to share on [H] the wifi connection over the VPN interface. This fails also, but it seems because Teamviewer actually use the wifi interface to be able to provide the VPN link, so I guess I am creating a recursive loop. I do not know what to try next... Since, I can upgrade RAM and not graphics card, Does upgrading RAM also cause graphics memory to increase. To clear the point: My specs are given below: Laptop : Lenovo 3000 Y410. (bought in 2008 October) RAM: 1 GB (DDR2) External Graphics (Dedicated): N/A Internal Graphics (Shared): 256 MB Graphics Chipset: Intel GMA X3100 My Question is: If I increase my RAM to 3 GB, will it increase graphics cards share of the Memory. In other word, If graphics card shares 256 MB in 1GB RAM, will it share more, when I upgrade the RAM into 2GB or more ? • Why can't I copy files from a mac to a samba share?

  I have a share set up on my ubuntu 10.04 box, and the mac can see it, connect to it, and sort of write to it. When I try to copy a whole tree to the share, I get an error saying "The operation cannot be completed because you don't have access to some of the items". If I zip the directory, and copy that over, it succeeds. Any explanation? My smb.conf: [global] workgroup = wg netbios name = ubuntu security = user [Wife Debris] path = /home/wife/wifedebris read only = no guest ok = no force user = wife force group = wife

• How do I securely share / allow access to a drive?

  To simplify backing up a laptop (Windows Vista), I'm planning on sharing its C: drive (with password protection) and using that to back it up from another computer. What are the security implications of this? If I share C: with a reasonable password, how big is the risk of compromise if the system is e.g. inadvertently used on a public WLAN or similar? Background: I'm planning to use [Areca Backup][1] to back up two systems (Windows XP and Vista). My current plan is to install Areca on the XP box, and share the Vista system's C: as a shared folder, so the XP system can read it. Then I can set up the drive as a network drive and have Areca read it like a local drive. Of course, if you can think of a more elegant way of doing this, I'm open to suggestions.

  I do have my work laptop at home and I want to share an USB printer in order to be able to print to it from my MacBook. Currently Windows 7 is refusing to share the printer because the computer is part of a domain and it tells me that I need to join a homegroup in order to be able to do that. Also it tells me that he cannot create this homegroup and this group has to be create by another Windows 7 computer from my network. As you can imagine I do have only one Windows computer on my home network. How can I solve this problem?

• How can I clear the "authentication cache" in Windows 7 to a password protected samba share?

  I have a Linux samba server and have explicitly listed users that can access the folder. I have successfully congfigured Samba to require a username and password when accessing the share from windows (using the smbpasswd, etc.). But now I want to force clear the auth cache on the windows machine. Such as when I go to a colleague's computer, I use my account to access a file in the protected share, but then before I leave his computer, i'll want to make sure the authorization cache is cleared so he cannot access that folder with my credentials. I found the command to use in the windows command prompt on google a couple of weeks ago but silly me I didn't save it... Hope someone can help, thanks! Oh, Samba is configured as a workgroup and not a domain (if that helps) - so windows users do NOT log into a domain on start up. thanks!

• Is there a way to share a scanner with an Airport Extreme?

  I've got an Airport Extreme as my home network's router. (Sidebar: I love it.) The printer sharing is pretty phenomenal - I've got my printer hooked up to the base station and all the machines in the house can print to it just fine. However, I have one of those combined scanner/printers, and nothing on the lan seems to be able to see the scanner. Is there a way to get the Airport Extreme / Bonjour to also share the scanner half of the device? For the record, this is an all Windows LAN, so I'm using Bonjour for Windows to get the print sharing to work. Also, I'm hoping to not add a whole stack of extra software to the ecosystem - only one machine in the house needs the scanner, so I can just plug the printer back into that machine and share the printer that way. Still, the Airport and Bonjour seem fancy enough that this seems like it should be doable.

• How can I enable true anonymous/everyone access to a Window share?

  I recently discovered that turning off "password protected sharing" in Windows 7 requires having the guest account enabled, named as such, and with a blank password. While Windows seems to automatically attempt to use guest when connecting, Ubuntu does not, requiring anyone trying to access my share to know to use guest and a blank password. I really don't want to have the guest account enabled, either. So is there a way to allow true anonymous access to a Windows share that doesn't require credentials? Or a way to allow any credentials at all?

• Linux virtual disk stripping or multi-path samba share?

  I am trying to build a file storage box for media. It needs to span two or more directories or partitions as one share. There are a few solutions but reasons why I want to avoid them, among these are: Using LVM2 for stripping. I don't really have the resources to back up everything on the volumes incase one HDD goes south. I would end up loosing everything. Maybe there is a better option for this to prevent data loss with hot swappable drives or some kind of raid. Using symbolic links in the share. This will get tedious every time a new sub-directory is added. Is there some kind of software raid I can use to merge two directories virtually? I am aware of the issue where /dev/hda1/media/file.1 and /dev/hdb1/media/file.1 both exist. But I'm sure there are some creative solutions for this.
