• Index on column with only 2 distinct values

  I am wondering about the performance of this index: I have an "Invalid" varchar(1) column that has 2 values: NULL or 'Y' I have an index on (invalid), as well as (invalid, last_validated) Last_validated is a datetime (this is used for a unrelated SELECT query) I am flagging a small amount of items (1-5%) of rows in the table with this as 'to be deleted'. This is so when i DELETE FROM items WHERE invalid='Y' it does not perform a full table scan for the invalid items. A problem seems to be, the actual DELETE is quite slow now, possibly because all the indexes are being removed as they are deleted. Would a bitmap index provide better performance for this? or perhaps no index at all?

  This is what I thought would be a simple select clause, however the following is giving me grief! I am using SQL Server 2008. Basically I want to compare two integer values and return the boolean result in the select clause. Here is a simple example: DECLARE @A INT DECLARE @B INT SET @A = 1 SET @B = 2 SELECT @A = @B Currently the only output is "Command(s) completed successfully." Where I reasonably believe it is assigning @A to @B. I thought this would be simple but have not been able to achieve this. Any help would be great! Thanks

• Swap unique indexed column values in database.

  I have a database table and one of the fields (not primary key) is having unique index on it. Now I want to swap values under this column for two rows. How could this be done? Two hack I know are: Delete both rows and re-insert them Update rows with some other value and swap and then update to actual value. But I don't want to go for these as they do not seem to be the appropriate solution to the problem. Could anyone help me out?

  I have a table posts with the column published, which is either 0 (unpublished) or 1 (published). Say I want to make all the published posts into unpublished posts and all the unpublished posts into published posts. I know that running UPDATE posts SET published = 1 WHERE published = 0; UPDATE posts SET published = 0 WHERE published = 1; will end up turning all my posts into published posts. How can I run these queries in the mysql command line so that it truly "reverse" the values, as opposed to the mistake outlined above? Thanks

  sql2005 This is my simplified example: (in reality there are 40+ tables in here, I only showed 2) I got a table called tb_modules, with 3 columns (id, description, tablename as varchar): 1, UserType, tb_usertype 2, Religion, tb_religion (Last column is actually the name of a different table) I got an other table that looks like this: tb_value (columns:id, tb_modules_ID, usertype_OR_religion_ID) values: 1111, 1, 45 1112, 1, 55 1113, 2, 123 1114, 2, 234 so, I mean 45, 55, 123, 234 are usertype OR religion ID's (45, 55 usertype, 123, 234 religion ID`s) Don't judge, I didn't design the database Question How can I make a select, showing * from tb_value, plus one column That one column would be TITLE from the tb_usertype or RELIGIONNAME from the tb_religion table I would like to make a general thing. Was thinking initially about maybe a SQL function that returns a string, but I think I would need dynamic SQL, which is not ok in a function. Anyone a better idea ?

Now I tried the same thing using session i.e. Session["MemberId"] = this.TxtEnterMemberId.Text; if (MemberSex.Equals("M")) Response.Redirect("PatientDetailsMale.aspx",false ); Page_load event of the other page if (Session["MemberId"] != null) mid = Session["MemberId"].ToString(); IT Works..Could u guys explain the behaviour please?   Hi guys, I have to implement map values in my Grails app. I have a class that can contain 0..N OsmTags, and the key is unique. In Java I would model this with a Map in each object, but I don't know how to map classes in Grails. So I defined this class: class OsmTag { /** OSM tag name, e.g. natural */ String key /** OSM tag value, e.g. park */ String value static constraints = { key blank:false, size:2..80,matches:/[\S]+/, unique:false value blank:false, size:1..250,matches:/[\S]+/, unique:false } } That works ok, but it's actually quite ugly because the tag key is not unique.   Hi, I have a stored procedure that returns a result with 250!!! columns. But I only need 3 out of the 250. I want to call the SP and put only the 3 column values in a temp table. I don't want to define a temp table with 250 columns! This is how I would like to do it, but this doesn't work of course: create #myTempTable (id int, value1 int, value2 int) insert into #myTempTable exec myBigFatStoredProc Can it be done anyhow?   I'm new to Scala and Lift, coming from a slightly odd background in PLT Scheme. I've done a quick search on this topic and found lots of questions but no answers. I'm probably looking in the wrong place. I've been working my way through tutorials on using Mapper to create database-backed objects, and I've hit a stumbling block: what types should be used to stored optional attribute values. For example, a simple ToDo object might comprise a title and an optional deadline (e.g. http://rememberthemilk.com). The former would be a MappedString, but the latter could not be a MappedDateTime since the type constraints on the field require, say, defaultValue to return a Date (rather than a Date or null/false/???). Is an underlying NULL handled by the MappedField subclasses? Or are there optional equivalents to things like MappedInt, MappedString, MappedDateTime that allow the value to be NULL in the database? Or am I approaching this in the wrong way?

  I've been playing around with the pluto-test-framework today, and I'd like to get some existing functions into a test harness with it. I have lots of functions with this type of specification. FUNCTION DO_SOME_STUFF (pOldSchedule IN SCHEDULE_OBJ, pNewSchedule OUT SCHEDULE_OBJ, pLoggerContext IN OUT LOGGER_CONTEXT_OBJ) RETURN NUMBER; It takes pOldSchedule, does some stuff to it, and then returns pNewSchedule. The logger_context just does logging. As part of a test, I'd like to be able to compare the values in each of the columns of the type, without having to write individual IF statements. It'll need to return boolean to signify whether or not pOldSchedule and pNewSchedule match. Any ideas?

  I've been using the following approach to create components and return values from Swing to/from outside the EDT. For instance, the following method could be an extension to JFrame, to create a JPanel and add it to the parent JFrame: public JPanel threadSafeAddPanel() { final JPanel[] jPanel = new JPanel[1]; try { EventQueue.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { public void run() { jPanel[0] = new JPanel(); add(jPanel[0]); } }); } catch (InterruptedException ex) { } catch (InvocationTargetException ex) { } return jPanel[0]; } The local 1-length array is used to transfer the "result" from inside the Runnable, which is invoked in the EDT. Well, it looks "a bit" hacky, and so my questions: Does this make sense? Is anybody else doing something like this? Is the 1-length array a good way of transferring the result? Is there an easier way to do this?

Specifically what encoding do I use?   I have a table with a list of transactions (invoices and credits) and I need to get a list of all the rows where the invoices and credits don't match up. eg user product value bill ThingA 200 jim ThingA -200 sue ThingB 100 liz ThingC 50 I only want to see the third and fourth rows, as the values of the others match off. I can do this if I select product, sum(value) ... group by product having sum(value) < 0 which works well, but I want to return the user name as well. As soon as I add the user to the select, I need to group by it as well, which messes it up as the amounts don't match up by user AND product. Any ideas ? I am using MS SQL 2000... Cheers

Column *customer_number* is pk. I'm trying to find duplicate values and some differences between them. Please, help me to find all rows that have same 1) field1, field2, field3, field4 2) only 3 columns are equal and one of them isn't (except rows from list 1) 3) only 2 columns equal and two of them aren't (except rows from list 1 and list 2) In the end, I'll have 3 tables with this results and additional groupId, which will be same for a group of similars (For example, for 3 column equals, rows that have 3 same columns equal will be a seperate group) Thank you.
