I now want to make V2 the default website. I could point the website to that V2 directory however I have other folders under the current root website that I need to keep. How can I transfer V2 to the root of my website? Is it just a case of copying all the files?

    I have someone i'm making a website for with a domain name and current website hosted at fasthosts. I've built them a website hosted at a different host, unlimitedwebhosting. The website i've made them is in a directory like this. www.mysite.com/dev/0002 So fasthosts: Is the registrar for the domain name, it also has all of the email addresses and their current site. unlimitedwebhosting: Has the new site in a sub directory, like .com/dev/0002 Is it possible to keep the domain name and email addresses all hosted at fasthosts and to have the new website hosted in my unlimitedwebhosting account and to somehow have the domain point to the new website?

  • MVC: Nested Views, and Controllers (for a website)

    I'm doing a PHP website using the MVC pattern. I am not using a framework as the site is fairly simple and I feel that this will give me a good opportunity to learn about the pattern directly. I have a couple questions. Question 1: How should I organize my views? I'm thinking of having a Page view which will have the header and footer, and which will allow for a Content view to be nested between them. Question 2: If I have 5 Content pages, should I make 5 different views that can be used as the content that is nested within the Page view? Or, should I make them all extend an abstract view called AbstractContent? Question 3: What about controllers? I think there should be one main controller at least. But then where does the request go from there? To another controller? Or should I just call the Page view and leave it at that? I thought that controllers were supposed to handle input, possibly modify a model, and select a view. But what if one of the views nested within the view that a controller calls requires additional input to be parsed? Question 4: Are controllers allowed to pass parameters into the view? Or should the controller simply modify the model, which will then affect the view? Or is the model only for DB access and other such things?

But i need to learn all of them then its better if can start learning python. I have 5 months to finish webiste.     I would like to use Google Website Optimizer (GWO)'s multivariate tests to test some different versions of a web page. I can change from version to version just by varying some class tags on a div, i.e. the different versions are of this form: <div id="testing" class="foo1 bar1">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo1 bar2">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo2 bar1">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo2 bar2">content</div> In the ideal, I would be able to use GWO section code in place of each class, and google would just swap in the appropriate tags (foo1 or foo2, bar1 or bar2). However, naively doing this results in horribly malformed code because I would be trying to put <script> tags inside the div's class attribute: <div id="testing" class=" <script>utmx_section("foo-class")</script>foo1</noscript> <script>utmx_section("bar-class")</script>bar1</noscript> "> content </div> And indeed, the browser chokes all over it. My current best approach is just to use a different div for each variable in the test, as follows: <script>utmx_section("foo-class-div")</script> <div class="foo1"> </noscript> <script>utmx_section("bar-class-div")</script> <div class="bar1"> </noscript> content </div> </div> So testing multiple variables requires layer of div-nesting per variable, and it all seems rather awkward. Is there a better approach that I could use in which I just vary the classes on a single div?

    I am trying here to do a manual translation for the application I am working with. (There is already a working LocalizationModule but it's working dodgy, so I can't use <asp:Localize /> tags. Normally with ResourceManager you are supposed to be using it as Namespace.Folder.Resourcename (in an application). Currently I am translating an existing asp.net "website" (not web application so no namespace here....). The resources are located into a folder name "Locales/resources" which contains "fr-ca.resx" and "en-us.resx".   • Five development tools I can't live without

    When applying to join Geeks with Blogs I had to specify the development tools I use every day. That got me thinking, it's taken a long time to whittle my tools of choice down to the selection I use, so it might be worth sharing. Before I begin, I appreciate we all have our preferred development tools, but these are the ones that work for me. Microsoft Visual Studio Microsoft Visual Studio has been my development tool of choice for more years than I care to remember. I first used this when it was Visual C++ 1.5 (hats off to those who started on 1.0) and by 2.2 it had everything I needed from a C++ IDE. Versions 4 and 5 followed and if I had to guess I would expect more Windows applications are written in VC++ 6 and VB6 than any other language. Then came the not so great versions Visual Studio .Net 2002 (7.0) and 2003 (7.1). If I'm honest I was still using v6. 2005 was better and 2008 was simply brilliant. Everything worked, the compiler was super fast and I was happy again...then came 2010...oh dear. 2010 is a big step backwards for me. It's not encouraging for my upcoming WPF exploits that 2010 is fronted in WPF technology, with the forever growing Find/Replace dialog, the issues with C++ intellisense, and the buggy debugger. That said it is still my tool of choice but I hope they sort the issue in SP1. I've tried other IDEs like Visual Age and Eclipse, but for me Visual Studio is the best. A really great tool. Liquid XML Studio XML development is a tricky business. The W3C standards are often difficult to get to the bottom of so it's great to have a graphical tool to help. I first used Liquid Technologies 5 or 6 years back when I needed to process XML data in C++. Their excellent XML Data Binding tool has an easy to use Wizard UI (as compared to Castor or JAXB command line tools) and allows you to generate code from an XML Schema. So instead of having to deal with untyped nodes like with a DOM parser, instead you get an Object Model providing a custom API in C++, C#, VB etc. More recently they developed a graphical XML IDE with XML Editor, XSLT, XQuery debugger and other XML tools. So now I can develop an XML Schema graphically, click a button to generate a Sample XML document, and click another button to run the Wizard to generate code including a Sample Application that will then load my Sample XML document into the generated object model. This is a very cool toolset. Note: XML Data Binding is nothing to do with WPF Data Binding, but I hope to cover both in more detail another time. .Net Reflector Note: I've just noticed that starting form the end of February 2011 this will no longer be a free tool !! .Net Reflector turns .Net byte code back into C# source code. But how can it work this magic? Well the clue is in the name, it uses reflection to inspect a compiled .Net assembly. The assembly is compiled to byte code, it doesn't get compiled to native machine code until its needed using a just-in-time (JIT) compiler. The byte code still has all of the information needed to see classes, variables. methods and properties, so reflector gathers this information and puts it in a handy tree. I have used .Net Reflector for years in order to understand what the .Net Framework is doing as it sometimes has undocumented, quirky features. This really has been invaluable in certain instances and I cannot praise enough kudos on the original developer Lutz Roeder. Smart Assembly In order to stop nosy geeks looking at our code using a tool like .Net Reflector, we need to obfuscate (mess up) the byte code. Smart Assembly is a tool that does this. Again I have used this for a long time. It is very quick and easy to use. Another excellent tool. Coincidentally, .Net Reflector and Smart Assembly are now both owned by Red Gate. Again kudos goes to the original developer Jean-Sebastien Lange. TortoiseSVN SVN (Apache Subversion) is a Source Control System developed as an open source project. TortoiseSVN is a graphical UI wrapper over SVN that hooks into Windows Explorer to enable files to be Updated, Committed, Merged etc. from the right click menu. This is an essential tool for keeping my hard work safe! Many years ago I used Microsoft Source Safe and I disliked CVS type systems. But TortoiseSVN is simply the best source control tool I have ever used. --- So there you have it, my top 5 development tools that I use (nearly) every day and have helped to make my working life a little easier. I'm sure there are other great tools that I wish I used but have never heard of, but if you have not used any of the above, I would suggest you check them out as they are all very, very cool products. #

  • Google page events monitoring and analysis

    I have read the Google page event documentation, but I am not sure I understand it correctly. I am new to Google analytics, and I have two questions: Once I have google analytics enabled for my site (i.e. I have inserted the tracking code in my pages etc), do I need to set anything else up (at the Google end - i.e. in my Google analytics account) It is not clear to me how the event data particularly, relating to how the data can be aggregated and analyzed. For instance, if I want to track an event under category category for click action action, I will use the following code snippet: <a href="some-uri.htm" onclick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'category', 'action', 'label']);">Do Something</a> For the sake of simplicity, lets say I am interested in monitoring click events in my header and footer, and I want to find which pages the header and or footer is clicked most often. How would I set things up so that I can analyze the header/footer clicks aggregated at the page level?

  • Pair programming tools that are not remote

    I am currently in a job where we practice serious pair programming on windows machines. We both have a set of keyboards, mice, and we have two monitors, which works well for switching who's the driver really easy, but there are some points in the session that I would like to start writing tests at the same time that my pair is writing implementation. I am wondering if there is any program that would allow me to have effectively two cursors and keyboard focuses on the same computer. If they don't exist then I am willing to experiment with my own solution, but I would like input as to how to best accomplish this. I am most familiar with .Net 3.5 technologies, but I also know Java and am willing to learn C++ to solve this problem. If I was creating the solution myself I would go down the road of being able to grab the input of one hardware device (i.e. a specific mouse that's installed) and prevent Windows from moving the pointer, and instead move my own programs pointer independently.

    Let's say I have a MyClass class, with various methods, and let's say that method MyClass.A() calls methods MyClass.B() which calls MyClass.C(). Method MyClass.A() also calls MyClass.D() which also calls MyClass.C() and so on :) Is there any tool to visualize this as a diagram? UPD. I see NDepend can do what I need but it costs too much when I just need to build methods dependency graph and trial limitations are too big (I can't zoom the graph and I can't see anything on a small resulted graph without being able to zoom). So, I'm still looking for alternatives - it should be free or not expensive tool.

    I have all my off-site banner ads correctly campaign tracked/tagged but I want to know what metrics I should be looking at in the GA for the closest comparison to the ad servers clicks. I am pretty sure it wouldn't be Visits but I also see there is PageViews and UniquePageViews. My GA data is coming in way off from what the ad server manager people are telling my clicks are for said banners on their site. My other question is what type of percentage are other people seeing there data being off?

We can share our screens so we can help with code writing. And we can use the text chat to copy-paste code between each other. We also use Subversion for version control.     I am looking for an easy way to re-send POST request to the server within the browser mainly for debug purposes. Say you have a XHR request which contains POST parameters that is to be send to the server. After having changed the script on the server side, you would like to resent the very same request for analyzing the output. What tool could help? I guess it is a browser's extension. I already tried extension Tamper Data for Firefox which does the job as you can "Replay in browser". But for my taste, it is not enough straight forward, as there are 3 - 4 clicks to get the result of the request. Unfortunately, curl would not be suitable for my needs as my application has a session's cookie.

  • Mscorcfg.msc .net Configuration Tools problem

    I'm trying to run Microsoft's .NET Framework Configuration Tool (Mscorcfg.msc). I have Visual Studio 2008 installed. I also have the following installed on my PC: Microsoft .Net Framework v1.0.3705 Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 Microsoft .Net Framework v4.0.30319 I'm not sure why, but I can't start "Mscorcfg.msc" the usual way (as suggested in the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2bc0cxhc(VS.80).aspx and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2bc0cxhc.aspx URL). I looked for "Mscorcfg.msc" on my PC and found only 1 occurence (in the C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder). When I double-click on the .msc file in Windows Explorer, I get the "MMC could not create the snap-in." message. What should I do ? Thanks

  • Google Web Optimizer -- How long until winning combination?

    I've had an A/B Test running in Google Web Optimizer for six weeks now, and there's still no end in sight. Google is still saying: "We have not gathered enough data yet to show any significant results. When we collect more data we should be able to show you a winning combination." Is there any way of telling how close Google is to making up its mind? (Does anyone know what algorithm does it use to decide if there's been any "high confidence winners"?) According to the Google help documentation: Sometimes we simply need more data to be able to reach a level of high confidence. A tested combination typically needs around 200 conversions for us to judge its performance with certainty. But all of our conversions have over 200 conversations at the moment: 230 / 4061 (Original) 223 / 3937 (Variation 1) 205 / 3984 (Variation 2) 205 / 4007 (Variation 3) How much longer is it going to have to run?? Thanks for any help.
