    I would like to save two of my saved PowerStrip display profiles. Earlier I set 720x540 resolution and some other settings (frequency, etc.) to another display device usually used in extended mode, which is now NOT connected: But when I go to "Advanced timing options", I see some different settings. I thought I could copy settings with the copy icon , but this way I would copy the wrong ones, not the predefined ones (with the 720x540 resolution): What is the best method to "export" these settings before formatting the hard drive?

    I would like to use all my monitors for the remote session (an option in RDC dialogue) if I connect (from Windows 7) to the one server with Windows 2008 R2 it works OK (I have remote connection on my all monitors) when do I connect to the another server with Windows 7 it just wound not use all my monitors, but just one (full screen mode). What do I missing here? Some setting on the Windows 7 server?

    I have a Dell Precision M4500, Intel Core i5 CPU, running Linux (Ubuntu Lucid), and would like to keep an eye on CPU temperature. I've tried lm-sensors: sensors-detect didn't find any sensors; following its hint ("This is relatively common on laptops, where thermal management is handled by ACPI rather than the OS.") I tried acpi -V but got nothing thermal. The Gnome panel applet "Hardware Sensors Monitor" reports on GPU temperature but nothing else. What should I be trying next?

    Is there any app or log that says when my MacBook Pro's hard drive last went into sleep mode? I ask because each night when I close the MBP's lid without being plugged into a power source, the power light goes into its snooze rhythm but the battery is half-drained by the next morning. It certainly looks like it is asleep, but the power drain seems to indicate otherwise.

    Summary: I want to be able to monitor the computers on my network, but don't need it to be automated. We're too small to purchase anything like MOM, but too big to do anything manually (~100 machines in two locations). I just keep running into issues, and was wondering if there's a master list of Group Policy settings I can distribute to my environment to get Remote Powershell working. Environment: Our AD network is pretty mixed. The end users have XP SP3, Win 7, and Win 7 x64. The servers include Win2k3 SP2, Win2k8, Win2k8 x64, Win2k8 R2, and Win2k8 R2 x64. Details: I'm trying to get it to work with Remote Powershell, but I run into errors like the following: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. Default authentication may be used with an IP address under the following conditions: the transport is HTTPS or the destination is in the TrustedHosts list, and explicit credentials are provided. Use winrm.cmd to configure TrustedHosts. Note that computers in the TrustedHosts list might not be authenticated. For more information on how to set TrustedHosts run the following command: winrm help config. They're giving me hard time because I'm using the same physical PC. Using pcattcp... But why does it say 0.0.0.0? Is it passing through only one of the network adapters? I want 10.1.1.1 to be the server (receiver) and 10.1.1.2 to be the client (transmitter). These are the IP addresses assigned manually to each network adapter. How do I specify these addresses in TTCP? There is also the IPERF tool which has the -B option. Unfortunately I've been only able to use this option to bind the server to the 10.1.1.1 address. I was unable to bind the client to the 10.1.1.2 address. I might be doing it wrong. Can the -B option be used for both the server as well as the client side? What does the syntax look like for the client?

  • Optical SPDIF audio from motherboard not working with receiver

    Hi, I hope someone can help; I can't get my SPDIF optical out working through my receiver and all the responses I can see on the web assume you have a sound card, while I settled for the (seemingly high end) sound on my motherboard (Asus P7P55D-E PRO), which appears to limit some of my options. My set-up is a "new out of the box" one and is: *Windows 7 PC (using PowerDVD10 for DVDs/Blurays and Windows media player for music) *Asus P7P55D-E PRO motherboard - has 8-channel audio TRS jacks and SPDIF optical and coaxial out *An old Yamaha receiver, whose only multi-channel input options are optical in and 6 channel RCA in. However, it still can handle DTS and DD *Boston Acoustic Soundware XS 5.1 speakers I've currently got the SPDIF optical out from the motherboard connected to the in on my receiver, have SPDIF enabled in the sound menu and the light is glowing red down the fibre. But I'm getting no sound at all. What I want is to be able to play DVDs/BluRays in 5.1 but also to be able to play music in multi-channel mode (even though I know this will be "fake" multichannel; it's more about where I sit in the room and my requirement to use the sub because the Boston is a satellite/sub set-up) My questions are: *Will optical work at all for multi-channel? THe latest posts I can see suggest it does but some people seem to say optical only outputs stereo. Whom to believe? *Even if it does work, I've read that I have to disable AC-3 decoding, or make various other changes, which don't seem to be possible without the menu options that a sound-card brings. Is the motherboard-only option just too inflexible? *Although my SPDIF device is enabled in the sound menu, it insists under "Jack information" that it is a "rear panel RCA jack", when of course it is not (both TOSLINK and rCA jacks do exist). Has the PC just forgotten that it has an optical? *I think I could relatively easily connect the 8-channel 3.5mm TRS jacks to my receiver 6-ch input jacks by way of TRS/RCA cables, but would that not stop me from being able to play music from media-player in multi-channel mode, as I'm not sure the motherboard can cope *Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a sound-card? And if so, how can I be sure the one I get doesn't have the same problem? Any thoughts gratefully received, Cheers, simon

  • How to remove iso 9660 from USB?

    I have somehow managed to write an iso 9660 image onto my USB drive, which makes all my computer think that the device is actually a CD. I have tried various methods of removing this partition, but nothing seems to work. I have tried fdisk, which says $ fdisk -l /dev/sdb Cannot open /dev/sdb parted crashes when I try to use it on this device. I have even tried $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb but it just hangs with no output (either on screen or on disk). However, when I plug the USB in, it does mount, and I can view (but not edit) the files on it. edit: now the result is $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb dd: opening `/dev/sdb': Read-only file system I have also tried re-formatting it on Windows, but it gets to the end of the format process and then says "Couldn't format the drive". How can I remove this partition and get my whole USB drive back to normal again? EDIT 1: Trying a simple mkfs doesn't work: $ sudo mkfs -t vfat /dev/sdb mkfs.vfat 3.0.0 (28 Sep 2008) mkfs.vfat: Will not try to make filesystem on full-disk device '/dev/sdb' (use -I if wanted) I can't do mkfs on /dev/sdb1 because there is no such partition, as shown:$ ls /dev | grep sdb sdb EDIT 2: This is the information posted by dmesg when I plug the device in:$ dmesg . .   • CentOS 5.7 keeps rebooting after fresh installation

    I have just installed CentOS 5.7 x86_64 on a new computer. The installation went on without any issues. But, after it finnished, the machine started to show an awkward behaviour: it restarts every time it tries to boot. It happens after all the services have been started. The screen just goes black and it shows an error message from the monitor: Input not supported. And then it reboots. I took a look at the logs, but I couldn't manage to find anything. Any help? Update Before doing the hardware diagnosis, as pointed out, I decided to make some tests. First, I changed the runlevel to 3, adding the 3 parameter at the end of the kernel command. Then, after logging in in text mode, I checked the xorg.conf file out for some problems regarding the screen resolution. There was nothing unexpected set. Well, if there had to be a problem with it, I couldn't start the X server at the command line, right? So, I typed startx and Gnome started! So, probably, it's not an issue with the screen resolution, I suppose. Then I selected the Log Out root... Gnome menu option and something odd happened: the screen went black, the Input not supported monitor error message was displayed and the system rebooted. Yes, the same problem I was having while trying to boot! After that, I decided to try yet another test: I removed the rhgb quiet parameters from the kernel command to see if some error would show up. Well, to my surprise, the boot went on without problems! The Gnome login screen showed up, I logged in and the session started. But then I selected the Shut Down... menu option and guess what? Same problem: black screen, same monitor error and the system rebooted. Yes, it rebooted, it did not shut down. I repeated both of the tests and the behaviours were the same. I really don't know what's going on. It seems to be an issue regarding the changing of the screen mode or something like that. Any ideas? Could this be a hardware problem? Or does it seem to be something regarding the system configuration?

  • Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't unlock PC when VMPlayer is on

    My desktop XP OS gets locked after I leave for x minutes. I have VMPlayer occupying full screen mode. I think the keyboard is redirected to VMWare. I press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and outer-machine XP is not unlocking. I think maybe keyboard is going to VMWare, because this seems to only happen when I have VMWare running. How do I unlock XP? Is there some magic key sequence?

    I wish to play all of the games that I have on Windows 7 by default (chess, freecell, minesweeper, etc) on my Windows 8 machine. I tried to just copy over the relevant .exe files, but when I run them (even in Windows 7 compatibility mode) nothing happens (no errors, no running process, nothing). How can I get my games working? Note: I tried the Into Windows Guide: How To Play Windows 7 Games In Windows 8 and after I downloaded the patch, it still did not work.

But after running Windows Update(which finds drivers for the hardware on my laptop), I only had to install a few (the ones with Unidentified Device) I'm wondering if this is good enough? or would I skip some important drivers like Chipset Thermo management etc etc that could potentially cause harm to my laptop?

    When I run wireshark on a wired network it works fine and reports all of the packets. When I run it on a wireless network though I only see my own traffic. The wireless card I have is supposed to support packet capture and go into premiscous mode, but I don't see any other system traffic. What is wrong?

    Upgraded to Windows 7 and lost the ability to print to my old but still perfect Brother HL-1440 laser printer. I cannot run in XP compatibility mode with my version of Windows (Home Professional). Is there anything that can be done to get printing to work? I just want to print via USB but there is no Windows 7 driver.
