  • Is it possible to expose data from Oracle using OData?

    From my personal research, it appears that OData implementations depend extensively on MS Entity framework. It would seem possible to implement the OData producer protocol using an open ORM like NHibernate in C# or Hibernate in Java. In the best of all worlds, it would be cool to expose data using OData protocol from Oracle. I am open to other open solutions like Java, JRuby, etc. Thanks in advance for your time.

  • Boosting my GA with Neural Networks and/or Reinforcement Learning

    As I have mentioned in previous questions I am writing a maze solving application to help me learn about more theoretical CS subjects, after some trouble I've got a Genetic Algorithm working that can evolve a set of rules (handled by boolean values) in order to find a good solution through a maze. That being said, the GA alone is okay, but I'd like to beef it up with a Neural Network, even though I have no real working knowledge of Neural Networks (no formal theoretical CS education). After doing a bit of reading on the subject I found that a Neural Network could be used to train a genome in order to improve results. Let's say I have a genome (group of genes), such as 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 1 1 0 0... How could I use a Neural Network (I'm assuming MLP?) to train and improve my genome? In addition to this as I know nothing about Neural Networks I've been looking into implementing some form of Reinforcement Learning, using my maze matrix (2 dimensional array), although I'm a bit stuck on what the following algorithm wants from me: (from http://people.revoledu.com/kardi/tutorial/ReinforcementLearning/Q-Learning-Algorithm.htm) 1. Set parameter , and environment reward matrix R 2. Initialize matrix Q as zero matrix 3. For each episode: * Select random initial state * Do while not reach goal state o Select one among all possible actions for the current state o Using this possible action, consider to go to the next state o Get maximum Q value of this next state based on all possible actions o Compute o Set the next state as the current state End Do End For The big problem for me is implementing a reward matrix R and what a Q matrix exactly is, and getting the Q value. I use a multi-dimensional array for my maze and enum states for every move. How would this be used in a Q-Learning algorithm? If someone could help out by explaining what I would need to do to implement the following, preferably in Java although C# would be nice too, possibly with some source code examples it'd be appreciated.

    I have a large VB program that connects to Oracle database. strCn = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};" & _ "SERVER=PSPROD;" Set Cn = New ADODB.Connection Cn.ConnectionString = strCn Cn.CursorLocation = adUseNone Cn.Open There are many users of my program so I have a table that contains each user's login name and their access rights to the various tables. I create a recordset of all users when the program is started and then select USERNAME and GRANTED_ROLE from the record set where USERNAME and PASSWORD are found. I use a "Set role 'GRANTED_ROLE' identified by 'password'" statment and Cn.Execute statement to set up the user's access rights. This is all done in a Module. On a form, I want to call a Stored Procedure that will SELECT, INSERT and UPDATE information into another schema's tables.     I was writing some program that uses the WM_CONCAT function. When I run this query: SELECT WM_CONCAT(DISTINCT employee_id) FROM employee WHERE ROWNUM < 20; It works fine. When I try to compile the relatively same query in a package function or procedure, it produces this error: PL/SQL: ORA-30482: DISTINCT option not allowed for this function FUNCTION fetch_raw_data_by_range RETURN VARCHAR2 IS v_some_string VARCHAR2(32000); BEGIN SELECT WM_CONCAT(DISTINCT employee_id) INTO v_some_string FROM employee WHERE ROWNUM < 20; RETURN v_some_string; END; I realize WM_CONCAT is not officially supported, but can someone explain why it would work as a stand alone query with DISTINCT, but not compile in a package?

    I'm new to NHibernate. My first attempt is to configure and establish connection to Oracle 11.1g using ODP. For this test, I use a test fixture, but I get the following error: Inner exception: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Outer exception: Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.OracleDataClientDriver.     Converting from usind Micorsofts Syste.Data.OracleClient to what I believe is called Oracles ODT (Oracle.DataAccess 10.2.0.100). When I try and send a date I get this error "ORA-1858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".   • "Automatically Connect" option for Mobile Broadband crashes GNOME Shell, how to remove network configurations?

    I'm using Fedora 15, in GNOME Shell, my mobile broadband connection was working absolutely fine, until I set the connection type to Connect Automatically using nm-connection-manager. Now, when I start the Fedora, the Top panel network icon shows red exclamation symbol and when I click it, instead of showing me available networks' list, it shows only "Network Settings", and when I open it, it shows GNOME 3's new Network Manager app, and it pops out the dialog saying that, "Current network settings service is incompatible with this version". And after a few seconds of log in, the shell freezes and all I can do is log out using Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace. I'm facing this problem since I opened old network manager app using nm-connection-manager in the run dialog, and editing my connection to connect automatically. After logging in to the shell I somehow managed to delete that connection from the same app and created a new one, but the problem still exists. How can I delete all network preferences (by deleting its configuration files from my home directory or something like that) and reset the GNOME 3's network manager to its default state?

Some initial testing is showing Direct Connect in 64bit dotConnect running 30% slower at times than our original ODP.net/OCI 32 bit solution. Trying to determine if that's normal or if something may be wrong in my testing approach. Thanks!

    I was trying to recompile PL/SQL package and no avail. because something obtained the lock and that wasn't released for long time. As soon as I kill all sessions I was able to recompile but encounter the same behavior (i.e. locked package) and I wonder what tools are avail to identify what could of obtain it and never release it? This happen on (Oracle 10.0.4.2). Greatly appreciate for your help.

  • Can't send smtp email from network using C#, asp.net website

    Hi, I have my code here, it works fine from my home, where my user is administrator, and I am connected to internet via a cable network. But, problem is when I try this code from my work place, it does not work. Shows error: "unable to connect to the remote server" From a different machine in the same network: "A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network 209.xxx.xx.52:25" I checked with our network admin, and he assured me that all the mail ports are open [25,110, and other ports for gmail]. Then, I logged in with administrative privilege, there was a little improvement, it did not show any error, but the actual email was never received. Please note that, the code was tested from development environment, visual studio 2005 and 2008. Any suggestion will be much appreciated.   • Will VC++ MFC become obsolete in near future?

    Normally people say MFC is little clumsy. It makes UI development slightly difficult to maintain since it has lot of auto generated code. It has good architecture (doc/view) but is not transparent like Win32 programming to understand how window program works in the background. So with this situation, is it good to extend the exposure on MFC programming or better to switch to .NET since for faster UI design with ease in maintenance. Is it good to continue as MFC developer or good to know .NET as well? How globally companies are looking into MFC as a technology for UI developments. Are they comfortable in supporting their developers to continue with MFC or looking for changing their development technology.
