  I have a table with a lot of columns. For example I have a table with these columns : ID,Fname,Lname,Tel,Mob,Email,Job,Code,Company,...... ID column is auto number column. I want to copy all rows in this table to this table and change the company column value to 12 in this copied row. I don't want to write name all of the columns because I have a lot of table with a lot of columns.   Hi, I have a query which returns 2+ rows. In those results is a column which we can call columnX for now. Lets look at those example results: columnX 100 86 85 70 null null I get 6 rows for example, some of them are null, some of them are not null. Now I want to go through those results and stop as soon as I find a row which is < null. How can I do that? Thanks in advance :-)

  I have a scenario where: there are two (or more) tables that represent independent items. lets say Users and Companies Both of these tables need addresses stored. Each one can have one or more address In a normal 1 to many scenario Addresses table woudl just have a UserId or a CompanyId creating a normal 1 to many relationship. In this case i have a few approaches i can think of the Addresses table could have both a UserId and a CompanyId and only one would be used for each record. 2 keys could be used ObjectId and ObjectType So Object id would have a UserId or a CompanyId, and ObjectType woudl be User or Company Create an ObjectTable and add ObjectId to Users and Companies. Addresses would then have an OjbectId I do not really like any of these solutions. i am wondering what is the best approach here. On another note i will most likely user linqtosql for my data access layer.

I want to recover the colXX value by hour.... then I can recover with "decode" or "case when..." but I want know if exists any way to recover the column by a text like this: select "col"||hour from table; in the hypothetical above example if hour is 13 then would be translated like: select col13 from table; there is any way to do this ?

  I want to get the difference of two values within a time frame. so I have a table like this Data Table TimeStamp DataValue 2010-06-01 21 2010-06-03 33 2010-06-05 44 So I want to first get all data over the last month which I can do with something like. ([TimeStamp] < GETDATE()-0 and ([TimeStamp] > GETDATE()-31) But I want to see how much value added on over the course of the month. So it started at 21 and went to 44. So I would expect this example to to return 23 (as in 44-21). How would I build a query like this?

  I need a function which will do interval arithmetic, dealing "correctly" with the different number of days in a month. For my version of "correctly" - see below! First try select to_date('31-May-2014') + interval '1' months from dual This returns an error, because there is no 31st June. I understand that this behaviour is expected due to the ANSI standard. Second try select add_months(to_date('31-May-2014'),1) from dual This correctly (in my use case) returns 30th June 2014, which is great. BUT select add_months(to_date('28-Feb-2014'),1) from dual returns 31st March 2014, when I want 28th March 2014. Background This has to do with legal deadlines. The deadlines are expressed in law as a number of months (say, 3) from a base date. If the base date is last day of the month and three months later the month is longer, then the deadline does NOT extend to the end of the longer month (as per the add_months function). However, if the base date is last day of the month and three months later the month is shorter, then the deadline expires on the last day of the shorter month. Question Is there a function that does what I need? I have intervals (year to month) stored in a table, so preferably the function would look like: add_interval_correctly(basedate DATE, intervaltoadd INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH)

  I need to group a set of rows based on the Category column, and also limit the combined rows based on the SUM(Number) column to be less than or equal to the @Limit value. For each distinct Category column I need to identify "buckets" that are <=@limit. If the SUM(Number) of all the rows for a Category column are <=@Limit then there will be only 1 bucket for that Category value (like 'CCCC' in the sample data). However if the SUM(Number)@limit, then there will be multiple bucket rows for that Category value (like 'AAAA' in the sample data), and each bucket must be <=@Limit. There can be as many buckets as necessary. Also, look at Category value 'DDDD', its one row is greater than @Limit all by itself, and gets split into two rows in the result set.   Here's the query: INSERT INTO jobemails (jobid, to, subject, message, headers, datesent) VALUES ('340', '[email protected]', 'We\'ve received your request for a photo shoot called \'another\'.', 'message', 'headers', '2010-04-22 15:55:06') The datatypes are all correct, it always fails at the subject, so it must be how I'm escaping the values, I assume. I'm sure one of you will see my idiot mistake right away. A little help?

  I'm trying to migrate a site from a joomla system to a drupal. The problem is that drupal needs filename and sourcepath in the same row, but joomla only has filename. I'm looking for a way to add sourcepath before the filename in all the rows in that column. I'm figuring it's the UPDATE statement that I should use, but I can't figure out how to construct the query.   Hello, I have list of DateTime values, and for each value I need to fetch something from the database. I would like to do this with one query. I know it's possible to pass a table (list) to the stored procedure, but Im not sure how to write the query itself. Let's say I have the following table: CREATE TABLE Shows( ShowId [int] NOT NULL, StartTime DateTime NOT NULL, EndTime DateTime NOT NULL ) and an array of dates DECLARE @myDateArray MyCustomDateArrayType Now, if I were fetching a single item, I would write a query like this: SELECT * FROM Shows WHERE StartTime > @ArrayItem and @ArrayItem < EndTime where @ArrayItem is an item from @myDateArray . But how do I formulate the query that would fetch the information for all array items? Thanks!

I'd like to do something like select top 2 * from tbl_ranks where family_id = 1 order by view_count union all select top 2 * from tbl_ranks where family_id = 2 order by view_count union all select top 2 * from tbl_ranks where family_id = 3 order by view_count union all select top 2 * from tbl_ranks where family_id = 4 order by view_count but, of course, order by isn't valid in a union all context in this manner. Any suggestions? I know I could run a set of 4 queries, store the results into a temp table and select the contents of that temp as the final result, but I'd rather avoid using a temp table if possible. Note: in the real app, the number of records per family id is indeterminate, and the view_counts are also not fixed as they appear in the above example.

  Hello, I've certain situation that requires certain result set from MySQL query, let's see the current query first & then ask my question: SELECT thread.dateline AS tdateline, post.dateline AS pdateline, MIN(post.dateline) FROM thread AS thread LEFT JOIN post AS post ON(thread.threadid = post.threadid) LEFT JOIN forum AS forum ON(thread.forumid = forum.forumid) WHERE post.postid != thread.firstpostid AND thread.open = 1 AND thread.visible = 1 AND thread.replycount >= 1 AND post.visible = 1 AND (forum.options & 1) AND (forum.options & 2) AND (forum.options & 4) AND forum.forumid IN(1,2,3) GROUP BY post.threadid ORDER BY tdateline DESC, pdateline ASC As you can see, mainly I need to select dateline of threads from 'thread' table, in addition to dateline of the second post of each thread, that's all under the conditions you see in the WHERE CLAUSE. Since each thread has many posts, and I need only one result per thread, I've used GROUP BY CLAUSE for that purpose. This query will return only one post's dateline with it's related unique thread. My questions are: How to limit returned threads per each forum!? Suppose I need only 5 threads -as a maximum- to be returned for each forum declared in the WHERE CLAUSE 'forum.forumid IN(1,2,3)', how can this be achieved. Is there any recommendations for optimizing this query (of course after solving the first point)? Notes: I prefer not to use sub-queries, but if it's the only solution available I'll accept it. Double queries not recommended. I'm sure there's a smart solution for this situation. I'm using MySQL 4.1+, but if you know the answer for another engine, just share. Appreciated advice in advance :)

• Android sql creating database once

  One thing i'm not understanding is how to create the database and data just once in an android application. I extend SQLiteOpenHelper and use a DataHelper class that to manipulate data. Now, I have addEvent() and updateEvent() within the DataHelper class. I create an instance of DataHelper in my Activity and addEvent() a couple of times to insert data. Well, now I don't know how to just do that once. If I restart the app, its just going to "addEvent()" again and so the data is being reset every time. Sorry for the probably really REALLY noob question. The only solution I found was not using the DataHelper class and just adding data "manually" within the onCreate() method in SQLiteOpenHelper.
