  What is your advice on: compensation of accumulated error in bulk math operations on collections of Money objects. How is this implemented in your production code? (things like variable rounding, etc...) theory behind rounding in accountancy. any literature on topic. I currently read Fowler. He mentions Money type, but says nothing on strategies.   Hi, I'm trying to get better at C++ (I know a little). I'm working on character arrays. I found an exercise where the objective is to reverse a character array (after I convert it from an integer). I'm getting the following error (using VS2005): Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'revBuffer' was corrupted.   Hi guys, I am getting lot of traffic to my php pages but without the variable $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] setted. This traffic is like 1 hit per second. I don't know what it could be, but for reducing server load i am doing this at the top of every php pages: if (!isset($_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'])) exit; Do u know what could cause this? Is it safe to exit whenever http_host is not setted? Can a normal user visit my pages without setting http_host? PHP version: 5.2.0-8, Apache: 2.2.3 Thanks

  I m passing a variable to stored procedure, i want the proc to make a look up to another table and get the primary key of the table and insert that value to the table. Table A: pk_id int, user varchar Table B: userKey int When i invoke sp_howto, and pass user to it, i want to it to get the pk_id from table A and insert it to table B userKey. @res = select userKey from TableA where user=@user insert into tableB (userKey) values (@res) Does this work? and what if I have many keys I want to populate like this?

• How to find the real problem line in my code with Application Verifier ?

  I am now trying to use this Application Verifier debugging tool, but i am stuck, first of all: it breaks the program at a line that is simple variable set line (s = 1; for example) Secondly, now when i run this program under debugger, my program seems to have changed its behaviour: i am drawing image, and now one of the colors has changed o_O, all those parts of the image that i dont draw on, has changed the color to #CDCDCD when it should be #000000, and i already set the default color to zero, still it becomes to #CDCDCD. How do i make any sense to this? Here is the output AV gave me: VERIFIER STOP 00000002: pid 0x8C0: Access violation exception. 14873000 : Invalid address causing the exception 004E422C : Code address executing the invalid access 0012EB08 : Exception record 0012EB24 : Context record AVRF: Noncontinuable verifier stop 00000002 encountered. • In a shared .iml file, what should the jdkName be for an IntelliJ IDEA Plugin SDK?

  I work on a team where we commit our .iml files in version control so that everyone can use them. We have an .iml file for a plugin module, which includes the following: <orderEntry type="jdk" jdkName="IDEA IC-117.798" jdkType="IDEA JDK" /> however, that only works for people who are using that version (IC-117.798) of IntelliJ (some are on 12, some are using the ultimate edition, etc.) Is there any sort of variable like $INTELLIJ_SDK that could be used for the value of jdkName so that the .iml file is valid regardless of which version of IntelliJ you are using?

• scrollTop issue on constant moving div

  I have a FLASH object that I mouse over which in turn calls the following function to scroll a div. It works but due to the constant high speed scrolling it would throw up NULLS. This in turn caused IE to open a new page through my FLASH ActionScript 2.0 I found that by creating the SC variable and throwing in the condition "if it exists" keeps FLASH from causing IE to open a new page. However, it still creates an error behind the scenes of "Object Required". Although my application works I do not want load up memory with errors. • Rails: saving a string on an object -- syntax problem?

  Hey there, I am trying to write a simple function to clean a filename string and update the object. When I save a test string it works, but when I try to save the string variable I've created, nothing happens. But when I return the string, the output seems to be correct! • How to define an array inside a function in C?

  So in my source file I have the folowin function: void update(state* old_state, state* measurement, uint32_t size) { state new_state[size]; //some function using measurement and old_state and returning the result in newstate arm_fadd_32(measurement,old_state,newstate,size); // rest of the code } Now the compiler throws an error saying that error#28:expression must have a constant value. I think it's due to the fact that even though inside the method the size local variable is not changing the compiler is expecting a constant while defining the size. I have tried the following: int const a = size; and then tried to reinitialize it says constant value is not known. I did some research in internet and it appears that there is no easier way without using malloc, which I don't want to since I am using the code for some embedded application. Is there a way to avoid this problem without really using malloc? Thanks in advance guys!

  While trying to answer this question I found that the code int* p = new int[10](); compiles fine with VC9 compiler and initializes the integers to 0. So my questions are: First of all is this valid C++ or is it a microsoft extension? Is it guaranteed to initialize all the elements of the array? Also, is there any difference if I do new int; or new int();? Does the latter guarantee to initialize the variable?

  Hi, i initialize instance variables in .h file, NSInteger saveValue0, saveValue1, saveValue2, saveValue3; NSMutableArray *nodeArray; Now in .m file, in viewWillAppear event, saveValue0 = 0; saveValue1 = 2; saveValue2 = 3; saveValue3 = 0; nodeArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:saveValue0, saveValue1, saveValue2, saveValue3, nil]; But above variable does not inserted in the array. When i trying to see the objects in array using break point, it gives me 0 objects present in nodeArray. Why it will give me 0 objects. Any reason behind that?

• Run command with no terminal output

  Hello, I've searched around online, but can't find the answer to my question. What I want to do is run a command in pythong, using the subprocess module, and store the output in a variable. However, I do not want the command's output to be printed to the terminal. For this code: def storels(): a = subprocess.Popen("ls",shell=True) storels() I get the directory listing in the terminal, instead of having it stored in a. I've also tried def storels(): subprocess.Popen("ls > tmp",shell=True) a = open("./tmp") [Rest of Code] storels() This also prints the output of ls to my terminal. I've even tried this command with the somewhat dated os.system method, since running "ls tmp" in the terminal doesn't print ls to the terminal at all, but stores it in tmp. However, the same thing happens. I'm using python 2.6. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

However, this doesn't happen if I change the $to variable to a gmail account email, then they are shown correctly. Anybody got any idea? Thanks UPDATE: When I echo $name, the name is displayed correctly, in utf8, with all special chars nicely shown.

  I have a checkboxes on my site that when unchecked, update their row in in the db as unchecked, and if checked,update their row in the db as checked. I am creating an ifstatement that will commence with its command if checked, and not if unchecked. I have echoed the variable and it is holding the proper value (checked or unchecked) but not sure if I am syntactically correct on displaying the state of the row in the db.   I am wonder why after creating a very simple DataTable and then setting it to null why Garbage Collection does not clear out all the memory used by that DataTable. Here is an example. • Slide Effect happening too many times

  Hello all, I call this functions on onmouseover and onmouseout for several divs. //Takes effect on divs with id, 62,63,64,65... function slide_it(id){ $('#options_'+id).slideToggle('slow'); } The problem is that if I move my mouse over and then mouse out, then again, mouse over and then mouse out. If I do this several times, the slide effect happens the same number of times I moved my mouse over and out of the div, as expected. But I can't figure out how I can do this once? I can set a variable, but I have several divs that this function is used by and I can't think of a simple way of doing this rather than storing things into an array, but this is messy! I really appreciate any help on this that is simple to implement! Thanks all for any help

• files get uploaded just before they get cancelled

  Got a little situation here where I am trying to cancel a file's upload. What I have done is stated that if the user clicks on the "Cancel" button, then it will simply remove the iframe so that it does not go to the page where it uploads the files into the server and inserts data into the database. Now this works fine if the user clicks on the "Cancel" button in quickish time the problem I have realised though is that if the user clicks on the "Cancel" button very late, it sometimes doesn't remove the iframe in time meaning that the file has just been uploaded just before the user has clicked on the "Cancel" button. So my question is that is there a way that if the file does somehow get uploaded before the user clicks on the "Cancel" button, that it deletes the data in the database and removes the file from the server? • Is it possible to get the current request that is being served by node.js?

  I am using express.js. I have a need to be able to log certain request data whenever someone tries to log a message. For this I would like to create a helper method like so function log_message(level, message){ winston.log(level, req.path + "" + message); } I would then use the method like so. exports.index = function(req, res){ log_message("info", "I'm here"); } Note that I am not passing the req object to the log_message function. I want that to be transparently done so that the log_message API user does not need to be aware of the common data that is being logged. Is there a way to achieve this with express.js/node.js. Is the request object available from a global variable of some sort?

• Difference between local and instance variables in ruby

  I am working on a script that creates several fairly complex nested hash datastructures and then iterates through them conditionally creating database records. This is a standalone script using active record. After several minutes of running I noticed a significant lag in server responsiveness and discovered that the script, while being set to be nice +19, was enjoying a steady %85 - %90 total server memory. In this case I am using instance variables simply for readability. It helps knowing what is going to be re-used outside of the loop vs. what won't. Is there a reason to not use instance variables when they are not needed? Are there differences in memory allocation and management between local and instance variables? Would it help setting @variable = nil when its no longer needed?
