• Trying to run an ASP.NET MVC application using Mono on Apache with FastCGI

  I have a hosting account with DreamHost and I would like to use the same account to run ASP.NET applications. I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly though. This code is resulting in this error: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary. Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace. I have no idea what's causing this. As far as I can see, Mono isn't even hit (no log files are created).

• All my emails to Yahoo!, Hotmail and AOL are going to Spam, though I've implemented every validation

  Hi, I've implemented everything and checked everything (SPF, DomainKey, DKIM, reverse lookup), and only Gmail is allowing my emails to go to Inbox. Search and download samples from the online Samples Gallery when the user has internet access. Browse the sample code files and learn the sample documentation of downloaded samples with or without internet access.   In addition to the "browse” function, the Sample Browser could further support “bookmark”, “learning notes”, “code review”, and “quick social sharing". Make full use of the new touch and Windows Store App UI to give developers a new “relaxing” code browsing and learning experience, anytime, anywhere. • Linux udev persistent net rule

  I have a Linux system (Slackware Linux 13.0) with two network interfaces. Let's call them NIC0 and NIC1 My goal is to make NIC0 to appear as eth0 in the system. I know this can be achieved via udev rules that map network aliases to MAC addresses of network interfaces. In Slackware Linux the file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules contains such rules. The trickiest part of my problem is that I need to fake the MAC address of NIC0. I know I can dynamically change the MAC addres of a network interface with the command: ifconfig eth0 hw ether <new MAC address> Do you see the problem? This supposes that the network interfaces are already set up. So my question is: If I would have an udev rule for NIC1(the one that shall go up as eth1, with its original MAC address), would it be enough for the system to bring the other network interface (NIC0) as eth0 by default? This way I could change its MAC address later, after the udev machinery completes and the network aliases are brought up.

I have written a site that uses ASP.NET MVC Web API and all working nicely until I put it on staging server. The site works fine on my local machine and the dev web server. Both dev and staging servers are Win Server 2008 R2. The problem is this: basically the site works, but there are some API calls that use the HTTP PUT method. These fail on staging returning a 404, but work fine elsewhere. The first problem that I came across and fixed was in Request Filtering. But still getting the 404. I have turned on tracing in IIS and get the following problem. 168. -MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 16 HttpStatus 404 HttpReason Not Found HttpSubStatus 0 ErrorCode 2147942402 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification MAP_REQUEST_HANDLER ErrorCode The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002) The configs are the same on dev and staging, matter of fact the whole site is a direct copy. Why would the GETs and POSTs work, but not the PUTs? Thanks Greg

• Gotcha | Installing .net 4.0 and IIS 6

  Just a quick one, seems pretty weird to me. I installed .net 4.0 on an old IIS6 box, ready to deploy a asp.net mvc app targeting .net 4.0.  I thought, which to me seems logical, that I install .net 4.0, setup a new web site, new app pool, set the web site to asp.net 4.0 (other configuration also needed to run MVC on IIS6 here and here) and it would just work. Errr… No.  The page cannot be displayed!  Nothing to do with MVC. • What is a better language to use when building a database: Visual C# or Visual Basic (VB.net)? [on hold]

  I'm building a GUI and a database which is using SQL as a server (internal database not a web application). Which language is more of a "right tool" when it comes to building a not very structurally complicated database? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Visual C# / VB.net? I've been reading a lot of stuff online and they said that VB.net is not as capable and it doesn't have as much support as Visual C#, and it seems that VB.net is on a decline in terms of popularity.

• Issue While uploading a image to share point 2010 picture library.

  I was trying to upload a image to my picture library using sharepoint client object model. I Used the code from the below blog to upload a file to my picture library. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sridhara/archive/2010/03/12/uploading-files-using-client-object-model-in-sharepoint-2010.aspx The image got uploaded sucessfully. But when we took the relative url to update in a different list, we were getting empty image symbol. After a lot of analysis we figured out that the issue was with the file we uploaded. An image file which is of jpeg quality was uploaded to an application with giff extension. Try this. Copy a JPG file from net and save it to your file system. Change the extension of the file from jpg to giff. When you change the file extension the image quality remains same but it will open in picture viewers. Upload the file to your picture library. Once uploaded you will get the file listed as thumbail in your picture library. Click on the thumbnail image it will open up a page showing a larger image with file details. Now click either on the image or the file name hyper link, it will open up an empty page with default no image symbol. I wasted a lot of time on this figuring out the issue, so thought of sharing here. Hope this helps some one.

• IIS 7 and ASP.NET State Service Configuration

  We have 2 web servers load balanced and we wanted to get away from sticky sessions for obvious reasons. Our attempted approach is to use the ASP.NET State service on one of the boxes to store the session state for both. I realize that it's best to have a server dedicated to storing sessions but we don't have the resources for that. I've followed these instructions to no avail. The session still isn't being shared between the two servers. I'm not receiving any errors. I have the same machine key for both servers, and I've set the application ID to a unique value that matches between the two servers. Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this issue? Update: I turned on the session state service on my local machine and pointed both servers to the ip address on my local machine and it worked as expected. The session was shared between both servers. This leads me to believe that the problem might be that I'm not using a standalone server as my state service. Perhaps the problem is because I am using the ip address 127.0.0.1 on one server and then using a different ip address on the other server. Unfortunately when I try to use the network ip address as opposed to localhost the connection doesn't seem to work from the host server. Any insight on whether my suspicions are correct would be appreciated.

• ASP.Net Session Timing Out Rapidly

  We have an ASP.Net 3.5 website running on Windows Server 2008 with IIS7. The session timeout period for this site is configured to be 20 minutes - however, it is currently lasting for between 40 and 50 seconds. After researching the problem we investigated several configuration values which could be involved in the timeout period but none of them are set to less than 20 minutes. The areas we look are as follows: web.config system.web/sessionState element (20 minutes). web.config system.web/authentication/forms element (not present, defaults to 30 minutes). Sites/{website}/ASP/Session Properties/Time-out (20 minutes). Application Pools/{appPool}/Advanced Settings/Process Model/Idle Time-out (20 minutes). We've also noted that the CPU is staying around 0% and that RAM usage is flat-lining around 1.07 GB (of 8 GB available) - so there is no performance-based reason for IIS to be recycling the Application Pool as far as we can tell. Are there any settings we've overlooked which could cause the session timeouts to be expiring so quickly? EDIT A couple of additional points: This is not occurring in development, only on the server. The session is not sliding (i.e. if we refresh the page a few times it still times out approximately 40 - 50 seconds after the session was created.

• IIS7ASP.Net 4.0 - 404 errors only for external clients

  recently we moved an ASP.Net 3.5 website to 4.0 (integrated mode) and when we deployed to the clients server (Windows Server 2008 Web edition) we notice that some .aspx pages are serving 404 errors. What is strange is that 1) the pages exist 2) if you browse from the server itself the page is served as normal, only external clients get the 404 3) it's the default 404 error page not the one configured in the web.config 4) it only happens for some .aspx pages, and I've not been able to establish a link between the pages that are not being served externally. We are using a URL rewriter module which I first thought may be at fault but then realised that only some of the failing pages are being rewritten. I've also tested removing the http module and the problem still persists. As everything is working as expected when logged onto the server I was thinking it my be some sort of permission issue, but why would it only affect a few pages? I turned on failed request tracking and the debug files are being generated with the expected 404 error, although at the moment I'm not sure what most of the data means so can't decipher what's going on internally. I'd really appreciate some help with this one.
