  • Is there an alternative to HTML Web Sockets, now that Firefox 4 has disabled them?

    I've been checking out some of the latest multiplayer engines in HTML all supporting multi-user games (Very nice) - I believe all these engines use Web Sockets for communication. That’s why we’ve decided to disable support for WebSocket in Firefox 4, starting with beta 8 due to a protocol-level security issue. Beta 7 of Firefox has support for the -76 version of the protocol, the same version that’s included with Chrome and Safari. Beta 8 of Firefox 4 will remove that support. Anne van Kesteren of Opera also announced that Opera are dropping Websocket support. We are confident that other browser developers will follow. Source: Websockets Disabled in FireFox 4 I've just come accross the above, so no sockets in Firefox 4 or Opera.... thats big. Is anyone aware of an alternate or is it Chrome or do we need to just sit and wait for the next release of the major browsers. More info : Rocket Engine appears to work with all browsers including IE8 (http://rocketpack.fi/engine/) what will it be using as a method of communication?

  • Permissions denied on apache rewrite module virtual host configuration

    All of a sudden I keep getting "Permissions denied" on apache 2 virtualhost once we moved it to its own conf file. I have tried all the suggestions I have found here but none work.   • apache httpd.conf - virtualhost configuration

    I'm new to apache and httpd.conf The problem I'm having is I need different website to go to different vhost configs and if only the IP is requested it needs to go to the root index.html This works fine for the virtualhosts: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/bali-accommodation.co ServerName www.bali-accommodation.co </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/balibeach.co ServerName www.balibeach.co </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/dating-website.co ServerName www.dating-website.co </VirtualHost> However when I just specify the IP it does to www.XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (appends the www). I know in the websites there is a .htaccess redirect that adds the www but I didn't want the IP to go into the vhosts config. I tried adding this to the top of the Vhost config: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html ServerName localhost </VirtualHost> with above it shows the index.html perfectly but all the websites go into this catch all. I've also tried this for the websites vhosts: DocumentRoot /var/www/html/bali-accommodation.co ServerName www.bali-accommodation.co I've tried the above with and without the 'www' in the first line unsuccessfully. Is there a way to have the vhosts work for the domains and if someone just enters the IP it goes to the root index.html? /var/www/html/index.html? thankyou so much Adam

    Hello! I have an issue with terminal in Ubuntu 10.04. When I launch it, it hangs, like this: I cannot do anything until I press CTRL+C: I cannot remember when this started. What can be wrong?     I save pages that I browse on the net and find interesting into a folder called C:\PageSaves Later, during the commute, I open these pages to see what they are and move them into a neatly categorized folder tree. For example, Perl related pages goto C:\Pages\Perl, MySQL related pages goto C:\Pages\MySQL and so on. I was wondering if there is any way I could open any number of HTML files on disc / inside a folder (C:\PageSaves in my case) into Mozilla/FF/K-Meleon etc For example, I would like to just "drag and drop" the folder C:\PageSaves into FireFox and have it open all the .html pages in the folder in a separate tab Right now, if I "drag and drop" multiple HTML files, it just opens the last file in the selection. Have a set of toolbar buttons, basically, a (the) plugin that should allow me to nuke the page (if I don't want to keep the page anymore) from disc or move the file (and its corresponding folder) into a predefined / new folder I am familiar with coding full blown FireFox plugins, so even if something very basic/almost similar exists, I can take it forward. Hints/clues/other methods of achieving the same result are all welcome!

  • Redircting to a url that has a ? in it

    I have a somewhat strange problem. A client has moved their site to Wordpress - cool no problem. They use a service for link exchanges that has a Wordpress plugin. The issue is that the new Links pages use a query string to display the correct content and I cannot figure out how to redirect the old URLs correctly. Old URLs look like this: domain.com/link/category-name.html The plugin makes them look like this in WP: domain.com/links/?page=category-name.html How in the world can I get the redirect to work properly?   • nginx + apache subdomain redirection fault

    i really need your advice folks since i'm experiencing some troubles with nginx & apache2 subdomains configs first of all, there's a site (say, site.com) and two subdomains (links.site.com and shop.site.com) whose files are physically located at the same level of FS hierarchy as the site.com itself my hoster has configured both apache and nginx by my request, but it still doesn't work as it used to both of subdomains point to the main page of site.com for some unknown and implicit (for me) reason :( my assumption is that's happen because site.com record is placed first in both configs?!.. please help me solve this out!   • Possible to create "fake" forum (for prototyping) using html, javascript, jquery, css? [closed]

    I am trying to figure out if it might be possible to create a small forum without any use of a database and php coding. I have created a small (local and will only be local) webpage with a couple of menus. I have a forum button which will take me to another .html location. Here i would like to create something that looks like a forum and which you somewhat could interact with like a forum, without any database or PHP. I would probably want/need a form with a heading and text input. When i have given some input, i want it to be displayed as a thread, probably on top of the other threads (which will have to be created beforehand). When I refresh the forum will obviously be set to default, without saving what i just entered since I'm not using a database to save any data. So the new posts will not be saved, just displayed, neatly, when submitted. I'm doing this webpage with forum just as a prototype, and that is why it doesn't have to work as a professional forum. :) Would be very thankful for some tips, tricks, ideas or links to helpful threads.

For me, the ideal tool for doing so would be a Java-based one and should be executable from the command line or through an ANT task. Failing that, it would be something that runs on Linux and MacOS X.
