  • Headset undetected when plugged in

    I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my machine which was running windows 7. I have been trying to configure the audio to work exactly as it used to work in Windows but never been able to do so. I have followed this link exactly. I am still not getting the required configuration. aslamixer command shows me with 5 adjustable controls as shown below Master "adjustable" Speaker "adjustable" PCM "adjustable" Front "adjustable" AND Beep "adjustable" Mic Jack Mic In or Lin In S/PDIF OO "in a box" S/PDIF D OO "in a box" S/PDIF P DIGITAL or Analog M It does not detect the headset jack when plugged in. I here mean to say that the sound form the speakers does not go off when I plug in my headset jack. How can I make this working. Some other googling also did not help. I am on Hp Pavilion DV7 machine. The chip is IDT 92HD75B3X5 and the card is HDA ATI SB.

  • sound stopped working after upgrade to 11.10 on Tuesday 20th March

    My sound card stopped working after a set of updates were installed 2 days ago. The sound card is detected, the volume is not muted and the speakers work, I can make the speakers hum if I touch the jack plug lead that normally plugs into the card. hugh@lindisfarne:~$ lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio" 07:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs CA0106 Soundblaster Subsystem: Creative Labs SB0570 [SB Audigy SE] Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 16 I/O ports at c000 [size=32] Capabilities: Kernel driver in use: CA0106 Kernel modules: snd-ca0106 I've tried reverting those upgraded packages that look like the could impact the kernal - but to no avail. alsamixer does not have anything muted, I've been though all the sound card debug/troubleshooting pages I can find. Kernal driver is attached. So whats gone pop ? I will boot from CD to check - but I am pretty sure this is a sw and not a hw problem.

  • Glew in VS 2010: unresolved external symbol __imp__glewInit

    I am learning OpenGL by following the redbook. When I come to around page 90, I need use glGenBuffers(); Then I need install "glew". By following the steps in www.cs.uiowa.edu/~cwyman/classes/common/howto/winGLUT.html I download glew.zip from glew.sourceforge.net/ and unpack the files. I put glew.h in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Include and put glew32.lib in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Lib and put glew32.dll in C:\Windows\System32. After that, I build my project in VS 2010 and in Linker-input, I add dependencies glew32.lib. But when I build it, I have error unresolved external symbol _imp_glewInit I spend whole day to search solutions, but did not find one. Hope someone can help me with this.

  • Silverlight MergedDictionaries and subclassing of Application

    We have subclassed the Silverlight Application class to add some additional functionality and then use this in multiple projects. The problem is that the Resources defined in App.xaml do not seem to get loaded. Has anyone else seen this and/or have some insight?   • Periodic clicking sound from PC speaker

    After an update some months ago, my laptop has begun making a low, repeated clicking sound every few seconds. It is not being generated through the regular sound system, as altering the volume and even muting the sound does not make any difference. My regular audio works fine, by the way, so I am guessing this is some sort of PC speaker, since I cannot hear the click when I listen through regular headphones. Strangely, when I open the sound settings dialog the click magically disappears. I don't need to change any settings; if I simply leave the dialog open in the background then the problem disappears. Any ideas what this could be?   • .NET 3.5 Client Framework redistributable ?

    It's nice from Microsoft to offer things like the Client Framework for anybody who doesn't need the complete framework to run an application. But for about an hour I a searching the web for a redistributable version of this package. I can't find anything. It looks like Client Framework is only possible for Click-Once deployment or a bootstrapper who will download the framework. These are no options for me. On this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=992cffcb-f8ce-41d9-8bd6-31f3e216285c&displaylang=en I found a package that will contain both "The download package contains the .NET Framework Client Profile and the full .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1." But again this is not what I need and it's even bigger that the singleFramework. Is there anything like the .NET 3.5 Client Framework redistributable ?

  • Aop, Unity, Interceptors and ASP.NET MVC Controller Action Methods

    Using log4net we would like to log all calls to our ASP.NET MVC controller action methods. The logs should include information about any parameters that were passed to the controller. Rather than hand-coding this in each action method we hope to use an AoP approach with Interceptors via Unity. We already have this working with some other classes that use interfaces (using the InterfaceInterceptor). However, we're not sure how to proceed with our controllers. Should we re-work them slightly to use an interface, or is there a simpler approach? Edit The VirtualMethodInterceptor seems to be the correct approach, however using this results in the following exception: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.     From what I understand, each mapper outputs an intermediate file. The intermediate data (data contained in each intermediate file) is then sorted by key. Then, a reducer is assigned a key by the master. The reducer reads from the intermediate file containing the key and then calls reduce using the data it has read. But in detail, how is the intermediate data organized? Can a data corresponding to a key be held in multiple intermediate files? What happens when there is too much data corresponding to one key to be held by a single file? In short, how do intermediate partitions differ from intermediate files and how are these differences dealt with in the implementation?

  • How do I push code to github on shutdown?

    I switch between working at home and the office, and sometimes, like today, I forget to run a git commit/push. (I find it easy to ignore the command line since I'm still kind of a beginner, there.) How can I make it so that when I shut down my Ubuntu OS, it will follow this process: Check my local code against the github server, executing the rest of this script only if I've made newer changes. Add all new files. Make commits with a basic default comment. Push all changed code to origin master. If anyone knows how to do this, it would be a major assist. Also, anyone know how to do it for Mac OSX? :D

  • Drupal: I cannot connect to the database.. please help

    hi, I've hard time to make Drupal work on IIS Microsoft server. I've succesfully run Joomla on the same server so I'm pretty sure the following information are correct: host: localhost user: user pass: pass databaseName = servername_databasename I've set the following line in settings.php file: $db_url = 'mysql://user:password@localhost/servername_databasename'; but what I get is this: If you are the maintainer of this site, please check your database settings in the settings.php file and ensure that your hosting provider's database server is running. For more help, see the handbook, or contact your hosting provider. I don't get any other error message such as: database doesn't exist, user/pass wrong.. just this. The database is running, I can access with phpmyadmin. I've tried both "mysql" and "mysqli". The host is a private server (IIS Microsoft), the database is Mysql The database and website files upload have also been succesfull.. so I dunno what to do to fix this issue. thanks

  • Inspection, code review - is it really testing?

    ISTQB, Wikipedia or other sources classify verification acitivities (reviews etc.) as a static testing, yet other do not. If we can say that peer reviews and inspections are actually a kind of a testing, then a lot of standards do not make sense (consider e.g. ISO which say that validation is done by testing, while verification by checking of work products) - it should at least say dynamic testing for validation, shouldn't it? I am completing master thesis dealing with QA and I must admit that I have never seen worse and more ambiguous and contradicting literature than in this field :/ Do you think (and if so, why) that static testing is a good and justifiable term or should we stick to testing and static checks/analysis?

  • How can I transition from a front-end career to back-end career?

    Hello, In 2004, I received my B.S. in Computer Science using mostly Java for programming. Since then, I have been hired for purely front-end positions in large companies through recruiters, doing primarily HTML/CSS, Javascript/jQuery, and OOP Actionscript 3. While I definitely have respect for the front-end, and have learned much, I feel very unfulfilled and would love to move into back-end for the more complex programming I was doing in school. My target platform of choice is ASP.Net 3.5 (C#). With a resume that has absolutely no .Net or back-end experience, how can I transition into a junior back-end job? I am currently freelancing a .Net e-commerce site, and plan to build a portfolio showcasing some apps (e-commerce mvc, blog, etc), while learning the technology. Is having a Bachelors in CS enough or should I look into getting .Net certified? Is showing course-work still relevant to an employer even though it was from 6 years ago? Thank you

    I recently upgraded a C# project from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4. I have a method that extracts all MSTest test methods from a given list of MethodBase instances. Its body looks like this: return null == methods || methods.Count() == 0 ? null : from method in methods let testAttribute = Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(method, typeof(TestMethodAttribute)) where null != testAttribute select method; This worked in .NET 3.5, but since upgrading my projects to .NET 4, this code always returns an empty list, even when given a list of methods containing a method that is marked with [TestMethod]. Did something change with custom attributes in .NET 4? Debugging, I found that the results of GetCustomAttributesData() on the test method gives a list of two CustomAttributeData which are described in Visual Studio 2010's 'Locals' window as: Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.DeploymentItemAttribute("myDLL.dll") Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.TestMethodAttribute() -- this is what I'm looking for When I call GetType() on that second CustomAttributeData instance, however, I get {Name = "CustomAttributeData" FullName = "System.Reflection.CustomAttributeData"} System.Type {System.RuntimeType}. How can I get TestMethodAttribute out of the CustomAttributeData, so that I can extract test methods from a list of MethodBases?

    I am building an installer and I want to bootstrap SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP2. The problem is that I am looking for the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\ENU\DesktopRuntimeVersion. The reason that is a problem is that for 64-bit machines SQL CE requires that both the 32-bit and 64-bit installers are run. You can't install the 64-bit version until the 32-bit version is installed. As soon as the 32-bit version is installed the registry key is populated and my bootstrapper, dotNetInstaller detects that the registry key is there and the x64 version is never installed. Any ideas on how to tell if the x64 version is installed even if the x32 is installed?
