• [Symfony] Admin generator and i18n

  I have read lots of questions about i18n, but I haven't found any about performance. I have a simple backend app listing the contents of an ads table. These ads have a category, that is translated in some languages (it's defined as i18n in the Doctrine schema). So, when I add a "table_method" in my generator.yml to include de Category table, it reduces the number of queries, but there are yet some of them referencing i18n translation tables. So, if I add the category Translation table to the query, it reduces even more the queries BUT it increases the processing time considerably. Why this time penalty? Just because of the translation table? And why isn't the filter using this method to avoid so many translation queries as well? I mean, if I want to filter by category, it is making one query per category to include the translation table. Why??

• Can I change the database server and database a report is pointing to dynamically?

  I have a Crystal 2008 report that will be deployed to an InfoView server. There are four different databases the user might want to execute the report against. Each of the four databases have exactly the same schema. Only the data in each is different. Each database corresponds to a plant we have around the world. Instead of creating four different reports (each one connected to one of the four databases), am I able to dynamically change the server/database the report hits based on a value the user enters into a parameter? I'm really trying to avoid having to create four identical reports except for the database connection on each. If this isn't possible, how do developers typically deal with this sort of scenario? I would imagine it's fairly common. Thanks very much.

• Silverlight 4 webclient authentication - anyone have this working yet?

  So one of the best parts about the new Silverlight 4 beta is that they finally implemented the big missing feature of the networking stack - Network Credentials! In the below I have a working request setup, but for some reason I get a "security error" when the request comes back - is this because twitter.com rejected my api call or something that I'm missing in code? I know it is possible to make a method that takes a parameter such as List and this generates correctly using JAX-WS.   My application data access layer is built using Spring and EclipseLink and I am currently trying to implement the following feature - Ability to switch the current/active persistence unit dynamically for a user. I tried various options and finally ended up doing the following. In the persistence.xml, declare multiple PUs. Create a class with as many EntityManagerFactory attributes as there are PUs defined. • Survey statistic diagram ideas

  Hey everyone, I've got some homework tasks in topic surveys and diagrams. The first task is to normalize the input of a survey, because the structure of the data is changing from time-to-time. So there are three types of surveys: static fields, where text is stored dynamic ones, where the user can select one option and multiselect fields, where the user can select multiple options So I'm not really a statistics guy, so I have really no idea what I can do with that incomming data. So the data I have is stored in an orbital XML file from there I can easily get how man times a survey was filled, and how many times a field was filled, so I can (for eg on a pie chart show the relation of filled or not filled). The second idea is to show the relation between the content of a multi option element using a bar chart or so. In case of the multi option elements I've got the idea to show data in implication of one option. But the question is, what could be shown? The other problem are the static elements (text fields and so). What data could be represented from a single field? The data in the XML field is collected from 2001 to 2005 So maybe I can work with the dates of the surveys, but as I said, i don't really know how to process the data, to collect as much data as possible.

  I'm working with an existing database schema, and trying to setup two Doctrine models with a Many to Many relationship, as described in this document When creating tables from scratch, I have no trouble getting this working. However, the existing join tables use a different naming convention that what's described in the Doctrine document. Specifically Table 1 -------------------------------------------------- table_1_id ....other columns.... Table 2 -------------------------------------------------- table_2_id ....other columns.... Join Table -------------------------------------------------- fktable1_id fktable_2_id Basically, the previous developers prefaced all forign keys with an fk. From the examples I've seen and some brief experimenting with code, it appears that Doctrine 1.2 requires that the join table use the same column names as the tables it's joining in Is my assumption correct? If so, has the situation changed in Doctrine 2? If the answers to either of the above are true, how do you configure the models so that all the columns "line up"

  I'm trying to make a simple flash application providing interface for taking tests as a high school assignment. One of the requirements is to use an XML file as data source.Now, having a List component bound to the XML file with questions consisting of data such as question body, question type (ie. single choice, multiple choice, open, image etc.) and possible answers (where applicable), I was wondering if I could add some additional data (and what is the best possible way to do so) to each question upon its transfer to the List component. I am trying to achieve two main goals with this: firstly, to mark the questions to which an answer has already been given, like with such code in ItemRenderer class: <s:Label color="{data.color}" text="{data.label}"/> where data.color would be set whenever the user gives an answer to a question. Secondly, while at it, I thought of such possibility as a great way to store answers given to particular questions. In this case, the Class of the answer object would have been Object, since there has to be many type of questions (where the answer could also be a Bitmap for example). This is a question of both how to do it and if it seems a good idea at all (and if no, if there is a better way?), because I am quite new to the whole Flash Builder and Flex thing and I am not really accustomed to all the possibilities and best practices. After every match the temp table is updated which holds the id of players that played the last match and the points they earned. Next run a procedure that will match the pid from temp table with every uid of user-player table having the same pid. add the points from temp table to the count of user table for every matching uid. empty temp table. My questions is considering 200 players and 10000 users,Will this method be efficient? I am going to be using mysql for this.

  I'm running an classified ads website and I'm charging a specific fee for each ad placed. As you may know paypal charges a specific percent for each transaction + a specific amount fee (e.g 2,9% + 0.30 cents) . I have customers who place about 30 ads per month therefore I would like to integrate a schema that would cut the specific amount fee . Basically I'm looking to make "pre-approve" call every time after the client place an ad to make sure that he has the money to pay and at the end of the month to cancel all the scheduled pre-approved transactions and make a single payment request with the whole amount. The question that I have is : Will I be charged for the pre-approved transactions that I cancel ?

I want to transfer update from a table in source database to a table in destination database (two tables are of the same schema, both of them are using a single column as unique primary key). The transfer rule is (in short, the rule is keeping the destination database the same as source database because of the update of the source database), if there is a new row in source database but not in destination database, insert the row in destination database; if a row not exists in source database but exists in destination database, delete the row in destination database; if a row's content (i.e. columns other than primary key columns) changes in source database, update the new content into destination database. thanks in advance, George

  Hi I am doing some work on an application that uses an existing schema that cannot be altered. Whilst writing my NHibernate mappings I encountered a strange many-to-many relationship. The relationship is defined in the standard way as in this question with the addition of a boolean flag on the association table that signifies if the relationship is legal. This seems somewhat redundant but as I say, cannot be changed. Is it possible to define this relationship in Nhibernate without resorting to using a third class to represent the association?   I'm trying to create a Django model that handles the following: An Item can have several Names. One of the Names for an Item is its primary Name, i.e. the Name displayed given an Item. (The model names were changed to protect the innocent.) Is there a way to automatically set primaryName to the first Name found, if primaryName is not set, since I'm using inline admin for the names?
