• Increasing Max Upload File Size on IIS7/Win7 Pro

  I'm setting up a server for a client (something I don't typically do), and I'm running into issues with uploading larger files (11MB). The server is running Windows 7 Professional with IIS added. In web.config I've tried setting <system.web> <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="65536" /> <!-- 64MB --> </system.web> ... and that doesn't work. I've set <system.webSecurity> <security> <requestFiltering> <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="68157440" /> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webSecurity> ... and that doesn't work either. What am I missing here? As I've said, I don't typically set up servers, so I may be missing something obvious... no suggestion will be scoffed at! Thanks in advance.

• Entlib validation to syntax to accept only numeric month numbers?

  I've got an enum defined as such: Private Enum AllowedMonthNumbers _1 _2 _3 _4 _5 _6 _7 _8 _9 _10 _11 _12 End Enum Then a property validator defined as: <TypeConversionValidator(GetType(Int32), MessageTemplate:="Card expiry month must be numeric.", Ruleset:="CreditCard")> _ <EnumConversionValidator(GetType(AllowedMonthNumbers), MessageTemplate:="Card expiry month must be between 1 and 12.", Ruleset:="CreditCard")> _ The validation expects "_#", as when I remove the TypeConversionValidator, it passes with setting the value to "_3" or any other number in the enum. What I need is for this to only accept b/t 1-12, and simply having numeric values in the enum won't work. Any tips? Thanks. • Add Image to Base64 Encoded ImageStream in Resources (resx)

  I'm working on an older project, updating it. Part of the program has a toolstrip with many buttons on it, each with an image. I found that the images are stored in a Base64 encoded imagestream in the resx for the form and accessed as such: System.ComponentModel.ComponentResourceManager resources = new System.ComponentModel.ComponentResourceManager(typeof(Form1)); ... this.imageList1 = new System.Windows.Forms.ImageList(this.components); ... this.toolStrip1.ImageList = this.imageList1; ... this.imageList1.ImageStream = ((System.Windows.Forms.ImageListStreamer)(resources.GetObject("imageList1.ImageStream"))); ... this.toolStripButton1.ImageIndex = 0; //There are 41 images, so this can be between 0 and 40 I need to add another button with a new image. How can I add an image to this stream? I cannot use the designer, as it crashes as soon as I load the form (I believe because it uses a custom component with unsafe code). I could always just add a new image resource separate from the stream, but that would make that one button different and thus it would create problems with consistency, causing upkeep problems later. So I'm wondering if there is any way for me to edit the imagestream. I can access the raw base64 string, but I have no idea where to go from here.

• jQuery UI Dialog adding unwanted inline styles to images

  I am using JQUery UI to for the front end of a rails app I am developing. I am using jQuery dialog windows for displaying some tabbed data and inside one of these tabs I want to render some images. The rendering of the images works fine if I view the page without Javascript, however for some reason when putting it all in a dialog window all but the last image that I render gets some inline styles from somewhere! wihtout the dialog window: <img alt="Dsc_0085" class="picture" src="/system/sources/3/normal/DSC_0085.jpg?1260300748" /> <img alt="Dsc_0006" class="picture" src="/system/sources/4/normal/DSC_0006.jpg?1260301612" /> with the dialog window: <img alt="Dsc_0085" class="picture" src="/system/sources/3/normal/DSC_0085.jpg?1260300748" style="height: 0px; width: 0px; border-top-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; font-size: 22px; border-left-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; display: inline; "> <img alt="Dsc_0006" class="picture" src="/system/sources/4/normal/DSC_0006.jpg?1260301612" style="display: inline; "> I can't work out why putting the images into a dialog window is giving them inline styles with height and width of 0px, does anyone have any ideas?

I can't figure out if this is: me missing something during code-generation or packaging a runtime dependency missing a misleading error message, and I should be looking elsewhere. • MSWord automation:Get file contents after it was saved

  I have an application that uses MSWord automation to edit some documents, after they save and close word I need to grab the modified file and put it back on the repository, there is only one scenario where I can't get it to work and that is when the user makes changes to the file, selects to close word and selects yes to save the file there are 2 events that I'm using: DocumentBeforeSave Quit on the Quit event I'm trying to load the .docx file from disk but on this particular scenario I get an IOException because the file is still in use, somehow I need to wait until after the Quit event has been processed, which is when Word is actually closed and the file is no longer being used right now I have it working using this word.Visible = true; while (!wordDone) { //gets changed to true on the Quit event System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100); } bool error = false; do { try { //need to load the contents of the modified file ls.Content = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(provider.GetFileName()); error = false; } catch (System.IO.IOException) { error = true; System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(200); } } while (error); while this works it is very ugly, I need a way to fire an event after the Quit event has been handled, or block the current thread while word is still running, or get an event after the document has been saved, the bottom line is I need a clean way to load the file after it has been saved and word is closed. DocumentAfterSave would be awesome, but doesn't seem to exist. I Also tried unhooking the Quit handler and calling word.Quit on the Quit handler, that made no difference

• Using Entity Framework with an SQL Compact Private Installation

  I am using Entity Framework 4 in a desktop application with SQL Compact. I want to use a private installation of SQL Compact with my application, so that my installer can install SQL Compact without giving the user a second installation to do. It also avoids versioning hassles down the road. My development machine has SQL Compact 3.5 SP1 installed as a public installation, so my app runs fine there, as one would expect. But it's not running on my test machine, which does not have SQL Compact installed. I get this error: The specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. I know some people have had difficulty with SQL Compact private installations, but I have used them for a while, and I really like them. Unfortunately, my regular private installation approach isn't working. I have checked the version numbers on my SQL CE files, and they are all 3.8.8078.0, which is the SP2 RC version. Here are the files I have included in my private installation: sqlcecompact35.dll sqlceer35EN.dll sqlceme35.dll sqlceqp35.dll sqlcese35.dll System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll System.Data.SqlServerCe.Entity.dll I have added a reference to System.Data.SqlServerCe to my project, and I have verified that all of the files listed above are being copied to the application folder on the installation machine. Here is the code I use to configure an EntityConnectionStringBuilder when I open a SQL Compact file: var sqlCompactConnectionString = string.Format("Data Source={0}", filePath); // Set Builder properties builder.Metadata = string.Format("res://*/{0}.csdl|res://*/{0}.ssdl|res://*/{0}.msl", edmName); builder.Provider = "System.Data.SqlServerCe.3.5"; builder.ProviderConnectionString = sqlCompactConnectionString; var edmConnectionString = builder.ToString(); Am I missing a file?   I have a WCF service running, I added a reference to the service by using Add Service Reference in the solution explorer, and I checked the box for create asynchronous operations. My call works fine, I have a two way channel that reports back some events from the server and I am receiving the events. However, when the asynchronous task finishes in my callback handeler I get the error Unable to cast object of type 'SendAsyncResult' to type 'System.Runtime.Remoting.Messaging.AsyncResult'. Code that calls the method.   I am attempting to insert a custom behavior into my service client, following the example here. I appear to be following all of the steps, but I am getting a ConfigurationErrorsException. Is there anyone more experienced than me who can spot what I'm doing wrong?   Hi all, New to Castle/Windsor, please bear with me. I am currently using the framework System.Web.Mvc.Extensibility and in its start up code, it registered HttpContextBase like the following: container.Register(Component.For<HttpContextBase>().LifeStyle.Transient.UsingFactoryMethod(() => new HttpContextWrapper(HttpContext.Current))); What I wanted to do is to change the behavior and change the lifestyle of httpContextBase to be PerWebRequest. so I have change the code to the following: container.Register(Component.For<HttpContextBase>().LifeStyle.PerWebRequest.UsingFactoryMethod(() => new HttpContextWrapper(HttpContext.Current))); However, when I do this, I got the following error: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Looks like you forgot to register the http module Castle.MicroKernel.Lifestyle.PerWebRequestLifestyleModule Add '<add name="PerRequestLifestyle" type="Castle.MicroKernel.Lifestyle.PerWebRequestLifestyleModule, Castle.MicroKernel" />' to the <httpModules> section on your web.config which I did under <system.web> and <system.webServer>, however, I am still getting the same error.   How do I get this code to work? When I run the whole program I think it just exits because it never returns true.   Hi, Im loading an image from a SQL CE db and then trying to load that into a PictureBox. I am saving the image like this: if (ofd.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { picArtwork.ImageLocation = ofd.FileName; using (System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(ofd.FileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open)) { byte[] imageAsBytes = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(imageAsBytes, 0, imageAsBytes.Length); thisItem.Artwork = imageAsBytes; fs.Close(); } } and then saving to the Db using LINQ To SQL. I load the image back like so: using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"C:\Temp\img.jpg", FileMode.CreateNew ,FileAccess.Write )) { byte[] img = (byte[])encoding.GetBytes(ThisFilm.Artwork.ToString()); fs.Write(img, 0, img.Length); } but am getting an OutOfMemoryException. I have read that this is a slight red herring and that there is probably something wrong with the filetype, but i cant figure what. Any ideas? • How to fix security exception when using recaptcha on MVC site

  I followed this excellent blog post to implement recaptcha on my MVC site: http://devlicio.us/blogs/derik_whittaker/archive/2008/12/02/using-recaptcha-with-asp-net-mvc.aspx I converted the code to VB, and everything seems to compile ok. However, when the code gets to the place where the recapture is about to be generated, I get a security exception. • Opened SerialPort crashes C# application

  The computer is connected to measuring device via a physical COM1. I have simple form where I open a serial port, tell the device that I'm alive and occasionally the device sends data. It reports an ObjectDisposedException (for the underlying stream?). The message tells that the SafeHandle was closed. Stack strace is below: at Microsoft.Win32.UnsafeNativeMethods.GetOverlappedResult(SafeFileHandle hFile, NativeOverlapped lpOverlapped, Int32& lpNumberOfBytesTransferred, Boolean bWait) at System.IO.Ports.SerialStream.EventLoopRunner.WaitForCommEvent() at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()* Any ideas? • How does one use OpenFileDialog in C# in visual Studio 2010

  I have written a custom dialog (form) that I can use in a C# program that behaves much like a "File - Open" menu command and brings up a window where a user can select a file or directory. The question I have is this. It has "My Computer" as its root. How can I have it so that it searches on a Network? If the file or directory is located on a network. Or better yet, in Visual Studio 2010, is there some sort of canned FileOpenDialog that I can use right away? I tried calling the OpenFileDialog as described in the example code at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.openfiledialog.aspx but the compiler does not seem to like DialogResult.OK as used in this line of code: if(openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) The compiler says: Error 1 'System.Nullable' does not contain a definition for 'OK' and no extension method 'OK' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Nullable' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I tried using the namespace Microsoft.Win32 instead of System.Windows.Forms and neither worked. They both produced this error.

  Using GoDaddy to host my site (I know that's my first problem)! :-) Trying to setup customer error messages for my site. GoDaddy allows you to setup a 404 in their control panel, but I can't override this, or setup any additional error redirects, specifically a 500-server error.
