• ftp server over internet using different port

  I want to make my ftp server over the internet i made it on Debian linux computer and i changed the port of it to 201 my local ip is 192.168.1.3 so i can access it from any computer on my network through ftp :// mylocalip:201 it appear to me the login page i login with my linux user and can see the files on my ftp server to make it public i make port mapping on my router for port 201 when i try ftp :// mypublicip:201 it give me the login page and when i entered the login data it is loading infinity without open my ftp server files when i made it over default port 21 it works fine. can any one tell me what is the problem here?

• Adobe Encore CS4 DVD Menu Button Not Functioning

  Hello, I've built a DVD in Adobe Encore CS4, and everything works great in the preview. However, when I go and burn to DVD, we have one issue. On the DVD menu, there are two text buttons, with no background when unselected, and have a background when selected. That allows the user to know which is selected. Like I said, everything works great in the preview, but the background that is supposed to appear when the button is selected does not. The buttons work, but there is no background when selected.   Does anyone know of a place where you can create your own handwritten font for free? I used to use http://www.yourfonts.com/, but now they want money. Is there some sort of free, downloadable tool to do this? BTW: There are some online programs that allow the user to create a font using a mouse. (See this question). Very cool. But, I want something that can take a scan and turn it into a font file. Any ideas?

• Video codec that can be read on clean installs of either Windows, OS X and Ubuntu

  I have to make a video that will need to be watched on different operating systems. Is there a "universal" video codec that can be played on Windows, OS X and Linux without requiring additional plugins or player other than those that comes on a default clean install of each of those systems? Compression is not an issue, I'm merely looking for compatibility (e.g. for audio, I would use WAV as a universal codec). Note : I must assume that the video will be distributed in countries where software patents are enforced, and therefore can't rely on the user to install non-free codecs on Linux. Thanks.

  I am an advanced user, using Windows 7 with Avast! antivirus running. Today I started browsing and faced some weird popup. Upon investigation I found that "Relevant Knowledge" was running in my system. I was able to uninstall it using the Programs Manager and deleted the file's entries in the registry, but I am a little troubled due to the fact that Avast! was not able to detect it; and secondly, how it came into my system. Also, what further prevention measures should I take?

  I am not competent on server issues, any help is much appreciated. • Manual TRIM Windows 7 on OCZ VERTEX 2 SATA II 2.5" SSD

  I have an OCZ VERTEX 2 SATA II 2.5" SSD with Windows 7 Professional installed on it. I am pretty sure TRIM is not working because my motherboard is the Asus M2N-SLI (not the Deluxe model) which does not support AHCI mode for the drive. Is there a utility that is compatible with this drive that I could possibly run once a day that would do something similar to a manual TRIM in order to keep the drive performance up? I could not find one specifically for this drive on the OCZ website. I did find a User-Initiated Garbage Collection wiper tool, but it is for a Vertex drive not Vertex 2. I tried to run it, but it said that wiper could not be run for all the drives on this system.

  I need FTP on my local LAN so my scanner can send me scans. I am on Debian sid. I installed ftpd and created the user anonymous. I removed anonymous from /etc/ftpusers When I try to login as anonymous it says: login failed. I can't seem to find any log file. I'm using FTP server (Version 6.4/OpenBSD/Linux-ftpd-0.17) update:I needed that so my printer had one place to store my scanned documents on the LAN. solved that buying a dedicated USB pen drive (thankfully I bought a printer one with plenty of options) but in the past this was a very simple task. Install ftpd, specify the directory for anonymous access, and be done with it. now every ftp daemon has several layers of security and chroot in it's core... this is just crazy when all you need a place for a printer to dump files in a secured network.

• Outlook keeps dropping 'Other Calendars'

  We run Exchnage 2010 with Outlook 2007, and we have public calendars that users are able to 'Add to favorites...' - these are then shown under 'Other Calendars' when a user clicks their 'Calendar' tab. The issue we are having is that these calendars drop off every now and again. Looking under 'Public Folders - Favorites', I can see that the calendars are there, but Outlook doesn't seem to know that they are calendars any more. Simply clicking on one of them to open it changes the icon to that of a 'Folder containing calendar items' for each of the favorite items, and closing and reopening Outlook gets them back under 'Other Calendars' My question is this - how can I make Outlook stop forgetting that these public folders are calendars?   I have seen that most of virus , spyware etc changes few registry files which are linked to boot process or which starts when window loads user settings. Is there any way to lock those files which are linked to start the system like explorer.exe , userinit.exe so that virus at least should not be able to stop the system to start up. Why did'nt microsoft put those registry file separately so that nothing can touches them Now my userinit.exe file is affected and its not letting me logn on to computer. I get blank desktop but system loads during safe mode. I have run anti virus bootable cd but still have not found solution

  When I signed up for my Debian Linux VPS hosting and first logged on and invoked ps, there was the only user process running: sshd. As I can see, this was minimal Linux with only two things installed and configured: sshd and apt (plus all dependencies, of course). I want to build (or use existing) similar Linux distro, any advice on how to build (or pick) one? Googling "minimum linux", or "linux with sshd only" usually brings up Debian's netinstall, which is not what I want. Thanks in advance.

• Google Chrome doesn't stay logged in to Google sites when using pinned tabs

  Despite checking "stay logged in" or the like on Gmail or Docs, Chrome refuses to do so when I close and re-open it with Google sites pinned. If they're not pinned, it works fine. The "Clear cookies and other site and plug-in data when I close my browser" checkbox in the settings is not checked, and I don't have any cookie exceptions. All settings are defaults. Nor is the incognito mode being used. This occurs on all my computers using Chrome. I have deleted my cookies file (%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cookies) with no effect (other than losing the logins that ordinarly work fine). Of note is that when I relaunch Chrome with Gmail pinned and it asks me to log in, doing so once will fail (does nothing; no errors), then it will work on the second attempt. If I refresh the window before doing so, it will work on the first attempt.

• Can't start program by PsExec on windows server 2003 64-bit

  I ran PsExec on a windows server 2003 32-bit machine to remotely launch a program on a windows server 2003 64-bit machine. The program is a win32 program with dependency to msvcr80.dll, msvcp80.dll, msjava.dll, PocoFoundation.dll, PocoNet.dll. The process will freeze and looks like fail to start the user interface. However, the program was running fine if I log on that 64-bit machine and double click on it. What could be wrong with using PsExec to launch it? I use process explorer but couldn't find anything. Thanks. EDIT: An update, this issue is actually happening to every program that launch by psexec on that host. For example, if try to use psexec to launch notepad.exe, I can see the process name (notepad.exe) in task manager, and notepad tab on taskbar. But when click on notepad tab, the window won't show up. It looks like the application stuck in the middle of launching process.

For that I need to execute another exe on shutdown, which will disconnect drives mounted by my app. I got few links which shows we can create a entry in Group Policy to execute a programe while window shut down.   There's a Linksys WRT54GL router with DD-WRT firmware (v23SP2). What I tried, as suggested here: ping -I vlan2 <address> ping 192.168.2.1 <address> In both cases ping simply exits with no error messages. Also, ping ignores many other parameters, again, by exiting silently. I failed to find any references that DD-WRT has a limited version of ping whatsoever. I also don't think it can be a permissions issue as mentioned here since the only user with DD-WRT is root. What's wrong?

• Shortcut key for "Open file location" in Windows 7

  I'm new to Windows (former Mac user) and using Windows 7 for about two months now. I almost exclusively use the taskbar to navigate to files (i.e., I press the Win/meta key and start typing... my libraries and naming conventions make it pretty easy to get the correct file). Then I press enter and the file opens. Awesome. But sometimes I want to see the file in its folder (i.e., maybe I want to rename, move, copy, etc.). To do this I need to mouse/trackpad over and right click to get the "Open in file location" options. Is there another way, short of searching for the folder name instead? Is there a hotkey/shortcut for "Open file location"? Thanks!

• How to disable auto-assume in Google Chrome

  I've noticed that whenever I sign in in Google Chrome version 21.0 it automatically assumes and it automatically knows what I want to search. I basically use the address bar to search(my default search engine is Google) I don't go type Google.com on the address bar and then search from there. So what happens is that when I type something for example "vernier" for vernier caliper I'm automatically redirected to my facebook account which has a user account name of vern.ancheta. It's really getting annoying, this happens for every search term that I used maybe even ones that I haven't used before in my entire search history in Google. It always assumes as if it knows what I'm really thinking. What's the solution for this? Is this a bug in Google Chrome or just one of its annoying features. Please enlighten me on this.

  Is there any program or way to make Mac OS X's ?(command)-tab behave like Windows' alt-tab? That is, instead of switching between applications, to switch between windows of all applications. I do know there's a way to switch between windows of the same application, but that's not what I want either. I'm not just trying to make Mac OS X behave like my recent former OS, I've been a Mac user for over two years and before that Ubuntu. After using Expose and ?-tab I think Windows' or Ubuntu's alt-tab is better.

• AIX 7.1 su root password bug?

  In our AIX 7.1 machine there is a weird bug we've ran into.. If you are logged into the AIX box via SSH as a regular user and you try to su - you get prompted for the password, lets say our password is "P@$$w0rd23", you can type "P@$$w0rd2ANYTHING" and it will still grant you root. As long as you have "P@$$w0rd2" it will grant you root regardless of what else you specify in the authentication and even though the actual password is "P@$$w0rd23". This seems to be a bug? Anyone see anything like this before? Thanks.

Before answering: sudo rm -rf /whateverthetimemachineis does not work Disabling the ACL permissions first with sudo fsaclctl -p /whatever -d does not work, sudo: fsaclctl: command not found Use the delete all backup feature in Time Machine... this is slow as hell, would take days. Need a command line solution. No I don't want to reformat the drive, I have other content on it, and no don't say I should have separated on two partition or two drives, I did it this say since partitions cannot be dynamically changed, and two drives is annoying since, whats the point of having a big drive?... plus has no relation to the issue at hand. Already googlied for hours and read everything on Super User, nothing working. and all solutions are the first 4. Any clues?

  I'm a developer and am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu): I'm wondering what the "best practices dictate" for what FHS directories to install various tools to. Things I'll be installing: Eclipse & plugins GlassFish SVN ...etc. I see that /opt is for holding additional ("optional") software packages, but also see /usr as a place for utils and apps. In another post a user recommended I create an entire partition for /srv alone, and to do my staging there (I assume he meant that /srv is where GlassFish and other servers should go?). So basically: what FHS directories do Linux developers use for which type of tools? Thanks for any input here

  I'm running CentOS 6.x and want to move the .bash_history to a different location. The home directories of my users are (because I run a VPS) in /var/www/vhost/<domain>.<tld> which is FTP accessible (and it should be). Because of this, I have changed the AuthorizedKeysFile for SSH connections out of the normal ~/.ssh/authorized_keys since FTP connections would easily be able to locate them. At the same time I want to move the .bash_history file to /home/%u/.bash_history where %u is the current user.

• FTP Error 550 when trying to access a folder via symbolic link

  I'm configuring svftp on a linux machine. At the moment local users can login via ftp and they will see listened their home dir. They have write acces to it. No I want the users to write in de /var/www/ dir. Therefore I created an new group apache. Added users to the group and gave the group write access to /var/www. Via the terminal all users can write .var/www/. I created a link in the home directory to /var/www via ln -s /var/www/ /home/user/www ls gives: drwxr-xr-x 2 orangetux orangetux 4096 Jun 23 15:06 ftp lrwxrwxrwx 1 orangetux orangetux 21 Jun 23 15:00 www -> /var/www/ But when I use FTP I see the link but I cannot follow it. Error 550 which means file not found or bad access. How can I solve this, so that the users have access to /var/www via their home dir?
