Virtualbox errors out when creating or opening VM

I installed Virtual-box about a week ago and now every time I either try to start a VM or create a new one I get the error listed below. I am in the vboxusers group. I completely uninstalled and re-installed the application without any change in the error. When I run the command below I receive "command not found". Then when I try to install dkms they systems says it is already installed. Right now I have removed the application and any files and would love to re-install the application again to get it working. I remove the application using: sudo apt-get remove virtualbox* --purge Any ideas? Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. Best Practice for upgrading PHP On Production Systems

We Have two load balanced web servers running php 5.3. I've been asked by our dev team to upgrade php to 5.4 because they need certain functionality it will bring. The main issue is that 5.3 is the latest thats been built into the distros repository, so to upgrade using the package manager, Ill need to add another 3rd party repo. I dont have a problem with this per se, but Im concerned about using a package from a "non official" source. The other option is to compile php from source, but I guess this will prevent me from using the package manager to upgrade at any stage in the future? So I guess Im just looking for some guidance on which way to go. Compile from source or install from any old repo that purports to supply php 5.4? Or perhaps theres a third option I havent considered? Thanks in advance Demic

Upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 now no network access

A few weeks ago I decided I should enter the Linux world and read that Ubuntu is the most widely used release. I installed version 11.10 and it worked perfectly. Just this past week I decided I would do the upgrade to 12.04. The upgrade process itself worked fine. However, when I logged in I no longer had a network connection. I am running an AMD-based PC with a D-LINK DFE-530TXS network card and as I said, it worked fine in 11.10. I have scoured the Internet and come across a thousand slightly varying solutions, but they are too convoluted for someone new to Linux. Not because I can't follow the steps, but because most of the tools/utilities that are referenced (e.g. to compile, install, etc.) are not available when I use the stated steps in the solutions. So....should I re-install 11.10 or is there hope in getting this version to use the NIC that I know works. I have the latest driver from d-link for my NIC but I have no idea how to 'install' it for Ubuntu 12.04 to use. I know you will require additional information, but I wasn't sure what you would need. Thanks in advance.

trying to copy security groups to a user using dsmod group utility in AD

trouble installing mercurial 1.5 on os x 10.5.8 (without using MacPorts)

i'm having trouble installing mercurial 1.5 (build 20100307) from the prebuilt installer on os x 10.5.8. the installer is halting telling me that i need to install python 2.6 to continue. i've installed the latest version of python (2.6.5) twice now but its not helping. which python is reporting /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python, but i can see that i also have 2.3 and 2.5 in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions directory, which i suspect is being picked up by the installer ahead of the 2.6 install. if possible i'd like to install mercurial and python without having to resort to MacPorts, but if that is the only option then so be it :)

Allowing ssh in iptables

I am doing iptables firewall configuration. Actually, I need to allow ssh connection only from particular IP. But, It is blocking the ssh connection. But it is creating noarch rpm with 2MB size, but my source is greater than 2MB size. Its also did not attach files with this. I think i have a problem in spec file. How do I block my ISP from framing websites?

I've noticed recently, as of today, that all the websites I visit (except for a specific few sites such as Google) are all put into a frame. I'm not sure what the reason for this is, there are no ads displayed and everything appears normal. The only reason I found out is because the headers weren't loading correctly and none of the page titles showed up properly - I quickly checked the source code and saw that instead of the source of the page I was expecting to see, there was a single line with a frame. I first thought maybe somekind of trojan, but after going through various checks I've determined it's my ISP and/or somekind of Internet Registry (I traced the IP shown in the source code) What can be done to prevent this frame, short of using a VPN? I feel like I am being spied on. PS: I'm located in South Korea.

The [2] table entry '[3]' has no associated entry in the Media table. (error 2602)

Coworker started getting the above message in the event log and as dialog during install. Argument [2] was File and argument [3] was a specific file. Error dialog read Product: (app name) -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2602. Package was a vendor-provided MSI that had been installed administratively, and then a patch (.msp) applied to the administrative install point. With some digging we found that the MSI still had the entries in the media table pointing at the CAB files, and that there were several files at the end of the sequence that did not have corresponding entries in the Media table (last sequence 990 in Media table, last entry in File table had sequence 994). Attributes on files in the File table all had the msidbFileAttributesCompressed (&16384) attribute set, so they were all expecting to be within the CAB files, but since this was an admin install there were no CAB files. Resolved by clearing the Media table (replace with a single entry: Disk ID 1, LastSequence 994) and going through the file table and subtracting 8192 from each entry to mark files as not compressed. Tested and worked.

Windows 8: How to Lock (not sleep) laptop on lid close?

If my laptop is connected to power source and is not configured to sleep on lid close (it is connected to power source and is working, i don't want it to sleep. It's compiling my code) if i close the lid, laptop will do nothing. This works as expected, but actually if i have my laptop connected to power source in the office it will be good to lock it if i close a lid. So no one can just open the lid and see my unlocked desktop. I searched google and it says thet correct use case is to manually lock laptop via Win + L every time before lid is closed. This is ok, but not very secure - after all, i can forget Win + L. Is t any easy way (maybe some registry value or app) to configure windows laptop so it will lock on lid close even without sleep? Of course i can write app / powershell script for this task, but this is not suitable for non-programmers end users.

How to exchange the HDD of a MacBook Pro?

I've bought an Solid State Drive (SSD) for my MacBook Pro, and now I need to exchange it somehow. Would this strategy work? 1) Create an backup with Time Machine (Snow Leopard) 2) Then replace the old HDD 3) Insert the new HDD 4) Install Snow Leopard (same version as previously used) 5) Open up Time Machine, and recover from the last backup I'm not sure about how to do the last part. Is that hard? What are the neccessary steps? Or is there a better way? Maybe I don't need to re-install Snow Leopard completely? Maybe the Install CD already offers an option to recover from Backup?

Own DataFormWebPart: Unable to display this Web Part.

Hi, What I want is to display a paginable list from my custom data source. All came from the fact that I needed some logical relationships between seach scopes and some dates. I considered ContentQueryWebpart, but CAML is too complicated as I have plenty of different conditions, CoreResults webpart is too limited as it uses KeyWordQuery so I inherited from DataFormWebPart to display my own custom search results from my own custom xml source. Thats the best way i am aware of... I knew I needed some configuration to write in my pageLayout like MyWebParts:MyCustomWebPart etc so I went to Designer, put DataFormWebPart on a page, linked it to list of pages, and set multiple item view and that gave me some configuration.. Firstly i checked if DataFormWebPart works when put on pageLayout and it sucessfully displayed my pages list in pages library. But that was not what I wanted, i needed to set my own XML data source... I then changed the configuration of WebPartPages:DataFormWebPart to match mine and detach from any listName or listId and I change the XSL tag to much simplier to display all results and now I am getting: Unable to display this Web Part. datagrid height issue in nested datagrid( when using three data grid)

Python - pyparsing unicode characters

Hi..:) I tried using w = Word(printables), but it isn't working. How should I give the spec for this. 'w' is meant to process Hindi characters (UTF-8) The code specifies the grammar and parses accordingly. 671.assess :: ????? ::2 x=number + "." + src + "::" + w + "::" + number + "." + number If there is only english characters it is working so the code is correct for the ascii format but the code is not working for the unicode format. I mean that the code works when we have something of the form 671.assess :: ahsaas ::2 i.e. it parses words in the english format, but I am not sure how to parse and then print characters in the unicode format. Installing Rails, MySQL, etc. everything goes wrong

I've been struggling with this for a few hours. Everything just stopped working and I can't get it to work anymore. I'm a noob at Ruby, Ruby on Rails and the Terminal in general. This is really frustrating me so I just try to describe my problem as detailed as possible hoping someone can give me a solution. I'm on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I couldn't get Rails working at all just now: Could not find gem 'rails' headaches But after some tries of reinstalling it, it suddenly worked again. But now I just can't get MySQL to work, and it sometimes even breaks the Rails installation again. This is what I do: sudo gem uninstall rails sudo gem uninstall mysql sudo gem uninstall mysql2 After these commands, I check the installed gems with gem list. No MySQL gem is listed anymore, but I can still see rails (2.3.5, 2.2.2, 1.2.6) . Is this normal? Does this mean I have 3 Rails installations? It doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, then I do this: sudo gem clean Which fails completely. I get a bunch of errors like this: Attempting to uninstall fcgi-0.8.7 Unable to uninstall fcgi-0.8.7: Gem::InstallError: cannot uninstall, check gem list -d fcgi It doesn't uninstall anything. At this point, I try to install everything again. I start with: sudo gem install rails Which succeeds (I think): Successfully installed rails-3.0.3 Successfully installed builder-2.1.2 2 gems installed Installing ri documentation for rails-3.0.3... File not found: lib Then, I update RubyGems: sudo gem update --system sudo gem install rubygems-update sudo update_rubygems Then it says I have 1.3.7 installed, so it succeeded, I think. So now I proceed with installing MySQL. I already got MySQL 5.5.8 installed on my machine. I did some research about installing MySQL on Snow Leopard, and it seems I have to use this command: sudo env ARCHFLAGS="-arch x86_64" gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config I get a bunch of errors like this: No definition for time_set_neg No definition for time_set_second_part No definition for time_equal No definition for error_errno At this point, I assume I got both Rails and the MySQL gem installed, so I try to start a new project. rails new user_group -d mysql It works! Rails is installed correctly. Now, I try generating a model. cd user_group rails generate model User It fails with this error: Could not find gem 'mysql2 (= 0, runtime)' in any of the gem sources listed in your Gemfile. Try running bundle install. So I try running bundle install. It installs a lot of gems. Then I try to generate my model again. I get this error: Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql2-0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle: dlopen(/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql2-0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle, 9): Library not loaded: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (LoadError) Referenced from: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql2-0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle Reason: image not found - /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql2-0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle This is as far as I can get. ObjectContext.SaveChanges() fails with SQL CE

I am creating a model-first Entity Framework 4 app that uses SQL CE as its data store. All is well until I call ObjectContext.SaveChanges() to save changes to the entities in the model. Unknown error sourcing a script containing 'typeset -r' wrapped in command substitution

I wish to source a script, print the value of a variable this script defines, and then have this value be assigned to a variable on the command line with command substitution wrapping the source/print commands. This works on ksh88 but not on ksh93 and I am wondering why. $ cat typeset_err.ksh #!/bin/ksh unset _typeset_var typeset -i -r _typeset_var=1 DIR=init # this is the variable I want to print When run on ksh88 (in this case, an AIX 6.1 box), the output is as follows: $ A=$(. ./typeset_err.ksh; print $DIR) $ echo $A init When run on ksh93 (in this case, a Linux machine), the output is as follows: $ A=$(. ./typeset_err.ksh; print $DIR) -ksh: _typeset_var: is read only $ print $A ($A is undefined) The above is just an example script. The actual thing I wish to accomplish is to source a script that sets values to many variables, so that I can print just one of its values, e.g. $DIR, and have $A equal that value. I do not know in advance the value of $DIR, but I need to copy files to $DIR during execution of a different batch script. Therefore the idea I had was to source the script in order to define its variables, print the one I wanted, then have that print's output be assigned to another variable via $(...) syntax. Admittedly a bit of a hack, but I don't want to source the entire sub-script in the batch script's environment because I only need one of its variables. The typeset -r code in the beginning is the error. The script I'm sourcing contains this in order to provide a semaphore of sorts--to prevent the script from being sourced more than once in the environment. (There is an if statement in the real script that checks for _typeset_var = 1, and exits if it is already set.) So I know I can take this out and get $DIR to print fine, but the constraints of the problem include keeping the typeset -i -r. In the example script I put an unset in first, to ensure _typeset_var isn't already defined. By the way I do know that it is not possible to unset a typeset -r variable, according to ksh93's man page for ksh. There are ways to code around this error. The favorite now is to not use typeset, but just set the semaphore without typeset (e.g. _typeset_var=1), but the error with the code as-is remains as a curiosity to me, and I want to see if anyone can explain why this is happening. By the way, another idea I abandoned was to grep the variable I need out of its containing script, then print that one variable for $A to be set to; however, the variable ($DIR in the example above) might be set to another variable's value (e.g. DIR=$dom/init), and that other variable might be defined earlier in the script; therefore, I need to source the entire script to make sure I all variables are defined so that $DIR is correctly defined when sourcing.

I need some help in bison grammar construction. From my another question: I'm trying to make a meta-language for writing markup code (such as xml and html) wich can be directly embedded into C/C++ code. Inside the wdi source it is not necessary to use prints, every return statement will be used for output (in printf function). The program's output will be clean html code. Algorithm to select groups of similar items in 2d array

There is a 2d array of items (in my case they are called Intersections). A certain item is given as a start. The task is to find all items directly or indirectly connected to this item that satisfy a certain function. So the basic algorithm is like this: Add the start to the result list. Repeat until no modification: Add each item in the array that satisfies the function and touches any item in the result list to the result list. The bigger A and B groups are connected, but A does not related to B so they are returned as separate groups.

Improve heavy work in a loop in multithreading

I have a little problem with my data processing. public void ParseDetails() { for (int i = 0; i < mListAppInfo.Count; ++i) { ParseOneDetail(i); } } For 300 records, it usually takes around 13-15 minutes. I've tried to improve by using Parallel.For() but it always stop at some point. public void ParseDetails() { Parallel.For(0, mListAppInfo.Count, i => ParseOneDetail(i)); } In method ParseOneDetail(int index), I set an output log for tracking the record id which is under processing. How to cleverly stop "while loop" (php)

I'm having trouble with creating code that echoes a bunch of stuff that is corresponding to the mysql database row. It needs to keep creating the content until all rows are used and then stop. But for some reason the php file causes the browser to keep loading (it never ends). Any help would be appreciated! apache fails to connect to tomcat (Worker config?)
