IS this correct? Because the error is showing and am not sure why. • Findbugs and comparing

  I recently started using the findbugs static analysis tool in a java build I was doing. The first report came back with loads of High Priority warnings. Being the obsessive type of person, I was ready to go knock them all out. However, I must be missing something. I get most of the warnings when comparing things. Such as the following code: public void setSpacesPerLevel(int value) { if( value >= 0) { ... produces a high priority warning at the if statement that reads. File: Indenter.java, Line: 60, Type: BIT_AND_ZZ, Priority: High, Category: CORRECTNESS Check to see if ((...) & 0) == 0 in sample.Indenter.setSpacesPerLevel(int) I am comparing an int to an int, seems like a common thing. I get quite a few of that type of error with similar simple comparisons. I have alot of other high priority warnings on what appears to be simple code blocks. Am I missing something here? I realize that static analysis can produce false positives, but the errors I am seeing seem too trivial of a case to be a false positive. This one has me scratching my head as well. for(int spaces = 0;spaces < spacesPerLevel;spaces++){... Which gives the following findbugs warning: File: Indenter.java, Line: 160, Type: IL_INFINITE_LOOP, Priority: High, Category: CORRECTNESS There is an apparent infinite loop in sample.Indenter.indent() This loop doesn't seem to have a way to terminate (other than by perhaps throwing an exception). Any ideas? So basically I have a handful of files and 50-60 high priority warnings similar to the ones above. I am using findbugs 1.3.9 and calling it from the findbugs ant task

• CSS - vertical align text where text can be multiple lines

  Hi all I've been given a design by a graphic designer, which I'm trying to put into HTML and CSS. One of the issues I'm facing is on a user input form. In the design the labels for each input are a fixed width - say 100px. The container for each label/input pair is fixed at 2em. The design I've been given has asked that the text for each label is vertically aligned. So the structure is like this: <containerTag> <label /> <input /> </containerTag> No problems as long as the text is on one line (I would have just used line-height of 2em to match the container), but some of the text in the labels are wrapping to two or even lines. Is there a semantic and nice way to get around this problem? I need something that will work in IE6-9, Firefox 3.5+, Chrome and Safari. Although I am using progressive enhancement, so if there is a solution that will only work on the later browsers, but won't break the older ones, then this would be acceptable.   My aim is to execute an external executable in my program. First, I used system() function, but I don't want the console to be seen to the user. So, I searched a bit, and found CreateProcess() function. However, when I try to pass a parameter to it, I don't know why, it fails. • How to pass common arguments to Perl modules

  I'm not thrilled with the argument-passing architecture I'm evolving for the (many) Perl scripts that have been developed for some scripts that call various Hadoop MapReduce jobs. There are currently 8 scripts (of the form run_something.pl) that are run from cron. (And more on the way ... we expect anywhere from 1 to 3 more for every function we add to hadoop.) Each of these have about 6 identical command-line parameters, and a couple command line parameters that are similar, all specified with Euclid. The implementations are in a dozen .pm modules. Some of which are common, and others of which are unique.... Currently I'm passing the args globally to each module ... Inside run_something.pl I have: set_common_args (%ARGV); set_something_args (%ARGV); And inside Something.pm I have sub set_something_args { (%MYARGS) =@_; } So then I can do if ( $MYARGS{'--needs_more_beer'} ) { $beer++; } I'm seeing that I'm probably going to have additional "common" files that I'll want to pass args to, so I'll have three or four set_xxx_args calls at the top of each run_something.pl, and it just doesn't seem too elegant. On the other hand, it beats passing the whole stupid argument array down the call chain, and choosing and passing individual elements down the call chain is (a) too much work (b) error-prone (c) doesn't buy much. In lots of ways what I'm doing is just object-oriented design without the object-oriented language trappings, and it looks uglier without said trappings, but nonetheless ... Anyone have thoughts or ideas?

• How to prevent the other threads from accessing a method when one thread is accessing a method?

  I want to search for a string in 10 files and write the matching lines to a single file. I wrote the matching lines from each file to 10 output files(o/p file1,o/p file2...) and then copied those to a single file using 10 threads. But the output single file has mixed output(one line from o/p file1,another line from o/p file 2 etc...) because its accessed simultaneously by many threads. If I wait for all threads to complete and then write the single file it will be much slower. I want the output file to be written by one thread at a time. What should i do?   I'm trying to remove the 2nd commit to a repo. At this point I could just blow away the .git dir and re-do it, but I'm curious how to do this... • Comparing strings that contain formatting in C#

  I'm working on a function that given some settings - such as line spacing, the output (in string form) is modified. In order to test such scenarios, I'm using string literals, as shown below for the expected result. The method, using a string builder, (AppendLine) generates the said output. One issue I have run into is that of comparing such strings. In the example below, both are equal in terms of what they represent. The result is the area which I care about, however when comparing two strings, one literal, one not, equality naturally fails. This is because one of the strings emits line spacing, while the other only demonstrates the formatting it contains. What would be the best way of solving this equality problem? I do care about formatting such as new lines from the result of the method, this is crucially important. • identifier ... is undefined when trying to run pure C code in Cuda using nvcc

  I'm new and learning Cuda. A approach that I'm trying to use to learn is to write code in C and once I know its working start converting it to Cuda since I read that nvcc compiles Cuda code but complies everything else using plain old c. My code works in c(using gcc) but when I try to compile it using nvcc(after changing the file name from main.c to main.cu) I get main.cu(155): error: identifier "num_of_rows" is undefined main.cu(155): error: identifier "num_items_in_row" is undefined 2 errors detected in the compilation of "/tmp/tmpxft_00002898_00000000-4_main.cpp1.ii". Basically in my main method I send data to a function like this: process_list(count, countListItem, list); the first two items are ints and the last item(list) is a matrix. Then I create my function like this: void process_list(int num_of_rows, int num_items_in_row, int current_list[num_of_rows][num_items_in_row]) { This line is where I get my errors when using nvcc(line 155). I need to convert this code to cuda anyway so no need to troubleshoot this specific issue(plus code is quite large) but I'm wondering if I'm wrong about nvcc treating the C part of your code like plain C. In the book cuda by example I just used nvcc to compile but do I need any extra flags when just using pure c?

• Using awk to return only certain chunks of data

  I'm not 100% certain how to phrase my question simply, so I apologize if this has been answered somewhere and I was just unable to find it. What I have are debug logs with authentication packets in them along with a bunch of other output. I need to search through about 2 million lines of logs to find every packet that contains a certain mac address. The packets look something like this (slightly censored): -----------------[ header ]----------------- Event: Authd-Response (1900) Sequence: -54 Timestamp: 1969-12-31 19:30:00 (0) ---------------[ attributes ]--------------- Auth-Result = Auth-Accept Service-Profile-SID = 53 Service-Profile-SID = 49 RADIUS-Access-Accept-Attr/WiMAX-Capability = 0x(numbers) Session-Timeout = 3600 Service-Profile-SID = 4 Service-Profile-SID = 29 Chargeable-User-Identity = "(Numbers)" User-Password = "(the MAC address I'm looking for)" -------------------------------------------- However there are about 10 different possible types with different possible lengths. They all start with the header line and end with the all-dashes line. I've had success using awk to get the code blocks themselves using this: awk '/-----------------\[ header \]-----------------/,/--------------------------------------------/' filename.txt But I was hoping to be able to use it to return only the packets which contain the MAC address that I need. I've been trying to figure this out for a few days now and I'm pretty stuck. I could try and write a bash script, but I could swear that I've used awk to do something like this before...

• What makes you trust that a piece of open source software is not malicious?

  We developers are in a unique position when it comes to the ability to not only be skeptical about the capabilities provided by open source software, but to actively analyze the code since it is freely available. In fact, one may even argue that open source software developers have a social responsibility to do so to contribute to the community. But at what point do you as a developer say, "I better take a look at what this is doing before I trust using it" for any given thing? Is it a matter of trusting code with your personal information? Does it depend on the source you're getting it from? What spurred this question on was a post on Hacker News to a javascript bookmarklet that supposedly tells you how "exposed" your information on Facebook is as well as recommending some fixes. I thought for a second "I'd rather not start blindly running this code over all my (fairly locked down) Facebook information so let me check it out". The bookmarklet is simple enough, but it calls another javascript function which at the time (but not anymore) was highly compressed and undecipherable. That's when I said "nope, not gonna do it". So even though I could have verified the original uncompressed javascript from the Github site and even saved a local copy to verify and then run without hitting their server, I wasn't going to. It's several thousand lines and I'm not a total javascript guru to begin with. Yet, folks are using it anyway. Even (supposedly) bright developers. What makes them trust the script? Did they all scrutinize it line by line? Do they know the guy personally and trust him not to do anything bad? Do they just take his word? What makes you trust that a piece of open source software is not malicious?

• HTML, CSS: overbar matching square root symbol

  Is there a way in HTML and/or CSS to do the following, but then correctly: √¯¯¯¯¯¯φ·(2π−γ) Such that there is an overbar above the expression, which neatly aligns with the &radic;? I know there is the Unicode &macr;, that looks like the overbar I need (as used in the above example, though as you can see – it doesn't align well with the root symbol). The solution I'm looking for works at least for one standard font, on most sizes, and all modern browsers. I can't use images; I'd like to have a pure HTML4/CSS way, without client scripting. Here is my current code, thank you Matthew Jones (+1) for the text-decoration: overline! Still some problems <div style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 200%"> <span style="vertical-align: -15%;">&radic;</span><span style="text-decoration: overline;">&nbsp;x&nbsp;+&nbsp;1&nbsp;</span> </div> The line doesn't match the &radic; because I lowered it with 15% baseline height. The line is not executing at all, and hence the data is not being inserted into the database. What has gone wrong?? The 'values' are null.

• Problem with incomplete input when using Attoparsec

  I am converting some functioning Haskell code that uses Parsec to instead use Attoparsec in the hope of getting better performance. I have made the changes and everything compiles but my parser does not work correctly. I am parsing a file that consists of various record types, one per line. Each of my individual functions for parsing a record or comment works correctly but when I try to write a function to compile a sequence of records the parser always returns a partial result because it is expecting more input. These are the two main variations that I've tried. Both have the same problem. items :: Parser [Item] items = sepBy (comment <|> recordType1 <|> recordType2) endOfLine For this second one I changed the record/comment parsers to consume the end-of-line characters. items :: Parser [Item] items = manyTill (comment <|> recordType1 <|> recordType2) endOfInput Is there anything wrong with my approach? Is there some other way to achieve what I am attempting?

• Task Queue stopped working

  I was playing with Goole App Engine Task Queue API to learn how to use it. But I couldn't make it trigger locally. My application is working like a charm when I upload to Google servers. But it doesn't trigger locally. All I see from the admin is the list of the tasks. But when their ETA comes, they just pass it. It's like they runs but they fails and waiting for the retries. But I can't see these events on command line. When I try to click "Run" on admin panel, it runs successfuly and I can see these requests from the command line. I'm using App Engine SDK 1.3.4 on Linux with google-app-engine-django. I'm trying to find the problem from 3 hours now and I couldn't find it. It's also very hard to debug GAE applications. Because debug messages do not appear on console screen. Thanks.

• Glassfish: Storing Java classes in the docroot folder?

  I'm very new to using Glassfish or JSP. I have this working in NetBeans (which has Glassfish bundled) but when I try to put it on my server which is running Glassfish Server, I really don't know what I'm doing. I can place a JSP file in "domains/domain1/docroot/index.jsp" and it will work when I visit my site, but I can't, for some reason, get Java classes to work. I copied the files in "/build/web/" from the NetBeans project to the docroot folder on my server. The errors I get when I visit the site are: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: PWC6033: Error in Javac compilation for JSP PWC6199: Generated servlet error: string:///index_jsp.java:7: package test does not exist PWC6197: An error occurred at line: 5 in the jsp file: /index.jsp PWC6199: Generated servlet error: string:///index_jsp.java:52: cannot find symbol symbol : class TestClass location: class org.apache.jsp.index_jsp PWC6197: An error occurred at line: 5 in the jsp file: /index.jsp PWC6199: Generated servlet error: string:///index_jsp.java:52: cannot find symbol symbol : class TestClass location: class org.apache.jsp.index_jsp The actual Java class is in "WEB-INF/classes/test/TestClass.class" (it is pre-compiled). • Constructor and Destructors in C++ work?

  I am using gcc. Please tell me if I am wrong - Lets say I have two classes A & B class A { public: A(){cout<<"A constructor"<<endl;} ~A(){cout<<"A destructor"<<endl;} }; class B:public A { public: B(){cout<<"B constructor"<<endl;} ~B(){cout<<"B destructor"<<endl;} }; 1) The first line in B's constructor should be a call to A's constructor ( I assume compiler automatically inserts it). Also the last line in B's destructor will be a call to A's destructor (compiler does it again). Why was it built this way? 2) When I say A * a = new B(); compiler creates a new B object and checks to see if A is a base class of B and if it is it allows 'a' to point to the newly created object. I guess that is why we don't need any virtual constructors. ( with help from @Tyler McHenry , @Konrad Rudolph) 3) When I write delete a compiler sees that a is an object of type A so it calls A's destructor leading to a problem which is solved by making A's destructor virtual. As user - Little Bobby Tables pointed out to me all destructors have the same name destroy() in memory so we can implement virtual destructors and now the call is made to B's destructor and all is well in C++ land. Please comment.

  I have a win32 solution which is set for openGL; it works well; but I want to write a function which use functions of openCV; I set the configuration for openCV for both X86 and X64;;I commented the openCV function and just to test the correctness of configuration, I run it; but when I want to run it on X64 I faced with the error below: Error 1 error C2065: 'GWL_HINSTANCE' : undeclared identifier D:\matrix\matrixProjection\src\ControllerMain.cpp 35 1 matrixProjection Error 2 error C2664: 'CreateDialogParamW' : cannot convert parameter 4 from 'BOOL (__cdecl *)(HWND,UINT,WPARAM,LPARAM)' to 'DLGPROC' D:\matrix\matrixProjection\src\DialogWindow.cpp 47 1 matrixProjection Error 2 points to this line of code: HWND DialogWindow::create() { /*-->this line*/ handle = ::CreateDialogParam(instance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(id), parentHandle, Win::dialogProcedure, (LPARAM)controller); return handle; } but on Debug Win32 configure, it runs; I used openGL32 in my project; is there any probability to be the cause? is there any X64 version for openGL? I know that there is something needed in X64 mode which my solution can not handle it; I googled a lot about it but I did not find any solution; How can I solve that?
