  • Microsoft Management Console stops working when I add snap-in to it

    I have Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I'm opening mmc.exe as administrator and trying add Certificates or any other snap-in, then while loading that snap-in MMC breaks and displays following message and after that it closes automatically once I click on close button on that message. What could be the problem?     Hi, I'd like to see a timeline of events from a database in a "timeline chart", that should look like this: http://i46.tinypic.com/sw3dj5.png - I've made me a small c# program that paints this onto a Bitmap, but that isn't the way to go. I have input data that has 3 fields: StartX EndX Y 2596 15008 1 5438 6783 2 5450 5453 4 5456 5459 4 5462 5466 4 5470 5474 4 5477 5657 5 5662 5665 4 5668 5671 4 As the picture shows, for each line I'd like to have a line from StartX to EndX with a Y value of Y. Stacked bar chart almost solves my problem, but I don't want to have a new line on the chart for every row, I have thousands of rows and I'd like to have X axis as the time axis, and view which events (Y is the type of the event) happened simultaneously. The image ( http://i46.tinypic.com/sw3dj5.png) I've generated with a simple C# program shows that the event SYSTEM was active all the time, and the events TECH and BREAK were almost exclusive, but had some overlaps. I'd like to at least know the correct direction which I should take; I'm lost in the multitude of Excel chart types. Thanks.

    We have an RHEL5 server that I'm trying to install PHP-Mcrypt on and I'm stuck when I tried to run ./configure for mcrypt source files. The test program compiled, but did not run. This usually means that the run-time linker is not finding LIBMCRYPT or finding the wrong version of LIBMCRYPT. If it is not finding LIBMCRYPT, you'll need to set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or edit /etc/ld.so.conf to point to the installed location Also, make sure you have run ldconfig if that is required on your system If you have an old version installed, it is best to remove it, although you may also be able to get things to work by modifying LD_LIBRARY_PATH configure: error: * libmcrypt was not found I also made a file at /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libmcrypt.conf with /usr/local/libmcrypt in it and ran /sbin/ldconfig I might have screwed things up by trying to reinstall libmcrypt without the configure arguments.   • Toshiba Portege M400 screen rotation not working under Windows 7 x64

    I have installed Windows 7 on my Toshiba Portege M400. This in itself was relatively tricky.* However, the button utilities aren't quite working for me. One of the buttons tries to launch the Toshiba Assist program, which doesn't appear to be available under Windows 7 for the M400, but this I can live without. More important is that the screen won't rotate as it is supposed to when you hold the "cancel" (X in a circle) button on the bezel. The PC is set to run "C:\Program Files (x860\Toshiba\Toshiba Rotation Utility\phtrot.exe". There is a "trot.exe" file in the same directory (the former appears to be to cause slightly different behaviour when rotation is done by press and hold). Neither of these programs rotates the screen either by using the buttons or from the command line. The screen is rotating normally when switching from tablet to laptop mode, so there does not appear to be an inherent problem with rotation. I'd just like to be able to use the buttons on the side of the screen to change the screen orientation. Windows XP used to have a "setrot" utility to do this, but that seems to have gone in Windows 7 Thanks for your help. *Just in case anyone comes looking for how to do this, you need to extract driver files from http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/util_raid_os2007252a.exe, which does not seem to be listed among the available files for the m400. This executable contains the SATA interface drivers that will need to be loaded by the installer before it can see your hard disk drive. It needs to be unpacked and the files copied to a USB key which they can then be loaded from in the install process. The utilities etc. for installation post windows install are all available from the Toshiba USA support website.

Below font size 13, alternate font sizes are rendered in an aliased, ugly manner. The same Arch installation has no problem rendering Monaco font when running under xfce. some of the characters even look completely different. I tried tweaking my .fonts.conf, but no luck.

    I'm trying to install MSSQL 2000 on a virtual Windows 2003 instance. However, every time I run the install program, it fails to start the service.   • Side-By-Side Configuration Error VC90.CRT

    I keep receiving the following error when trying to run MikTeX 2.8 or Visual Studio 2008 on 64-Bit Windows Vista. It's particularly odd because both programs were working problem free until a few days ago. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. Opening the Application log provides the following information: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.8\miktex\bin\texworks.exe". Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.8\miktex\bin\Microsoft.VC90.CRT.MANIFEST" on line 4. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.30729.4148". Definition is Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.30729.1". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis. It looks like the problem is with Microsoft.VC90.CRT.MANIFEST, but I am not sure why or how to fix this problem. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Visual Studio and MikTeX, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling Microsoft's C++ Redistributable, but nothing seems to be fixing this problem.

  • Firefox 3.5.6 causes entire computer to freeze

    Here's the situation: Environment: Just installed a fresh copy of Win7 Pro 32-bit to NTFS partition on 750GB SATA drive Hardware: E8400 3GHz ASUS P5QL Pro 4GB DDR2 1066 RAM EVGA 9800 GTX+ Plenty of cooling, no problems with hardware before Data is stored on a separate partition, including My Documents No security software is yet installed No extensions installed yet Problem: While using Firefox, sometimes the entire computer will freeze/hang. I get no mouse or keyboard input, can't CTRL+ALT+DEL, no "not responding" indication, just a static image on my display. My drivers are all up to date as far as I'm aware (I just installed this copy of Windows last week). I first noticed this when trying to install Xmarks. I went to the Xmarks site and tried to install and it would freeze. I managed to get it installed (Safe mode and the Mozilla addon site worked), but when I go to configure it (log in, etc), the computer freezes. I don't think it's a matter of usage time or memory issues, because while testing, I browsed wallpaper galleries for about 30 minutes, sometimes as many as 12-15 tabs open at a time, without issue. Sometimes I won't even try to install Xmarks at it will hang. I can install (some) other extensions, the only one I've tried is download status bar (which works). What I've done to try to fix: Restarted (duh) Windows safe mode Completely remove Firefox and install it to a new directory, according to Mozilla's KB (I haven't tried the profile manager, though I assume this does the same thing, except perhaps more thoroughly) Some BIOS changes, including Power options, disabling oveclocking (it was a modest overclock on the CPU, which has run Win7 beta and RC for almost a year now) Memtest Used another Windows user profile, same tragic results I'm STUCK now, with no idea what to do. I'm using Chrome as my main browser at the moment, but that's not something I want to be stuck with. I like Firefox and want to use it. I'm going to try creating a new profile first. One thing I did notice: I started leaving task manager and performance monitor open when anticipating (but dreading) a freeze. firefox.exe had low CPU and low memory, but it looked like overall disk usage was seeing some spikes on the small graph Performance Monitor gives you. I saw on one blog post a fellow using XP moved his Local Settings directory from a separate drive to his main drive, and that solved it, but I don't think my AppData directory is on my D: drive, and that's on the same physical device anyways. Still, something that might be worth trying. I'd extremely appreciate any help. Thanks very much. I really don't want to reinstall Windows from scratch again :( Anthony Aziz

    Does anyone know how to disable the unknown publisher security warning when running an application in Windows Xp Home? It's pretty annoying to have to click run everytime... I have tried: Run gpedit.msc, and go to Local Computer Policy-User Configuration-Administrative Templates-Windows Components-Attachment Manager and enable "Default risk level for file attachments", and then enable "Inclusion list for low risk file types" and add to this list the file extensions that you want to open without triggering this crap. But this file 'gpedit.msc' doest not exist on my computer, i checked system32 folder also =/ maybe its for xp pro

  • Dell Studio 15 Broadcom wireless drivers not working in Linux Mint

    I installed Linux Mint 12 on my Dell Studio 15 and everything worked perfectly up until I tried updating the STA Driver for the Broadcom (BCM4312) wireless controller. I've tried these bash commands in order and I still don't have wireless. sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer I've also tried uninstalling everything with synaptic package manager including broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source, then restarting and running the above commands which didn't work either. What's the best way to do this on a Dell Studio 15?

  • DPM 2010 PowerShell Script to Easily Restore Multiple Files

    I’ve got what I thought would be a simple task with Data Protection Manager 2010 that is turning out to be quite frustrating. I have a file server on one server and it is the only server in a protection group. This file server is the repository for a document management application which stores the files according to the data within a SQL database. Sometimes users inadvertently delete files from within our application and we need to restore them. We have all the information needed to restore the files to include the file name, the folder that the file was stored in and the exact date that the file was deleted. It is easy for me to restore the file from within the DPM console since we have a recovery point created every day, I simply go to the day before the delete, browse to the proper folder and restore the file. The problem is that using the DPM console, the cumbersome wizard requires about 20 mouse clicks to restore a single file and it takes 2-4 minutes to get through all the windows. This becomes very irritating when a client needs 100’s of files restored… it takes all day of redundant mouse clicks to restore the files. Therefore, I want to use a PowerShell script (and I’m a novice at PowerShell) to automate this process. I want to be able to create a script that I pass in a file name, a folder, a recovery point date (and a protection group/server name if needed) and simply have the file restored back to its original location with some sort of success/failure notification. I thought it was a simple basic task of a backup solution, but I am having a heck of a time finding the right code. I have seen the sample code at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/how-to-use-a-windows-powershell-script-to-recover-an-item-in-data-protection-manager.aspx that I have tried to follow, but it doesn’t accomplish what I really want to do (it’s too simplistic) and there are errors in the sample code. Therefore, I would like to get some help writing a script to restore these files. An example of the known values to restore the data are: DPM Server: BACKUP01 Protection Group: Document Repository Data Protected Server: FILER01 File Path: R:\DocumentRepository\ToBackup\ClientName\Repository\2010\07\24\filename.pdf Date Deleted: 8/2/2010 (last recovery point = 8/1/2010) Bonus Points: If you can help me not only create this script, but also show me how to automate by providing a text file with the above information that the PowerShell script loops through, or even better, is able to query our SQL server for the needed data, then I would be more than willing to pay for this development.
