• ASP.Net GridView Sorting

  I have a grid view with AllowSorting set to true. I get an event onsorting when a sortable header is clicked on. the handler has a parameter "GridViewSortEventArgs e" which has a SortDirection property on it. regardless of how many times you click on the same heading, the SortDirection is always Ascending. I think I'm missing something, like a way to tell the grid "now you are sorted based on column one and in ascending order", so that next time the grid sees a click on the "column one" heading, it decides to go descending. any help appreciated.   I just installed GNUstep on my Windows XP machine and I'm attempting to compile the following Objective-C Hello World program from the command line: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> int main(int argc, const char *argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSLog(@"Hello world\n"); [pool drain]; return 0; } When I try to compile the program from the command line like so gcc hello.m -o hello I end up getting the following error hello.m:1:34: Foundation/Foundation.h: No such file or directory Is there something I need to do order to inform the compiler of where the standard Objective-C libraries are located?

I figured out how to undo the last 2 changes: :1,$s/\(...\)\(...\)/\2\1/g :1,$s/\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)/\2\4\1\3/g I'd like you to explain me what do the first two regex do. What does \1 or \2\2\2 mean before the forward slash? I assume that after the slash they change place (but wouldn't it be enough to just write \2\1 instead of \2\2\2\1\2(what does it mean?)? I just don't get it). And what does & or && mean? Thank you

  I am rebuilding my development machine. This issue is not new to me, but I don't remember the solution. I started with VS 2008 Pro, then SQL 2008 Developer, then the SQL SP1, then VS SP1. The result is that I cannot open SSIS projects (see the error below). • Unix [Homework]: Get a list of /home/user/ directories in /etc/passwd

  I'm very new to Unix, and currently taking a class learning the basics of the system and its commands. I'm looking for a single command line to list off all of the user home directories in alphabetical order from the /etc/passwd directory. This applies only to the home directories, and not the contents within them. There should be no duplicate entries. I've tried many permutations of commands such as the following: sort -d | find /etc/passwd /home/* -type -d | uniq | less I've tried using -path, -name, removing -type, using -prune, and changing the search pattern to things like /home/*/$, but haven't gotten good results once. At best I can get a list of my own directory (complete with every directory inside it, which is bad), and the directories of the other students on the server (without the contained directories, which is good). I just can't get it to display the /home/user directories and nothing else for my own account. Many thanks in advance.

• WPF DataGrid: How to reset column width when applying new ItemsSource

  I am using a DataGrid to display details of an item selected in a ListBox. The DataGrid has 3 columns set to Width="Auto". As different items in the ListBox are selected, the width of the columns in the DataGrid increase as needed in order to display the text. What I want is that the column widths also decrease when the extra width is not needed. An example. Column 1 normally contains a percent value. However, in some cases it contains a long error message which causes column 1 to widen and push columns 2 & 3 off the screen. When I switch to an item containing normal values, I want column 1 to regain its' normal width and for columns 2 & 3 to be visible again. What can I do to force the column widths to take the minimum size?

• Why not port Linux kernel to Common Lisp?

  Conventional wisdom states that OS kernels must be written in C in order to achieve the necessary levels of performance. This has been the justification for not using more expressive high level languages. However, for a few years now implementations of Common Lisp such as SBCL have proven to be just as performant as C. What then are the arguments against redoing the kernel in a powerfully expressive language, namely Common Lisp? I don't think anyone (at least anyone who knows what they are talking about) could argue against the fact that the benefits in transparency and readability would be tremendous, not to mention all the things that can't be done in C that can be done in Lisp, but there may be implementation details that would make this a bad idea.

• Setting a WebControls TabIndex based on the ControlId of another control

  I have an ASP.NET Webforms site that is regularly having features added. The majority of time a new WebControl is added to the page and I need to increment the TabIndex to all subsequent controls on the page. I'd prefer a more robust solution than choosing an arbitrary gap between the initial assigned tab indexes. Setting the tab indexes using the designer tab order functionality is one option but I'd prefer to stay in the source view. Ideally, if I had three check boxes I'd like to be able to define the tabindex based off the previous controls tabindex. • Load CoreData objects' string property into UIPickerView

  Hello Currently I have an entity named "Events" in a CoreData app. "Events" has one string property named "eventName". In the -(void)viewDidLoad I am trying to Fetch all the "Events" objects and load their "eventName" by alphabetical order into a UIPickerView. The ultimate end goal is through the use of a textField, buttons and the pickerView being add new objects in and remove unwanted objects out. Basically turning the UIPickerView into a UITableView. Currently I am able to save objects to the CoreData store, but am not able to pull them/their properties out into the UIPickerView. I am willing and able to share the project source code to anyone who wants it, or is willing to look at it to help out. thanks Chris

  Can I run a select statement and get the row number if the items are sorted? I have a table like this: mysql> describe orders; +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | orderID | bigint(20) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | itemID | bigint(20) unsigned | NO | | NULL | | +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ I can then run this query to get the number of orders by ID: SELECT itemID, COUNT(*) as ordercount FROM orders GROUP BY itemID ORDER BY ordercount DESC; This gives me a count of each itemID in the table like this: +--------+------------+ | itemID | ordercount | +--------+------------+ | 388 | 3 | | 234 | 2 | | 3432 | 1 | | 693 | 1 | | 3459 | 1 | +--------+------------+ I want to get the row number as well, so I could tell that itemID 388 is the first row, 234 is second, etc (essentially the ranking of the orders, not just a raw count). I know I can do this in java when I get the result set back, but I was wondering if there was a way to handle it purely in SQL.

• PropertyGrid PaintValue problem: How to remove (and paint outside) the standard rectangle?

  This might be a straightforward question, even though I haven't found an easy solution to it: I've implemented my custom UITypeEditor with the sole purpose of adding a PaintValue to bools. For the sake of the discussion, let's assume that PaintValue will either paint a checked or unchecked radiobutton. Question 1: Now, here's the problem: It seems like PaintValue automatically inserts a 20x13px rectangle after all paint code has completed. Naturally, a radiobutton inside a black rectangle is ugly. Can I easily instruct or override this rectagle not to be painted? Question 2: In this respect, is it possible to paint on top of the propertygrid's native look - meaning could I paint something in order to obscure (part of) the black line separating two grid cells vertically? The purpose of doing this would be to indicate that two values were linked, like constrained width/height to an aspect ratio.

• Consuming "Event Tracing for Windows" events

  An answer to this question has led me to look into using "Event Tracing for Windows" for our tracing needs. I have come across NTrace, which seems to be a good way to produce ETW events from C# code (using the XP-compatible "classic provider" model). However, I am unable to find an easy way to consume these events - to see them in real-time and/or log them to a file. The only way I have found is that described in the NTrace documentation: using a tool which is only available as part of the Windows DDK. In the case of a complex problem in the field, we may need to ask the user to produce a file containing a trace. We can't ask users to download the DDK or carry out a number of complex operations in order to do this. Is there a straightforward, user-friendly way to log ETW events to a file? Also, is it possible for someone to consume ETW events on Windows Vista/7 if they are not running as administrator?

  Hi all, I just started working using Google Maps API yesterday, and trying to set up drive directions to my map. My problem is: when I call the function load, [...] gdir = new GDirections(map, directionsPanel); [...] gdir.load("from: " + fromAddress + " to: " + toAddress); it returns a map whose markers are not draggable. The one thing crosses my mind is that, I can do anything I can do in ETL tools by using a software build tool. ETL tools are tailored for data loading and manipulation for which a lot of scripts are needed in order to do the job. Software build tool, on the other hand, is versatile enough to do any jobs, including writing scripts to extract, transform and load any data from any format into any format. Am I right?

I want to make sure the screen is used even if the height of the content is less than to fill the whole. (in other words minimum height of the content will be screen (height in pixel) - ( (height of header) + (height of footer) ) Now I can see that min-widht can be used but it is not supported with IE, how can I achieve this issue ?

When I retrieve the time series the list is composed of SQLDateTime entries that DateListPlot doesn't understand. • Controlling FPU behavior in an OpenMP program?

  I have a large C++ program that modifies the FPU control word (using _controlfp()). It unmasks some FPU exceptions and installs a SEHTranslator to produce typed C++ exceptions. I am using VC++ 9.0. I would like to use OpenMP (v.2.0) to parallelize some of our computational loops. I've already successfully applied it to one, but the numerical results are slightly different (though I understand it could also be due to calculations being performed in a different order). I'm assuming this is because the FPU state is thread-specific. Is there some way to have the OpenMP threads inherit that state from the master thread? Or is there some way to specify using OpenMP that new threads execute a particular function that sets up the correct state? What is the idiomatic way to deal with this situation?

  I've been trying to figure out what to focus on. I finally realized that the root of my quandary is that I am unsure about learning Linux server administration. I have been getting pretty good with PHP/MySQL and web development, but I am not very familiar with Linux. Is it hard to learn? What would I need to know in order to manage a LAMP stack? Also, which version is most used in enterprises? I think I have also hesitated to dive in because it seems like it is mostly used in small companies, but I guess that could be a good thing.

• Is learning the Caché database hard coming from relational databases and object oriented programming

  I am currently running the local version of Caché on my system in order to determine if I can (and will) take on a new possible project. The current project uses Delphi 7 as a front end calling a Caché dll where the business logic is stored in the database. I have a background of Sqlserver and Firebird (and before Access and Paradox) as databases. I use Delphi 7 for 95% of my Windows development, so I know about object programming. I would like to recieve opinions from persons having used Caché and either SqlServer, Firebird or Oracle and having developed in Delphi (or C++ or C# - an object oriented language). I have read the pro's and con's from other questions, but I am not asking for this, I need input from Caché developers. Thanks in advance.
