• Would this data requirement suit a Document -Oriented database?

  I have a requirement to allow users to fill in journal/diary entries per day. I want to provide a handful of known journal templates with x columns to fill in. An example might be a thought diary; a user has to record a thought in one column, describe the situation, rate how they felt etc. The other requirement is that a user should be able to create their own diary templates. They might have a need for a 10 column diary entry per day and might need to rate some aspect out of 50 instead of 10. In an RDBMS, I can see this getting quite complicated. I could have individual tables for my known templates as the fields will be fixed. But for custom diary templates I imagine I would would need a table storing custom_field_types (the diary columns), a table storing entries referencing their field types (custom_entries) and then a third custom_diary table which would store rows matching custom_entries to diaries. Leaving performance / scaling aside, would it be any simpler or make more sense to use a document oriented database like MongoDB to store this data? This is for a web application which might later need an API for mobile devices.

• Excel conditional selection?

  I think this is a simple question. I have a big table of data points and I want to take a an average of a subset of a single column. For example, if A is "age" and B is "gender," what command could I use to calculate the average age of women in my table? I know I can do this by sorting the table by column B and then only selecting column A values, but I want to build up to much more complicated conditional terms (e.g. if A is 5 and B is 3 and C is 4, then give me the average of D). • If I drop my clustered PK and add a new one, what order will my rows be in?

  In SQL Server, I'm looking at TableA, which currently has a uniqueidentifier clustered primary key. The GUID has no meaning in any context. (I'll give you a second to clean up your keyboard and monitor and set down the soda.) I'd like to drop that primary key and add a new unique integer primary key to the table. My question is this: when I drop the index, modify the column from uniqueidentifier to int, and add the new clustered unique primary key to the modified column, will the new PK values be in the order of insertion into the table, or will they be in some other order? Is this the right way to go here? Will this work? (I'm kind of a noobkin with regard to table creation/modification.)

  I am seeking a game server that will scale well. All commercial and/or free software alternatives are welcome. Game will be a boardgame that is similar to poker. Some technical details are listed below. There will be a table which consists of 4 people, to send them message I need a channel manager. A table will be ready to play for at least 5 minutes. There should be a reliable channel manager. People will wait for some time(i.e.) and if they are not playing they will be kicked by server, so there will be a reliable timed task queue to execute some tasks. It should be quick enough to response and show the changes to all 4 people on that table simultaneously.To achive this server should have a powerfull I/O library. I think to use inmemory to have quick response times, but it comes with scalability problems. And some variables should be thread safe so a variable should be thread safe between multiple nodes. Flash(AS3) and Unity (.Net 2.0 C# mono) client API's should be available for socket connection. PS: I am using Reddwarf server, it lacks of documentation and multiple node.

  I have difficulty making an Excel-readable file from a table on a Website. The problems very specific to my question are: I have to use IE 7 to access the site. Excel is installed in another computer. The site does not let me view the HTML of the table. Normally, I would simply select the table I want and drag and drop it to Excel. Or, I would view the page source and copy the HTML data. Both do not work in this case. Is there any handy tool out there?

• OOP Structure for web application

  Ok so I have a website in which users complete tasks to earn points. When they earn enough points, they rise in rank. The site from my understanding is very basic and only executes one query or two queries at most a page. There is a user table, a support ticket table, and an orders table. All of these contain a relational row for username. Our class was familiarized with OOP back in highschool with Java but that was for video games and I could grasp the concept on why you would need a class player and class enemy. However I don't understand it's web application. At least not in my situation. I understand the user class might contain stuff like: getUsername getPoints getEmail setEmail addPoints (does this belong here? OR only things the user can manipulate should be here?) etc.. But I'm at a loss with everything else such as user registration. Can you help give me a wire framework that I could wrap my head around? Pointing me to a good eBook would help greatly

  I've written a custom application indicator, which isn't working properly on saucy. The menu is initialised with a few items, then updates regularly, adding or removing menu items. This worked fine <13.10, but on 13.10, the line that adds the menu to the indicator produces the following warning: Warning: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.38.0/./gobject/gsignal.c:2475: signal 'child-added' is invalid for instance '0x24390e0' of type 'GtkMenu' self.ind.set_menu(self.menu) And the items added to the menu subsequently dont appear. A bug has been filed against several indicators for the same problem, but it's not clear to me whether this is a problem with the indicators as a result of an API change, or a bug in the GTK or Appindicator libraries. Does anyone know?

  I have several database tables that have a description column that I need to display in the UI. .Net has .resx files that will help with the translation of the strings, when the Thread.CurrentCulture.UICulture is set, but I needed a custom approach for the strings that are stored in the database and not in the .resx files. Here’s my approach: 1. Create a resource file for each database table and put them in the /Resources/Database/ directory. 2. Create a method in LocalizationHelpers (GetLocalizedString) that will get the string from the table for English (which should be cached to avoid unneeded service/database calls) or the resx when not English. 3. All database tables need to have a ResxKey field that matches the key in the resx file. 4. By convention the resx file will have the same name as the database table, and the key the same as the database ResxKey.   - if there are multiple columns that need translation, then one ResxKey will be used and Name or Description appended. • Destination host unreachable

  I have 2 router connected to 1 switch which contains two vlans, 1 router has the ip table of vlan1 and the other router have the ip table of vlan2 I have trunked both router cable to the switch. I have set 1 ip table per router which correspond to the ip address of the PC that have this router address as a gateway. When I ping from 192.168.100.2 to 192.168.200.2 it tells me that destination host is unreachable and the message is from the router 192.168.100.1. So I guess router for 192.168.100.x does not see the router for 192.168.200.x , right ? Or am I wrong ?   I want to create program which will be in use for few computers connected in local network. Basically the program aim is to keep track of all tables in a bar ( lets say ), which are reserved. When some user book a table as reserved the program should broadcast the table number to all other Pc's and mark the table as reserved. Since all computers use the same program, how is possible to create communication between all of them ? Should i use sockets to achieve this?   1) I've got a 30K row table. 2) When I run a long, 50-line query on that table, a GROUP function reduces the number of rows to 7K. 3) I want to export the grouped 7K rows as a new table, or save them as a CSV. When I attempt to export, instead of getting the grouped 7K rows, I get the old, pre-query 30K rows. What am I doing wrong, and what should I be doing?   I tryied to set the JAVA_HOME environmet variable in the ~/.profile file and I made a mistake JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_37" PATH=$JAVA_HOME:PATH the error is in the PATH referencing. I put PATH rather than $PATH. this prevents me from login. I tried to edit the file using the recovery mode but it says that the file system is read only. so any suggestions how to deal with this issue. thanks

• db2 tablespace size and performance impact

  Originally when we began moving to db2 LUW we ran into some issues where our tables were too big to fit into the default 4K table space. As a result of "pressure" to get it done we just went with a 32K default table space and put ALL of our tables there. What impact would that have if any? I talked to one person who said that it would possible make out database MUCH larger than it needed to be. Is that true? What about memory? Would there be any benefit to moving the smaller tables back to a 4K table space? I have looked around in forums and what not but cannot seem to find a good answer.

I am using CodeFirst without Database, so when i execute application, it generated DB for me. here is my scenario, i have following Class structure... public class KVCalculationWish { public KVCalculationWish() { } public int KVCalculationWishId { get; set; } public string KVCalculationWishName { get; set; } public int KVSingleOfferId { get; set; } public virtual KVSingleOffer SingleOffer { get; set; } public int KVCalculationsForPersonId { get; set; } public virtual KVCalculationsForPerson CaculationsForPerson { get; set; } } public class KVSingleOffer { public KVSingleOffer() { } public int KVSingleOfferId { get; set; } public string KVSingleOfferName { get; set; } public KVCalculationWish CalculationWish { get; set; } } public class KVCalculationsForPerson { public KVCalculationsForPerson() { } public int KVCalculationsForPersonId { get; set; } public string KVCalculationsForPersonName { get; set; } public KVCalculationWish CalculationWish { get; set; } } public class EntiyRelation : DbContext { public EntiyRelation() { } public DbSet<KVCalculationWish> CalculationWish { get; set; } public DbSet<KVSingleOffer> SingleOffer { get; set; } public DbSet<KVCalculationsForPerson> CalculationsForPerson { get; set; } protected override void OnModelCreating(System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration.ModelBuilder modelBuilder) { base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder); modelBuilder.Entity<KVCalculationWish>().HasOptional(m => m.SingleOffer).WithRequired(p => p.CalculationWish); modelBuilder.Entity<KVCalculationWish>().HasOptional(m => m.CaculationsForPerson).WithRequired(p => p.CalculationWish); } } i want to use KVCalcuationWish object in KVCalcuationsForPerson and KVSingleOffer class. So when i am creating object of KVCalcuationForPerson and KVSingleOffer class i initialize both object with New KVCalcuationWish object. like this KVCalculationsForPerson calcPerson = new KVCalculationsForPerson(); KVCalculationWish wish = new KVCalculationWish() { CaculationsForPerson = calcPerson }; calcPerson.KVCalculationsForPersonName = "Person Name"; calcPerson.CalculationWish = wish; KVSingleOffer singleOffer = new KVSingleOffer(); KVCalculationWish wish1 = new KVCalculationWish() { SingleOffer = singleOffer }; singleOffer.KVSingleOfferName = "Offer Name"; singleOffer.CalculationWish = wish1; but my problem is when i save this records using following code try { db.CalculationsForPerson.Add(calcPerson); db.SingleOffer.Add(singleOffer); db.SaveChanges(); } catch (Exception ex) { } i can save successfully in DB, but in Table KVCalcuationWish i am not able to get the ID of SingleOffer and CalcuationsForPerson class object. Following is the data of KVCalcuationWish table. KVCalcuationWishID KVCalcuationWishName KVSingleOfferID KVCalcuationsForPersonID 1 NULL 0 0 Following is the data of KVSingleOFfer Table KVSingleOfferID KVSingleOfferName 1 Offer Name Follwing is the data of KVCalcuationsForPerson Table KVSingleOfferID KVSingleOfferName 1 Person Name I want to have following possible output in KVCalcuationWish table. KVCalcuationWishID KVCalcuationWishName KVSingleOfferID KVCalcuationsForPersonID 1 NULL 1 NULL 2 NULL NULL 1 so what i want to achieve is ...... when i am save KVSingleOffer object i want separate record to be inserted and when i save KVCalcuationsForPerson object another separate record should be save to KVCalcuationwish table.
