• Linux does not connect to wireless network under Hyper-V with Windows 8

  I have a VM I am trying to run under Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro. I am using an Asus PDE-N15 adapter on the host machine. When I run Windows 8 in the VM it connects to the network and everything works. When I use Linux (Ubuntu 13.04 32-bit, Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit, Fedora, CentOS) it will not connect to the network. When I run ifconfig I see the adapter show up as eth0 with the correct HWaddr. I see that TX bytes 0, and RX bytes == 0. Could anyone help me figure out how to get this to work?

• How to backup a dev & QA folder website structure?

  A site I just became in charge of uses a really simple two folder structure to host the dev site and the QA site. The sites are hosted on the company servers so I just have the sites' folders mapped on my desktop. I would like to run some kind of backup scheme, but I am finding it hard to think of a way to do this effectively. The problem is that we aren't using any revision control software, and since the servers aren't controlled by me, I don't think I will be able to implement anything like that. Or could I? The entire site is static too, so no DB's or anything besides html, images, PDFs, etc.

• Update failing. Not enough space on /tmp

  Im not being able to run update manager as I get the error saying that there is not enough free space in the /tmp directory. I've practically cleaned out the tmp directory but the error persists. • Problems increasing root size

• Pinging/connecting to server.domain.local never works, but server does when the search domain is specified

  This is a bit of a weird one. I'm running ubuntu on a Windows domain. If I type "ping server" I can ping correctly and I can connect without any problems. It looks up my search domain (domain.local) and everything is hunky dory. Problem is when I try to ping server.domain.local. It just can't look up the server and comes back with "ping: unknown host server.domain.local" Part of me thinks that the name servers aren't set correctly, but I wonder if there is something I can do to get around it.

• Portable website

  I have an online presentation to do next week and I have it all ready to go. The website is HTML and CSS only (no DB), and currently resides on my shared hosting account. Now, although my shared hosting is (relatively) reliable, I have noticed that recently they have been making some changes and my website has been unavailable at times. I don't want this to happen to me on the morning of my presentation, so I am asking what is the best way to prepare for such a thing? My domain is www.presentation.mydomain.com and I would like to keep this if possible (even if issues arise). I have been thinking of a few alternatives: Host my site on two different domains or servers (but what about the domain name?) Have a portable XAMPP version on a USB stick (again, domain name?) Possible failover site/location Update The presentation will be carried out on their laptop, not mine. So I am unable to install any software.

• PHP error log does not display script names nor does it display the errors' line numbers [migrated]

  I think the title is self-explanatory, and my Google-fu isn't bringing up anything useful. I'm working on a new host, and my php error log only displays the error itself, not which script is the offender, nor which line number the error is occurring on. Makes it a tad difficult to debug, especially since there's only 1 error in the script. More info: I'm not using a custom error handler that I'm aware of. This is a standard Wordpress install. The error was [27-Aug-2012 19:22:36 UTC] PHP NOTICE: Trying to get property of non-object. Just no script name or line number in the error I found that Wordpress' error logging contained the information to debug the problem, but that doesn't explain why the log didn't contain line number or script.

• True live USB: Fully Functional

  I can't seem to have the affect I'm looking for on a "Live Ubuntu" I want to run it from the USB drive, a fully functional, fully upgradable version. I do not want to use as a "trial version", or to set up a dual boot or run in a virtual system. I have kids that are killing my computer & everything on my HD, they need their own OS & drive but don't have the $$$ for a laptop for them, I just want it to work on the USB the same way it works on the C: drive

The network setup will be internet modem connected to an Ubuntu Server (2 networks cards). The first network cards to get the internet to the server and the second network card to connect the the wifi hotspot. The server will host the software such as (Example software for windows) which will control the user connected by forcing them to login with the credentials given at the reception. • Build git on embedded system

  I want to build git on our embedded system and I got git's source code from here. I run ./configure tool with following arguments: ./configure --build=arm-eabi --host=`uname -p`-`uname -s`-`uname -o` Configure tool runs, and returns an error says: checking whether system succeeds to read fopen'ed directory...configure: error: in`/home/git-1.8.0.2`. I set necessary environment variables like CC and CXX to our tool chain already, so ./configure complains nothing about compilers. But I have no idea about that error message. It looks like some permission problem, but I have full permission of /home/git-1.8.0.2 for sure. Any idea ?

• How do you remove Ubuntu? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to remove Ubuntu and put Windows back on? I have no idea what was deleted or uninstalled or even what system ran previously on the computer. The computers are public computers for an office and no one know's how to use this system! Most people can't figure it out and have never even heard of it (I have because I knew someone who ran it)!! So how do I remove it? Is there anyway to just do a virtual restore? I'm hoping it was windows 7 on here previously cause don't most 7 systems have a built in windows installation disk iso? Anyone know how or if this can be fixed?? No we don't have the re-installation disks (if we did I would know the system and not have a problem) HELP!!!!

• Does low latency code sometimes have to be "ugly"?

  (This is mainly aimed at those who have specific knowledge of low latency systems, to avoid people just answering with unsubstantiated opinions). Do you feel there is a trade-off between writing "nice" object orientated code and writing very fast low latency code? For instance, avoiding virtual functions in C++/the overhead of polymorphism etc- re-writing code which looks nasty, but is very fast etc? It stands to reason- who cares if it looks ugly (so long as its maintainable)- if you need speed, you need speed? I would be interested to hear from people who have worked in such areas.

• How would I go about updating my electronic circuit simulator's 'electricity'?

  I have made an application which allows the user to place down wires, power sources, and inverters on a virtual circuit board. All connections between tiles are automatic, as shown here: As you can see in the last image, the updating of power throughout this grid is not yet functioning. I think I understand how to do this updating conceptually, but getting it to work in my program is appearing to be much more difficult than I first imagined. My source code can be found here. If you have any tips as to how to I might approach this monstrous task, please let me know. EDIT The goal here is to simply get a working application. Getting tiles to pass on power to their neighbors is quite easy, but the tricky part is getting wires to "unpower" after the removal of a power source. The size of the grid is just 18x18, so efficiency really isn't a factor, for those wondering.

• Can't connect to SSL web service with WS-Security using PHP SOAP extension - certificate, complex WSDL

  Using the PHP5 SOAP extension I have been unable to connect to a web service having an https endpoint, with client certificate and using WS-Security, although I can connect using soapUI with the exact same wsdl and client certificate, and obtain the normal response to the request. There is no HTTP authentication and no proxy is involved. The message I get is 'Could not connect to host'. Have been able to verify that I am NOT hitting the host server. (Earlier I wrongly said that I was hitting the server.) The self-signed client SSL certificate is a .pem file converted by openssl from a .p12 keystore which in turn was converted by keytool from a .jks keystore having a single entry consisting of private key and client certificate. In soapUI I did not need to supply a server private certificate, the only two files I gave it were the wdsl and pem. I did have to supply the pem and its passphrase to be able to connect. I am speculating that despite the error message my problem might actually be in the formation of the XML request rather than the SSL connection itself. The wsdl I have been given has nested complex types. The php server is on my Windows XP laptop with IIS. The code, data values and WSDL extracts are shown below. (The WSSoapClient class simply extends SoapClient, adding a WS-Security Username Token header with mustUnderstand = true and including a nonce, both of which the soapUI call had required.) Would so much appreciate any help. I'm a newbie thrown in at the deep end, and how! Have done vast amounts of Googling on this over many days, following many suggestions and have read Pro PHP by Kevin McArthur. An attempt to use classmaps in place of nested arrays also fell flat. • DSOFramer.ocx Hosting word documents in 64 bit Windows Forms

  It looks like the DSOFramer.ocx component is not available for download anymore from MSDN as described here. Also the DSOFramer component is a 32 bit component. Given this, i have 2 questions: Is there any other alternative for hosting a word document in a Windows Form apart from using the DSOFramer.ocx component? If i move to Windows 64 bit operating system, and run the windows form as a native 64 bit process, then how do I host the word document in a 64 bit process?

• InternalsVisibleTo attribute and security vulnerability

  I found one issue with InternalsVisibleTo attribute usage. The idea of InternalsVisibleTo attribute to allow some other assemblies to use internal classes\methods of this assembly. To make it work you need sign your assemblies. So, if other assemblies isn't specified in main assembly and if they have incorrect public key, then they can't use Internal members. But the issue in Reflection Emit type generation. For example, we have CorpLibrary1 assembly and it has such class: public class TestApi { internal virtual void DoSomething() { Console.WriteLine("Base DoSomething"); } public void DoApiTest() { // some internal logic // ... // call internal method DoSomething(); } } This assembly is marked with such attribute to allow another CorpLibrary2 to make inheritor for that TestAPI and override behaviour of DoSomething method. My steps to do it: Generate new assembly in runtime via AssemblyBuilder Get AssemblyName from CorpLibrary1 and copy PublikKey to new assembly Generate new assembly that will inherit TestApi class As PublicKey and name of generated assembly is the same as in InternalsVisibleTo, then we can generate new DoSomething method that will override internal method in TestAPI assembly Then we have another assembly that isn't related to this CorpLibrary1 and can't use internal members. • Apache, Nginx, WSGI, django cookies get lost.

  I'm running into a problem trying to get a Django application running in my staging environment. I'm running nginx as a reverse proxy with Apache 2.2/mod_wsgi as the target, and my Django app behind that. The problem is that the cookies are getting lost somewhere between nginx and Apache. My nginx.conf (ripped out a few locations to keep it small): http { gzip on; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_pass_header Set-Cookie; upstream django { server 127.0.0.1:8080; } server { listen 80; server_name encendio.iigins.com; location / { proxy_pass http://django; } } } My Apache vhosts file: <VirtualHost *:8080> ServerName encendio.test.com ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "/usr/local/www/apache22/data" WSGIScriptAlias / /usr/local/www/apache22/data/sasquatch/wsgi_handler.py </VirtualHost> If I directly to http://encendio.test.com:8080/ the cookies work and I can log into the admin area. If I log into http://encendio.test.com/, the admin area tells me my browser isn't using cookies. Now things get kind of weird. I went so far as to look at the environ being passed into my wsgi_handler.py: _application = django.core.handlers.wsgi.WSGIHandler() def application(environ, start_response): print >> sys.stderr, environ.get('HTTP_COOKIE', "No Cookie") return _application(environ, start_response) It shows the cookie existing in the environment: [Mon Mar 22 12:15:50 2010] [error] csrftoken=9f2569elkj67984242f0e7a6dea0b791; sessionid=4e5432hjkds8603f26d5ffa02b10cd27 And this cookie matches up with what I see in nginx's log if I plug in $http_cookie on the end of the log. So Apache is getting the cookie in some form, but it's not ending up where Django can see it. I'm at my wit's end for why this isn't working, so any help is greatly appreciated. Ninja Edit: I forgot to mention that Firefox is seeing the cookies. The oddity is that every time I attempt to log in, I get a new sessionid.
