• Searching a set of data with multiple terms using Linq

  I'm in the process of moving from ADO.NET to Linq. The application is a directory search program to look people up. The users are allowed to type the search criteria into a single textbox. They can separate each term with a space, or wrap a phrase in quotes such as "park place" to indicate that it is one term. Behind the scenes the data comes from a XML file that has about 90,000 records in it and is about 65 megs. I load the data into a DataTable and then use the .Select method with a SQL query to perform the searches. The query I pass is built from the search terms the user passed. I split the string from the textbox into an array using a regular expression that will split everything into a separate element that has a space in it. However if there are quotes around a phrase, that becomes it's own element in the array. I then end up with a single dimension array with x number of elements, which I iterate over to build a long query. I then build the search expression below: query = query & _ "((userid LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(nickname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(lastname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(firstname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(department LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(telephoneNumber LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(email LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(Office LIKE '" & tempstr & "%'))" Each term will have a set of the above query. If there is more than one term, I put an AND in between, and build another query like above with the next term. I'm not sure how to do this in Linq. So far, I've got the XML file loading correctly. I'm able to search it with specific criteria, but I'm not sure how to best implement the search over multiple terms. So partial matches don't work. It looks like what I'd want to use is the .Startswith but that appears to be only in Linq2SQL. Any guidance would be appreciated. I'm new to Linq, so I might be missing a simple way to do this. • FrameworkFolders support for WebCenter Portal

  Oracle WebCenter Content Server includes components that provide a hierarchical folder interface, similar to a conventional file system, for organizing and managing some or all of the content in the repository. We used Contribution Folders (folders_g) which is being replaced by the new Folders (FrameworkFolders) component. The newer FrameworkFolders component fixes a number of limitations that folders_g had and adds a ton of new features. If you have played with the WebCenter Content mobile app, you will notice that it uses FrameworkFolders too. WebCenter Portal requires the use of the folders_g component. Given the fact that folders_g and FrameworkFolders component do not go well together and must never be enabled together on any system, you could never use the new features if you planned to use integrate Content with Portal. I still remember presenting a demo with a colleague for a client and he was showing off the mobile capabilities in Portal (which are pretty impressive by the way) and was getting all the glory; while I was sitting back wanting to show off the Content app but could not (no FrameworkFolders). Not any more; Oracle has released bundle patches for both WebCenter Content and Portal in April 2014 which bring home the support for FrameworkFolders. These patches will bring these products to version 11.1.1.8.3. You can enable support for FrameworkFolders on new Content and Portal installations where the folders_g component has never been enabled using the following patches: Download and apply the WebCenter Content MLR03 patch 18088049. Download and apply the WebCenter Portal BP3 patch 18085041. Download and apply the WebCenterConfigure component patch 18387955. Before applying this patch on the Content Server ensure that WebCenter Content MLR03 patch 18088049 has already been applied. You can find detailed instructions on how to enable FrameworkFolders support in the Oracle® Fusion Middleware Installation Guide for Oracle WebCenter Portal 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.8.3). There may be another bundle patches release (version 11.1.1.8.4) for many FMW products (including WebCenter Portal) in July 2014 which could further enhance the FrameworkFolders support.

• xsl key - multiple levels for an element

I have used xsl key.   Trying to insert a large audio file into an Oracle 10g database and keep getting this error: ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested The byte array length of the audio file is 2702577. • Find the xmlHttpRequest resource in aspx page

  I'm trying to find an xmlHttpRequest or similar resource that I can query directly to obtain an xml file for my own purposes. At this site it is possible to browse a Google Map mashup with markers. Unfortunately it is only possible to view all markers at a small view range, whereas I simply want to obtain all the information at once for the entire state. Using the firebug console in firefox I can enter the following javascript line to obtain the xml that I desire: document.getElementById("stationXML").value I tracked this document element down to an <input> tag, but I can't figure out how that input is set.   I am currently using sql.row("statement") and storing to a list. I then am trying to setup my xml file using MarkupBuilder. Is there a better way than iterating over the list poping off an item and then parsing it to add my different column names and values? • XSLT good choice for web framework?

  I've always thought of XML (and SGML before that) data as the devil's format. I'm of the old database and flat files school. Nonetheless, we are developing a commercially-available web product who's framework is based off of translating/transforming XML data in chains. As we're interviewing for positions as well talking to potential customers, they love the concept of what it will do but are weary of supporting XSLT long-term. One person even called it the proverbial "dead." Dead like COBOL, Unix, and C or dead like Apple Business BASIC? Anyway, I'm curious if building a web framework on XSLT is really not cutting edge enough (oddly) for companies. Are there inherent XSLT implementation problems that make this venture something worth reconsidering?

Let's take this example: I want to parse XML processing instruction. The format is: "<?" <target> <data> "?>": target is an XML name, data can be anything except ?>, because it's the closing tag. Why should I do that? Am I writing a parser that does not parse? The problem is (i guess): hence <PI_DATA> recognizes "everything", my definition is wrong. I should tell JavaCC to recognize "everything except ?>" as processing instruction data. But how can it be done? NOTE: I can only exclude single characters using ~["a"|"b"|"c"], I can't exclude strings such as ~["abc"] or ~["?>"]. Another great anti-feature of JavaCC. Thank you.

• XmlDocument.InnerXml is null, but InnerText is not

  I'm using XmlDocument and XmlElement to build a simple (but large) XML document that looks something like: <Widgets> <Widget> <Stuff>foo</Stuff> <MoreStuff>bar</MoreStuff>...lots more child nodes </Widget> <Widget>...lots more Widget nodes </Widgets> My problem is that when I'm done building the XML, the XmlDocument.InnerXml is null, but the InnerText still shows all the text of all the child nodes. Has anyone ever seen a problem like this before? What kind of input data would cause these symptoms? I expected the XmlDocument to just throw an exception if it was given bad data. • XmlDocument caching memory usage

  We are seeing very high memory usage in .NET web applications which use XmlDocument. A small (~5MB) XML document is loaded into an XmlDocument object and stored in HttpContext.Cache for easy querying and XSLT transformation on each page load. The XML is modified on disk periodically so a cache has a dependency on the file. Such an application appears to be using hundreds of megabytes of RAM. I have experimented with requesting garbage collection on each request start, and this keeps the RAM usage far lower but I cannot imagine this is good practise. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can achieve the same goal but with lower RAM usage?

  I'm making a request from a java webapp to an Oracle' stored procedure which happens to have a Timestamp IN parameter. In the testing environment, it works sending: SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yyyy hh:mm:ss a"); input.setTimestampField(dateFormat.format(new Date())); But in the production environment, it raises an exception ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string. I know the testing environment should be a replica of the production site, but it is not in my hands to set them properly. And I need to send the Timestamp field despite the way they setup the database. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  I am looking for something like TRYCAST in TSQL or an equivalent method / hack. In my case I am extracting some date data from an xml column. The following query throws "Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime." if the piece of data found in the xml cannot be converted to datetime (in this specific case, the date is "0001-01-01" in some cases). • Oracle - Is there any effects of not having a primary key on a table ?

  We use sequence numbers for primary keys on the tables. There are some tables where we dont really use the primary key for any querying purpose. But, we have Indexes on other columns. These are non-unique indexes. The queries use these non-primary key columns in the WHERE conditions. So, I dont really see any benefit of having a primary key on such tables. My experience with SQL 2000 was that, it used to replicate tables which had some primary key. Otherwise it would not. I am using Oracle 10gR2. I would like to know if there are any such side-effects of having tables that dont have primary key.

• Microsoft Word Document Controls not accepting carriage returns

  So, I have a Microsoft Word 2007 Document with several Plain Text Format (I have tried Rich Text Format as well) controls which accept input via XML. For carriage returns, I had the string being passed through XML containing "\r\n" when I wanted a carriage return, but the word document ignored that and just kept wrapping things on the same line. I also tried replacing the \r\n with System.Environment.NewLine in my C# mapper, but that just put in \r\n anyway, which still didn't work. Note also that on the control itself I have set it to "Allow Carriage Returns (Multiple Paragrpahs)" in the control properties.   I've written a WCF IDispatchMessageInspector, so I can log incomming and outgoing messages. But I'm not sure how to get a nicely-formatted XML string to log.   Before I continue I would just like to say I know that "Premature optimization is the root of all evil." However this program is only a hobby project and I enjoy trying to find ways to optimize it. That being said, I was reading an article on improving xml performance and it recommended sharing "the XmlNameTable class that is used to store element and attribute names across multiple XML documents of the same type to improve performance." I wasn't able to find any information about doing this in my googling, so it is likely that this is either not possible, a no-no, or a stupid question, but what's the harm in asking?

If use notational method of parameter passing, I get an ORA-00907: Missing right parenthesis error message INSERT INTO foo (a, b, c) VALUES (c, F1(P1=>'1', P2=>'2', P3 => '3'), e) Changing the same to position based parameter passing, and the same code gets compiled with no errors.
