• How do you develop Visual Studio Add-Ins?

  I have a vague idea Visual Studio allows you to run a second sandboxed instance where the add-in is being in fact loaded. That'd allow you to debug your add-in code and such. Is this effectively possible? How would I go about doing that? I'm currently using a single instance of Visual Studio. I'm having the problem that as I load and run the add-in, it won't allow me to compile again until I restart that instance of Visual Studio as there seems to be no way to unload the add-in. Even using two instances of Visual Studio wouldn't really help in here. There must be an easier way, how do you guys do it? Thanks

It is throwing URIFormatException and the application crashes when navigating to some sites like "WWW.oosai.com" and also on clicking back or forward buttons when there is no internet connection. • In a multithreaded app, would a multi-core or multiprocessor arrangement be better?

  I've read a lot on this topic already both here (e.g., stackoverflow.com/questions/1713554/threads-processes-vs-multithreading-multi-core-multiprocessor-how-they-are or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/680684/multi-cpu-multi-core-and-hyper-thread) and elsewhere (e.g., ixbtlabs.com/articles2/cpu/rmmt-l2-cache.html or software.intel.com/en-us/articles/multi-core-introduction/), but I still am not sure about a couple things that seem very straightforward. So I thought I'd just ask. (1) Is a multi-core processor in which each core has dedicated cache effectively the same as a multiprocessor system (balanced of course for processor speed, cache size, and so on)? (2) Let's say I have some images to analyze (i.e., computer vision), and I have these images loaded into RAM. My app spawns a thread for each image that needs to be analyzed. Will this app on a shared cache multi-core processor run slower than on a dedicated cache multi-core processor, and would the latter run at the same speed as on an equivalent single-core multiprocessor machine? • Unit test class inherited from ContextBoundObject and decorated with ContextAttribute

  I am trying to retrofit unit tests on to some existing code base. Both the class and method I want to unit test is decorated with custom attributes that are inherited from ContextBoundObject and ContextAttribute. I dont want them to run as part of the unit test. The only solution I have come up with is to compile the attribute out when I want to unit test. I dont really like this solution and would prefer to either replace it with a mocked attribute at runtime or prevent the attribute from running in a more elegant way. How do you unit test code that has class and method attributes that inherit from ContextBoundObject and ContextAttribute that you dont want to run as part of a unit test? Thanks in advance.

It initialises the rest of the components in the code, some of them do not involve Swing and some of them do. • Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access?   I need to find out the physical path of a grails GSP file. My requirement is that I want to create a new layout file at run-time and use that in the application. I have been able to achieve this without problem when the application runs on jetty (grails run-app), however, when I deploy the app on Jboss, the path at which the file needs to be created changes. So, ideally I would like to find out at runtime using some magical utility the path of a particular GSP (lets say main.gsp layout file) and I need to create my new layout in the same directory in which main.gsp reside.   I downloaded a sample code from the MAC OSX developer library and the code is the format of a .pbproj (Project builder) and im unable to open it on xcode. I have tried the following without any luck:- 1) Rename FancyAbout.pbproj to Old.xcodeproj 2) Open Old.xcodeproj. Xcode will ask you to upgrade it. Save it as FancyAbout.xcodeproj. 3) When the project opens, choose Project Upgrade All Targets in Project to Native... to upgrade to the Xcode build system 4) Build and run. It works. I run a Mac 10.7.3 with Xcode on 4.3.2 Anyone have any suggestions on how i can get this running in xcode? Thanks in advance!

On XP this works fine without being admin. On this link MS states that 'Windows 7: Low-integrity users have read-only permissions for local WMI operations.'. I guess this is the problem. But I can't find any clue on how to change this.

• Setting Sql server security rights for multiple situations

  We have an application which uses an instance of Sql Server locally for its backend storage. The administrator windows login has had its sysadmin right revoked, and instead two sql logins have been created; one for the application with a secret password and one read only login we let users view the raw data with. This was working fine until we moved on FileStreams, which requires intergrated windows authentication. So now the sql server logins must be replaced. As a result, I am now reviewing all of our logins but I am not sure how it is possible. It seems that the application needs full read/write access, yet I still need to lock down writing to the tables so the user cannot login into the database and delete data randomly. Does anyone have any tips for setting multiple levels of security using intergrated windows logins, or can you direct me to any further reading? • Firefox 3.6.3 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - symbolic link to command line binary doesn't work?

  I have Firefox 10.6.3 installed on Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the DMG. I can run firefox from the terminal using /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin. However, if I create a symbolic link: sudo ln -s /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin /bin/firefox then it refuses to run, or at least display. When I issue "firefox" from the terminal, I can see the process in top, but never get the GUI to appear. :/ = ls -lr /bin/firefox lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 52 May 5 15:19 /bin/firefox - /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin Any ideas? I have just successfully installed TWILL on my computer with the help of one very supportive member of "StackOverflow" (you can check it out HERE) and have tried to run one of the simple examples on the twill documentation page (you can see that page HERE). Here is that example: Let's say my username on www.slash.org is lynxye and my password is mammal. When I try to enter that example code into my Python prompt, I can only type and enter the first line of the code because when I click on "Enter" to start a new line, I get some error messages right away: The same happens when I try to enter this code into my terminal: I think I miss out on some basics here. Perhaps, I need to create a file that would contain that code and then run that file somehow, but I really don't know where I need to create that file and with what extensdion. Can anyone, please, help me with this?

  I need to create a bootstrap for my WiX project I've tried using setupbld.exe but it will only allow me to create an executable that will show my UI or one that will behave as a silent installer but not both. I need to be able to run the resulting executable with argument that will tell it wether or not to show the UI during installation. I've found this post by John Robbins that explains how to re-build the setup.exe stub used in the creation of the bootstrap but I was hoping there is a simpler way to do what I need. Does anyone know of a way to create a bootstrap that I use to run either as a simple (with UI) install or as a silent install.

• A method to change effective user id of a running program?

  I'm writing a simple package manager and I'd like to automatically try sudo if the program isn't run as root. I found a function called seteuid, which looks likes it's exactly what I need, but I don't have the permissions to run it. So far all I can think of is a bash script to check before they get to the actual binary, but I'd like to do this all as C++ if possible. Is there any method of changing a processes's euid after it starts executing? Or a way to call sudo?

Authentication in our web application is based username / password credentials, what mechanisms are available for the admin to proxy as 'user2' when he doesn't have the password for 'user2'. How can the application track such access for audit purposes to mention that 'admin' had proxied for 'user2' and performed certain actions. I am looking for suggestions on supporting this in our j2ee (jboss seam) web application.

• Copying files from a Rails plugin into the application upon plugin install

  When someone installs this plugin, I would like a file to be copied into the config/initializers directory of the app. I could do this in install.rb by copying a template file that resides somewhere in the plugin. Another option would be to require the user to run a generator after install. I know rspec-rails makes you run a generator after you install it, is that the recommended behavior? And is there anything wrong with copying files into the application in install.rb? Thanks! Lou

  Actually we've lot of quartz jobs in our application. For some time all of the jobs work fine. • Calling another ruby script from a ruby script

  In ruby, is it possible to specify to call another ruby script using the same ruby interpreter as the original script is being run by? For example, if a.rb runs b.rb a couple of times, is it possible to replace system("ruby", "b.rb", "foo", "bar") with something like run_ruby("b.rb", "foo", "bar") so that if you used ruby1.9.1 a.rb on the original, ruby1.9.1 would be used on b.rb, but if you just used ruby a.rb on the original, ruby would be used on b.rb? I'd prefer not to use shebangs, as I'd like it to be able to run on different computers, some of which don't have /usr/bin/env.
