  Found an interesting resource thanks to a close friend. Ping.eu is a free service which would let you test various aspects related to networks which would typically be pain inducing doing it on your own. For seasoned network professional having a MAC address of their own instead of a name :) this might not be that useful. However for a layperson like me this an invaluable resource. These guys provide you with following services: Ping – Shows how long it takes for packets to reach host Traceroute – Traces the route of packets to destination host from our server DNS lookup – Look up DNS record WHOIS – Lists contact info for an IP or domain Port check – Tests if port is opened on specified IP Reverse lookup – Gets hostname by IP address Proxy checker – Detects a proxy server Mail relaying – Tests relaying capabilities of specified mail-server Bandwidth meter – Detects your download speed from our server Network calculator – Calculates subnet range by network mask Network mask calculator – Calculates network mask by subnet range Country by IP – Detects country by IP or hostname Unit converter – Converts values from one unit to another   Taken straight from their site. • Evil Spam Emails caused hosting account suspension!

  We have a couple domains hosted rackservers.com.au. Recently our account go suspended without any notice. I then filed a ticket and soon got the answer:'There are some one forging email accounts from your domain, and they have been sending out spam emails. So we do not want you here anymore, take your backup and go.' I am quite shocked by such attitude and more confused by the actions we should take under such situation. Should I take my back up and go? Should I ask them for more details? How can I prevent this from happening again in the future?

  Whenever I attempt to make a record for *.schneiderdonnelly.com.au and CNAME it, I get two errors: You can't mix CNAME/MX records together using the same hostname. Domain root's cannot be CNAME's, however you can web-forward this record to www.schneiderdonnelly.com.au instead for the same effect. I've read it's possible so why can't I make it work? • Web Frameworks caring about persistence?

  I have noticed that Play! Framework encompasses persistence strategy (like JPA etc...) Why would a web framework care about persistence ?! Indeed, this would be the job of the server-sides components (like EJB etc...), wouldn't this? Otherwise, client would be too coupled with server's business logic. UPDATE: One answer would be : it's more likely used for simple application including itself the whole business logics. However, for large applications with well-designed layers(services, domain, DAO's etc..), persistence is not recommended within web client layer since there would be several different web(or not) clients.

• Improve email Delivery Rates

  I have a web server that sends legitimate transactional email in high quantities. A reasonable percentage of users report that they never receive the emails. For every message sent, there's also a blind carbon copy going to an unfiltered email box on a different provider that I review to ensure the server actually sent the emails. All of the emails make it to my bcc box, so the server is sending the emails properly. It seems to be a spam filtering problem at other email providers. The hosting provider for the web server indicates a reverse dns lookup has been set at their level linking the emails ip address properly to my server and domain. Question: Is there anything else I can do to improve the rate that 3rd party service providers are filtering the emails I'm sending? Is there anything I can set on the DNS that I control to show that the server sending the emails is legitimate?

  I'm a Windows C++ programmer with a great deal of experience, and I'm looking for book recommendations to get up to speed with programming in Linux (specifically RHE 6). Ideally, I'd like a book geared specifically to my needs. Something along the lines of "Linux C++ Programming for Windows Experts" would be nice. :) I'm open to any recommendations you have. My domain is primarily financial market data servers (no GUIs) and simple console apps. I do a lot of multithreading, a lot of networking, not a lot of user interface stuff. I know C++0x, but our production codebase can only use C++. Thanks for your recommendations for books and/or resources!

  I am trying to configure DNS on my domain, however, I can only get it to work with the www prefix. I've tried all of the following: mydomain.com A 123.456.789 mydomain A 123.456.789 * A 123.456.789 But it always goes to port :80 requires a username and password. Except now it's somehow being redirected to a spammers website.

How can i acheive this? • Using rel=canonical and noindex in a 1-n partners enviroment

  We sell a whole site (domain, etc) to partners that create content that is shown together at the main site. What we want to achieve is that the main site copy is the original, but the one that is indexed is the partners copy. We want to do it this way so the search results point to the partner sites but never to the main site while the main site gets all the credit for the links. We are trying setting the main site article with a noindex, follow and a link to the partner article, and in the partner article we have a rel=canonical pointing to the main site article. Are we correct or the noindex at the main site will break the canonical reference?

  This is basically a question about what are weak entities? When should we use them? How should they be modeled? What is the main difference between normal entities and weak entities? Does weak entities correspond to value objects when doing Domain Driven Design? To help keep the question on topic here is an example taken from Wikipedia that people can use to answer these question: In this example OrderItem was modeled as a weak entity, but I can't understand why it can't be modeled as a normal entity.   I have a wordpress site which is located at a .com address. The site is a simple 4 page personal site with my academic credentials, publications and a health blog that I started. I have done quite a bit of seo and I rank pretty high for the keywords i want on google.co.uk. However, I do not rank at all on google.com.mt which is the Malta specific search. I have therefore just bought the .com.mt domain and pointed the DNS nameservers to my current host provider and redirected it to the .com address. My goal is to make sure I don't screw up my google.co.uk search ranking, while starting to rank on google.com.mt I'm I doing the right thing or do you have any suggestions??

  Can anyone see any ways in which I can improve my speed and efficiency with the following setup? Or if there are any obvious holes in my building process? This is for building Wordpress websites on Mac: 1) I have a standard Wordpress setup that I work from which includes various plugins that I tend to use across all setups - thus cutting out the step of having to download them all the time! 2) My standard WP files are copied into a Dropbox folder - thus creating backups of the files. 3) I then open up MAMP and setup a local version. 4) I open up Coda and setup the FTP details so files can be uploaded to the live domain by using the publish button. If anyone has any advice on how to improve this process then please let me know!

• Is eCPMs dropping by about 50% in January a usual behavior on Google AdSense?

  So I just got semi-serious about running some AdSense sites over the past 6 months and the eCPM's have hovered between 1.38 and 1.42 [yes it's that close] when I look at the eCPM for each month. Obviously some deviation day to day but pretty damn close to a buck forty in aggregate. So far for January I am sitting at 0.80 for an eCPM. I know it's not a huge sample size but the daily pageviews are fairly consistent [actually a bit higher] than where they were in December. I am trying to justify this by thinking that somehow a lot of ad buyers buy inventory for the year and have to get setup to do another big buy now that it's a new calendar year but that thought isn't close to comforting. Is this happening to anyone else? EDIT: I run a lot of websites and the ratios of pageviews are about the same this month to last month but just to be clear the eCPM I posted is for 20 websites in a variety of niches, it doesn't accurately depict any one domain.

  Today after trying to install and remove BURG and few themes I faced an issue. Now I can't install or remove anything. I also tried installing burg as it tries to run command update-burg, but appears that it tries to delete these packages always when I try to install or remove or do anything with apt. Any ideas how I could solve this issue? • Email sent via Google via relayhost being marked as spam

  Company email hosted by Google Apps. Company PBX in-house is Elastix. All voicemails received on the extensions of Elastix are supposed to be emailed by the CentOS server (Postfix) to the email address of the employee. Using relayhost on postfix, I am sending those emails through Google Apps (smtp.gmail.com), but some of these voicemail emails end up in the spam. Sending it through Google, and sending it to an email hosted by Google - yet there's spam. Email sent from the Google Apps interface - no complaints of it going to spam - just from the Elastix server. I've just asked our DNS domain guys to add spf records, but is that all that's needed? Some help please!

• DNS and Wildcard CNAME

  Whenever I attempt to make a record for *.schneiderdonnelly.com.au and CNAME it, I get two errors: You can't mix CNAME/MX records together using the same hostname. Domain root's cannot be CNAME's, however you can web-forward this record to www.schneiderdonnelly.com.au instead for the same effect. I've read it's possible so why can't I make it work? • Why are the tags on my site using wordpress being indexed instead of the page?

  I can't figure out why my tags are being indexed by google and not my actual posts. So in google, my posts are showing up as mysite.com/tags/post and I of course I want it to look like mysite.com/category/actualpost. Any ideas what could be wrong? My domain is 3 years old and I just started a new focus of an existing site. I can't figure this out! There is no duplicate content, I have a sitemap submitted to webmaster tools and robots.txt...I have everything I need. This is the first time something like this has happened to me. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

• Looking for reading material on application architecture with web UI

  I'm looking for articles (or other reading material) on the topic of fat client applications with a web UI layer. Open-source projects that use this architecture would be very interesting too. Such an application would embed one (or more) browser-window(s) (chromiumembedded for example). You would need bidirectional communication between your web-UI and your domain model/services. I think this allows quick prototyping the UI, a clean separation between logic and UI and potentially easier portability across platforms (compared to WinForms for example). But that is just my view, I was looking for the view of people who have been on that road. An example of an application using a web-ui layer is Light Table. Unfortunately it is not open source (at this point?).

  I want to determine when to do non-trivial initialization of a class. I see two times to do initialization: constructor and other method. I want to figure out when to use each. • Transfer domains without disrupting local email server

  Perhaps I am thinking about this wrong, but maybe some of you guys can help me on this one. I have a client who currently has a domain from network solutions and is hosted via GoDaddy. Additionally, he his has email service with GoDaddy as well, but it seems to be forwarded to his local server at work. How can I transfer hosting accounts without disrupting email service (or at least temporarily)?
