  • Virtual machine image compatibility between VMware Server and VMware Player

    I'm trying to minimize the number of different product versions used on my PC's both at work and at home. So far I have a mixture of: VMware Server 1.0.7 VMware Server 2.0.2 VMware Player 2.5.3 VMware Player 3.0.0 and I would love to upgrade each product family to the latest version. Since Virtual Machine Mobility Guide is marked as deprecated, can anyone point me to some fresh information about virtual machine compatibility between VMware Player and VMware Server, in order to still be able to move virtual machines back and forth between the mentioned products? Update What I'm looking for is an updated document with virtual machines hardware versions, and the VMware products that are able to use that specific hardware version, so I can know - given the products that are using a specific virtual machine - what is the maximum hardware version that I can update the virtual machine to.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP4 wasn't installed

    I lost track of my account when my question was moved to superuser. I wasn't able to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP4 through automatic update so I downloaded the update from here and tried manual install, which was also failed with some error: The components that you are trying to install are already installed I checked the product version of sql server 2005 which returned 9.00.5000.00 through command Select @@version. Now the question is, if the automatic update wasn't able to apply the SP4 patch then how come the version is updated to 9.00.5000.00 ? There is no way to rollback or reinstall the patch as it takes the entire SQL Server which came with Visual Studio 2005 to be re-installed. Is there any other way I can verify that SP4 patch was properly applied? Edit: I used MBSA Tool to analyze the required updates which confirms that the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP4 is missing.

  • Chrome caching 302 redirects

    I have a php script with is used to rotate banner images on a site. Under Firefox/IE page refreshes will make another request and a different image will be returned. Under Chrome, the request seems to be cached and only opening the page in a new tab will cause it to actually query the script. I believe this used to work in older versions of chrome, I've tried a few different types of redirect codes all with the same result.   • I want to install an MSI twice

    I have a peculiar wish to install an msi twice on a machine. The purpose of the double install is to first install under the pre-production folder, run the deployment in a safe environment prior to deploying in the production folder. We typically use separate machines to represent these different environments however in this case I need to use the same box. The two scenarios I get are as follows: I've installed pre-production, I'm happy, I want to install production, I run the msi, it asks whether I want to repair or remove the installation I've production installed, I want to install the new version of the msi, it tells me I already have a version of the product installed and I must first un-install the current version The first scenario isn't too bad as we can at that point sensibly un-install and re-install under the production folder, but the second scenario is a pain as we don't want to un-install the live production deployment. Is there a setting I can give to msiexec that will allow this? Is there a more suitable different approach I could use?

Since we decided to push all three applications to the user .How to make the applications to use its particular version. There are few web based apps and enterprise apps which requires only a specific set of java versions which is creating issues. Os : Win 7 IE - ver 8 Work around In Progress : Trying to apply a batch file for each app to set the require java version path , but its not the required solution.     I just got the new Safari 5.0 I downloaded because my Mac told me there was a new version that I should be getting. But when I try to run this new version of the application -- nothing happens! I mean the program seems to be working but nothing appears on the screen and so when I try to see my top sites a little window shows up but it just doesn't show anything.   • What is the easiest and cleanest way to create a chrooted SFTP on Centos 5.4?

    Hi, I would like to setup a SFTP with chroot (or equivalent) login to my Centos 5.4 server in a clean way. By clean way I mean by using only the YUM command if possible and with something easy to maintain and easy to extend (for example an easy way to add an extra SFTP user). The problem with CentOS 5.4 is that OpenSSH is at version 4.3 in the repository so it is not possible to use the built in chroot capabilities of OpenSSH 4.8+. Installing RSSH required to create manually a chrooted directory which don't seems easy to maintain to me. MySecureShell is an other solution but it require an higher version of openSSL than the one which is in the repository. I know that I could install manually an higher version of OpenSSH but I would lose all the advantage of the Yum command and it could become tricky to maintain if I want to do some updates in the futur... Do you have an easy and clean way to setup a chrooted SFTP login on a centOS 5.4 server? Thanks!

    I recently asked about repairing a corrupt event log, because it seemed to be a one-off event. The event log has since exhibited the same behavior 3 times. We have been trying to find patterns, but so far we have found nothing. The server runs several ASP.NET applications and three scheduled tasks written in .NET. The last modified date of the event log once happened to be the same time as one of the scheduled tasks, but the others have not been. Any suggestions of where to look next or a way we can get any information out of a corrupt evtx file? The server is running critical e-commerce applications, so we want to keep the number of restarts required to a minimum.     I'm trying to install the Drivers for a FirePro v4900 on a Windows Embedded 7 Standard 64bit OS. I want the system to be as small as possible, so i would rather not install the whole catalyst control center, but only the necessary drivers. Because the installation should be accomplished absolutely unattended, the installation process of the FirePro-Driver should also be done without any user interaction. I see two possible solutions for the Problem: Install only the Drivers: Is it possible to solely install the necessary drivers? How would i achieve that? This solution would be the preferred one, because of the smaller footprint. Silent custom install the provided "FirePro_8.911.3.3_VistaWin7_X32X64_135673.exe" (found at ATI FirePro™ Driver). Is there a way, to do that? Thank you in advance for your support! Update: I managed to accomplish a silent installation. I extracted the contents of the above mention installer-file and ran \$_OUTDIR\Bin64\Setup.exe -Install. (There are some other Parameters, just run Setup.exe /?). But i couldn't achieve to just install the drivers without the Cataclyst Control Center, and it seams the Control Center has some unfulfilled dependencies and so it crashes...

  • Restore single users Exchange 2003 mailbox from backup

    I take weekly backups of exchange in full. I also take complete weekly backups of the entire server. It is a Server 2003 R2 with AD and Exchange 2003 all on one box. One users inbox has disappeared. She has 19000+ junk items now. It is possible the inbox got mixed into the junk. Regardless it is such a huge mess she is not going to go through all of that.... I want to restore he mailbox from the backup. I followed this MS KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823176 I had to use Method 3. I have a VM of Server 2003 R2 with exchange but I am having failures on the restore from NT backup. The backup log just states to check the application log.... Application log points to backup log... Only info Is failed to restore Only thing different is the computer name... The only error I can find is in the Application log. Information Store Database not found All others just say that the backup failed. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. UPDATE I have successfully proven I can restore the DB into a recovery storage group in my VM Unfortunately due to the actual account being on a different store I am unable to do the recovery... Error is The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000 Two questions QUESTION 1 Should I repeat my steps on the production exchange server in the recover storage group? then merge into her original account? I am just concerned with doing recovery like that on the live server.... QUESTION 2 Is there any way I can extract her .PST from my recovery VM and then import into her outlook? On the Recovery VM: I restored the raw DB from my full backup repaired it with ESEUTIL then mounted in the recovery store. Was thinking I could just repeat and mount in the main store on the VM?     I was trying to some hack with Win-8 and I found something which is really gonna out my mind. When I set the default browser to the IE then its icon become Modern UI and I can't see the option Open file location at the bottom when I select it by right click. But if I don't set it default then it became a desktop version icon and show up the option when I select it. Same is for the Google Chrome when I checked it. IE icon when it is not set to default, I can see the option open file location. Google Chrome icon when it is set to default. Google Chrome of desktop version when it is set to default. So my question is where does Modern UI keep exe of the default browser? And why the default browser has Modern UI icon and non-default browser has desktop version icon.

    Can linux or other unix create a file that no user, including root, can modify unless they have the secret key? By "have the secret key" I mean they are using some crypto scheme. Here's a scenario if you aren't already downvoting: Bob encrypts something about file /foo (maybe inode?) using secret key K Alice tries "sudo rm /foo" and gets permission denied, so she decrypts something about file /foo using secret key K and then "sudo rm /foo" succeeds.

    I'm working on my mom's computer and she freaked because it told her "There was an imminent hard drive failure about to occurr." I did some digging and found it was related to the S.M.A.R.T. technology in the hard drive. The message appears every time you boot, but it will still let you boot into Windows and every thing seems fine. How serious are these warning messages? Do we really need to immediately replace the hard drive?

    I've migrated Observium monitoring platform from CentOS 6.5 to CentOS 7 and I've noticed high CPU usage mostly caused by PHP, the CPU load increase when pooling script is running (poller-wrapper.py). Both VMs are running on the same physical host (KVM hypervisor) with exactly the same spec. I also tested this with a simple PHP benchmark script and CentOS 7 is slower - is it strictly related to PHP version (5.4.30 vs 5.4.16)?   • BSOD 0x000000f4(Probably caused by : wininit.exe)

    I have BSOD with 0x000000f4 code. It appears when system is not loaded at all. No new hardware where intalled. Only nvidia drivers where updated 3 days ago and they are up to date for now(version 296.10).   • Dell XPS Problem

    Hi, Yesterday, my mom dropped her laptop to the floor and got the blue screen of death after trying to boot the system. I was able to start fedora live CD and get some of her stuff off the hard drive, but I cannot seem to be able to install Windows on it. The installation starts loading files and then the computer turns off. I am thinking that she might need a new hard drive. Any ideas?

  • Wamp website stop responding till restarting services [on hold]

    My first message here after many non conclusive research about my problem. So I'm administering a drupal website and I have migrate all application to new version: PHP 5.3.5 - 5.4.16 Apache 2.2.17 - 2.4.4 MySQL 5.1.36 - 5.6.12 With the new Wamp version. Also update Drupal from 6.19 to 6.30. I have update it by uninstalling everything in the server and reinstalling the new version. Since this update the website sometimes become unresponsive till we restart wamp. No warrning and no error in event log. Can somebody help me with this problem? I also cannot enable SSL, after configuring it wamp won't start. I have do many research and test but I still have many issue.     I am working on an MVC project in Visual Studio 2010 with .NET Framework 4.0 + MVC2 and everything works if I set the target framework to .NET 4.0. However, my host does not offer .NET 4.0 in order to deploy the site I need to get it working on .NET 3.5. I tried converting it to ASP.NET 3.5 and everything builds just fine except now when I try to load the homepage, I get a 404 Error saying: The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
