• WCF custom certificate validation with BasicHttpBinding

  I have a WCF application hosted on IIS 6 that needs to Have 2-way SSL authentication Validate client certificate content with some client host information Validate client certificate is issued by the valid subCA. I was able to do 1) successfully. I am trying to achieve 2) and 3) by following this - basically creating a class that inherits X509CertificateValidator and overriding the Validate method with my own validation implementation(step 2 and 3). I followed the MSDN instructions exactly however, it seem that the Validate method is not being called. I purposely throw a SecurityAccessDeniedException in the overidden Validate method and no exception is thrown when I tried to access the service via my browser. I can still access my website with any client certificate. I also read this thread but it didn't really help. Any help would be greatly appreciated! • WCF/C# Unable to catch EndpointNotFoundException

  Hi all, I have created a WCF service and client and all works until it come to catching errors. Specifically I am try to catch the EndpointNotFoundException for when the server happens not to be there for whatever reason, I have tried performing a simple try catch block catching the specific error and the communication exception it derives from and I've tried catching just Exception. None of these succeed in catching the exception, however I do get A first chance exception of type 'System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException' occurred in System.ServiceModel.dll in the output window when the client tries to open the service. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

• soapUI - any way to automatically generate input data?

  I've just started looking at soapUI, and it seems to be a pretty good web service testing tool. It can automatically generate request SOAP messages with all the elements from the WSDL in there, no problem. However, what would be splendid is if it could automatically generate sample random input data, using the WSDL as a guide. For example, if my service is expecting a string, an enumeration, and a date-time, it seems like it wouldn't be too hard for the tool to generate one or more messages with valid values. Is such a feature available in soapUI, either natively or as a plug-in, or am I over-simplifying this?

• Networking is disabled after installing Maverick

  I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat). Everything was working fine. Then I just started up the computer again, and the networking doesn't work. The network manager applet says "Networking disabled". The button is disabled, so I can't enable it. This question seems to be basically the same issue I have. managed in was set to false, but changing it to true does not fix the problem. Is there any other way to fix this problem?

Boxes being used: Web Box SQL Box SQL Test Box My Application: I've got aASP.NET Web Application, which references a class library that uses LINQ-to-SQL. Connection string set up properly in the class library. As per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/97594/login-failed-for-user-username-system-data-sqlclient-sqlexception-with-linq-i I also added this connection string to the Web Application. The connection string uses SQL credentials as so (in both web app and class library): <add name="Namespace.My.MySettings.ConnectionStringProduction" connectionString="Data Source=(SQL Test Box);Initial Catalog=(db name);Persist Security Info=True;User ID=ID;Password=Password" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> This connection confirmed as working via adding it to server explorer. This is the connection string my .dbml file is using. The problem: I get the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\MACHINENAME$'. Now referencing this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1269706/the-error-login-failed-for-user-nt-authority-iusr-in-asp-net-and-sql-server-2 it says that's really the local network service and using any other non-domain name will not work. But I am confused because I've checked both SQL Box and SQL Test Box SQL Management Studio and both have NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE under Security - Logins, at the database level, that isn't listed under Security - Users, but at the database level Security - Users I have the user displayed in the connection string. At NTFS level on web server, the permissions have NETWORK SERVICE has full control. The reason why I am confused is because I have many other web applications on my Web Server, that reference databases on both SQL Box and SQL Test Box, and they all work. But I cannot find a difference between them and my current application, other than I am using a class library. Will that matter? Checking NTFS permissions, setup of Security Logins at the server and databases levels, connection string and method of connecting (SQL Server credentials), and IIS application pool and other folder options, are all the same. Why do these applications work without adding the machinename$ to the permissions of either of my SQL boxes? But that is what the one link is telling me to do to fix this problem.

• JSF Portlets in Liferay on JBoss

  I'm currently looking at working with and deploying JSF portlets into Liferay 6.0.5, sitting on JBoss 5.1.0. I ran into a lot of trouble trying to port some JSF-y/Seam-y/EJB-y stuff I had lying around, so I thought I'd start simple and work my way up. I could generate generic portlets using the NetBeans Maven archetype for Liferay portlets absolutely fine, but it's rather irrelevant because I wanted JSF portlets I took an example JSF portlet from http://www.liferay.com/downloads/liferay-portal/community-plugins/-/software_catalog/products/5546866 and attempted to deploy into a clean, vanilla installation of Liferay 6.0.5/JBoss 5.1.0 to no avail. The log messages are reproduced at the end of this. This particular example was actually tested for GlassFish and Tomcat, so it's not particularly helpful considering I'm deplying into JBoss. • Droid's mediaserver dies on camera.takePicture()

  On Motorola Droid, Firmware 2.1-update1, Kernel 2.9.29-omap1, Build # ESE81 When attempting to take a picture, mediaserver dies with a segmentation fault. I've tried putting takePicture in a timer and running it a few seconds after camera initialization to check for race conditions, but no change. Just calling Camera.open() doesn't cause the crash. Also, calling Camera.open() causes what I think is the autofocus motor to make a sort of ticking sound. The value lookup can be configured to be displayed as a select list, combo box, input list of values or combo box with list of values. Displaying the list in an af:inputListOfValues component shows the attribute value in an input text field and with an icon attached to it for the user to launch the list-of-values dialog. The list-of-values dialog allows users to use a search form to filter the lookup data list and to select an entry, which return value then is added as the value of the af:inputListOfValues component. Note: The model driven LOV can be configured in ADF Business Components to update multiple attributes with the user selection, though the most common use case is to update the value of a single attribute. A question on OTN was how to access the row of the selected return value on the ADF Faces front end. For this, you need to know that there is a Model property defined on the af:inputListOfValues that references the ListOfValuesModel implementation in the model. It is the value of this Model property that you need to get access to. The af:inputListOfValues has a ReturnPopupListener property that you can use to configure a managed bean method to receive notification when the user closes the LOV popup dialog by selecting the Ok button. This listener is not triggered when the cancel button is pressed. The managed bean signature can be created declaratively in Oracle JDeveloper 11g using the Edit option in the context menu next to the ReturnPopupListener field in the PropertyInspector. The empty method signature looks as shown below public void returnListener(ReturnPopupEvent returnPopupEvent) { } The ReturnPopupEvent object gives you access the RichInputListOfValues component instance, which represents the af:inputListOfValues component at runtime. From here you access the Model property of the component to then get a handle to the CollectionModel. The CollectionModel returns an instance of JUCtrlHierBinding in its getWrappedData method. Though there is no tree binding definition for the list of values dialog defined in the PageDef, it exists. Once you have access to this, you can read the row the user selected in the list of values dialog. • How to use integrated Intel graphics instead of Nvidia graphics on MacBook Pro?

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on MacBook Pro 15" 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) and I would like to use the integrated Intel graphics instead of the dedicated Nvidia graphics Ubuntu boots with on this machine. I am booting with UEFI, not REFIT or similar. I managed to switch to UEFI with the help of this page. This wiki page also contains tips on switching to Intel graphics which include some (for me) cryptic boot commands to grub. However if I follow the guide, my display stays just black. Currently, I am only looking for solution to use Intel graphics for Ubuntu to save power and keep my MacBook cool. Dynamic switching or stuff like that is not required.

• WCF <operation>Async methods not generated in proxy interface

  I want to use the Asnyc methods rather than the Begin on my WCF service client proxy because I'm updating WPF controls and need to make sure they're being updated from the UI thread. I could use the Dispatcher class to queue items for the UI thread but that's not what I'm asking about.. I've configured the service reference to generate the asynchronous operations, but it only generates the methods in proxy's implementation, not it's interface. The interface only contains syncronous and Begin methods. Why aren't these methods generated in the interface and is there a way to do this, or do I have to create a derived interface to manually add them?

EDIT2: This does appear to be due to a change in SharePoint. I loaded a previous version of my software (known to be working), and it exhibits the same erroneous behavior.

• Reset MAAS after loosing Juju configuration?

  I managed to delete my Juju client cofiguration without running a juju destroy-environment first, leaving my MaaS in a state where I could not deploy to it. I would get the following (conflicting) output $ juju bootstrap ERROR environment is already bootstrapped $ juju status ERROR Unable to connect to environment "". Please check your credentials or use 'juju bootstrap' to create a new environment. Error details: no instances found So, I tried running juju destroy-environment with the new config, to see if it would clean up the old Juju environment on the MaaS system. It gave me the error "ERROR gomaasapi: got error back from server: 409 CONFLICT". I went into the MaaS GUI and stopped the leftover machines, and then deleted all the nodes and had then go through the discovery and commissioning stages again, but I still got the same errors after all that! Is there a way to reset this?

• WCF Data Services consuming data from EF based repository

  We have an existing repository which is based on EF4 / POCO and is working well. We want to add a service layer using WCF Data Services and looking for some best practice advice. So far we have developed a class which has a IQueryable property and the getter triggers the repository 'get all users' method. The problem so far have been two-fold: 1) It required us to decorate the ID field of the poco object to tell data service what field was the id. This now means that our POCO object is not 'pure'. 2) It cannot figure out the relationships between the objects (which is obvious i guess). I've now stopped this approach and i'm thinking that maybe we should expose the OBjectContext from the repository and use more 'automatic' functionality of EF. Has anybody got any advice or examples of using the repository pattern with WCF Data Services ?

• Session variable in WCF application

  I need to use or stimulate a very simple session object inside my WCF app. I simply need to store some values at the beginning of a call and I need access to these values while I go through some different methods of my service. Asp.NET session would be very ideal to use for this so I need to find out what is available on a WCF app for storing such values. Note: this is just a per call session, I don't need to retain this session between different calls from the client to service and such..

• WCF REST Compression

  I have a REST service that returns a large chunk of XML, about 150k worth. e.g. http://xmlservice.com/services/RestService.svc/GetLargeXML Therefore I want to compress the response from the server, as GZIP should reduce this to something much smaller. Having searched everywhere I cannot for the life of me find an example of how to perform compression for WCF REST services. Help!! NOTE: My service is hosted by a third party and I CANNOT do this via IIS as it is not supported by them.

• Configuring a WCF Client to Use UserName Credentials On the Request and Check Certificate Credential

  I'm trying to use WCF to consume a web service provided by a third-party's Oracle Application Server. I pass a username and password in a UsernameToken as part of the request and as part of the response the web service returns a standard security tag in the header which includes a digest and signature. With my current setup, I successfully send a request to the server and the web service sends the expected response data back. However, when parsing the response WCF throws a MessageSecurityException, with an InnerException.Message of "Supporting token signatures not expected." My guess is that WCF wants me to configure it to handle the signature and verify it. I have a certificate from the third party that hosts the web service that I should be able to use to verify the signature, although I'm not sure if I'll need it. • 6 Reasons Why You Can’t Move Your Cell Phone To Any Carrier You Want

  You can buy a laptop or Wi-Fi tablet and use it on Wi-Fi anywhere in the world, so why are cell phones and devices with mobile data not portable between different cellular networks in the same country? Unlike with Wi-Fi, there are many different competing cellular network standards — both around the world and within countries. Cellular carriers also like locking you to their specific network and making it difficult to move. That’s what contracts are for. Phone Locking Many phones are sold locked to a specific network. When you buy a phone from a cellular carrier, they often lock that phone to their network so you can’t take it to a competitor’s network. That’s why you’ll often need to unlock a phone before you can move it to a different cellular provider or take it to a different country and use it on a local provider instead of roaming. Cellular carriers will generally unlock your phone for you as long as you’re no longer in a contract with them. However, unlocking a cell phone you’ve paid for without your carrier’s permission is currently a crime in the USA. GSM vs. CDMA Some cellular networks use the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) standard, while some use CDMA (Code-division multiple access). Worldwide, most cellular networks use GSM. In the USA, both GSM and CDMA are popular. Verizon, Sprint, and other carriers that use their networks use CDMA. AT&T, T-Mobile, and other carriers that use their networks are use GSM. These are two competing standards and are not interoperable. This means you can’t simply take a phone from Verizon to T-Mobile, or from AT&T to Sprint. These carriers have incompatible phones. CDMA Restrictions CDMA is more restricted than GSM. GSM phones have SIM cards. Simply open the phone, pop out the SIM card, and pop in a new SIM card to switch carriers. (In reality, it’s more complicated thanks to phone locking and other factors here.) CDMA phones don’t have removable modules like this. All CDMA phones ship locked to a specific network and you’d have to get both your old carrier and your new carrier to cooperate to switch phones between them. In reality, many people just consider CDMA phones eternally locked to a specific carrier. Frequencies Different cellular networks throughout the USA and the rest of the world use different frequencies. These radio frequencies have to be supported by your phone’s hardware or your phone simply can’t work on a network using those frequencies. Many GSM phones support three or four bands of frequencies — 900/1800/1900 MHz, 850/1800/1900 MHz, or 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. These are sometimes called “world phones” because they allow easier roaming. This allows the manufacturer to produce a phone that will support all GSM networks in the world and allows their customers to travel with those phones. If your phone doesn’t support the appropriate frequencies, it won’t work on certain networks. LTE Bands When it comes to newer, faster LTE networks, different frequencies are still a concern. LTE frequencies are generally known as “LTE bands.” To use a smartphone on a certain LTE network, that smartphone will have to support that LTE network’s frequency. Different models of phones are often created to work on different LTE networks around the world. However, phones are generally supporting more and more LTE networks and becoming more and more interoperable over time. SIM Card Sizes The SIM cards used in GSM phones come in different sizes. Newer phones use smaller SIM cards to save space and be more compact. This isn’t a big obstacle, as the different sizes of SIM cards — full-size SIM, mini-SIM, micro-SIM, and nano-SIM are actually compatible. The only difference between them is the size of the plastic card surrounding the SIM’s chip. The actual chip is the same size between all the SIM cards. This means you can take an old SIM card and cut the plastic off until it becomes a smaller-size SIM card that fits in a modern phone. Or, you can take a smaller-size SIM card and insert it into a tray so that it becomes a larger-size SIM card that fits in an older phone. Be aware that it’s very possible to damage your SIM card and make it not work properly by cutting it to the wrong dimensions. Your cellular carrier will often be able to cut your SIM card for you or give you a new one if you want to use an old SIM card in a new phone. Hopefully they won’t overcharge you for this service, too. Be sure to check what types of networks, frequencies, and LTE bands your phone supports before trying to move it between networks. • ColdFusion 9 Cluster with IIS7.5

  Does anyone know of a step by step process of setting up a ColdFusion 9 cluster using IIS 7.5? Either failover or network load balance would be nice. Without IIS being clusterable in Windows 2008 R2, I'm not sure of the best means to configure the web server and ColdFusion service. Some of the things I'm looking for are..... With load balancing, what do you use out in front of the servers as a load balancer? If you're using a network share on a clustered file server for the website data files, how do you configure the ColdFusion service to run so that it has network access instead of running as Local System?
