  • Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1 released to manufacturers

    SP1 went RTM today which means it will be widely available soon. According  to the Microsoft server division blog, the service pack will be available to Microsoft's TechNet and MSDN subscribers, as well as to Microsoft volume licensing customers, on Feb. 16, 2011.   • Windows: "net use" equivalent that shows the username used to mount a share?

    Sometimes you need to use different credentials to map different shares, for instance net use z: \\myserver\myshare /user:mydomain\myusername mypassword You can use net use to show you the shares that are mapped, but it does not show the mydomain\myusername. What can I use to show that information? I'm looking for output like this from the imaginary command NetUseX: H:\>NetUseX New connections will be remembered.     A while back, maybe 6 months, I got some bad news about 2010.  Microsoft was removing Office from the MOSS equivalent of 2010, so basically my alias would be obsolete the second 2010 caught on in the community.  I thought about it for some time.  I had some discussions with friends in the community.  I even noticed that the MOSSMan changed his twitter id.  I started my blog around a WSS 3.0 project when I worked for LRS in there St. Louis Office in February/March 2007.  So I think it’s fitting to keep the name, because my community involvement centers around 2007.  My first ever speaking ordeal was at the Kansas City Office Geeks meeting in November of 2007 on Disaster Recovery where about three people attended.  The first user group meeting I ever attended was around the month of June 2007 at the KC .Net User Group about two weeks after my braces were installed.  It’s definitely fitting to say that 2007 paved the way for everything that happened in the past 2/2 1/2 years.  If anyone asks what MOSSLover means I added a description on twitter and I also added my name.  I added my name for other reasons, because I’m sick of people thinking I am the guy in the photo.  Also, I’d like people to recognize me for who I am.  Everyone should expect less of the hat in the upcoming year and more of my hair.  I’ve taken a vow to wear the hat less and less this year.  I am sick of buying hats, plus I want to move forward to gain more self confidence.  The hat does not really help.  I will still wear a t-shirt and jeans in most of my presentations.  That is who I am and it will not change any time soon.  If you expect to see me in a skirt good luck with that as it won’t be happening unless I am forced at gun point.  I hope you guys have a good weekend.  Later all… Technorati Tags: MOSSLover,Cardinal's Hat,Becky Isserman

    I'm managing a Server Core machine and trying to do everything in PowerShell, which is fun. I need a list of the default documents. From other websites, I've found out how to set and remove them, using both xxx-WebConfiguration and xxx-WebConfigurationProperty.   • Listing Desktop Apps in the Windows 8 Store

    So it looks like Microsoft will be allowing publishers to list their desktop apps in the Windows 8 Store.  As per the developer agreement: b. Desktop App Submission. You may submit an app description for one or more desktop apps to the Windows Store. Notwithstanding anything else in this agreement, you understand that Microsoft will not offer any desktop apps through the Store and only Windows Store apps are made available through the Windows Store. Microsoft may, but is not required to, list the desktop app in the Windows Store together with a link you provide, to a website where users can acquire the app. You are solely responsible and agree to maintain that website and provide an updated link to Microsoft if the url changes. Desktop apps are any apps built using APIs other than the APIs for Windows Store apps that run on Windows 8. As the agreement states, Microsoft will not distribute desktop apps through the store, but they will provide a link to a website where users can download your desktop app.  If nothing else, it is a great way to advertise your app.  Hopefully this doesn’t cause any confusion with consumers.  Will end users understand why some apps install automatically while others just send you to a website?

  • TFS Backup Plan Wizard Tool

    With the release of the “September – 2010” TFS 2010 Power Tools, came an addition to the Team Foundation Server Administration Console.  This addition is the Team Foundation Backups Tree item.  The tool is used to create backup plans and to work with it you run through a wizard, just like you would in configuring TFS or any of the extensions it has. The areas covered through the tool include: Backup to a Network Backup Path, retention configuration. Under Advanced Options, the extension to be used for the Full and Transactional backups. The capability to include external databases, meaning, include the reporting databases and SharePoint databases as part of the plan. There are further options as you can see, that includes being able to define a task scheduler account, be able to set alerts for notifications on execution of the plans, and last the option to configure the schedule for the plan execution.  All in all a very good tool and great way to safeguard the investment you’ve made.

    Hi All,   Sysprep creates a snapshot of a virtual machine with BizTalk Server 2010 installed for quick deployment on other virtual machines   Prerequisites Before using Sysprep, you should have some knowledge of using virtual machines with Hyper-V. You should also have a virtual machine with a clean, typical installation of BizTalk Server and all of its prerequisites. Sysprep will run on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista with SP1. Description Sysprep creates a VHD of a BizTalk Server 2010 installation (including the operating system and all prerequisites) for quick deployment on other virtual machines. An image created using Sysprep will choose a new computer name in order to join the domain the first time it starts. To get BizTalk Server running properly, it is necessary to update various instances of the computer name that are stored in the registry and databases.
