• Is it immoral to put a captcha on a login form?

  In a recent project I put a captcha test on a login form, in order to stop possible brute force attacks. The immediate reaction of other coworkers was a request to remove it, saying that it was inapropiate for that purpose, and that it was quite exotic to see a captcha in that place. I've seen captcha images on signup, contact, password recovery forms, etc. So I personally don't see inapropiate to put a captcha also on a place like that. Well, it obviously burns down usability a little bit, but it's a matter of time and getting used to it. With the lack of a captcha test, one would have to put some sort of blacklist / account locking mechanism, which also has some drawbacks. Is it a good choice for you? Am I getting somewhat captcha-aholic and need some sort of group therapy? Thanks in advance.

• C# Bug or Brain Teaser? Cast working only with Coalesce (??) Operator

  This is very strange, maybe someone can explain what's happening, or this is a bug (though I tend to think that this is probably just something intricate about C#). The following code throws the error "Cannot implicitly convert type 'uint?' to 'uint'.": public void Test(UInt32? p) { UInt32 x = p; } However, this code works without error: public void Test(UInt32? p) { UInt32 x = p ?? 1; } Huh? Why does this work? Why would the coalesce operator cause implicit conversion of UInt32? (nullable) to UInt32 (non-nullable), while the first error message says that there is no implicit conversion between those types?

  I have a few images that i need to upload using an online form. The problem is that the data is completed correctly on the form but the images are not uploaded. Can anyone help with advices/code/guidance?

• Unit testing with serialization mock objects in C++

  Greetings, I'm fairly new to TDD and ran across a unit test that I'm not entirely sure how to address. Basically, I'm testing a couple of legacy class methods which read/write a binary stream to a file. The class functions take a serializable object as a parameter, which handles the actual reading/writing to the file. For testing this, I was thinking that I would need a serialization mock object that I would pass to this function. My initial thought was to have the mock object hold onto a (char*) which would dynamically allocate memory and memcpy the data. However, it seems like the mock object might be doing too much work, and might be beyond the scope of this particular test. Is my initial approach correct, or can anyone think of another way of correctly testing this? Thanks!

  I have a feeling I'm either misunderstanding the 'stop' event or not doing it right, but it seems to be called several times while the element is bound to is being dragged. makeAllDragable = function () { $(".test-table").draggable({ start: function (event, ui) { $(this).click(); }, stop: function (event, ui) { foo() } }).click(function () { selectTable($(this)); }); } foo = function () { alert("test"); } In this example foo is called about 30 times, shouldn't is just be when I release the draggable? The jQuery docs don't actually say one where or another though.

• Is my code really not unit-testable?

  A lot of code in a current project is directly related to displaying things using a 3rd-party 3D rendering engine. As such, it's easy to say "this is a special case, you can't unit test it". But I wonder if this is a valid excuse... it's easy to think "I am special" but rarely actually the case. Are there types of code which are genuinely not suited for unit-testing? By suitable, I mean "without it taking longer to figure out how to write the test than is worth the effort"... dealing with a ton of 3D math/rendering it could take a lot of work to prove the output of a function is correct compared with just looking at the rendered graphics.

• jMeter not able to login to wordpress

  I am trying to create a jMeter test to login to wordpress and post a new blog on a local installation of wordpress. Recorded wordpress login sequence using the recorder. Added cookie manager to the test plan. However I am not able to login to wordpress. I tried all the possible of combination of Cookie policy and Implementation settings for Cookie manager, but it did not help. When I recorded against the publicly hosted wordpress, the login did not succeed, but the response had an error saying that your browser have not enabled cookies. I am using jMeter 2.11 on Windows 7.

• Permissions error for a signed Java applet when including external JAR files

  I have a signed Java applet. And it works fine. But now I have to integrate some 3rd party JAR files with it. When I test it from Eclipse, the whole thing works correctly. But when I test it as an applet, it gives me a FilePermission error. I thought this was because those 3rd party JAR files don't have a java.policy.applet within them. But manually adding the policy file doesn't get rid of the error. What am I missing? • Regular Expression - Password Validation is not working

  Hi, I have to validate the password using regex. The password rule is like at least 1 uppercase and at least 2 numeric. It works fine except if the character comes at the end of the string. The regular expression which i am using is "^(?=.*\d.{2})(?=.*[A-Z].{1})(?=.*[@#$%^&+=].{2}).{8,12}$" Rules: minimum length = 8 minimum uppercase = 1 minimum numeric = 2 minimum special character = 1 It works for Test123$$, Test$123, TEST123$s, Test123$1, Test12$3 but it fails if the character specified comes at the end of the string like Test123$, Test$a12, Test12aa@, 123aa@@T. Please let me know if there is any fix for this.

  Hello, a few weeks ago a co-worker of mine spent about two hours finding out why this piece of C++/CLI code won't compile with Visual Studio 2008 (I just tested it with Visual Studio 2010... same story). public ref class Test { generic<class T> where T : value class void MyMethod(Nullable<T> nullable) { } }; The compiler says: Error 1 error C3214: 'T' : invalid type argument for generic parameter 'T' of generic 'System::Nullable', does not meet constraint 'System::ValueType ^' C:\Users\Simon\Desktop\Projektdokumentation\GridLayoutPanel\Generics\Generics.cpp 11 1 Generics Adding ValueType will make the code compile. public ref class Test { generic<class T> where T : value class, ValueType void MyMethod(Nullable<T> nullable) { } }; My question is now. • Django refresh page if change data by other user

  I have a test django app. In one page the test show the same question to all users. I'd like that when a user answers correctly, send a signal to other active user's browser to refresh to the next question. I have been learning about signals in django I learning work with them but I don't now how send the "refresh signal" to client browser. I think that it can do with a javascript code that check if a certain value (actual question) change and if change reload the page but I don't know this language and the information that I find was confused.   Hello, now this is embarrassing. I'm writing quick script and I can't figure out why this statement don't work. if [ $(pidof -x test.sh | wc -w) -eq 1 ]; then echo Passed; fi I also tried using back-ticks instead of $() but it still wouldn't work. Can you see what is wrong with it? pidof -x test.sh | wc -w returns 1 if I run it inside of script, so I don't see any reason why basically if [ 1 -eq 1 ] wouldn't pass. Thanks a lot!

• Get/save parameters to an expected JMock method call?

  Hi, I want to test an "Adapter" object that when it receives an xml message, it digest it to a Message object, puts message ID + CorrelationID both with timestamps and forwards it to a Client object.=20 A message can be correlated to a previous one (e.g. m2.correlationID =3D m1.ID). I mock the Client, and check that Adapter successfully calls "client.forwardMessage(m)" twice with first message with null correlationID, and a second with a not-null correlationID. However, I would like to precisely test that the correlationIDs are set correctly, by grabing the IDs (e.g. m1.ID). But I couldn't find anyway to do so. There is a jira about adding the feature, but no one commented and it is unassigned. Is this really unimplemented? I read about the alternative of redesigning the Adapter to use an IdGenerator object, which I can stub, but I think there will be too many objects.=20 Don't you think it adds unnecessary complexity to split objects to a so fine granularity?   Attempting to implement a poor man's test of whether a process is still running or not (essentially an equivalent of the trivial kill(pid, 0).) Hoped to be able to simply call OpenProcess with some minimal desired access then test for either GetLastError() == ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER or GetExitCodeProcess(...) != STILL_ACTIVE. Nice try... Running on Windows XP, as administrator: HANDLE hProc = OpenProcess(PROCESS_QUERY_INFORMATION, FALSE, pid); if (!hProc) { DWORD dwLastError = GetLastError(); } ...fails miserably with dwLastError == ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED when pid is owned by a different (not SYSTEM) user. Moreover, if pid was originally owned by a different user but has since terminated, OpenProcess also fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED (not ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER.) • Is it possible to use Django's testing framework without having CREATE DATABASE rights?

  Since I don't have a hundred bazillion dollars, my Django app lives on a shared host, where all kinds of crazy rules are in effect. Fortunately, they gave me shell access, which has allowed me to kick butts and take names. However I can't do anything about not having CREATE DATABASE rights. I'm using postgresql and have a killer test suite, but am unable to run it due to the code not being able to create a new database. However I am able to create said database beforehand via cPanel and use it with Django. I just don't have CREATE DATABASE rights. Is there a way I can still run my test suite?

• Cascading Dropdown Listboxes with Selenium

  I am having great difficultly testing cascading dropdown boxes with Selenium. I would like to know what the standard approach is for this. I'm a bit unclear as to which commands to use i.e. ClickAndWait, WaitForTextPresent etc. It seems a little bit of a hack to try and get this to work. Has anyone got selenium to correctly test this out? An example scenario would be to have 3 listboxes which have Car Make, Model and Colour. Each one is populated in turn by the other. Selenium needs to somehow wait for the next listbox to populate before preceeding with the test.

  I know MD5's safety is under question lately and this is the reason a lot of people are using salt (I dont understand this at all btw) but I was wondering if you wanted to easily implement a safe system in php can you just md5 something twice? like test 098f6bcd4621d373cade4e832627b4f6 fb469d7ef430b0baf0cab6c436e70375 So basically: $val = 'test'; $val = md5($val); $val = md5($val); Would that solve the whole rainbow security stuff? Is there an easy/noob proof way of making secure database passwords in php?
