• Using JQuery to traverse DOM structure, finding a specific <table> element located after HTML 'comme

  I currently have a website source code (no control over the source) which contains certain content that needs to be manipulated. This would be simple on the surface, however there is no unique ID attribute on the tag in question that can uniquely identify it, and therefore allow for further traversal. Here is a snippet of the source code, surrounding the tag in question. ... <td width="100%"> <!--This table snaps the content columns(one or two)--> <table border="0" width="100%"> ... Essentially, the HTML comment stuck out as an easy way to gain access to that element. Using the JQuery comment add-on from this question, and some help from snowlord comment below, I have been able to identify the comment and retrieve the following output using the 'dump' extension. $('td').comments().filter(":contains('This table snaps the content columns(one or two)')").dump(); returns; jQuery Object { 0 = DOMElement [ nodeName: DIV nodeValue: null innerHTML: [ 0 = String: This table snaps the content columns(one or two) ] ] } However I am not sure how to traverse to the sibling element in the DOM. This should be simple, but I haven't had much selector experience with JQuery. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  Using ImageMagick, how can I resize an image to have a minimum: height of 150px width of 200px and also have a maximum: height of 225px width of 275px UPDATE: In case it helps, here's a further explanation of what I'm experiencing. I have a buch of images with all different ratio dimensions. Some images have 1:5 height/width ratios. Some have 5:1 height/width ratios. So that I want to do is set that a minimum height/width size for the image but also don't want the image size to be larger than a particular size. If I need to apply white padding to an image to make it fit within my constraint so that I don't have to distort the image, I'd like to do so.

  Dear all,Now i have this question in my java program,I think it should be classified as URL problem,but not 100% sure.If you think I am wrong,feel free to recategorize this problem,thanks. I would state my problem as simply as possible. I did a search on the famouse Chinese search engine baidu.com for a Chinese key word "???" (Obama in English),and the way I do that is to pass a URL (in a Java Program)to the browser like: http://news.baidu.com/ns?word=??? and it works perfectly just like I input the "???”keyword in the text field on baidu.com. However,now my advisor wants another thing.Since he can not read the Chinese webpages,but he wants to make sure the webpages I got from Baidu.com is related to "Obama",he asked me to google translate it back,i.e,using google translate and translate the Chinese webpage to English one. This sounds straightforward.However,I met my problem here. If I simply pass the URL "http://news.baidu.com/ns?word=???" into Google Translate and tick "Chinese to English" translating option,the result looks awful.(I don't know the clue here,maybe related to Chinese character encoding). Alternatively,if now my browser opens ""http://news.baidu.com/ns?word=???" webpage,but I click on the "????" button (that simply means "search"),you will notice the URL will get changed,now if I pass this URL into the Google translate and do the same thing,the result works much better. I hope I am not making this problem sound too complicated,and I appologize for some Chinese words invovled,but I really need your guys' help here.Becasue I did all this in a Java program,I couldn't figure out how to realize that "????"(pressing search button) step then get the new URL.If I could get that new URL,things are easy,I could just call Google translate in my Java code,and pops out the new window to show my advisor. • After travelling back in Firefox history, javascript won't run.

  When I use the back button on Firefox to reach a previously visited page, scripts on that page won't run again. Is there any fix/workaround to have the scripts execute again when viewing the page the second time? Please note that I have tested the same pages on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and they work as intended. • Hiding user interface parts in WSS 3.0 webpart - how?

  Hi, I have a webpart with asp.net control within. I would like to hide some parts of that control, some asp:net panels etc. regarding one of the TextBox's value. The issue is that I don't know to change the visibility of asp:panel wrapper without any postback, and how to refresh page to see the changes on the UI. I was trying to implement TextChanged event but it dosen't work. Can anybody help me, please?

  I'm trying to retrieve data from a php file named return that contains <?php echo 'here is a string'; ?>. I'm doing this through an html file containing ` div { color:blue; } span { color:red; } var x; $.get("return.php", function(data){ x = data; }) function showAlert() {alert(x);} $(document).ready(function(){ alert(x); }); ` When the button is clicked it retrieves and displays the code fine, but on the page loading, it displays "undefined" instead of the data in return.php. Any solutions?

• RoR app running on mongrel development but not production

  Hello all, This is my first stab at Ruby on Rails. Just deployed a very simple app to Heroku. The thing is that my app runs flawlessly on mongrel development; When I run it with "mongrel_rails start -e production" however, I get the error "We're sorry, but something went wrong." For the life of me, I couldn't debug this. Heroku logs is not returning anything, the Exceptional addon in Heroku is not returning anything, and I cannot find mongrel.log on my Windows machine (when I run mongrel using: mongrel_rails start -e production -d" I'm using Rails 2.3.5 and sqlite3 with bundler to pack my gems. I was told that probably rails is not booting up correctly. I can't find any other way to diagnose this. Any ideas? Thanks, ANaimi

• tweak CSS to expand header

  for this site: http://yoursdproperty.com/ do you see how there some extra white space all the way at the top? how would i expand that image to get rid of that space? The weird thing is that the flash file that runs the header images has already been changed by me to be the width of the page. Something in the CSS though makes it the old size of 940 wide. please note that im only interested in making adjustments to the css or html, not flash or javascript

• How to upload binary (audio) data from a Flash AS3 client to .NET server (WCF/REST/HTTP/?)?

  Simply stated: I'm trying to record audio in a browser, and get that data back up to the server. I originally tried to capture, encode and upload the audio using Silverlight, but because of the lack of suitable client-side encoding options, I'm now giving Flash a shot (Flash has baked-in support for encoding to Speex). I think I've figured out how to capture and encode the audio... But now what was easy in Silverlight, is the challenge in Flash. My server-side is .NET: MVC2- I'm open to receiving the audio in whatever manner is best- REST, WCF.. So that's my question: How could one upload binary data from Flash, to a .NET server-side endpoint. If the answer is WCF: then how would one setup the client-side proxies to communicate with the service? If the answer is REST or HTTP Post, then how would one construct this HTTP request and pass along the data? I've been reading up on AS3, but am new to Flash dev... Thanks for any help!

• connecting to a webservice from android - AsyncTask or Service?

  I'm writing an android app that will connect to a REST/JSON webservice. Users will be retrieving information, uploading comments, downloading and uploading images etc. I know that I shouldn't keep all this network communication in the Activity/UI thread, as it will cause ANRs. What I'm confused about is whether I should use an AsyncTask or a Service with "manual" threading to accomplish this; With a Service, I'd simply have a public method for each method in the webservice's API. I'd then implement threading within each of these methods. If I used an AsyncTask, I would create a helper class that defined AsyncTasks for each method in the webservice's API. Which method is preferred? Interaction with the webservice will only happen while the user is in the Activity. Once they switch to another application, or exit the program, there is no need for communication with the webservice.

• Managing important runtime business logic with regard to a codebase

  I'm working on a project which will end up have a lot of application information stored in the form of records in a database. In this case, it's the configuration of data views: which grid columns to show/hide default filters to apply to each grid view column titles sorting subtotaling ... This information is a big part of the value of the application and is essential to it's function. The data will be altered by admins a fair amount, so it's not static and it wouldn't be appropriate to have to deploy a new version of the app every time the data changes. The question is, Where should this data be stored? It will definitely live in the database because that's how it's accessed, but I feel like it needs to also be kept with the version controlled codebase because it's an integral part of functioning of the application. Has anyone dealt with an issue like this before? What did you end up doing?

• Browser Side Photo Editing Library

  Hi! Currently I'm searching for a free solution to simple edit some photos at the users browser. Resizing and Cropping would be mandatory. I'm not searching for an online service (for example SUMO or PIXLR which are great), because I want to include the software into a WYSIWYG Editor. JavaScript would be really nice, but it would have to work in IE 8. Pixastic is a great example, but works only in modern browsers (not IE 8 :-/) Any suggestions what I could use? Maybe setting up some kind of image processing service with ImageMagick and communicating with it through AJAX could also be an solution? Has anyone gained some experience with such a solution?

• What would be the light way to render a JSP page without an App/Web Server

  First, some background: I will have to work on code for a JSP that will demand a lot of code fixing and testing. This JSP will receive a structure of given objects, and render it according to a couple of rules. What I would like to do, is to write a "Test Server" that would read some mock data out of a fixtures file, and mock those objects into a factory that would be used by the JSP in question. The target App Server is WebSphere and I would like to code, change, code in order to test appropriate HTML rendering. I have done something similar on the past, but the JSP part was just calling a method on a rendering object, so I created an Ad Hoc HTTP server that would read the fixture files, parse it and render HTML. All I had to do was run it inside RAD, change the HTML code and hit F5. So question pretty much goes down to: Is there any stand alone library or lightweight server (I thought of Jetty) that would take a JSP, and given the correct contexts (Request, Response, Session, etc.) render the proper HTML?
