• TDBGrid columns design time or run time?

  I am using TDBGrid for the first time. I didn't even notice the Columns property in the object inspector and everything went just fine: the grid was filled. Then I saw the Columns property and tried it. When I use the object insector to add items to the Columns property of the grid, they do not all of them show up at run time. To me, it looks like the FieldName property is important. It looks like it is correct, but there are no values in some columns. If I leave this property blank (no columns at all) it seems that the control populates it itself at run time and I do see all the columns. I could live with that. When I set column titles at run time it works, but setting column width does not.

I have gone inside this directory and tried to execute cat > wkthumb.cpp - this just hangs for me. In addition, I thought cat was supposed to be used like this: cat file1.txt file2.txt > file3.txt? The above is blank with the first arguments? I am using Fedora Core 10.

Then I created a webView in interface builder and assigned an outlet to it in the viewController.   I would like to fix up some error messages my site generates. Here is the problem: class Brand < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :foo ... end My goal is to make a message "Ticket description is required" instead of "Foo is required" or may not be blank, or whatever. The reason this is so important is because lets say previously the field was ticket_summary. That was great and the server was coded to use that, but now due to crazy-insane business analysts it has been determined that ticket_summary is a poor name, and should be ticket_description. Now I don't necessarily want to have my db be driven by the user requirements for field names, especially since they can change frequently without functionality changes. Is there a mechanism for providing this already?

• PHP string enocding issue - Extra characters appearing

  I see extra characters like â showing because of encoding issues as I found out here - HTML encoding issues - "Â" character showing up instead of "&nbsp;" I understand that if I set the browser meta encoding to UTF-8, these will not affect anything but I need to strip these extra characters from the database for other purposes. For eg. : Text: ↑ should be become Text: ? But if I run it through utf8_decode it gives me Text: ??? For every other occurrence of the â character, it converts properly to a blank space. Any help will be appreciated.

  Is it in any way possible to launch an activity from the main function without having a UI? i.e. is there a way to create a sort of "wrapper" around another activity, i.e. by launching the main activity, it takes you to another activity automatically. If that is not possible, is there a way to remove the main activity from the stack so that clicking the back button does not take you to a blank UI?   I Have a script, getting text from DB and post it on other DB. Problem is, if I have a Text lngen then 840 Words, I can't call this page. Get an error about "Not Found" or "Connection brocken" or what ever. In FF i get no error, only blank page. I found out the Problem is in lenght of the query i send... but how can i fix it??? My it be the Problem, if a query is longer then 6000 Characters?

But it's not working, $iReturnMedia comes back as blank. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

• How do you get good line spacing with lpr?

  I'm using lpr with the following flags: lpr -o cpi=12 -o lpi=8 -o page-left=36 -o page-top=36 -o page-bottom=36 But the lines appear too close together. But if I decrease lpi to 6 or something, the font just gets taller. What I really want is control over the amount of space between the lines. My makeshift solution is to insert blank lines in the document using sed G, but ideally I would like to achieve 1.5 line spacing instead of full double-spaced. Is this possible?

• My dropdownlist is not selecting an item as expected (MVC 1)

  OK so I have 2 pages where this kind of behaviour is implemented. It works on one but doesn't work in another and I have no idea why. Despite the data containing a list of selectitems and one of them is selected the dropdown list is not displaying this selection (ie. it resets to the blank item). I don't know how to further debug this. In my page: <%= Html.DropDownList("CampusId", ViewData.Model.Campuses, new { @class = "large search_box" })%> In my controller. Campuses = AdminRepository .ListAll<Campus>(a => a.Description) .ToSelectListItem<Campus>(a => a.CampusId, a => a.Description, criteria.CampusId, true); I can see that campuses does have the correct list item marked as selected - so why when it is displayed on the page is it no longer marked as selected?! I can't see anything else obviously modifying the list. Thanks :)

  I'll try to make myself clear with an example: Imagine an admin page to add a product to a database (product list). When I open the ADD ITEM page, the item is not yet created (not until I click the submit button), but let's say I want to add categories this product will appear in (with AJAX for example). When I run the AJAX script, i need to tell it which ID (my product) to put these categories in... How should I do this.? Is inserting a blank item in the database (to get mysql_insert_id) when the page opens a good way to do this.? Is it prone to conflicts or errors..? How do you guys do it.?

• IE8 $('body').width() is 0 on $(window).load()

  On $(document).ready I run through a for loop twice and alert out the body's width ($('body').width();) each time through. I get a value I would expect (ex. 1092). On $(window).load I run through another for loop twice, also alerting out the body's width each time through. I get 0 the first time through (and the page looks completely blank behind the alert), and then a value I would expect the second time through (ex. 1092). This is an issue I am not able to replicate in a stripped-down example, nor any other browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE9, IE10). Does anyone have any ideas, or other things that I could test for? I am using $(window).load to cut up some divs based on their width, which is based on their font size, which is based on a webfont (which isn't necessarily loaded by the time $(document).ready fires).

This is a university program, everything is working fine except when I call my :forLoop method to iterate through 100 numbers (1,1,100) starting at 1 going by 1 til 100 and doing the iteration % 5 (i%%5). for some reason I cannot get this to work. appreciate any help or direction. The form works perfectly until I introduce < or > into the field. Then I end up on a blank page having skipped the Action altogether. Need more information? Have any suggestions? Please help!

This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. Is this a Windows vs. Unix linebreak problem? • Network Logon Issues with Group Policy and Network

  I am gravely in need of your help and assistance. We have a problem with our logon and startup to our Windows 7 Enterprise system. We have more than 3000 Windows Desktops situated in roughly 20+ buildings around campus. Almost every computer on campus has the problem that I will be describing. I have spent over one month peering over etl files from Windows Performance Analyzer (A great product) and hundreds of thousands of event logs. I come to you today humbled that I could not figure this out. The problem as simply put our logon times are extremely long. An average first time logon is roughly 2-10 minutes depending on the software installed. All computers are Windows 7, the oldest computers being 5 years old. Startup times on various computers range from good (1-2 minutes) to very bad (5-60). Our second time logons range from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. We have a gigabit connection between each computer on the network. We have 5 domain controllers which also double as our DNS servers. Initial testing led us to believe that this was a software problem. So I spent a few days testing machines only to find inconsistent results from the etl files from xperfview. Each subset of computers on campus had a different subset of software issues, none seeming to interfere with logon just startup. So I started looking at our group policy and located some very interesting event ID’s. Group Policy 1129: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. Group Policy 1055: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). NETLOGON 5719 : This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain OURDOMAIN due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. E1kexpress 27: Intel®82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection – Network link is disconnected. NetBT 4300 – The driver could not be created. WMI 10 - Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. More or less with timestamps it becomes apparent that the network maybe the issue. 1:25:57 - Group Policy is trying to discover the domain controller information 1:25:57 - The network link has been disconnected 1:25:58 - The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has successfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator. 1:25:58 - Making LDAP calls to connect and bind to active directory. DC1.ourdomain.edu 1:25:58 - Call failed after 0 milliseconds. 1:25:58 - Forcing rediscovery of domain controller details. 1:25:58 - Group policy failed to discover the domain controller in 1030 milliseconds 1:25:58 - Periodic policy processing failed for computer OURDOMAIN\%name%$ in 1 seconds. 1:25:59 - A network link has been established at 1Gbps at full duplex 1:26:00 - The network link has been disconnected 1:26:02 - NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of discovery error.
