• SQL Server Data Tools–BI for Visual Studio 2013 Re-released

  Customers used to complain that the tooling for creating BI projects (Analysis Services MD and Tabular, Reporting Services, and Integration services) has been based on earlier versions of Visual Studio than the ones they were using for their other work in Visual Studio (such as C#, VB, and ASP.NET projects). To alleviate that problem, the shipment of those tools has been decoupled from the shipment of the SQL Server product. In SQL Server 2014, the BI tooling isn’t even included in the released version of SQL Server. This allows the team to keep up-to-date with the releases of Visual Studio. A little while back, I was really pleased to see that the Visual Studio 2013 update for SSDT-BI (SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence) had been released.   I saw an MSDN Forum post today, so I looked for a ListInstance Hidden property in SharePoint 2007 features.  There is none, but interestingly enough there is one in 2010.  I wondered what would happen if you did this: <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">   <ListInstance            FeatureId="00bfea71-de22-43b2-a848-c05709900100"            Title="Hidden List Test"            Description="Testing a hidden list."            TemplateType="100"            Hidden="TRUE"            OnQuickLaunch="FALSE"            Url="Lists/TestHidden" /> </Elements> It hides the entire list from SharePoint Designer and the browser, however you can hit the list by typing in the url in internet explorer.  Pretty cool stuff.  Enjoy guys. • 12.04 - Connecting Acer X203H monitor to new Dell XPS 15z laptop

  I have installed the latest version of Ubuntu (12.04) on my boyfriend's new Dell XPS 15z laptop. He uses a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, and an Acer X203H monitor with his set-up. No problems with the keyboard or mouse, or with connecting the HP printer, but we just can't get the laptop to talk to the Acer monitor. With his old setup he used a VGA cable to connect machine & monitor. New laptop has no VGA port, but we've bought a VGA to HDMI adaptor to connect to the laptop. Have tried using Fn F2 to change the display from laptop to monitor, but it doesn't see the monitor at all. HELP! Is there a driver I can install from somewhere? Or how can I tell Ubuntu to look for the monitor on another port? Completely in the dark, and about to get in trouble!! Thanks

• Desktop Apps in the Windows 8 Store?!?! That&rsquo;s Impossible!!!

  Or is it? Since Microsoft announced the Windows Store, the official word has been that desktop apps could not be distributed in the store.  But this morning I noticed this: That’s odd, but after clicking on one of these, I see that all it does is link to the website where you download Visual Studio So really, it’s not a desktop app in the store.  It’s more of an ad for a desktop app. Interestingly enough, despite the menu being ALL CAPS, Visual Studio 2012 is getting a nearly solid 5/5 stars.

  If you ask me what was my Mix10 coup de coeur, I’d have to say Bill Buxton.  I was privileged to spend an hour an a half in a small room with about twelve people and Bill Buxton.  This man has such a incredible background and he is so inspiring.  You could really tell that he is a researcher because as he was talking about something, you could see him thinking about something else and trying at the same time to cross reference that. • SQL Azure maximum database size rises from 10GB to 50GB in June

• URL Routing in ASP.NET 4.0

  In the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Microsoft introduced ASP.NET Routing, which decouples the URL of a resource from the physical file on the web server. With ASP.NET Routing you, the developer, define routing rules map route patterns to a class that generates the content. • FIX adapter for StreamInsight

  Over the last couple of month, Rapid Addition, a leading FIX and FAST solutions provider for the financial services industry, has been working closely with the StreamInsight team to enable StreamInsight Complex Event Processing queries to receive input feeds from Rapid Addition’s FIX engine and to send result events back into FIX. Earlier today, Toby Corballis from Rapid Addition blogged about these capabilities here on HedgeHogs. We are very excited to demonstrate these capabilities at the SIFMA conference in New York.
