• Hyper-V VMs hanging 10 minutes after startup

  Hyper-V running under a fresh install of 2008 R2 DC 2 VMs both running 2008 R2 STD One VM has SQL 2008 Server w/ SP2 and Office 2007 Enterprise w/ SP2 Othe VMS only Office 2007 w/ SP2. Approximately 10 minutes after reboot the Hyuper-V host the VMs will hang Hang = answers pings, but no RDP connections and Hyper-V console session is non responsive Disabled Hyper-V and had no proble with 2008 R2 DC host. Started the three Hyper-V services and 10 minutes later was hung again. Hardware is HP DL380 G4 2 socket, 48 GB, Internal SAS controller 1.5TB C drive VMs .VHDs are on external SAS controller on a 1.5 TB RAID5 volume. Nothing in event log on either VMs or Hyper-V host. • Windows 7 installation reboot loop

  Upgrading from Vista home premium to win 7 hoe premium from DVD ex Digital river on gigabyte VM900m; core 2 duo 2.13GHz 2GB ram; Western digital 250GB HD. Got as far as "Expanding Windows files ...100% the error message "Computer encountered unexpected error... To install windows press OK to restart computer and reinstall windows" The computer then reboots, loads Windows 7 (new logo) a essage that says "setup is starting services" then the error message comes back. I can get into BIOS to change boot priority but the computer just ignores this and goes through the same sequence. At the point of "to boot from CD/DVD press any key" my keyboard is deactivated and i cannot make a choice and the sae sequence occurs. I cannot break the sequence - I have push every key, disconnected every external device including HDMI screen, but nothing stops the loop. Any ideas? Auswoolf

  I currently have a Ubuntu Server 12.04 running OpenSSH along with Samba and a few other services. At the current time I have public key authentication set up, and I'm wondering if it's possible to set up two factor authentication? I've been looking at Google Authenticator which I currently use with my Gmail account. I've found a PAM module that looks like it will be compatible however it seems that you are forced to use a password and the code generated. I'm wondering if there is a way to use the Google Authenticator Application (or something similar) along with my public key to authenticate into my SSH server?

• Problem with IIS 6.0 in WOW WCF 4 (.net 4.0)

  We just upgraded to WCF 4 on IIS 6 (running in WoW 32 bit mode), and all of a sudden the services started running into what appears to be concurrency problems. Upon finding out we had a problem, we changed the Behavior Configuration Changes on the WCF server to the follow: <serviceThrottling maxConcurrentCalls="1000" maxConcurrentInstances="1000" maxConcurrentSessions="1000" /> We also changed the number of worker processes from 1 to 5. Doing all of this seemed to have no effect. The service seemed to be running, but throttled by something. Is there anything else that might need to be changed to remove the "artificial" throttling? Were using the default configuration WCF which should be Per-Call (not singleton).

• Not able to find IIS Manager and enable IIS in Windows7 Home Basic

  I enabled IIS services in the add/remove windows components. However, when i want to open the manager, the IIS Manager does not appear under the administrative tools on the control panel. If i type the shortcut "inetmgr" into the run block it doesn't find it. However, i know the service installed correctly. It is a very frustrating problem since everyone says find it here or here but no one gives any help on what to do if is doesn't appear in the said locations at all. Can anyone please help me? The system i am using is Windows 7 home basic. The service installed correctly but i cannot find the IIS Manager.

• Cannot configure NAP DCOM security.

  I've just added a new 2K8 domain controller to an existing domain as part of a transition from 2k3. I am getting a lot of DCOM 10016 errors, indicating launch security permission problems on a specific CLSID, which ends up being the NAP Agent Service. I've dealt with this before by granting the Network Service local launch and local activation permissions, but the secuirty options are all disabled for this component in the Component Services snap-in. The NAP agent service is not running, and startup is set to Manual. Any ideas on how to remove the errors for the unrequried NAP agent?

• Unable to browse Server 2008R2 from XP clinets

  We have just deployed a Windows 2008R2 server in our Windows 2003 domain. XP clinets are unable to browse in "entire network" and find the new server. It can be accessed by entering \\servername and it can be pinged by name and IP address. Users access shares without issue. Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled. Computer browser is running on the Windows 2008R2 system. Turn on Network Discovery is enabled. • How to enable "Sleep" for Windows 2012 server

  I recently installed Windows Server 2012. This will serve as the dev-instance for our engineers and will be accessed in multiple time zones. I therefore plan to run this 24x7 but want to conserve energy by going to sleep mode when not in use & enable Wake-On-Magic-Packet. Based on the previous post it appears that there is no option to sleep Win Server 2012 with Hyper-V. Since I don't care much about virtualization now, I uninstalled Hyper-V. In addition to this, I have done the following 1) Ran powercfg -a. Don't find sleep. 2) Added [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hvboot] "Start"=dword:00000003 to try gaining sleep - no luck! 3) Only see Shutdown and Restart in power options.   We have IIS servers running in 2 machines hosting few webservices which provided some integration services to an old document Mgmt system, word/excel related service, etc.... We need to cluster/load balance these 2 IIS in order to achieve a fail-over. i.e If one of the IIS server is down, the other on should be able to handle the request. The reverse proxy used in the DMZ is also IIS 7.5 Our overall business application is in fact a J2EE one and we have successfully deployed on a weblogic cluster installed on the same two machines and load balance from the same above mentioned IIS reverse proxy at DMZ. But we do not know how to achieve this in case of IIS.

• sudo: must be setuid root

  Recently, due to some messy stuff with master boot record, I have to re-install my Ubuntu. Before doing that, I back up all folder (exclude root, bin, sbin, tmp, media, mnt) to a NTFS partition. After installation of Ubuntu, I copied back all the folder using a nautilus (running by sudo nautilus). After that, I reboot my computer. And boom, now I cannot run sudo any more, my network services cannot run. When I run sudo from a terminal, I ge "must be setuid root" error. In ubuntu, root account is disabled by default, I don't know why all these files is no longer under ownership of my account. How would I recover back?

• ERROR 0x8007007A when trying to schedule a task

  I am getting the error "The data area passed to a system call is too small. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007A)" when trying to create a scheduled task on a particular windows machine. The problem description is identical to that described in this Microsoft KB article I followed their steps to resolve: Stopped the task scheduler service (right-clicked "Task Scheduler" in the Services window from Control Panel and selected "Stop"). Restarted the task scheduler service Waited 15 minutes tried to schedule the task. But the error is persisting. To give more context of how we are creating these scheduled tasks, they are actually generated automatically from a configuration script (we run the script each time we wish to make a change). Each time this happens, it deletes all of the existing tasks and creates new ones. I don't know what else to try.... but surely there is some way to "reset" the task scheduler... How can I stop this error from happening.

• IIS 7 Using Domain Account for Application pool identity Invalid Password

  I have an asp.net website containing a WCF service that I am developing on a Windows 7 machine hosted with IIS 7. I am needing to connect to an instance of Reporting Services 2005 with the service, and have been getting 401 errors when trying to execute reports. So, I assume that I need to be running the IIS Application pool under a domain account. The problem is that when I try to change the identity to a domain account, I get the error message "The specified password is invalid. Type a new password." I've rechecked the password multiple times to make sure it is correct. The account I'm using has admin rights on the machine. I saw elsewhere to try running this command: aspnet_regiis.exe -GA domain\username which I did but it didn't help. What else do I need to do?

The 2nd router connnects to the 1st router and the remaining PCs are connected to the 2nd router via LAN cables. Normally, I would perform remote-access to help him out with some task. • Chinese IME - Shape toggle key won't save

  Hello everyone, Whenever I use Google IME or other IMEs like Sogou, I always encounter the same problem: half/full-width toggle. It's easy to set half-width by default in ime prefs, but toggle key is maintained by Windows, and here the fun begins. I use Win7 x64 Ultimate. Open the "Text services and input languages", go to "Advanced key settings". Here I see "Chinese (Simplified) IME - Shape Toggle" is set to "Shift+Space". When I try to change it, it appears as if it has changed, but if you click on "Apply" instead of "OK", or just open the window again, you can see it's still "Shift+Space". The same happens with disabling this toggle - disables and goes back on Apply or reopen. Not sure if it's a bug in Win7, so asking here. Please save me. :) Thanks!

• Linux networking "jail" for a single process

  I need to tune up a networking app for network specific things like: make it use a DNS server different than the default one from /etc/resolv.conf make sure it does not try to connect to certain hosts/ports using tcp/udp connections I know I can get away with just modifying /etc/resolv.conf and writing some iptables rules, but going for a default DENY firewall policy for outgoing IP packets can trigger malfunctions in other services running on the server. I know I can set up a virtual machine with a whole OS and run my app there, but it seems a bit overkill. Is it possible to have a networking "jail" for a single app (think single Linux process) that could accept iptables-like rules for network traffic (think in terms of IP packets and above) allowed to and from this particular app? Maybe this is achievable through some dynamically loaded library that can deal with the networking layer, the same manner tsocks does, but more fine-grained?

• "SC.EXE config" and dollar sign in service name

  Say I want to make Windows Service startup dependent on SQL Server. In my case service name for SQL Server is MSSQL$SQL11 (SQL11 is SQL Server instance name) However, when I issue this command: SC.EXE config MyService depend= MSSQL$SQL11 everything after the dollar sign is ignored. When I go to "Dependencies" tab in "Services" SQL Server is not listed. When I check matching registry key it becomes clear why: it only has MSSQL. At this point I have to edit registry by hand to change MSSQL to MSSQL$SQL11 and then everything works as expected. Putting quotes around MSSQL$SQL11 doesn't help. Is there a way to specify $ in the middle of the SC.EXE argument string?

• Can't access Linux machine from the network, network from the machine is fine

  I'm having issues with a machine that stopped replicating with mysql. It's managed by a guy on another continent but recently I've had to get involved. The server is running Ubuntu server 9.10 I can't log in with SSH, there is no response. On the server itself I can ssh to localhost fine. I thought maybe it's the firewall rules. I'm no expert on IP Tables, but I believe that's not the issue as I removed all the rules. But it still won't let me in. Any ideas? it's acting from other machines as though the service isn't listening, but I know that it is. It's like this for all services.

• How can Bonjour be setup to function over a VPN connection using Mac OS X — Mountain Lion Server?

  I purchased Mountain Lion Server for our office thinking that Bonjour would automatically enable any computers connected via VPN to see all computers and applications (such as Bento) running on the office network. The hope was that those of us working at home would feel just like we were in the office, with all network services working transparently over the VPN connection. However, I see that Bonjour (aka mDNS) is not enabled to work over the VPN by default. Can I configure Mountain Lion Server to automatically pass Bonjour traffic over the VPN? Is there any reason not to do this?

• Correct way to treat iptables init failure?

  Hi, I'm initializing my iptables rules via /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/iptables, using iptables-restore. This works fine, but I'm a bit worried about what would happen, if that script failed for some reason (maybe the saved iptables file is corrupt or whatever). In case the script failed, I'd like to: Start up my network interfaces without any iptables rules Start up OpenSSH server But not any other services like web server, ... (and maybe stop running instances) Is there a good canonical way to do that? Going into a lower init stage? - I haven't done that in a long time, and I think a lot about init has changed in recent years (?) - which stage should I drop to, and would the OpenSSH server and my network interfaces still run? • Cannot access Tomcat application remotely, but can access Apache applications

  I am installing Atlassian's Confluence 4.2 on a clean Ubuntu 12.04 server. Confluence runs on Tomcat 6, and uses PostgreSQL 9.1 as its datastore. I've installed and configured phpPgAdmin to manage PostgreSQL, and Zentyal to manage the server generally. Both these applications use Apache. The problem that I am experiencing is that while I can access phpPgAdmin and Zentyal without problem from a remote PC, I can only access Confluence when running locally (either specified by localhost, IP address or host name). Instead I get an HTTP 502 Connection Failed error. By way of experimentation, I also installed Ajenti, which appears to use lighttpd rather than Apache or Tomcat, and it too works fine when connected to locally, but gives me the same HTTP 502 error when connected to remotely. So applications served from Apache work fine, but applications served from other services do not - does that ring a bell with anyone?
