  • Can WD SmartWare be used on multiple computers?

    I am wondering if I can use my portable Western Digital 1 tb drive and it's WD Smartware on 2 different computers (I have a desktop and a laptop) at the same time. So in essence, could it run two separate backups? I would even be happy if the portable external combined both data, as long as I had backups of each computer. Can anyone share some insight? Thank you.

    hi, I'm emulating Ubuntu using VMWare and I've upgraded it to last stable 10.04 version. When I boot the system I get this error (below the Ubuntu logo): "an error occurred while mounting /mnt/hgfs" I made a screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72686/mountError.png So I have to click S to continue and the the OS seems to work well.   • Office 2010 Pro Plus Install Failure - Setup cannot find ProPlusr.WW\ProPrWW2.cab

    I'm attempting to install Office 2010 Pro Plus on a netbook running WWindows 7 Starter but the installer prompts for a file location: Setup cannot find ProPlusr.WW\ProPrWW2.cab. Browse to a valid installation source, and then click OK. I checked the installation files and can see that the file is present. I selected the folder and clicked OK, but the installer keeps prompting for the file. Has anyone else encountered this?

  • Recommend a basic 3D graphics card for HP ProLiant DL360 G5?

    We've got an HP ProLiant DL360 G5 running Windows Server 2008 R2 that needs a graphics card with 3D acceleration (the integrated ATI ES1000 graphics don't have this). This is an unfortunate requirement that we can't avoid, as it is required by S/W installed on the server that is beyond our control. Looks like the PCI-Express slots in the box are x8 (1 full and 1 low profile). We just need a basic card, as long as it has the 3D acceleration. Any recommendations?

    I have purchased and correctly installed it on one computer. I then emailed that font in a zip file to be installed on another machine using Windows 7. When I open the font and click the install button, it gives me the following error message: The file name "C:\Use...\charlottesanscom-book (2).ttf" does not appear to be a valid font Do you have step-by-step instructions on how to fix this problem?

  • Remote Desktop event ID 20499. No noticeable issues

    I get a warning event with ID 20499 for TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager.The error is: Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \server.domain.home for user administrator. Yet, I don't see any issues (I'm guessing because that user is on the machine local). Why am I getting this warning? I'm on Windows Server 2012 R2 connecting from a Windows 8.1.

    HI All, I bought a new case to put a motherboard in. Everything fits, I have done this before, but not in a long time! The case has wires for - Power SW - Reset SW - Power LED - HDD LED On the motherboard (ASUS M2NPV-VM) it is clearly labeled where these go, but I cannot remember where the black wire for each goes versus the colored wire? I don't want to put it backwards, wont I blow the motherboard?

  • Shared secret length limit on OSX VPN client

    I'm trying to setup the built-in VPN client with OS X. The settings I'm using (IPsec GW, shared secret, etc...) work flawlessly using other clients (IPsecuritas, vpnc, etc...) but isn't working with the built-in client. The error I get is: Wrong shared secret (not the exact message, since OS X is localized) The shared secret is 128 chars long so I'm wondering if it's hitting a length limit. I would like to know if that's true, and if so, how I could overcome it?

    I would like to understand how this happened. I was running a query that would take a long time, but should not lock up any table. Monitors are connected the following way: DVI-DVI-DisplayPort Currently driver does not allow me to do this. If I click on the third monitor to extended it, I get message to disable other one. Message: I am using DisplayPort adapter to DVI, so I do not have native displayPort monitor. Might be that a problem?

    Being left-handed, I use the mouse in my left hand. In most applications I use Ctrl + Insert or Shift + Insert to copy and paste (with my right hand). For some bone-headed reason, this is not supported in Photoshop, so I have to use right-click Copy sub-menus, which is a lot slower. Is there a way to configure Photoshop to use Ctrl + Insert to copy and Shift + Insert to paste?

  • iCal and Google Calendar are synced, but invitations don't show up on Google Calendar

    So I can view my Google Calendar from iCal. However when I get an invitation sent through Apple Mail and I click it, it adds the invite to the default iCal calendar and not my Google Calendar (i.e. going to Google Calendar or bringing it up on my iPhone doesn't show the newly-added event). How can I change this so clicking on an invite will add it to my Google Calendar and display in iCal's synced Google Calendar view?

  • Internet Explorer-like clicking sound without using Explorer

    When I switch on my Windows 7 laptop a few minutes after turning it on I hear a single click sound like the one Internet Explorer gives during browsing. I don't use Explorer at all. I use Firefox. What can it be then? Is it coming from Explorer running in the background? Or is it not related to Explorer at all? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

    I can't seem to locate recent commands I've run when I do Ctrl + R in my terminal, nor can I see them when I hit the up arrow. It was a long command. Is there a length limit to what is stored? I may have used sudo. Is sudo history stored somewhere else? If so how do I access it? Much thanks for any insight.

    I'm trying to setup a vSphere Client vCenter v5.0.0 Build 455964 Template Customization Specification using a Windows Sysprep unattended answer XML file for Win2008R2. However I didn't know how Sysprep worked before attempting this so it was a time-consuming nightmare (even after reviewing VMware vSphere ESXi 5's documentation)! I think I've figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, but it's still not working. The biggest problem at this point is that vSphere Client vCenter Customization Specification IP address information is not sticking when I load a Sysprep XML file with just 1 basic setting! This can only be a bug. Here is the process I'm using: PROCESS for Windows - vSphere Client Install Windows OS install VM Tools customize Windows (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment) install Applications (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment too) shutdown the VM convert the VM to a template create a custom Windows Sysprep XML answer file with desired customizations View Management Customization Specifications Manager create "New" Specification for "Target Virtual Machine OS" select Windows check "Use Custom Sysprep Answer File" (ADDS: Custom Sysprep File. KEEPS: Network (IP), Operating System Options (SID, Sysprep /generalize). REPLACES: Registration Information of Owner Name & Organization, Computer Name, Windows License (Key), Administrator Password, Time Zone, Run Once, Workgroup or Domain) name it as "VMwareCS-OS####R#x32/64w/Sysprep-TEST" (CS=Customization Specification) set Description as "Created YYYY/MM/DD by FLast" NEXT import a Sysprep answer file from secure location NEXT Custom settings NEXT click "..." box to right of "Use DHCP" set "Use the following IP settings:" for "IP Address" fill out the first 2 octets set appropriate values for other 2-3 fields set DNS server addresses OK NEXT check "Generate New Security ID (SID)" ALWAYS as template is likely a domain-member computer so it can be updated occasionally NEXT Finish View Inventory VMs and Templates right-click previously completed template Deploy Virtual Machine from this Template provide the new OS name (max15char) select inventory location NEXT select Host/Cluster (wait for validation to succeed) NEXT select Resource Pool (wait for validation to succeed) NEXT select Storage location NEXT check "Power on this virtual machine after creation" select "Customize using an existing customization specification" select desired specification select "Use the Customization Wizard to temporarily adjust the specification before deployment" NEXT NEXT Custom settings?   • Open Elevated "Administrator:" cmd prompt instead of "cmd prompt (Running as Administrator)"

    If you open a command prompt with a runas command, you will see a window that shows (Running as some_user) In the title bar, but if you right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator you will get a window that has: Administrator cmd.exe In the title bar. Oddly enough, these windows exhibit different behavior. My question is how can I get the Administrator cmd.exe command prompt via command line? Or if it is even possible?

    I'm trying to get to the overscan slider in CCC but in the Desktops and Displays menu I can't right click the tv in the bottom left to bring up the configure option. If i hover the mouse over the tv it says TV, Disabled. How do i enable it?   • Using Excel VBA to capture standard toolbar use

    I am looking for a way to capture a click on a standard toolbar tool in Excel with VBA. The primary need is to capture any Copy, Cut, and Paste request by the user. I can capture the hot keys for these functions, but I can't find a way to capture the same functions when the user clicks on the icon on the standard toolbar or when the user uses the menu to select the function.
