• Cannot reactivate RAID-5 volume: The size of the plex member is invalid

  We had a 3-drive Windows Server 2008 R2 RAID-5 fail (operating in redundancy mode): WDC 1 TB WDC 1 TB WDC 1 TB We removed the failed hard drive, and put a WDC 1 TB drive (that we had standing by) into the machine. When launched, Disk Manager, asked permission to "initialize" the disk as either: Master Boot Record (MBR) Guid Partition Table (GPT) We initialized the disk as GPT, converted it to dynamic, and tried to use the Repair Volume command - except it was greyed out. (which is a terrifying thing on a failed production server hosting 3 virtual servers) i tried from the diskpart command line tool. First we look for our RAID-5 volume that is in Failed Rd mode: DISKPART> list volume Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- -------- Volume 0 E VMs (Raid5) NTFS RAID-5 1863 GB Failed Rd Volume 1 D DVD-ROM 0 B No Media Volume 2 System Rese NTFS Partition 100 MB Healthy System Volume 3 C NTFS Partition 1862 GB Healthy Boot There, Volume 0. Make that our active context: DISKPART> select volume 0 Volume 0 is the selected volume. • Kodak Scanner Software Issue 0xc0000005

  I am trying to be able to use a program called Kodak Smart Touch, but just today I have experienced an error preventing it from opening. The scanner is a business class scanner, an i2900. It comes with a small program called Kodak Smart Touch. This program allows you to select and customize a number of presets on the front panel and automatically create/save scanned files, etc. I was running a backup with Aomei Backupper at the time, and I wanted to scan a file. I tried to scan as normal, but right at the end the program quit with an error. Now, whenever I try to start Smart Touch, even not running the backup and with Aomei uninstalled, the following error pops up: Title of message: KSSCFG (version 1.7.15.121102) has stopped working. Body: See (path name) for more information. When I go to the path in the error message, there are two files, ERRORLOG.txt and KSSCFG.dmp. The error log says, "KSSCFG (version 1.7.15.322.121102) case an Access Violation(0xc0000005). Error occur at 2014/06/11 21:37:54 Operation System: Windows 7 64bits (6.1.7601) processor(s) type AMD x86 or x64" The dump file can be downloaded here: http://l.bitcasa.com/yzbtv1VV Opening it with a hex editor yields very little of use, but I do have an internal commandline utility that may help: http://l.bitcasa.com/cTXvAsst I've already uninstalled and reinstalled all the kodak software several times to no avail. • Mod Rewrite Help - Pseudo-Subdirectories

  I am dealing with a frustrating problem with Joomla that is going to require some url trickery. The idea is straight-forward but after reading a bunch of guides for mod-rewrite, I still can't seem to get it work. Let's say my site is www.mysite.com. Joomla is already performing some rewriting for SEF urls so I have links like www.mysite.com/home and www.mysite.com/news and so on. I want to be able to have (4) pseudo-subdirectories like www.mysite.com/mode1/ and www.mysite.com/mode2/ and so on. These subdirectories should work as if the subdirectory isn't there, ie both www.mysite.com/mode1/home and www.mysite.com/mode2/home should pull up the same www.mysite.com/home. It should point any www.mysite.com/mode1/anypagehere to www.mysite.com/anypagehere. The reason I am asking for this is because I will be reading the url for mode1, mode2, etc, to modify the template page. There will be a landing page that will direct people to /mode1/ and /mode2/ etc and the template will change based on that. Note, that I don't want to actually pass a parameter to the url accessible by a GET or whatever because Joomla removes it (perhaps because of my current mod_rewrite settings). • Can't successfully run Sharepoint Foundation 2010 first time configuration

  I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration. I run this command: New-SPConfigurationDatabase -DatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Config" -DatabaseServer "developer.pleiado.pri" -AdministrationContentDatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Admin" -DatabaseCredentials (Get-Credential) -Passphrase (ConvertTo-SecureString "%h4r3p0int" -AsPlainText -Force) Of course all these are in the same line. I've broken them down into separate lines to make it easier to read. When I run this command I get this error: New-SPConfigurationDatabase : Cannot connect to database master at SQL server a t developer.pleiado.pri. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it.   Hi I'm trying to get RDP services running with Windows 2008 R2. I'm at a WINXP SP3 client that was modified to run RDP with NLA. When I start the client connect to the local DC and get an authentification error (Code 0x507). I've already done the following: • Server Setup to run as a standalone local "DC" to provide Terminal services to a single application. Remote Desktop Session Host CAL License is running & operational, RD Gateway Manager w/ Local Server RAP & CAP running NLA & operational etc..... Server has NLA & temporary use of port 3389 (which is directly connected to and accessible from the internet (I am planning to change the port to 443, but want to get the current system running first). • XP Client(s): RDP-Version on win xp clients is 6.1 If had SP2, then added SP3 and edited the registry settings to allow NLA, by: Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa In the details pane, right-click Security Packages, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type tspkg. Leave any data that is specific to other SSPs, and then click OK. • Primary IDE Channel: Ultra DMA Mode 5 >> PIO Mode

  Hi, my netbook was having huge audio lag and just abnormally slow processing. After doing some searching on the internet, I found out that I needed to uninstall/reinstall the Primary IDE Channel found under the IDE controller section in the Device Manager. I would then set the Transfer Mode to DMA if available and everything would be great. For a period of time, I would see that "Ultra DMA Mode 5" was the current transfer mode, but every so often, it'd revert back to "PIO Mode", which is when it's really laggy. What can I do to prevent the Primary IDE Channel to revert from Ultra DMA Mode to PIO Mode? Also, my netbook has BSODed a few times when it is in PIO Mode, without any real explanation. I have a Samsung N120. Specs are as follows: http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/office/mobile-computing/netbook/NP-N120-KA01CA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=spec&fullspec=F. Only difference is that I have upgraded to 2.0 GB of DDR2 RAM. EDIT: For all who are looking for an answer to this problem, click the link in Kythos's answer and look at number 6 (Re-enable DMA using the Registry Editor). This always works for me now. If on reboot, you seem to only have a black screen after XP is loading, just wait... it is still loading and will show signs of life after 2-3 minutes.

• Useful Excel keyboard shortcuts

  What keyboard shortcuts do you use in Excel? Things I've discovered recently and found very useful are: Shift + Space - select the current row Ctrl + Space - select the current column Ctrl + Shift + Space - select the block of contiguous cell Ctrl + + - Insert (as in the context menu). If the current row is selected, will insert a new row. Ctrl + - - Delete (as in the context menu). If the current row is selected, will delete entire row. What (apart from the normal cut, copy, paste, etc) do you use? Ctrl + 1 to open the Format dialog. Shift + F2 to add/edit a cell comment. Shift + F2, followed by Esc to select the current cell comment, which can then be moved around with the arrow keys (????) or deleted by pressing Del. Ctrl + ???? to move to the last non-blank cell in a series. This is usually the edge of a table, but not if you have blank cells in the path. Pressing End followed by an arrow key does the same thing. Alt + F11 to open the VBA editor. Alt + = to start a SUM() formula and go straight to selecting cells to be summed. Ctrl + G or F5 to jump to a cell by typing its coordinates (e.g. C3) Ctrl + Home to jump to the top left, usually A1 unless you you are in a frozen split view, in which case it will jump to the top left of the "data" area. Ctrl + ; and Ctrl + Shift + ; to insert the current date and time, respectively. I know Ben Lings already posted this one, but I find it indispensable.

• Windows 2000 uninstall on a dual-boot 2000/XP system

  While several questions have already been answered about removing an OS from a dual-booting machine, most refer to Windows 7 vs. Linux/Vista/XP. I have W2K installed on my older HDD (Drive C). Later on I bought a new HDD and installed XP's under W2K environment. Each time I turned my PC on, I had the choice of W2K or XP OS, which I still have. I eventually stopped using the w2k OS and as the older HDD where this OS is installed is getting old, I plan to remove it completely. The problem is that the active master boot record is on this very HDD. So when I remove the HDD, I get no OS loader, no matter what boot drive I choose in BIOS. Apparently I have to set the boot record on the newer HDD with XP's. Some advise to use the bootable XP CD and try to set the active MBR from there.. I don't have the CD anymore. Regardless, I suspect there is much less to solving this problem than running the recovery console, like a simple boot.ini file edit. But I might be wrong.

• NFS issue: clients can mount shares as NFSv3 but not as NFSv4 -- or how to debug NFS?

  Problem description I have a file server running Debian. On it I have a few NFS shares. When I mount the shares from a client using NFSv3 (mount.nfs 10.0.0.51:/exports/video /mnt -o vers=3,soft,intr,timeo=10), it works. However, I would like to use NFSv4 because of improved security and performance. When I try to mount an NFSv4 share on malbec the mount command just hangs and finally times out after 2 minutes. How do I make the clients mount the NFSv4 shares as NFSv4? How do I troubleshoot NFS? There is no information in the syslog on neither client nor server. What are any errors in my configuration? • Xenserver 6.2 cannot send alert using gmail smtp

  I'm using Xenserver 6.2 and configured ssmtp.conf an mail_alert.conf in order to receive alerts through email. I followed the instructions on http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/34969-102-706058/reference.pdf document. I'm using gmail smtp to send the emails. When i try: [root@xen /]# ssmtp [email protected] from the command line and try to send the email, no problem. It is right on the way. But when i set some VM to generate alerts, alerts are generated. I see in XenCenter but emailing is not working. • List of Hidden / Virtual Windows User Accounts

  I’m trying to find a way to get a comprehensive list of user accounts on a Windows 7 system, including hidden ones. The User Accounts dialog (>control userpasswords2) only shows the normal user accounts, and even the Local User and Groups editor only shows normal user accounts and standard hidden/disabled ones like Administrator and Guest. The Select Users or Groups dialog has a Find Now button which which combines users and groups, but alas, it has the same contents as the LUG. I’m looking for a more comprehensive list that includes “super-hidden” / virtual user accounts like TrustedInstaller (or to be more accurate, NT Service\TrustedInstaller—notice the different “domain”). I checked HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList, but the SpecialAccounts key does not exist. I also checked HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList, and while it does have the SystemProfile, LocalService, and NetworkService accounts listed, it does not have others (like TrustedInstaller and its ilk). TrustedInstaller specifically is a little confusing because it is a user, a service, and an executable file. I am using it as an example because it is “super hidden” in that it does not seem to be listed in any sort of user list. (As an experiment, I tried searching the whole registry for “trustedinstaller” to see if I could find a place where it is listed as a user, but found none.) To be clear, what I am looking for is a list of all accounts that can be used in a user input-field such as in permissions dialogs or as a runas argument.

• How to get rid of auto-generated sequence number in network's device name in Windows?

  Every time one plugs in the same usb wireless adapter in a new usb port, Windows creates new network device with auto-generated sequence number which looks like this Wireless-N USB Network Adapter #2, Wireless-N USB Network Adapter #3, ... The name of a device is being displayed as part of network's information in Control Panel|Network Connections. How can I get rid of this sequence number? I found out device name which is displayed in network's information is kept in the FriendlyName REG_SZ value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\VID_[device specific string]\[usb port specific string] However when I try to modify this value I get error Cannot edit FriendlyName: Error writing the value's new contents. I tried to delete extra keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\VID_13B1&PID_0029 but got Cannot delete KEY NAME: Error while deleting key. error. Trying to solve this problem I followed this answer but trying to change owner with Replace owner on subcontainers and objects option checked I got this error - Registry Editor could not set owner on the currently selected, or some of its subkeys. To find out which subkey is the source of problem I tried changing owner of each subkey. After successfully changing owner of Properites subkey I saw it has subkeys which were previously hidden. Now trying to change owner of these subkeys looks like this: Any idea how to delete these keys?

• Problems during an update of cPanel / WHM

  I ordered a Master WHM account with the couple CentOS / cPanel. whm-cpanel.eu.pn The installation is a fresh update of the basic services was necessary (had: WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.17.0 WHM X v3.1.0, Apache 1.3.37, PHP 4.4.7, MySQL 4.1.22). 1 / I started to update cPanel / WHM via the command: / scripts / upcp. Everything went well until the middle of installing the server stopped responding (or ping, or ssh). The installation appears to have continued alone to the end and after some time everything is back to normal (I do not know if there was a reboot) and my interface was updated (cPanel 11.24.4-R36167 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9). 2 / Then I updated via the MySQL interface tweak this in WHM then the command: / scripts / mysqlup. Here everything went fine, no problem. 3 / Finally, I wanted to upgrade Apache 2.2 / PHP 5 and I used this command: / scripts / easyapache. After selecting all the packages and modules installation is started but the same as for point 1: the server did not answer more and this time the installation did not go through. Apache 2.2 is well spent (after the second try) but PHP has remained at 4. I tried several times the same operation without success. I do not think this is a memory problem, a free-m shortly before losing communications gave nothing alarming. By cons CPU time seemed to rise up. I reinstalled the machine again the trick, same problem! Whether via the WHM interface or by Shell, the installation stops short, for 15 minutes the machine is not responding and then everything returns to normal, but no update is done in PHP. Is there a known bug in this version of cPanel / WHM? Someone he met the same problem? If I compile Apache / PHP manually, without using the script easyapache is what I might encounter problems with cPanel later? Thank you!

• How can I install Satchmo?

  I am trying to install Satchmo 0.9 on an Ubuntu 9.10 guest off of the instructions at http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/downloads/Satchmo.pdf. I run into difficulties at 2.1.2: pip install -r http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/raw/tip/scripts/requirements.txt pip install -e hg+http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/@v0.9#egg=satchmo The first command fails because a compile error for how it's trying to build PIL. So I ran an "aptitude install python-imaging", locally copy the first line's requirements.text, and remove the line that's unsuccessfully trying to build PIL. The first line completes without error, as does the second. The next step tells me to change directory to the /path/to/new/store, and run: python clonesatchmo.py A little bit of trouble here; I am told that clonesatchmo.py will be in /bin by now, and it isn't there, but I put some Satchmo stuff under /usr/local, create a symlink in /bin, and run: python /bin/clonesatchmo.py This gives: jonathan@ubuntu:~/store$ python /bin/clonesatchmo.py Creating the Satchmo Application Traceback (most recent call last): File "/bin/clonesatchmo.py", line 108, in <module> create_satchmo_site(opts.site_name) File "/bin/clonesatchmo.py", line 47, in create_satchmo_site import satchmo_skeleton ImportError: No module named satchmo_skeleton A find after apparently checking out the repository reveals that there is no file with a name like satchmo*skeleton* on my system. • setting up synergy (multi-computer shared input devices) new to mac

  I've just gotten a mac and the first thing I'm trying to do in setting it up for dev is to set-up synergy. I've run into countless issues, and am making progress, but that 'mac's just work' theory is getting tired really fast. I'd prefer running the mac as the server, as it's a desktop. why use my pc(laptop) as the server. So i downloaded synergy, and tried to edit the 'synergy.conf' file. First with textmate, then with apple script. Neither of these applications will open the file. Even after changing textmate to use plain text format and switching off a few other things to make it into a plain text editor. No good. Uh, isn't that what these script/text editors are for? Then I found SyneryKM which is a package to run synergy on osx. Took LOTS of fiddling, but I think I finally kinda got it figured out. I've got my pc & mac both running synergy. However, my pc will only connect to synergy using the ip address. No problem, however, my mac won't connect to itself as a synergy server using the IP address. If I use the ip address as a screen in the 'server configuration file', i get a 'Error: unknown screen name mymac'. I know this shouldn't be super complicated, and possibly not the place to find answers about synergy, but I couldn't find a better place, and there has been some talk of synergy here. Any chance somebody can help with this?

• Enabling syntax highlighting for LESS in Programmer's Notepad?

  When I don't feel like firing up the Visual Studio behemoth, or when I don't have it installed, I always turn to Programmer's Notepad. It's an amazingly light and fast little text editor, with the special advantage that it is completely platform-native and conforms to standard UI conventions. Therefore, please do not suggest that I consider using other text editors. I've already considered and rejected them because they do not use native UI controls. I like Programmer's Notepad, thank you very much. Unfortunately, I've recently begun to learn, use, and love LESS for all of my CSS coding needs, and it appears that Programmer's Notepad is not bundled with a syntax highlighting scheme for LESS. Does anyone know if there is—by chance and good fortune—one already available somewhere on the web that some kind soul has tediously prepared? If not, how can I go about writing one of my own? Is there a way to build on the existing CSS scheme? It's also possible that any code coloring scheme designed for Scintilla-based editors will work, as Programmer's Notepad is based on the Scintilla control. If you know of a LESS highlighting scheme for Scintilla-based editors, and how to use that with Programmer's Notepad, please suggest that as well.
