  • Bitmap font rendering, UV generation and vertex placement

    - by jack
    I am generating a bitmap, however, I am not sure on how to render the UV's and placement. I had a thread like this once before, but it was too loosely worded as to what I was looking to do. What I am doing right now is creating a large 1024x1024 image with characters evenly placed every 64 pixels. Here is an example of what I mean. I then save the bitmap X/Y information to a file (which is all multiples of 64). However, I am not sure how to properly use this information and bitmap to render. This falls into two different categories, UV generation and kerning. Now I believe I know how to do both of these, however, when I attempt to couple them together I will get horrendous results. For example, I am trying to render two different text arrays, "123" and "njfb". While ignoring the texture quality (I will be increasing the texture to provide more detail once I fix this issue), here is what it looks like when I try to render them. http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/599/badfontrendering.png Now for the algorithm. I am doing my letter placement with both GetABCWidth and GetKerningPairs. I am using GetABCWidth for the width of the characters, then I am getting the kerning information for adjust the characters. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can implement my own bitmap font renderer? I am trying to do this without using external libraries such as angel bitmap tool or freetype. I also want to stick to the way the bitmap font sheet is generated so I can do extra effects in the future. Rendering Algorithm for(U32 c = 0, vertexID = 0, i = 0; c < numberOfCharacters; ++c, vertexID += 4, i += 6) { ObtainCharInformation(fontName, m_Text[c]); letterWidth = (charInfo.A + charInfo.B + charInfo.C) * scale; if(c != 0) { DWORD BytesReq = GetGlyphOutlineW(dc, m_Text[c], GGO_GRAY8_BITMAP, &gm, 0, 0, &mat); U8 * glyphImg= new U8[BytesReq]; DWORD r = GetGlyphOutlineW(dc, m_Text[c], GGO_GRAY8_BITMAP, &gm, BytesReq, glyphImg, &mat); for (int k=0; k<nKerningPairs; k++) { if ((kerningpairs[k].wFirst == previousCharIndex) && (kerningpairs[k].wSecond == m_Text[c])) { letterBottomLeftX += (kerningpairs[k].iKernAmount * scale); break; } } letterBottomLeftX -= (gm.gmCellIncX * scale); } SetVertex(letterBottomLeftX, 0.0f, zFight, vertexID); SetVertex(letterBottomLeftX, letterHeight, zFight, vertexID + 1); SetVertex(letterBottomLeftX + letterWidth, letterHeight, zFight, vertexID + 2); SetVertex(letterBottomLeftX + letterWidth, 0.0f, zFight, vertexID + 3); zFight -= 0.001f; float BottomLeftX = (F32)(charInfo.bitmapXOrigin) / (float)m_BitmapWidth; float BottomLeftY = (F32)(charInfo.bitmapYOrigin + charInfo.charBitmapHeight) / (float)m_BitmapWidth; float TopLeftX = BottomLeftX; float TopLeftY = (F32)(charInfo.bitmapYOrigin) / (float)m_BitmapWidth; float TopRightX = (F32)(charInfo.bitmapXOrigin + charInfo.B - charInfo.C) / (float)m_BitmapWidth; float TopRightY = TopLeftY; float BottomRightX = TopRightX; float BottomRightY = BottomLeftY; SetTextureCoordinate(TopLeftX, TopLeftY, vertexID + 1); SetTextureCoordinate(BottomLeftX, BottomLeftY, vertexID + 0); SetTextureCoordinate(BottomRightX, BottomRightY, vertexID + 3); SetTextureCoordinate(TopRightX, TopRightY, vertexID + 2); /// index setting letterBottomLeftX += letterWidth; previousCharIndex = m_Text[c]; }

  • Recursion in Ecore-File?!

    - by Dominik
Hey guys, just tried to convert towards a Ecore-Model from a given UML-Model. After this I am trying to create a Generator Model. • Setup Google Test (gtest) with Eclipse on OS X

    - by ejel
What is the procedure to setup Google Test to work under Eclipse on Mac OS X? I followed the instruction in README to compile and install gtest as framework from XCode. Now I want to use gtest with Eclipse. Currently, it compiles fine but fails during build. I suppose Eclipse does not use framework concept as XCode does and need a different linking approach, but I'm not sure which files should I link to during build. g++ -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/lib/libgtest.a -L/Library/Frameworks/gtest.framework -arch i386 -o "Raytracer" ./test/sample_test.o ./src/Raytracer.o Undefined symbols: "testing::Test::~Test()", referenced from: DemoTest_SANITY_Test::~DemoTest_SANITY_Test()in sample_test.o DemoTest_SANITY_Test::~DemoTest_SANITY_Test()in sample_test.o "testing::internal::AssertHelper::~AssertHelper()", referenced from: DemoTest_SANITY_Test::TestBody() in sample_test.o DemoTest_SANITY_Test::TestBody() in sample_test.o

  • Installing flex on Mac Parallels

    - by Ali Syed
Hello folks, I am trying to install Flex 3 on my Windows 7 Virtual machine (parallels desktop) on my Mac Pro. The problem seems to be some sort of conflict between the copy of Flex 3 Builder installed on Mac OS X. The installer tries to install Flex in x:/Program Files/Adobe/Flex Builder 3/ but since Parallels Desktop connects all directories, there resides the Flex Builder 3 installation of MAC. I get this error Log: !SESSION 2010-04-22 16:09:23.031 ----------------------------------------------- eclipse.buildId=unknown java.version=1.5.0_11 java.vendor=Sun Microsystems Inc. • Port scientific software to GPU and publish it

    - by Werner
Hi, let's say that I am a physicist and that I am the master of the universe when it comes to port salready existing oftware to GPU's with 100x or more speedups. Let's say that I find that some other scientist, which does not know how to program GPU, publishes the Open Source code in his/her website of a physical simulation program, in the field I am expert on. Let's say that I realize "I can port that code to GPU", and I suggest him, but he shows no interest. My interest here is, 1) to port it to GPU, 2) to publish this result in a scientific journal related with physics and/or computer science My question for you is 1- would you proceed here to port the code to GPU (or other new arch) and publish it? 2- how would you do it and which journal do you suggest? Thanks

  • Linux Kernel Module - Creating proc file - proc_root undeclared error

    - by Zach
I copy and paste code from this URL for creating and reading/writing a proc file using a kernel module and get the error that proc_root is undeclared. This same example is on a few sites so I assume it works. Any ideas why I'd get this error? Does my makefile need something different. Below is my makefile as well: Example code for a basic proc file creation (direct copy and paste to get initial test done): http://tldp.org/LDP/lkmpg/2.6/html/lkmpg.html#AEN769 Makefile I'm using: obj-m := counter.o KDIR := /MY/LINUX/SRC PWD := $(shell pwd) default: $(MAKE) ARCH=um -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD) modules

  • Eclipse CDT on Snow Leopard cannot find binaries

    - by ejel
After upgraded to Snow Leopard, I can no longer run Eclipse CDT project on my computer. While the build process completes without any error, Eclipse does not recognize the binary file it created. When try to point to the binary file in Run Configuration.. dialog, it cannot find any binary in the project. Though executing the file from Terminal works fine. According to a post at on Eclipse forum, this might be a problem that Mach-O parser does not recognize 64-bit binaries. Does anyone know what are the solutions or workarounds to the problem so that I can run/debug my C++ projects on Snow Leopard. UPDATED The solution suggested by Shane, though allowing the binary created to be recognized, does introduce another problem. Since system libraries in Snow Leopard are all 64 bits, it is no longer possible to link the code created with -arch i386 with these libraries, and hence not a feasible solution yet.

  • How to speed-up Eclipse startup?

    - by Ivan
I've installed Eclipse Modelling Framework (eclipse-modeling-galileo-SR1-incubation-linux-gtk.tar.gz) by extracting 'features' and 'plugins' filders of the package to '~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.5.0_1543616141'. And now Eclipse splashscreen is shown for many minutes (the whole system (incl. BIOS, Linux and KDE) takes much less time to start). I don't need Eclipse Modelling Framework to be loaded at startup, if it is, I only need it when I start a modelling project. How to set up Eclipse to start faster and don't load all the plugins at startup time? My system runs Arch Linux 2010.05, OpenJDK 6.0, Eclipse 3.5.2.

  • Compile 32bit mercurial on x86_64

    - by krashalot
I'm using the academic version of EPD (Enthought Python Distribution) which is 32bit. My computer is Linux x86_64. platform.architecture() returns ('32bit','ELF') I want to install Mercurial. The instructions in README didn't work at first, because make gave this error: "LONG_BIT definition appears wrong for platform (bad gcc/glibc config?)." I commented out that line in pyport.h and then it compiled fine. Now, after successful compilation I get this error when running it: ImportError: /scratch/epd/lib/python2.6/site-packages/mercurial/osutil.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 It appears that I compiled a 64bit version of hg, and it won't run with my 32bit python. I don't see any arch flags in the mercurial makefile. How can I force it to compile in 32bit mode?

  • Running Sybase ISQL scripts from windows batch file

    - by user1328709
I have already researched on this site as well as on google extensively for this. I have created a number of batch files that perform certain automated transactions(backups etc) on our production database. i want to further simplify my end of day processes by taking the dumps using a script that accepts input of some parameters. the script is able to login the isql prompt but unable to do the execution of the commands. @ECHO ***Started*** @ECHO Enter MonthDay(MMDD) SET /p md= @ECHO %md% mkdir \\10.20.1.17\arch\212%md%_banking set run=isql -Uuser -SORBITS -Ppass %run% @echo dump database banking to '/media/newArch/212%md%_banking/212%md%EOD_banking.dmp' with compression=5 @echo dump database master to '/media/newArch/212%md%_banking/212%md%EOD_master.dmp' @echo go pause I have been unsuccessful at putting these in a separate script file because the script itself uses a passed parameter. Please give me hints and links to Thanks

If I omit adding -I/my/path/to/zlib to my make I get error from using old version which doesn't have Z_FIXED: g++ -g -Werror -Wredundant-decls -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -c -o ARCH.linux_26_i86/debug/sysParam.o sysParam.cpp sysParam.cpp: In member function `std::string CSysParamAccess::getCompressionStrategyName() const': sysParam.cpp:1816: error: `Z_FIXED' was not declared in this scope sysParam.cpp: In member function `bool CSysParamAccess::setCompressionStrategy(const std::string&, paramSource)': sysParam.cpp:1849: error: `Z_FIXED' was not declared in this scope Alternatively, if I add the include path to the zlib z1.2.5 I am using, I get double defines, it seems as if the zlib.h is included twice with two different sets of -D values, but I don't see how that is happening: g++ -g -Werror -Wredundant-decls -I../../src/zlib-1.2.5 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -c -o ARCH.linux_26_i86/debug/sysParam.o sysParam.cpp In file included from sysParam.cpp:24: ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1582: warning: redundant redeclaration of `void* gzopen64(const char*, const char*)' in same scope ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1566: warning: previous declaration of `void* gzopen64(const char*, const char*)' ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1583: warning: redundant redeclaration of `long long int gzseek64(void*, long long int, int)' in same scope ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1567: warning: previous declaration of `off64_t gzseek64(void*, off64_t, int)' ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1584: warning: redundant redeclaration of `long long int gztell64(void*)' in same scope ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1568: warning: previous declaration of `off64_t gztell64(void*)' ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1585: warning: redundant redeclaration of `long long int gzoffset64(void*)' in same scope ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1569: warning: previous declaration of `off64_t gzoffset64(void*)' ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1586: warning: redundant redeclaration of `uLong adler32_combine64(uLong, uLong, long long int)' in same scope ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1570: warning: previous declaration of `uLong adler32_combine64(uLong, uLong, off64_t)' ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1587: warning: redundant redeclaration of `uLong crc32_combine64(uLong, uLong, long long int)' in same scope ../../src/zlib-1.2.5/zlib.h:1571: warning: previous declaration of `uLong crc32_combine64(uLong, uLong, off64_t)' Here some of the relavent lines from zlib.h referred to above: // This would be line 1558 of zlib.h /* provide 64-bit offset functions if _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE defined, and/or * change the regular functions to 64 bits if _FILE_OFFSET_BITS is 64 (if * both are true, the application gets the *64 functions, and the regular * functions are changed to 64 bits) -- in case these are set on systems * without large file support, _LFS64_LARGEFILE must also be true */ #if defined(_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE) && _LFS64_LARGEFILE-0 ZEXTERN gzFile ZEXPORT gzopen64 OF((const char *, const char *)); ZEXTERN z_off64_t ZEXPORT gzseek64 OF((gzFile, z_off64_t, int)); ZEXTERN z_off64_t ZEXPORT gztell64 OF((gzFile)); ZEXTERN z_off64_t ZEXPORT gzoffset64 OF((gzFile)); ZEXTERN uLong ZEXPORT adler32_combine64 OF((uLong, uLong, z_off64_t)); ZEXTERN uLong ZEXPORT crc32_combine64 OF((uLong, uLong, z_off64_t)); #endif #if !defined(ZLIB_INTERNAL) && _FILE_OFFSET_BITS-0 == 64 && _LFS64_LARGEFILE-0 # define gzopen gzopen64 # define gzseek gzseek64 # define gztell gztell64 # define gzoffset gzoffset64 # define adler32_combine adler32_combine64 # define crc32_combine crc32_combine64 # ifdef _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE ZEXTERN gzFile ZEXPORT gzopen64 OF((const char *, const char *)); ZEXTERN z_off_t ZEXPORT gzseek64 OF((gzFile, z_off_t, int)); ZEXTERN z_off_t ZEXPORT gztell64 OF((gzFile)); ZEXTERN z_off_t ZEXPORT gzoffset64 OF((gzFile)); ZEXTERN uLong ZEXPORT adler32_combine64 OF((uLong, uLong, z_off_t)); ZEXTERN uLong ZEXPORT crc32_combine64 OF((uLong, uLong, z_off_t)); # endif #else ZEXTERN gzFile ZEXPORT gzopen OF((const char *, const char *)); ZEXTERN z_off_t ZEXPORT gzseek OF((gzFile, z_off_t, int)); ZEXTERN z_off_t ZEXPORT gztell OF((gzFile)); ZEXTERN z_off_t ZEXPORT gzoffset OF((gzFile)); ZEXTERN uLong ZEXPORT adler32_combine OF((uLong, uLong, z_off_t)); ZEXTERN uLong ZEXPORT crc32_combine OF((uLong, uLong, z_off_t)); #endif // This would be line 1597 of zlib.h I'm not sure how to track this down further. • Compiling a C program with a specific architecture

    - by Marplesoft
I was recently fighting some problems trying to compile an open source library on my Mac that depended on another library and got some errors about incompatible library architectures. Can somebody explain the concept behind compiling a C program for a specific architecture? I have seen the -arch compiler flag before and have seen values passed to it such as ppc, i386 and x86_64 which I assume maps to the CPU "language", but my understanding stops there. If one program uses a particular architecture, do all libraries that it loads need to be on the same architecture as well? How can I tell what architecture a given program/process is running under?

  • mysql gem for snow leopard

    - by Will
I had trouble with the gem at first but got it to work when I installed the 64-bit MySQL and reinsatlled the gem with arch flags. So it work in rails. The error I used to get was uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes but that is now gone :) However in Xcode when I run a RubyCocoa project I still get the old error of uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes Does anyone know why this may be? Is it because the gdb is 64-bit? How can it work in Rails but not in RubyCocoa? A little debugging shows that it fails to load mysql_api.bundle /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1/lib/mysql_api.bundle: dlopen(/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1/lib/mysql_api.bundle, 9): no suitable image found. Hy, I am using rpcbind (SunRPC) on Arch linux and python rpc.py (wich use standard python socket module) interface for comunication with it, but every time I try to send request for registration or unregistration to rpcbind I get message that I am rejected for security reasons. Only situation when everything works is that when I call rpcbind in insecure mode (rpcbind -i) but I realy want to make everything works in secure mode.I found information from rpcbind datasheet that i can make request in secure mode only from loopback address, but I have tried every aproach i had knew to make such socket and everything fall down. Please help me. Thank you

  • Java: Use jar library's from package manager in Linux.

    - by jonescb
I'm trying to find the best way to use Java libraries that were installed by the package manager instead of just putting a copy into ${project.root}/lib My distro, Gentoo, has a package for Java libraries like jdbc-postgresql. It's installed to /usr/share/jdbc-postgresql/lib/jdbc-postgresql.jar I assume that this path may be different in Ubuntu, Fedora, or Arch. Is there any way to do like what C does? Where you just add a -lfoo, and the linker would find libfoo.so. I'm using Ant 1.8.0 and Java 1.6.0_19.

  • ESS/AucTeX/Sweave integration

    - by aL3xa
I'm using GNU/Linux distro (Arch, if that's relevant), Emacs v23.2.1, ESS v5.9 and AucTeX v11.86. I want to setup AucTeX to recognize .Rnw files, so I can run LaTeX on .Rnw files with C-c C-c and get .dvi file automatically. I reckon it's quite manageable by editing .emacs file, but I still haven't got a firm grasp on Elisp. Yet another problem is quite annoying - somehow, LaTeX is not recognizing \usepackage{Sweave} in preambule, so I actually need to copy Sweave.sty file (in my case located in /usr/share/R/texmf/Sweave.sty) to directory where .Rnw file is located (and I'm getting more frustrated with the fact that this is common bug on Windows platforms!) My question boils down to two problems: how to make LaTeX recognize \usepackage{Sweave} (without copying Sweave.sty to "home" folder each time) how to setup AucTeX to compile .Rnw files to .dvi

  • Clojure / HBase: How to Import HBaseTestingUtility in v0.94.6.1

    - by David Williams
In Clojure, if I want to start a test cluster using the hbase testing utility, I have to annotate my dependencies with: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.92.2" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] First of all, I have no idea what this means. According to leiningens sample project.clj ;; Dependencies are listed as [group-id/name version]; in addition ;; to keywords supported by Pomegranate, you can use :native-prefix ;; to specify a prefix. This prefix is used to extract natives in ;; jars that don't adhere to the default "<os>/<arch>/" layout that ;; Leiningen expects. Question 1: What does that mean? Question 2: If I upgrade the version: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.94.6.1" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] Then I receive a ClassNotFoundException Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.hbase.HBaseConfiguration Whats going on here and how do I fix it?

  • Is there any kind of standard for 8086 multiprocessing?

    - by Earlz
Back when I made an 8086 emulator I noticed that there was the LOCK prefix intended for synchonization in a multiprocessor environment. Yet the only multitasking I know of for the x86 arch. involves use of the APIC which didn't come around until either the Pentiums or 486s. Was there any kind of standard for 8086 multitasking or was it done by some manufacturer specific extensions to the instruction set and/or special ports? By standard, I mean things like: How do you separate the 2 processors if they both use the same memory? This is impossible without some kind of way to make each processor execute a different piece of code. (or cause an interrupt on only one processor)

  • Compile error with initializer_list when trying to use it to initialize member value of class

I am trying to make a class initializable from an initialization_list in a class constructor's constructor's initialization list. It works for a std::map, but not for my custom class.
