  • C: cross-platform RS232 serial library?

    Hi folks, I am looking for an open source cross-platform library for working with the serial port in C, something along the lines of the awesome pyserial library (Unfortunately I have to use C for this application) I have only found this one: http://www.teuniz.net/RS-232/ and that doesn't seem to have mention OSX compatibility. Any recommendations/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • css3 rotate alternative

    I am using the CSS3 rule, "rotate" to rotate a div containing text. You can see the page here: http://vitaminjdesign.com/v2/socialmedia.html. I am looking for cross browser support for rotating the div; however, this CS3 rule won't work on IE. Is there a jquery option or another javascript solution that will yield the same result, with cross browser compatibility?

I have tried removing all add-ons, various version of Java, add the domain to the trusted sites using wildcards, and using compatibility mode to no avail. I am looking to get our Oracle guys to kick there Internet Explorer 6 habit. This is related to Oracle E-Business.

    According to http://www.delphigroups.info/2/3/181838.html The preferred approach with ADO components is to use TADODataSet and TADOCommand. TADOQuery (and TADOTable and TADOStoredProc) are provided for compatibility. Use TADODataSet for SQL that returns result-sets and TADOCommand for SQL that does not. I am a clueless n00b - who is about to code a lot of ADO stuph. Is that correct? Which components should I use fop something which does/does not return a result?

  • Ab Initio - Formatting a number in Left alignment

    I have a requirement in Ab Initio to format a number in left alignment. I shouldn't be using String conversion (as Strings are left aligned by default), as it might cause compatibility problems in the other end. For example, if my Field has 7 bytes length, and I'm getting only two digits as my input, then these two digits should go into the first two bytes of my field (left aligned), instead of the last two bytes. So, is there any in-built function in Ab Initio, that can format a number as left aligned?

    As I understand it, C# passes parameters into methods by reference. In vb.net, you can specify this with ByVal and ByRef. The default is ByVal. Is this for compatibility with vb6, or is it just random? Also, how can I specify what to use in C#? I kind of like the idea of passing parameters by value.

    It seems that I have more trouble getting standard Unix things to run on Snow Leopard than any other platform--including Windows cygwin For the past couple of days, I've been trying to get ImageMagick to run on Snow Leopard. The most obvious way, Mac Ports, fails: tppllc-Mac-Pro:ImageMagick-sl swirsky$ sudo port install imagemagick ---> Computing dependencies for p5-locale-gettext ---> Configuring p5-locale-gettext Error: Target org.macports.configure returned: configure failure: shell command " cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_perl_p5-locale-gettext/work/gettext-1.05" && /opt/local/bin/perl Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=vendor " returned error 2 Command output: checking for gettext... no checking for gettext in -I/opt/local/include -arch i386 -L/opt/local/lib -lintl...gettext function not found. So now I'm two steps away from ImageMagick, trying to get a newer libiconv on my machine. I downloaded the latest libiconv, compiled and built it. I put the resulting library in /opt/local/lib, and I still get the same error message: tppllc-Mac-Pro:.libs swirsky$ sudo mv libiconv.2.dylib /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib tppllc-Mac-Pro:.libs swirsky$ convert dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib Referenced from: /opt/local/lib/libfontconfig.1.dylib Reason: Incompatible library version: libfontconfig.1.dylib requires version 8.0.0 or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 7.0.0 Trace/BPT trap Now here's something interesting. The error message shows it's looking in /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib. otools -L shows that this does implement 8.0.0: tppllc-Mac-Pro:.libs swirsky$ otool -L /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib: /usr/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib (compatibility version 8.0.0, current version 8.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.0) tppllc-Mac-Pro:.libs swirsky$ And, for good measure, I set the DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to make sure this directory is the one for dynamic libraries. So even though I do have a library that provides 8.0.0, it's being seen as 7.0.0! Any ideas why this would happen? So here's my question: Is it possible to get ImageMagick to run on OSX Snow Leopard? Are there any binary distributions that have static libraries baked in so I don't have to worry about these issue/

    I am using jalava library as a diagram drawing tool. It displays figures as images in order to maintain compatibility with majority of browsers. When diagram block is being resized a request is being made and new gif image is generated and send to browser. What I need is generating image of basic blocks, like rounded rectangle, circle, diamond with specified parameters (height, width and color). I want to do all server-side; my server part is written on Perl.

    I'm querying a bunch of information from cisco switches using SNMP. For instance, I'm pulling information on neighbors detected using CDP by doing an snmpwalk on .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.23 Can I use this OID across different cisco models? What pitfalls should I be aware of? To me, I'm a little uneasy about using numeric OIDs - it seems like I should be using a MIB database or something and using the named OIDs, in order to gain cross-device compatibility, but perhaps I'm just imagining the need for that.

NOTE - I have already installed IIS 7. My box is a x64 bit Windows 7 box.
