• Suspend orientation change

  Documentation says: "a configuration change (such as a change in screen orientation, language, input devices, etc) will cause your current activity to be destroyed, going through the normal activity lifecycle process of onPause(), onStop(), and onDestroy()." I would like to suspend the orientation change, since it crashes my app if it was done in the middle of a a loop (of reading a file). How can I do this? Also - looking for some kind of "onOrientationChnage" function :)

• How can I get something like Nautilus's "spatial" behaviour in 11.10 and later?

  Until recently, Nautilus had an optional "spatial" mode as an alternative to its usual browser mode. Users could enable it by opening Nautilus's preferences and selecting "Open each folder in its own window." Choosing this option resulted in a stripped down interface, and folders would always open in the same place on the screen. It looked something like this: That checkbox is still there, but it doesn't do the same thing: while every folder opens in a new window, those windows are all the same size and positioned the same way. Nautilus doesn't restore the size and position of each folder, which is what spatial mode was all about. This difference really shows if someone opens a folder in a new window, and then opens the same folder again. Nautilus will create another window instead of focusing the existing window. I help someone who is currently using Ubuntu 10.04, and he will be upgrading to 12.04 in the future. He is very comfortable with Nautilus's spatial behaviour and I think he would be disappointed to lose it. Is there an alternative file manager, or perhaps some less obvious option, that will give him an interface similar to the one he is comfortable with?

• PHP Sessions data lost when changing directory?

  I've got a simple login system using PHP sessions, but just recently it seems that if you visit pages not in a certain directory (/login/) you will always be flagged as not logged in, even when you are. It seems that my session data is being lost when I change directories (say, to /login/user/). I don't think I've touched the code myself since the problem appeared, is there something my web host could have done to my PHP installation that would delete the session data, and is there a workaround?

• Windows Server 2008R2 - can't change or remove the default gateway

  We've installed VMWare Server 2.0 on Windows 2008R2. After some time playing with it (actually only removing host-only and nat networks, and binding adapters to the specified vmnets) we've noticed a strange problem: if you change or remove the default gateway on the network card, the server completely loses a network connection you can't ping it from the subnet, it also can't connect to anyone. When the gateway is removed and a server tries to connect to the other machines, I can see some incoming packets using a sniffer, but I believe they are damaged in some kind (I'm not a mega-guru in TCP/IP and can't find a mistake in a binary translation of the packet) because the other side doesn't respond. What we tried: removed vmware server using add/remove programs deleted everything related to the vmware server and all installed network adapters in the windows registry double checked for the vmware bridged protocol driver file, it's physically absent and no any links in the registry. performed a tcp/ip reset with netsh and disabled/enabled all network adapters in the device manager to recreate a registry keys for them. tried another network adapter. and the situation is the same: as soon you remove or change the default gateway, windows stops working. The total absurd of the situation is that the default gateway points to the non-existing IP. But when it's set, you can ping a server from the subnet, when you remove it - you can't. Any help? I'm starting thinking the new build of the VMWare Server is some kind of the malware... :)

• Broken UAC, cant edit File/folders or change settings in user account

  It appears that UAC is broken cant move/delete some file/folders, when asked to use administrative right (and say yes) it shows the loading bar and then nothings gets moved/deleted, no error whatsoever opened control panel, user account and when i click on any option with the Shield (administrative rights) the mouse changes to loading and thengo back to normal, not opening any menu or showing any error Already done a sfc /scannow , no errors found Already used Microsoft's Fix it, reclycle bin broken and repaired, still the same error Used microsoftaccounts tool , this are the errors i got: Problem with microsoft account policy... <- this is the problem (didint fix) Trust this PC <- loop of redirections, cant get to trust this pc (only one with w8) Problems witht sytem registration : i think it is because of the soft system reset Some setting have sync turned off : i never configured anything to sync Rootcauses found and created logs : would like to know where the logs are saved... had to use a ".reg" file to change uac setting to never notify, thinking it would fix this, no, it stoped asking though, i can still open a cmd with Administrative rights, but cant access to UAC settings Accesed Administrator account (net user administrator /active:yes)and even with that account could change any settings so there it is, dont know what else to do in the moment (this pc broke with 8.1 update and was restored to factory configuration, it broke several drivers and kept most of the registry entries, i cant find the cause of this problem. other info: i tried to delete a file in a program folder and couldnt, downloaded unlocker to check first if it was permissions but no, it showed me a msg telling me that there wasnt any error, and if i would like to delete it, clicked on yes, and it did delete it, what amuses me is that i cant without this tool, not even using the feature that takes over ownership Edit: wow, in a not crappy pc chkdsk is fast, completed with no errors found : /

  running ESXi 5.5 here with a datastore on a single SSD. Now, I thought about changing to thin disks from thick and found that I could use a tool on the ESXi host to do that. However, the file size of the new created virtual disk is not changing. • Thundrbird 3: can't change column width?

  I recently installed Thunderbird 3.0.3. Just noticed a suboptimal UI setting: in the upper pane, which lists the e-mails in the current folder, the Date column is about 200px wide. So when I keep the window at 480x600, all I see in a row is: | tree icon | favourites icon | attachment icon | read icon | junk icon | Date and time, followed by 5cm whitespace | ... | P Where "P" is the first letter of the name of the sender. And the "..." is actually shown this way, I have no idea which column it is meant to be. But I don't see neither the sender, nor the message subject, which makes scrolling a folder for a certain mail rather pointless. I see these when I maximize the window, actually the columns are then not only bigger, they are arranged in another sequence. But I feel that holding a mail client permanently maximised at 1600x1200 is a waste of screen real estate. My naive solution attempt was to try to go with the mouse cursor to the right edge of the date column and try to shrink it by moving the cursor left while holding down the left mouse button. Not only is this default behaviour for all resizable columns I've ever encountered in GUIs, the cursor actually turns into a horizontal double-headed arrow. But pulling has no effect at all. I cannot make a wide column narrow, and I cannot make the narrow columns wide. I didn't find anything in the preferences either. So can please somebody explain how to get the columns arranged sensibly?

  I'm looking for a solution that incorporates most or all of the following: Patch Management, Server event viewing/tracking, AD change management, ticketing and internal/external kb, remote access - ability to shadow user sessions or create new ones, imaging, and inventory. Our environments contains Windows Servers and ESXi Hosts (We're not completely virtual, but we're moving that direction). Various Cisco and Linksys switches and firewalls. This is a tall order, and I don't know if it can be done on a reasonable budget. • LDAP Account Locked Out Sporadically after Password change - Finding the source of invalid attempts

  On a small network of machines (<1000) we have a user whose account is being locked out after an indeterminate interval following a password change. We are having severe difficulties finding the source of the invalid logon attempts and I would appreciate it greatly if some of you could go through your thought process and the checks you would perform in order to fix the problem. All I know for sure is that the account is locked out several (5+) times a day, I can't even be sure it's due to failed login attempts as there is no record of failure until the account is locked. So far I have tried; Logging the account out of everything we can think of and back in with the new password Scanning the user's box for any non standard software which might perform an LDAP lookup Checking all installed services on our production boxes to check none are attempting to run under the account Changing the user back to their old password (Problem persists so perhaps password change is a red herring) Wireshark on a box where lots of LDAP authentication is performed - Rejects only occur after account is already locked out Clearing the credential cache in - Control Panel - User Accounts - Advanced Looking at the local I'm at a loss for what to try. I am happy to try any suggestions you have in order to diagnose the issue. I think my question boils down to a simple request; I need a technique for deriving the source (Application/Host) of the invalid login attempts which are causing the account to be locked. • Configuration of Server root email - Change Address and Name on outgoing email

  As a newbie Postfix user, I've gotten so far and now I am stuck with a SMALL problem. I would like to configure my local network servers to send alerts and like using the following: 1) From address: [email protected] 2) From name: Hostname I can get #1 to work fine using smtp_generic_maps The problem is that on my email client, the name is listed as "root" - as in the header shows the following: Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2012 13:21:01 -0400 (EDT) From: [email protected] (root) To: undisclosed-recipients:; I'd like to change it to "From: [email protected] (Zeus)" I imagine that this can be done in the headers_check, but so far I haven't gotten anything to work and before I waste a ton of time trying to get this to work, I'd like to make sure I am on the right track. My aliasing and genericmaps are set up correctly (As far as I can see and know - the results are correct!). I just want to change that last bit in the From field to reflect the hostname. I would also like to add something in the subject of the outgoing messages for easy filtering - something like Subject: [Zeus.domain] - "Original Subject" Any suggestions are much appreciated. • Windows disk change monitoring for malware analysis

  Not sure if this question belongs to here, because it has some relations with 'serverfault' (system backups) and 'stackoverflow' (software analysis). I'm looking for a solution to monitor disk changes on a Windows system and selectively revert them. It should be able to handle live files like registry parts, so may need to be an offline backup software. It shouldn't silently pass over files which the current admin user doesn't have permissions on (files with no permission entries or owned by the 'system' user) Registry change tracking would be a bonus but is not a requirement I use virtual machines for malware analysis, there is even no solution to list file changes in disk snapshot files (delta VMDK). I currently use Ashampoo for monitoring changes. Though it's the best one between similars, it's not a good software and hasn't really evolved in many 'platinum', 'deluxe' versions released in the last 10 years (it even used non-resizable windows until the latest version). The real problem is it misses some disk / registry changes. Perhaps it only compares modification dates and doesn't catch a change if the dates are preserved. So, I think the solution should compare files using hashes, or file sizes at least. There are numerous backup software out there and I'm sure one can handle this, offline or online.

• I can't change mysql port (5.6.12) changing the lines of my.ini (windows 8)

  I was trying to change the port of my mysql server in my local machine but i can't. The version of mysql is 5.6.12, is an installation from wamp and I am on Windows 8. I change these lines in my my.ini file located in (C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.12). [client] #password = your_password port = 3307 socket = /tmp/mysql.sock [wampmysqld] port = 3307 socket = /tmp/mysql.sock key_buffer = 16M max_allowed_packet = 1M The previous values were 3306. Ok then I've reset the server installed, but it doesn't works, the mysql server is still running on 3306. Then, I rename the path of the services with this, to make sure that the my.ini is read by the mysql instance. c:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.12\bin\mysqld.exe --defaults-file="C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.12\my.ini" wampmysqld But nothing, it stil doesn't works. My last bullet was to copy the content of my.ini to a file my-default.ini (a file that is placed in C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.12\ and that I don't know what is its mission). However it still doesn't work and the port is still 3306.
