    Let's say I have a website called books.com where I sell books. I've read on Redirecting different domains to your main site that it's not a bad idea to register another domain that does a 301 redirect to my website, like booksforsale.com. Now, say I want to only target a specific category withing my website, like books.com/sci-fi/ so I register sci-fi-books.com and do a 301 redirect. Would this improve my search rankings? Thanks.

    I was told that unittest is fast and the tests which touches DB, across network, and touches FileSystem are not unittest. In one of my testcases, its input are the file names (amount about 300~400) under a specific folder. Although these input are part of file system, the execution time of this test is very fast. Should I moved this test, which is fast but touches file system, to higher level test?

  • Could not use domain name instead of static IP

    Hi, I'm working with some partners in the UK. My office is in Vietnam. We are having a network problem: My partner can access an internal website using the domain name, e.g. http://website.name, but I can only access that website using the direct IP, e.g. 192.168.1.85. I can not ping that web server using "ping website.name" but it works if I using "ping 192.168.1.85". I want to use the domain name. Please help.

    We have a SBS2003 server that was migrated to a new hardware platform, the computer name has changed but the domain is the same. The desktop's are trying to do offline files to the old server name. There is a nslookup entry for the old server name and a DNS entry for the old server. How do we safely remove the old DNS entry without breaking the computer offline folder storage locally. Can we change the pointing location on the offline file storage to point to the new server name.

  • Can't browse computer via nlb cluster name

    I have a fileserver nlb cluster, currently set to single affinity, made up of 2 2008R2 servers. We switched the primary node today. Now our Windows XP workstations can't browse to the cluster name (i.e. \fileserver) but can browse to the cluster ip address (i.e. \192.168.1.1) and can browse the member server by name (i.e. \filesvr1). I remember having a similar issue when we had to change a registry setting to allow Windows XP boxes to see another file server that was in a failover cluster but had to be referred to by another name (\thisfileserver instead of \fileserver). Convoluted, for sure, but it helped to prevent any code changes from happening. Well all of the programmers have their code on \fileserver and we can't have them switch their links every time \filesvr1 supercedes \filesvr2 or vice versa. I can't remember that registry setting that allowed the file server to ignore that it's being called by the wrong name. HELP!

  • Copying first 1000 PDF files having single, double quotes in their name to another folder

    I am having this folder with PDFs into it and I need to process 1000 at a time. So I need to move them into another folder, process them and delete them. For this I tried using $ find . -maxdepth 1 -type f |head -1000|xargs cp -t $destdir It gives error on single and double quotes in filename. There are thousands of files and I have no idea how many of them has these quotes in them. Can anyone help me find a solution? And I tried with the -0 option, it did not work

  • Mac OS X set terminal name that persists after SSHing somewhere else

    I try advice like this that recommends adding the following to your .profile: function tabname { printf "\e]1;$1\a" } So you can type tabname brokenbox to name your tab. The problem is as soon as I also type ssh [email protected] and log in, it wipes the tab name. I want a tab name that's as persistent as the tab, not the level of session I happen to be in. Is this possible? I don't even know what layer that data lives in.

  • Can't resolve Mac's machine name on VPN

    My mac'c machine name is something like this: hostname.company.com but whenever I connect to VPN, it becomes something like vpn-xxxx.company.com where xxxx are some random numbers. Because of this, some of my scripts which are dependent on host name gets blocked. We use the standard mac's vpn setup which comes with OS X Lion (under network preferences). How can I resolve to the correct mac's name even if I am on vpn ? That is even if I am connected to VPN, my machine name should resolve to hostname.company.com and NOT to vpn-xxxx.company.com. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

    I was testing my app that I've been working on for past 2 months. Basically it requests for JSON, that contains info about items. One field of JSON file is image_url. When I want to display this image, I need to download it from another server, that needs additional credentials.     I bought a new VPS, and configured two applications test1.com and test2.com on ngix server, now I can access both the application inside VPS, Now I need to invoke the application from other machines. MY domain is registerd with Enom, So I added 'A' name pointed to IP address of the VPS, Currently my VPS is not providing any Name Server, So what steps need to be done to resolve the issue regarding Name Server so that i can externally invoke the domains like www.test.com and www.test2.com from other machines? Is any configuration is left from my side other than configuring the Name Server? because it is not working now Thanks in advance

  • Running directx SDK samples on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device

    I tried to run the directx samples from ..\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\Samples\PocketPC\CPP\win32\directx\d3dm\tutorials on a Samsung Omnia and on the emulator and it doesn't work because of a deployment error. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and have installed Windows Mobile SDK Standard and Professional refresh. The device is correctly plugged in and set up for active sync (I know this because other samples work, also a creating Win32 smart device application and running it works). When I try to run a directx sample application it compiles without errors but the message: " There were deployment errors, Continue? Yes/No" appears If I manually copy the application from the debug folder to the device and run it from there, it works. The same deployment error message appears if I try it on an emulator. Other applications are deploying successfully. Is there any way to make the deployment work? Maybe there is an obscure option I need to set... What I do is: Connect the Mobile device to the PC, Open Visual Studio 2008, Open a directx sample project, Click Run (in Debug or Release mode).

  • Linux RFID reader HID Device not matching driver

    Hello, I got a RFID reader (GigaTek PCR330A-00) that is meant to be recognized under linux/windows as a (Human Interface Device) keyboard/USB. I hate to say this but it is working as a charm under Win7 but not "really" under Linux. Under Debian-like distros (x/k/Ubuntu, Debian,..), or Gentoo, or... I just can't have the device working at all: the device scan well (it has its USB 5V, so it is happy/beeping/blinking) something happened in the dmesg, but no immediate screen display of the RFID Tag code as expected (and seen under win7) Support is claiming it is ok under RHEL or SLED "enterprises" distros... and I must admit I saw it working under a RHEL4... I tried stealing the driver but did not succeed having my reader working... My question is thus double: 1./ How can I hack the kernel to add support to my device (simply register PID/VID?) ? 2./ What is different at all in a "enterprise" proprietary distro? how can I re-use it? I am able to access a file on the former, but not the latter. Am I missing something obvious? edit: Of course, in the above @"quickHelp" is being passed in the contentsFileName var. edit2: if it makes any difference, in my build settings "Base SDK" is set to "iPhone Device 4.0", and "iPhone OS Deployment Target" is set to "iPhone OS 3.1.3". Any other settings that might have an influence?

  • Browse for folder can't see camera device

    In Delphi 2010, I want to allow users to browse and select a folder. The folder is on a device (?) created by a DSLR: The folder is visible in the Windows Explorer as shown above. And, the folder is visible in a TOpenDialog, allowing them to browse into the folder and choose a file. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get either SHBrowseForFolder (code I found on the web but don't understand) or SelectDirectory to see the camera device or folder beneath it. (Side note: IMO, SelectDirectory is a far nicer UI, since the user can see the files in the folders while browsing.) I assume this has to do with the fact that the folder is in a device (?) created by the camera software. I've seen some tricks where you call TOpenDialog to browse for folders with '*.' and then ExtractFileDir on the result, but that's not robust or, IMO, a good UI. What I'm looking for is a "Browse for folder" that can see the same devices (including the camera device) the TOpenDialog & Windows Explorer can see. (Ideally, it would have the nice appearance like the one below!) Any suggestions? Image of a MS-Word's folder browsing in Win7. (I wonder if it looks this pretty in XP.)
