    I'm using a macro and I think it works fine - #define CStrNullLastNL(str) {char* nl=strrchr(str,'\n'); if(nl){*nl=0;}} So it works to zero out the last newline in a string, really its used to chop off the linebreak when it gets left on by fgets. So, I'm wondering if I can "return" a value from the macro, so it can be called like func( CStrNullLastNL( cstr ) ) ; Or will I have to write a function

  • Entity is currently read-only

    Quick post on an issue that we were having today. This fix may just be a band-aid for another issue but this fix at least got us moving again today. Since I didn’t see anything concrete online for a solution I figured I would post this as a part one fix and then post a more detailed fix later. We were getting this error earlier today in one of our projects that uses EF and WCF Ria Services. This entity is currently read-only. One of the following conditions exist: a custom method has been invoked, a submit operation is in progress, or edit operations are not supported for the entity type. The work around that we used for this is to simply do a check to see if the property is read only. Each entity has that property on it. private void SelectedInstitution_PropertyChanged(object sender, System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventArgs e)        {            if (!_personDetailContext.CurrentPerson.IsReadOnly)            {                _personDetailContext.CurrentPerson.LastUpdatedDate = DateTime.Now;            }        } We check to see if the CurrentPerson in this situation is readonly. If its not read only we go ahead and execute some other code. Again, this got us moving today, I am sure this is just step one in resolving this issue.

  • Value of the HTML5 lang attribute

    I'm working on a website which will offer localized content following the language+region approach as described on this W3.org page (e.g. fr-CA for Canadian French content, and fr-FR for "French French" content). As we consider content for each language+region to be unique, it is crucial to us that search engines properly identify and serve the content accordingly. By looking up on the Internet (e.g. this question), it appears that most people recommend the use of an ISO639 language code in the HTML lang attribute to describe the content language. Following this recommendation, we would en up using <html lang="fr"> which wouldn't enable the differentiation between the aforementioned language+region combinations. When reviewing the HTML4 specification, it seems that using language+region as a language code would be perfectly OK, as the en-US example is given as one possible value. However I couldn't find any confirmation of this in the HTML5 specification which doesn't seem to provide any example as to the possible allowed values. From there I tried to get a de facto answer by looking at what the web giants are doing.     Goal: Store custom data with the data attribute on any DOM element and retrieve it. Previously under HTML4 we used to use classes to store custom data, something to the affect of <input class="account void limit-5000 over-4999" /> and then have to parse the data out of the class In a book published by Peter-Paul Koch in 2007, ppk on JavaScript, he explains why and how to use custom attributes to make data more accessible to JavaScript, using name-value pairs. Accessing a custom attribute account-limit=5000 is much easier and more intuitive than trying to parse it out of a class, Plus, what if the class name for example "color-5" has a representative class definition in a CSS stylesheet that hides it away or worse some JavaScript plugin that automatically adds 5000 to it, or something crazy like that, just because it is a valid class name. As you can see there are quite a few reasons why using classes is a bad design and why it was important to define custom data attributes in HTML5. Syntax: You define the data attribute by simply prefixing any data item you want to store with any HTML element with "data-". For example to store our customers account data with a hidden input element: <input type="hidden" data-account="void" data-limit=5000 data-over=4999  /> How to access the data: account  -     element.dataset.account limit    -     element.dataset.limit You can also access it by using the more traditional get/setAttribute method or if using jQuery $('#element').attr('data-account','void') Browser support: All except for IE. There is an IE hack around this at http://gist.github.com/362081. Special Note: Be AWARE, do not use upper-case when defining your data elements as it is all converted to lower-case when reading it, so: data-myAccount="A1234" will not be found when you read it with: element.dataset.myAccount Use only lowercase when reading so this will work: element.dataset.myaccount

  • Searching for entity awareness in 3D space algorithm and data structure

    I'm trying to do some huge AI system just for the fun and I've come to this problem. How can I let the AI entities know about each other without getting the CPU to perform redundant and costly work? Every entity has a spatial awareness zone and it has to know what's inside when it has to decide what to do. First thoughts, for every entity test if the other entities are inside the first's reach. Ok, so it was the first try and yep, that is redundant and costly. We are working with real time AI over 10000+ entities so this is not a solution. Second try, calculate some grid over the awareness zone of every entity and test whether in this zones are entities (we are working with 3D entities with float x,y,z location coordinates) testing every point in the grid with the indexed-by-coordinate entities. Well, I don't like this because is also costly, but not as the first one. Third, create some multi linked lists over the x's and y's indexed positions of the entities so when we search for an interval between x,y and z,w positions (this interval defines the square over the spatial awareness zone) over the multi linked list, we won't have 'voids'. This has the problem of finding the nearest proximity value if there isn't one at the position where we start the search. I'm not convinced with any of the ideas so I'm searching for some enlightening. Do you people have any better ideas?

Following attributes are part of FndUserEO. Here I will add a validation to UserName attribute "Length should be > 5". Following steps need to perform. 1) Download all files of  "Entity Object Based on PL/SQL" to JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects and JDEV_USER_HOME/myclasses.If you want to see the content of source java file decompile it and save it in JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects. 2) Create new Entity Object XXFndUserEO as follows. Include all attributes of parent EO. 3) Add the validation code snippet to XXFndUserEOImpl.java as follows. 4) Create the substitution as follows. 5) Migrate files to $JAVA_TOP. xxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEOImpl.javaxxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEO.xml 6) Migrate the substitution.. 7) Bounce the server. 8) Verify the substitution has applied properly. Access Create User Page and create a User. You can see the validation message if user name length is less than 5. Give User Name as XXCUST4 and verify the table.   The FND_USER has created successfully.

  • BroadcastReceiver not reading stored value from SharedPreferences

    In my app I have a broadcast receiver that turns on GPS upon receiving a set string of text. In the onLocationChanged method, I want to pass the GPS data and a value from my shared preferences to a thread in a string. I have the thread writing to log and can see all the GPS values in the string but the last value from my shared preferences is just showing up as 'prefPhoneNum' which I initialised the string to at the beginning of the receiver class.   • Relationships in a Chen ERD

    I am working on a Chen ERD to model our organizations merchandise. Our central entity is a Style. We have supplemental entities of Color and Season. I am defining our assortment as the relationship between these three entities, and this relationship itself will have attributes and is defined by the three entities which participate in the mandatory relationship. The rules are; Many Styles can be offered in a Season, and a Style can be offered in many Seasons. Within a Season, a Style can be offered in Many Colors. I then have 2 other entities, one of which I believe is a weak entity, Climate, and the other may be weak, but I am not sure, this being Transaction Channel. I am thinking of these as relationships off of a relationship? Meaning, for a given Style/Color combination offered in a Season, it can be available through 1 or more Transaction Channels. Additionally, within a season, a given Style/Color combination can be intended for 1 or more Climates. Is it valid to have relationships off of relationships? Or does this requirement dictate that I should think of this Style/Color/Season relationship as an entity itself, and define the relationships to Climate and Transaction Channel off of this entity?

  • Designing generic render/graphics component in C++?

    I'm trying to learn more about Component Entity systems. So I decided to write a Tetris clone. I'm using the "style" of component-entity system where the Entity is just a bag of Components, the Components are just data, a Node is a set of Components needed to accomplish something, and a System is a set of methods that operates on a Node. All of my components inherit from a basic IComponent interface. I'm trying to figure out how to design the Render/Graphics/Drawable Components. Originally, I was going to use SFML, and everything was going to be good. However, as this is an experimental system, I got the idea of being able to change out the render library at will. I thought that since the Rendering would be fairly componentized, this should be doable. However, I'm having problems figuring out how I would design a common Interface for the different types of Render Components. Should I be using C++ Template types? It seems that having the RenderComponent somehow return it's own mesh/sprite/whatever to the RenderSystem would be the simplest, but would be difficult to generalize. However, letting the RenderComponent just hold on to data about what it would render would make it hard to re-use this component for different renderable objects (background, falling piece, field of already fallen blocks, etc). I realize this is fairly over-engineered for a regular Tetris clone, but I'm trying to learn about component entity systems and making interchangeable components. It's just that rendering seems to be the hardest to split out for me.

I was reading this article and I've got a couple of quick questions, How is the constructor for value objects commonly defined? As one that takes in all "data members" as parameters or stick to the default constructor and use mutator / accessor methods to set / get data members?   • .Net friendly, local, key-value pair, replicatable datastore

    I am looking for a key/value type datastore with very specific requirements. Anyone know anything that will work? Needs to be a component of some sort. No additional installation needed. The datastore needs to be on the local hard drive. I am using VB.Net for a desktop app running Windows XP through 7 so it needs to callable by that environment. It needs to replicatable. If I have four copies of my app running on the network, each local copy of the datastore needs to replicate with the others. As close to real time as possible. The first three are easy, I can do that with ADO.Net out of the box. The last one, replication, is the one I do not have answer to. Does such an animal exist? Thanks, Brad

  • flex checkbox value not selected from database

    Hi, I have a small flex datagrid. The dataProvider is an xmlList. I have two columns, userList and user permissions. The user permissions column as checkboxes. The values for the checkbox are stored as 0 and 1 in mySQL. While returning it from PHP, I am converting them to true or false. Its returning the values correctly to the frontend. But inside the itemrenderer, the checkbox is not being set to true or false. Either everything is true or everything is false.     Is it valid to store the return value of an object in a reference? class A { ... }; A myFunction() { A myObject; return A; } //myObject goes out of scope here void mySecondFunction() { A& mySecondObject = myFunction(); } Is it possible to do this in order to avoid copying myObject to mySecondObject? myObject is not needed anymore and should be exactly the same as mySecondObject so it would in theory be faster just to pass ownership of the object from one object to another. (This is also possible using boost shared pointer but that has the overhead of the shared pointer.) Thanks in advance.
